IampleasedtointroduceyoutoSalemsCommunityEnergyStrategy.TheStrategy
servesasaroadmapforenergysavingeortscommunitywide,nowandinthefuture. Itincludesshortandlongtermgoals,objecEves,andacEonsthattheCity,individuals, andbusinessescantaketoreducegreenhousegasemissions,improveenergyeciency, andincorporaterenewableenergyintoSalemareaprojects.SomeoftheacEonscanbe iniEatedbyCitysta,whileothersrequirecollaboraEonwithSalemareaorganizaEons. SomecanbecompletedwithliJleornoaddiEonalfunds,butmanywillrequire addiEonalnancialortechnicalresourcestoachieve. Salembusinesses,educaEonalandpublicinsEtuEonshavebeenleadingthewayby construcEngenergyecientbuildings,usingsolarandwindtopowerfaciliEes,and makingsustainabilitytheircorebusiness.AsthecapitolofOregon,Salemaimstobuild onthestatesreputaEonforgreeninnovaEon,tobethenextenergyecientCapital City.Achievingthiswillrequirepartnershipsandsharedresources. InaddiEontotheacEonsidenEedwithintheStrategy,theCityhasembarkedon $1.2MinprojectstoreduceenergyuseinCitybuildings.Theseinvestmentsinclude HVAC,lighEng,window,insulaEonimprovementsandestablishingaResource ConservaEonManagementprogramtomonitorandmaintainenergyperformance. HVACimprovementsaloneareexpectedtogenerate$124,000inannualsavings.Other CityiniEaEvesincludeareducedidlingpolicyforCityeet,usingenergyecientLEDsin streetlights,andachievingEarthwisecerEcaEonforCityoces. InAugust2009,theCityofSalemreceivednoEceofa$1.5MawardfromUS DepartmentofEnergys(USDOE)EnergyEciencyandConservaEonBlockGrant (EECBG)Program.TheEECBGProgramaimstoreducefossilfuelemissions,totalenergy consumpEon,andcreatejobs.ItalsorequirescommuniEesdevelopanEnergyStrategy tomeettheseobjecEves.InDecember2009,USDOEapprovedSalemsEnergyStrategy andseveralacEviEestheCitywillgetstartedonin2010.TheStrategywasdeveloped withinputfromthecommunityandwithassistancefromrepresentaEvesofSalem KeizerTransit,WillameJeUniversity,StateofOregonDepartmentofAdministraEve Services,SEDCOR,OregonEnergyTrust,PortlandGeneralElectric,andsomeofSalems largestemployers.

HowaretheRemainderofUSDOEFundsBeingSpent?
