Benefits from the lessons of Shaykh Muqbil Bin Haadee (may Allaah have mercy on him) Part 1
By Shaykh Muqbil ibn Haadee al-Waadi'ee
Translated by Abu Yusuf, Sagheer Ibn Abdir-Rasheed Al-Kashmeeree
Taken from Fawaaid Min Duroos Abee Abdir-Rahmaan Muqbil Bin Haadee Al-Waadiee (Benefits From the Lessons of Abee Abdir-Rahmaan Muqbil Bin Haadee Al-Waadiee) 1 of Abu Abdir-Rahmaan Awd Bin Naasir Ad-Dagbasee Al-Wadaree

Said Abu Abdir-Rahmaan Awd Bin Naasir Ad-Dagbasee Al-Wadaree: 1. Our Sheikh - may Allah The Most High have mercy on him was asked about the explanation of books by Ibn Uthaymeen, so he - may Allah have mercy on him replied: I have not looked into any of them except for his explanation of AlAqeedatul-Waasiteeyah, and it is very, very beneficial. (page 30) 2. Our Sheikh - may Allah The Most High have mercy on him said: Two honourable scholars if you read that which is from them, you would think that the truth is theirs due to the strength of their expression, and they are Ibn-ulQayyim and Ash-Shawkaanee. (page 31) 3. Our Sheikh - may Allah The Most High have mercy on him said: From the recommended Sunnan when a new-born comes is the Aqeeqah, then choosing the name (and) choosing a wet-nurse Then he said: And beware of suckling from the stupid woman and the mad woman, for indeed the milk has an effect. (page 32) 4. He - may Allah have mercy on him said about Jamaat-ut-Tableegh: Indeed, it itself is in need of tableegh (preaching) (page 33) 5. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: Strive hard my sons before you are cut off or there comes between you and the knowledge something (as an obstacle), for indeed the barriers and the obstacles are many (page 33) 6. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: The Prophet (sallalahu alaihi wa sallam) prayed barefooted and with his shoes on. And the prayer in shoes is better alongside looking at them (beforehand). And if he sees on them something harmful, he should wipe it off on the ground and pray in them. And that which is harmful includes the ritually impure things and those things which are dirty. 7. Our Sheikh - may Allah The Most High have mercy on him said: Shareek Bin Abdillah, An-Nakhee and Al-Amash said about the Raafidah: We do not count them except as being the liars. And we say today about them: They are from the greatest liars. In fact, they are from the devils. And the author of (the book) Uyoon-ul-Mujizaat is an accursed Raafidee. And from them are those who affirm divinity for Alee Bin Abee Taalib, may Allah be pleased with him (page 33) 8. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: Al-Ikhwaan Al-Muflisoon 2 were deluded by the revolution of Khomeini, the one who says: Indeed, our Imaams have a station which has not been reached by a Prophet who was sent nor an Angel which is brought near. And he (Khomeini)says: None will establish the important matter except the awaited Mahdee who is in the cave (in Iraq). And he says: The texts of our Imaams are like the Quran, we revere them just as we revere the Quran. (pages 33 & 34) 9. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: From the causes which aid the seeking of knowledge are: 1) Taqwa: O you who believe, if you have taqwa of Allah, He will make for you a distinguishing proof i.e. in what you distinguish between truth and falsehood, innovation and Sunnah and beneficial knowledge and other than it. He The Most High says: And have taqwa of Allah and Allah will teach you. 2) Reliance (tawakkul) upon Allah concerning provision until it does not divert you away from seeking knowledge. 3) (Having) a high determination. 4) Sitting with those who are eager and beneficial. 5) Being far away from problems. 6) Reading about the lives of the Salaf. 7) Preserving the health (which) aids you in memorising the Quran. As for illness, then it may make you forget some of the things which were learnt. (page 34) 10. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: That which aids memorisation, is eating sweet things which have heat in them, such as the date, the raisin, frankincense and drinking ginger and honey. And (drinking) more ginger (than normal) hurts the blood and leads to becoming emaciated. And he (Sheikh Muqbil said: And Az-Zuhree and Muhammad Bin Qaasim Al-Anbaaree used to abandon (eating) the apple due to what it contained from acidity out of fear for their memory. (page 34) 11. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: The one who shaves his beard is a disobedient one and the disobedient one is an open sinner (faasiq). And if he

was upright upon the Sunnah, then he does not leave Ahlus-Sunnah because of this act of disobedience and he is much better than the hizbee. (page 35) 12. He - may Allah have mercy on him said to the one who loves knowledge but is distracted by that which prevents him from that: I advise him firstly to memorise the Quran, then Riyaadh-us-Saaliheen. And with these two books he will become an authority in admonition and guidance and he will know many things. And he should memorise Buloogh-ul-Maraam and intensely read Fathul-Majeed, the explanation of Kitaab-ut-Tawheed. (page 36) 13. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: Knowledge is through continuity, and otherwise there are those in the schools who are cleverer than us but they have been denied continuity. And he said: I have a masters degree and I did not benefit from it, not even with the worth of an onion. (page 36) 14. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: The tafseer of Ibn Jareer is considered to be the vastest of the tafseers (in size) due to the abundance of ahaadeeth and athaar in it. (page 36) 15. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: It is the sins which have humiliated the Muslims, and it is upon them to learn a lesson from what has passed. (page 37) 16. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: The most fearful thing that we fear for our dawah, is our own selves and our sins. He The Most High says: And whatever afflicts you from a calamity, then it is from what your hands have earned, and He (Allah) pardons much. [Ash-Shoora, 30] (page 38) 17. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: The Sufis, the Sheeah and the Hizbees are evil (munkar) in of themselves and they are in need of change. So do not wait for the changing of evil from them, because indeed they are evil in of itself. (page 39) 18. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: Yemen believed in the message (of Islam) and Alee Bin Abee Taalib, Khaalid Bin Waleed, Abu Musa Al-Asharee and Muaadh Bin Jabal were sent there, so we have no need for Jamaat-ulfasaad 3. (page 39) 19. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: The Prophet (sallalahu alaihi wa sallam) said: O Assembly of women, do not raise your heads (in the prayer) until the men stand up out of fear that they (the women) would see their (the mens) private parts because of the scarcity of the (mens) waist wrappers .Then he (the Sheikh) said: And in this condition were they (the companions) aided by (the disbelievers having) fear (in their hearts for them) for the distance of a months journey. He (the Sheikh) said: As for me, then

by Allah I love that I come out in a patched garment and my soul is content and pleased, but all of my clothes come to me as gifts. (page 40) 20. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: I have preparatory and secondary certificates, a certificate from the college of Shareeah and a masters degree, and I have not looked at them for a day and I dont know where their place is in the house. (page 40) 21. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: Sheikh Ibn Baaz was presented with being given a Shahaadah (degree), so he said: No, the Shahaadah of La ilaha illallaah (none has the right to be worshipped except Allah) is sufficient for me. 1. He - may Allah have mercy on him dictated to us on the date of the 22nd

Jumaada Al-Aakhir 1420 Hijrah the names of those scholars from Ahlus-Sunnah who died in the year 1420 and the one (year) before it. He said they were: Hammaad Al-Ansaaree, Umar Falaatah, the teacher in the Prophets mosque and he used to teach in the Islamic university, Sheikh Saaleh Bin Gasoon, Sheikh Abdul-Qaadir As-Sindee, Ismaaeel Al-Ansaaree, Sheikh Ibn Baaz, Sheikh Al-Albaanee, Sheikh Muhammad Amaan, Muhammad Bin Saaleh AlUthaymeen. Then our Sheikh, Muqbil Bin Haadee Al-Waadiee, joined them, may Allah have mercy on all of them. 7. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: The Sufis are of (different) types,

and the one from them who says: My heart informed me from my Lord, then he is a disbeliever. Al-Haafidh mentioned this in Kitaab-ul-Ilm. (page 43) the Imaams of the Muslims. In fact, he is the Imaam of the Muslims and he is like Abdullah Ibn Mubaraak. And as for Al-Albaanee, then he is a father to the Salafees, for indeed he has revived the Sunnan and the authentication and weakening (of narrations) after the ummah had thought that there was no one to establish this. Sheikh Al-Albaanee and Ibn Baaz. And likewise, the magazine Al-Bayaan is (also) of innovation. (page 48)
16. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: They say: Why do you warn from

the books of Muhammad Suroor and Sayyid Qutb and you do not warn from the books of Ibn Hajr and An-Nawawee despite them having mistakes in Aqeedah? He (the Sheikh) said): This speech makes a person laugh from his knee. 3 (page 48) at a person, they destroy him and he has no support to support him after that, and the arena bears witness to that. And the one who takes heed, is the who takes heed from other than himself, for indeed, they have already brought down As-Saaboonee, the author of Mukhtasar Ibn Katheer, At-Tahaan, AlQardaawee, Al-Ghazaaalee and many others besides them. (page 48)

17. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: When Ahlus-Sunnah aim the arrows

18. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: Ahlus-Sunnah have no one except

Allah, The Mighty and The Majestic. And he (the Sheikh) used as a proof (for this) His Saying, The Most High: Indeed, my Walee (Protector, Supporter and Helper) is Allah, the One who revealed the Book and He protects (supports and helps) the righteous. [Al-Araaf: 196] (page 48)
19. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: They say: The talk against Al-

Ikhwaan-ul-Muflisoon 4 is counted as being backbiting. And indeed the Messenger of Allah said about the Khawaarij (that they will be): The dogs of the Hell-Fire and (he said) to Abu Dharr: Indeed, you are a man who has in him (the traits) of jaahileeyah. And he said to some of his wives: Indeed, you are (like) the female companions of Yusuf. And he said (about a man): What an evil brother of the tribe. So, according to their way, they would count this as backbiting, and far be it that the Messenger of Allah falls into that. In a similar question posed to Sheikh Muqbil, the Sheikh replied: The Prophet (sallalahu alaihi wa sallam) said: If you do not have any shame, then do as you please. And I did not think that anyone would have the audacity to equate Sayyid Qutb with Al-Haafidh Ibn Hajr, the one who served the Sunnah with a service which has no equal. And his book, Fath-ul-Baaree, is considered a treasure of knowledge and it is considered an independent library. Said Abu Abdir-Rahmaan Awd Bin Naasir Ad-Dagbasee Al-Wadaree:

1. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: The ahaadeeth about the Miraaj

(ascension to the heavens) are from the totality of the proofs for the Highness of Allah, The Mighty and The Majestic. And the general people love the story of the night journey and its ahaadeeth, for they aid them in the awareness or the belief of the Highness of Allah. And they have a sound natural inclination (fitrah) which is better than those in the schools (of learning). (page 52) it to be lawful, is a disbeliever. And likewise, the one who believes that the magician knows the unseen, then he is a disbeliever. (page 53)

3. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: Ibn Taymeeyyah said about the Raafidah: They do not understand that which is known by the intellect and nor that which is conveyed from the texts. (page 54) 4. He - may Allah have mercy on him said about His Saying The Most High And We sent him (Yunus) to a hundred thousand or they were more: Perhaps this verse increases the doubt with the atheists about the Quran and they say: Your Quran comes with doubt. However, may Allah have mercy on our scholars, for indeed they already clarified this before the atheists came across it with doubt, and they said three statements about it which are: Firstly: It (the word or) comes with the meaning of rather (bal) i.e. rather they were more. Secondly: It comes with the meaning of and (waw) i.e. and they were more. Thirdly: It comes with doubt, but not with respect to Allah, high is Allah above that with a great highness. Rather, the doubt is but indeed with the one who saw them thinking that they were a hundred thousand or more, and the doubt does not return to Allah. (page 53)

5. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: Kitaab-us-Sunnah of Ibn Abee Aasim is from the best of the books of the Sunnah despite there being in it some weak ahaadeeth. However, it is better due to the abundance of its ahaadeeth. And after it comes Kitaab-ush-Shareeah of Al-Aajooree. And the best book about Tawheed Al-Ulooheeyah is the book Fath-ul-Majeed the explanation of Kitaab-ut-Tawheed. (page 54) 6. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: It is obligatory upon Ahlus-Sunnah to learn the Aqeedah due to the hadeeth of Muaadh Bin Jabal: Indeed you are going to a people from the people of the book. (page 55) 7. He - may Allah have mercy on him said about Urwah Bin Zubair: The patient one who expected reward (from Allah), the one who when the news of the death of his son Yahya reached him that the horse had kicked him and he had died, that he then said: If Allah has taken him, then indeed, He has left other than him for us. (page 55) 8. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: Why did Sheikh Muhammad Bin Abdul-Wahhaab mention in Kitaab-ut-Tawheed the prohibition of the picture and what is its connection to Tawheed? One of the children replied to this question and said: Because perhaps they (the pictures) were worshipped other than Allah. So he, may Allah have mercy on him, said: You are a Sheikh . (page 55) 9. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: They claim that the Zaydee school of thought is the nearest to Ahlus-Sunnah, and this is not correct. Rather, they (the Zaydees) are from the people of innovation and their school of thought is built upon delusion (page 56) 10. Our Sheikh - may Allah have mercy on him rebuked one of the students when he recited the verse about menstruation and began with the basmalah, and he directed him to seeking refuge from shaytaan because Allah says: So if you recite the Quran, then seek refuge in Allah from the accursed shaytaan. As for the basmalah, then it is recited at the beginning of the chapter. (page 56) 11. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: It is mentioned from Al-Awzaaee that shaytaan whispered to him that he had not washed his hand (during wudu), so he said: It is upon the claimant to bring the proof and upon the one who denies to swear an oath. (pages 56, 57) 12. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: If Allah had placed divorce in the hand of the woman, she would have surely divorced her husband more than twenty times in a day due to the deficiency in her intellect. However, it is from the grace of Allah, The Mighty and The Majestic, that He has placed custodianship in the hand of the man. (page 57)

He said: Yes, if there is no harm or poison from eating it. (page 58) 14. He - may Allah have mercy on him was asked about the prayer of the women behind the men with the presence of segregation and they (the women) do not hear the Imaam except by way of a speaker and then the sound cuts out. Is it permissible for them to put one of themselves forward, and how should it be if the sound comes back again, do they return to the Imaam or continue behind the woman? He - may Allah have mercy on him said: If the sound cuts out, it is permissible for them to put forward one of themselves, and if the sound returns, they should not return back after the Imaam. Rather, they should remain with the woman. (page 61) 15. He - may Allah have mercy on him was asked: Is it permissible to attend the funerals of the innovators, if his innovation has not reached the level of disbelief? So he replied: It is up to you to attend or not attend. However, that which is better is not to attend because it was not known from the Salaf, may Allah have mercy on them, that they attended the funerals of the innovators. Rather, Imaam Ahmed said: Between us and them are the funerals i.e. they should not attend them. (page 61) 16. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: Cleaning the teeth with a twig or a polishing cloth other than the twig of miswaak is permissible, even if it was with the intention of worship, if it does not harm the teeth, for it is said that the pomegranate twig causes harm to the teeth. (page 61) 17. He - may Allah have mercy on him was asked about a man who accused (another) man of adultery and he did not have four witnesses, but he has pictures by which he establishes (the proof) of the act of illegal sexual intercourse. He - may Allah The Most High have mercy on him said: This is not sufficient, and he (the man with the pictures) should be lashed with eighty lashes. 2 Then he said: Pay attention to the likes of this O students of knowledge. (page 62) 18. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: It is not permissible for the woman to pray in the garment of the man which is specific for him, and it is considered resembling men. And likewise, the garment which has a forbidden picture on it, wearing it inside or outside the prayer (is forbidden). (page 63) 19. He - may Allah have mercy on him was asked about the woman who puts henna on her head, how does she act (with this) when making ablution? He may Allah The Most High have mercy on him - replied : She places the headscarf on her head and then she wipes over the headscarf, just as the Prophet (sallalahu alaihi wa sallam) wiped over the turban. (page 63)
2 Translators note: These eighty lashes are the punishment for the false accusation of adultery. It should be noted, that the likes of these punishments are carried out and regulated by the Muslim ruler, NOT solitary individuals living in the West or anywhere else!!

20. He - may Allah have mercy on him was asked: Is it permissible to carry out an autopsy on a corpse? He said: That is not permissible, and indeed the voices of the scholars have become hoarse (from saying it so much) that the autopsy is not permissible, even if the killer was not known or the how the one who was murdered was killed, due to the hadeeth: It is upon the claimant to bring the proof and upon the one who denies to swear an oath and the hadeeth: Breaking the bone of the deceased is like breaking it when he is alive. (page 65) 21. He - may Allah have mercy on him was asked: What is the age in which a male child is to be prevented from entering upon (non-related) women? He said: The rule in this is when he is able to describe her (physical charms) to other than himself, so he is to be prevented from entering upon the (unrelated) women. And before this age i.e. if he cannot distinguish (regarding her physical charms), then he should be prevented from entering at three times (of the day): Before Fajr and after Dhuhr and Eesha. (page 66) 22. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: They say, indeed we prohibit eating with spoons, so we say to them: Come to us with a table with spoons and we will eat with them, despite us saying: It is better to eat with the hand. (page 67) 23. He - may Allah The Most High have mercy on him was asked about the age of covering with the hijaab for the girl, so he may Allah have mercy on him replied: At the time of her becoming a trial (for men), and there is not an appointed age for the covering with the hijaab. The normal age is twelve years old. Then he said: And the bodies (of the females) differ (in the way they grow) and we, Ahlus-Sunnah, do not become too harsh and nor we do we become negligent. Then he gave an example: If a woman is ill and a female doctor cannot be found, then it is permissible for a male doctor to examine her. And likewise it is permissible for a man to be examined by a woman (if necessary). And harshness in other than its place is not permissible, and if you were the one who was sick (and couldnt find a man), you would surely look for a woman to treat you. (page 67)

(page 34) 11. was upright upon the Sunnah, then he does not leave Ahlus-Sunnah because of this act of disobedience and he is much better than the hizbee. Said Abu Abdir-Rahmaan Awd Bin Naasir Ad-Dagbasee Al-Wadaree: 1. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: There is nothing out there which shows that the slaughtered animal should be put towards the direction of the Qiblah. Rather, it can be slaughtered in whichever direction it is in. Then he said: However, O my sons, teach the people firstly that which is the most important and most beneficial for them and leave that which will make them flee from you, until you can win them over and after that they will accept any thing from you. And now they say: There is nothing between us and the Jews except the (rituals of) slaughtering and marriage. This is what they believe, so have insight in your dawah. (pages 67, 68) 2. He - may Allah have mercy on him said about the two rakaat for greeting the masjid: I believe it to be obligatory, however, if you enter the masjid and you do not have wudu, then there is nothing upon you. (page 68) 3. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: It is mentioned in the biography of Abu Haatim and Abu Zurah that they fainted from hunger. (page 70) 4. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: If the scholars of hadeeth say AlQattaan, then it is Yahyah Bin Saeed, and if they say Ibn-ul-Qattaan, then it is Alee Bin Muhammad, the author of Kitaab-ul-Wahm Wal-Eehaam. (page 71) 5. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: The narration from the people of innovation is permissible on the condition that he is not a liar and that his innovation does not lead to disbelief. And indeed, Al-Bukhaaree has narrated from Ubaidullah Bin Moosa Al-Abasee and he was an innovator. And AlAmash was accused of tashayu (Shiism) 2 and Qataadah was accused of (having a deviant belief in) Al-Qadr. (page 71)

He - may Allah have mercy on him said: From the proofs of Jarh wat-Tadeel is The Saying of Allah The Most High: Perish the hands of Abu Lahab and perish he and His saying: And do not obey every despised swearer of oaths (who actually lies) and the hadeeth: Are you one that puts (others) to trial O Muaadh? and to Abu Dharr (he said): Indeed, you are a man who has in him (the traits) of jaahileeyah and (to another man): What an evil brother of the tribe and the hadeeth: As for Muaaweeyah, then he is poor, and as for Abu Jahm, then he does not take the stick away from his shoulder. Rather, it is from the best of Jihaad. And indeed, it has been mentioned about Muhammad Bin Ismaaeel As-Sanaanee that he became ill with diarrhoea and in his possession he had a book of one of the people of innovation. He said: Burn it and cook for me some bread with it. So they did that and he ate it and Allah cured him from his illness. (pages 72, 73) 11. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: I consider myself a teacher and a father to my sons the students of knowledge, and I am not a leader of AhlusSunnah. We are students of knowledge and we do not want the office of a Sheikh or a party. (page 74) 12. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: Being a student with a Sheikh is established for a student even with one sitting or two sittings. (page 75) 13. 14. He - may Allah have mercy on him once said, joking with his students: What do you know about Abu Murrah? So the students began to become engrossed in the (subject of the) narrators of hadeeth and not one of them replied. Then the Sheikh said: He is the shaytaan.4 (page 76) 15. He - may Allah have mercy on him said: The one who does not know Ahmed Bin Muhammad Ash-Shaybaanee should stand. So, many brothers stood up. Then he said: He is Ahmed Bin Hanbal. (page 76) 16. He - may Allah have mercy on him mentioned that the religion is not aided by lying and hoaxes. Then he mentioned the story of the tree which is in Germany and they claim that there is written in it: La ilaha illal la (None has the right to be worshipped except Allah). And he mentioned the story of the man who entertained a people and cooked food for them and the food did not impress him so he threw it away in the toilet. So, Allah became angry with him and changed him into a snake. And they began to say: Whosoever wants verification (of this) should phone him on his telephone. So, the people began to phone and they heard a whistling sound (of the snake). So, these are from the lies which are not from the religion at all. (pages 101, 102)

A description of the lessons of Sheikh Muqbil Bin Haadee Al-Waadiee (may Allaah have mercy on him)
By Sheikh Muqbil Bin Haadee Al-Waadiee
Taken from Rahalaat Daweeyah Li-Sheikh Muqbil Bin Haadee Al-Waadiee Wa Muqtatafaat Min Aqwaalihi Wa Fataaweehee (The journeys of dawah of Sheikh Muqbil Bin Haadee Al-Waadiee and a selection from his sayings and his verdicts) Pp 16-211 of Abu Ramzee Naasir Bin Alee Muhammad Ad-Dabb Al-Waadiee. Translated by: Abu Yusuf, Sagheer Ibn Abdir-Rasheed Al-Kashmeeree

Said Abu Ramzee Naasir Bin Alee Muhammad Ad-Dabb Al-Waadiee: The general Lessons of the Sheikh. The lessons of the Sheikh were lessons of knowledge in truth and he used to be happy in them. And sometimes he used to have anxieties and tiredness with him and when he sat on the chair he forgot the tiredness and anxieties. And in between these lessons there used to be poems and questions, with the people either coming for a visit or them having questions with them. And sometimes he used to give a lecture on the telephone to different lands, especially in the final years of his life - and this is the Grace of Allah which He gives to whom He wills from His slaves. From the beginning of the dawah in Yemen, he used to teach Saheeh-ulBukhaaree after the Asar prayer, and he used to make the one reading the hadeeth memorise it and it would be heard before the lesson. Between Maghrib and Isha would be (the) Saheeh Muslim (lesson). And in between these lessons there would be questions, he would ask the students and they would ask him. And he would recite to us some sections of poetry and they would be memorised. From the last of the poetry which he recited to us was: And whosoever has patience with knowledge is successful with its attainment, And whosoever proposes to the beautiful woman has patience with expenditure, And whosoever does not humble the soul in the request of those things which are the highest, He lives a long life-time as the brother of humiliation. And after Isha he taught As-Sunnah of Abdullah Bin Ahmed, may Allah have mercy on him. And after that on the 9th of Rabee-ul-Awal 1417 hijrah he taught the book As-Saheeh-ul-Musnad Min Asbaab-in-Nuzool (The authentic collection of ahaadeeth which go back to the Prophet [sallalahu alaihi wa sallam] about the reasons of

revelation) by him, may Allah have mercy on him. And after that he moved it to before Dhuhr. And after the Isha prayer the Sheikh, may Allah have mercy on him taught the book Ash-Shifaaah (Intercession) by him, may Allah have mercy on him. He began it on the 1st of Jumaadah-al-Oola 1417 hijrah (and) then the Sheikh stopped it for about four months because of the illness (he had). And Sheikh Yahyah Bin Alee AlHajooree, may Allah The Most High preserve him, finished it on the 6th of Jumaadah-al-Oola 1418 hijrah. After that between Maghrib and Isha the Sheikh taught As-Saheeh-ul-Musnad Min Dalaail-in-Nubuwah (The authentic collection of ahaadeeth which go back to the Prophet [sallalahu alaihi wa sallam] about the proofs of Prophethood) by him, may Allah have mercy on him. He began it on the 11th of Rabee-uth-Thanee 1418 hijrah and Sheikh Yahyah Bin Alee Al-Hajooree completed it after him on the 24th of Jumaadah-al-Ahkhirah 1422 hijrah. Also, the Sheikh taught the book Dhamm-ul-Masalah (The blameworthiness of asking) by him, may Allah have mercy on him. He began it in the month of Jumaadah-al-Oola 1418 hijrah and Sheikh Yahyah Bin Alee Al-Hajooree completed it after him on the 26th of Rajab 1418 hijrah. And between Maghrib and Isha, the Sheikh taught Ghaarut-ul-Fasl Ala-alMutadeen Ala Kutub-il-Ilal (The decisive attack upon those who commit aggression against the books about the hidden defects in the ahaadeeth) by him, may Allah have mercy on him. He finished it on the 1st of Jumaadah-al-Oola 1419 hijrah. Immediately after it on the 2nd of Jumaadah-al-Oola 1419 hijrah, the Sheikh began, between Maghrib and Isha, the book Al-Jaami-us-Saheeh Fil-Qadr (The authentic collection of ahaadeeth about Al-Qadr [predestination]) by him, may Allah have mercy on him, and the noble Sheikh Yahyah Bin Alee Al-Hajooree completed it after him on the 12th of Muharram 1423 hijrah. And before these books, with the exception of Saheeh-ul-Bukhaaree, Muslim, Tafseer Ibn Katheer and As-Sunnah of Abdullah Bin Ahmed, the Sheikh taught the book Ahaadeeth Muallatun Dhaahiruhaa As-Sihaa (The ahaadeeth which are apparently authentic but have hidden defects)2 between Maghrib and Isha. He began on the 13th Safar 1416 hijrah and finished it on the 5th of Rabee-ul-Awal 1417 hijrah. And before this, the Sheikh taught (the book) of Ibn Khuzaimah on tawheed for two or three nights and then left it. After this the Sheikh, may Allah The Most High have mercy on him, taught Al-Mustadrak Alaa Saheehain of Al-Haakim 3, may Allah The Most High have mercy on him. And indeed, the Sheikh passed away and Sheikh Yahyah Bin Alee Al-Hajooree was still teaching it up until a recent time. 4

And these books, every time he finished a lesson (from them) he would start the next one (book) except Saheeh-ul-Bukhaaree and Saheeh Muslim, for indeed every time he finished them he would return to teaching them anew. And likewise (for) Tafseer Ibn Katheer, he would return to it anew and he used to teach it after Dhuhr. And after this the Sheikh taught As-Saheeh-ul-Musnad Mimma Laysa Fis-Saheehain (The authentic collection of ahaadeeth which go back to the Prophet [sallalahu alaihi wa sallam] which are not in the two authentic compilations [of Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim]) by him, may Allah have mercy on him. So, he would be on Tafseer Ibn Katheer for a day and a day on As-Saheeh-ul-Musnad. And after this Al-Jaami-usSaheeh Mimma Laysa Fis-Saheehain (The authentic collection of ahaadeeth which are not in the two authentic compilations [of Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim]) by him, may Allah have mercy on him. And Sheikh Yahyah Bin Alee Al-Hajooree is still teaching it, may Allah The Most High preserve him. Sometimes the Sheikh would stand up during the lesson and walk in the mosque asking (questions) to one (person) after another, and he would pursue those who were hidden behind the pillars. And if he asked about anyone and they said to him: he is in the mazra 5, either as a guard or other than that, he would say: We will ask him (the question from the lesson) over the loud speaker with the loudest of voice. And if he was in the mazra listening to the question of the Sheikh, he would answer it the next day. Sometimes from the mosque, he would ask the women during the lessons by way of the loud speaker and they would reply on (pieces of) papers and give them to his family. Then he would look at them when he would enter his house. And sometimes he would make a competition between the men and the women i.e. a shared question (between them) Sometimes he would leave after the prayer to look for those who were absent from the lesson. One time he went to the shop of Muawwad and to the restaurant next to it, and those who were inside the restaurant did not notice that he was with them. And when they saw the Sheikh with them at that time, and it was the time of the lesson, they were not able to speak. And likewise he went to the valley (to look for the students who hadnt come). Sometimes after the lesson which was between Maghrib and Isha, he would get up and give the call to prayer by himself. And sometimes he would initiate a contest on poetry between himself and some of the students during the lesson. Sometimes he would say: Tonight is the night of the reciters i.e. those whose voices were beautiful with respect to the Quran. He (one of the reciters) would recite for about ten minutes or less and then other than him would come (and do

the same). And indeed An-Nawawee has given the chapter heading in Riyaadh-usSaaliheen: Chapter: The desirability of beautifying the voice for the Quran and requesting recitation from the one who has a beautiful voice and listening to him. And he then mentioned ahaadeeth (about this) of which is from the hadeeth of Abu Musa Al-Asharee (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (sallalahu alaihi wa sallam) said to him: Indeed, you have been given a wind-instrument from the wind-instruments of the family of Daawud. 6 And from Ibn Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (sallalahu alaihi wa sallam) said to me: Recite the Quran to me. He said: So I said: O Messenger of Allah, I recite to you and to you it was revealed. He said: Indeed, I love to hear it from other than myself. So, I recited to him Surah AnNisaa until I reached: So (how will it be) then when We bring from each nation a witness and We bring you (O Muhammad) as a witness against these people he said: Enough now. So I turned towards him and his eyes were overflowing with tears. 7 Sometimes he would entrust some of the brothers who were strong in the Quran to carry out a test (in the Quran) and he would say: I will be the first to recite, answer me back (when I recite) O such and such. And his whole life was calling to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (sallalahu alaihi wa sallam). Allah, The Mighty and The Majestic says: Say (OMuhammad): This is my way; I call to Allah with sure knowledge, I and those who follow me, and free is Allah from all imperfection and I am not from amongst those that associate partners with Allah. And if he saw someone sleeping 8 he would say: Get up O such and such and he would leave him standing until sleep left him and would say: Has the sleep gone? He (the person) would say: Yes, and he (the Sheikh) would say: Sit down. And he would ask (the students) and say: Faatimah Bint Imraan, what is the name of her father? Or: Such and such the son of such and such, what is his fathers name? Then the students would say, especially if a student had come recently: I do not know. Then the Sheikh would say: Such and such the son of such and such, you do not know and the Sheikh would laugh, may Allah have mercy on him, and the student would take heed from this And he used to have specific lessons, and indeed, he used to teach Sharh Ibn Aqeel after Saheeh-ul-Bukhaaree in the mosque and then in the library. And when
