EXTREMELY LOUD AND INCREDIBLY CLOSE
THE IRON LADY
Dir. Phyllida Lloyd, PG-13, 105 min, Opens 1/13
We all know how easy it is to get excited when Meryl Streep is about to dominate a
new role and probably (defnitely) win another Academy Award, but when that role
involves Meryl taking on the polarizing frst female Prime Minister of England, the
Iron Lady herself, Margaret Thatcher, its easy to get worked into an absolute ft.
This is a woman about whom super-human Meryl herself said, The prospect of
exploring the swath cut through history by this remarkable woman is a daunting
and exciting challenge. I am trying to approach the role with as much zeal, fervor
and attention to detail as the real Lady Thatcher possesses I can only hope my
stamina will begin to approach her own! Look out!
EXTREMELY LOUD AND INCREDIBLY CLOSE
Dir. Stephen Daldry, PG-13, Opens 1/20
If EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED may serve as any indication, then the much-loved
energetic and visual writing of Jonathan Safran Froer will translate beautifully
with his second novel to hit the big screen. In EXTREMELY LOUD AND INCREDIBLY
CLOSE, child prodigy Oskar Schell is an inventor, jewelry designer, astrophysicist,
tambourine player and pacifst living in Manhattan with his grandmother (Zoe
Caldwell) and mother (Sandra Bullock) They are all trying hard to cope with the
death of his father (Tom Hanks) in the September 11th attacks. In his sorrow, Oskar
comes across a mysterious key left behind by his dad. He thinks it must have
been his dads way of assigning him one last reconnaissance expedition, a game
they loved when his dad was alive. Beginning with just one vague clue, Oskars
expedition leads him all over the city on an adventure that brings him into contact
with many people who share their stories and try to help him on his journey.
WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN
Starring two of the great character actors of our time--Tilda Swinton and John C.
Reilly--WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN is a serious flm. Based on Lionel Shrivers
2003 novel of the same name, WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN is told from the
point of view of an Armenian-American mother (Swinton) who narrates the events
leading up to and including her sons (Ezra Miller) massacre of teachers and
students at his school. The flm is not light fare, but with rave reviews at Cannes
and Fantastic Fest and a phenomenal performance from Swinton as a mother who
must assess her own culpability in her sons actions, WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT
KEVIN cant be missed.

DRAGONSLAYER
Dir. Tristan Patterson, 2012
RZ 1/29 & 1/30
DRAGONSLAYER documents the struggles of a local legendary skate punk Josh
Skreech Sandoval in the suburbs of California shortly after Americas economic

Hollywood Bullshit: ARMAGEDDON
Dir. Michael Bay, 1998, PG-13, 151 min
RZ 1/10
When an asteroid the size of Texas threatens to wipe out all life on Earth, only
one thing can save us. No, its not scientists, NASA, or astronauts; its Bruce Willis
packing nuclear weapons! In the Michael Bay universe, where science, logic and
plausibility are dirty words, the only requirements are bad writing, utter insanity
and plenty of explosions. Join astronomer Andy Howell, a host of the TV show
KNOWN UNIVERSE, and Copernicus on Aint It Cool News, as he rips apart every
ridiculous aspect of his most hated movie, ARMAGEDDON. He leads a discussion
with a lynch mob of astrophysicists in town for the American Astronomical Society
Meeting, many of whom are doing the very research on Earth-threatening asteroids
butchered in the flm.
MAN ON A MISSION:
RICHARD GARRIOTTS ROAD TO THE STARS
Dir. Mike Woolf, 2010, 94 min, Opens SL 1/20
Many children dream of following in their fathers footsteps but what if that path
leads to outer space? MAN ON A MISSION follows fantasy video game designer
Richard Garriott on his lifelong quest to become Americas frst second-generation
astronaut. The sweeping tale includes rarely seen footage from his father, Owen
Garriotts early missions and unprecedented access to Richards training in Star
City, Russia, as well as his launch from remote Kazakhstan. Culminating with
exclusive personal footage of his 10-day mission on the International Space
Station, viewers share an awe-inspiring journey that is literally out of this world.
At once an intimate look at the process of becoming an astronaut and a profound
statement on mans future in space, the flm reveals a formerly top-secret world
known only by a select few--until now.
A LONELY PLACE TO DIE
Dir. Julian Gilbey, 2011, 99 min.
RZ 1/30 & 2/1
Five vacationers fnd their Scottish mountain getaway interrupted by a very
unexpected discovery: a little girl locked in a subterranean prison cell a hundred
miles from anywhere. The semi-feral child speaks only Russian and attacks
anyone who touches her. Soon the group fnd themselves stalked by the girls
heavily armed captors, two of the most convincingly heartless villains in cinematic
history. The heart attack-inducing chase that follows will take them down raging
rivers, three-mile clifs and into the heart of a city on fre. Gun-toting maniacs
join the fray on both sides, sending skull bits and splintered bone fying across
every inch of gorgeous, lawless rural Scotland. Terror veteran Melissa George
handles her lead role incredibly well, playing a strong, resourceful woman whos
admittedly as prone to panic as you or I would be if caught in the crosshairs.

COMPUTER ERROR!: The WORST CGI in Movie History
Dir. Various Buttholes, 80 min, R
RZ 1/31
George Lucas. Michael Bay. McG. Bloated Hollywood billionaires whove built
their empires on the shattered remains of our childhood dreams. Since the 90s,
the advent of computer technology has graced mankind with larger stomachs,
unavoidable pornography, and the complete destruction of the flm industry. Big
budget movies used to be packed with daredevil stunts, ambitious efects work
and innovative ingenuity. Now were treated to an aromatic bufet of Jar Jars,
Shreks and even darker ofenses. No thrills, no chillsjust the 64-bit machinations
of overpaid, Dorito-addicted studio schlubturds. Admittedly, most of America has
been too dumb to notice, but anyone with two eyes and half a mind can see that
movie magic is being violently murdered, and tonight WE FIGHT BACK!! CGI is hereby
on trial, and were presenting enough evidence for you the jury to send it straight
to the electric chair! So prepare yourself for a brutal barrage of twisters, scorpion
kings, sharktopuses and farting little buddies, as we hack into the mainframe of
CGI retardation and set that buuuuullshit on FIIIIRRRRE!!! (Zack Carlson)

MUSIC MONDAY
JAMES BROWN BOSTON GARDEN 68
WGBH TV, 1968, NR, 70 min
RZ 1/16
Less than 24 hours after Martin Luther Kings assassination the city of Boston was
in a state of turmoil. When James Brown arrived at the airport to play his already
scheduled show he was warned that the mayor, fearing further unrest among the
African American community, planned to cancel the show. Not only did the show go
on at Browns insistence, but public television station WGBH broadcast the whole
thing. Its an incredible historical document and a fantastic performance by James
Brown, who dedicated the show to Dr. Kings memory and brought the raw emotions
within himself and his community to a searing head.

CONTROL
Dir. Anton Corbijn, 2007, 122 min, R, 35mm
RZ 1/2 & 1/9
Before there was Daft Punk, before there was Blink 182, and before there was any
electro pop/punk music youve heard in the last thirty years, there was Joy Division,
one of the most infuential post-punk bands to come out of Factory Records. As
their short success continued to rise, they were hit with a mondo tragedy: frontman
Ian Curtis committed suicide. In 2007, Avant-garde auteur, Anton Corbijn, released
a fctional biography (shot in black-and-white) on Curtis life from 1973 to 1980,
covering his personal struggles with marriage and infdelity, the rise of Joy
Division, and his battle with epilepsy, which is an alleged contribution to his suicide
in 1980. CONTROL is one of the better fctional biographies about a musical legend.

Dir. Joseph Zito, 1984, 91 min, R, 35mm
RZ 1/10
SPECIAL PRE-FRIDAY THE 13th CELEBRATION! Modern Earth is a thousand times
shittier than 80s Earth. Conclusive evidence is everywhere, but Jason Voorhees
stands as the most undeniable exhibit. The Real Jason we love is a towering,
misshapen, unstoppable force of vengeance-fueled undead rage, while Fake Jason

defending his weed stash. Whooops. So join us in disregarding the last 2.5 decades

teenage meat chunks; Crispin Glover, 12-year-old Corey Feldman and LAST

TERROR TUESDAY
DEMONS
Dir. Lamberto Bava, 1985, 104 min, R, 35mm
RZ 1/3
Italians are a hateful and bloodthirsty race. This fundamental aspect of their
species is apparent in everything they touch, but is possibly best exemplifed in
this unchallenged masterpiece of rabid, hellish possession. Co-written by iconic
auteur, Mario Bava, DEMONS is an unrepentant vomit-geyser of torn digestive tracts
and anti-human plague sewage. A panorama of stereotypes - punks, preppies n
the ungodly events unspooling on the silver screen erupt into an actual harvesting
of shrieking mutilated victims. The demon virus spreads through the theater like
a lightning bolt with a switchblade, and no opportunity for repugnantly gratuitous

GOKE: BODYSNATCHER FROM HELL
Dir. Hajime Sato, 1968, 84 min, R, 35mm
RZ 1/17
As far as Im concerned, if Japan never made another movie before or after this
senses-melting Technicolor annihilator, theyd still be the most entertaining
nation in the third dimension. Every sound, hue, special efect and performance
here is like nothing ever seen on flm. Survivors of a mysterious plane crash are
stalked by mucus-based interplanetary silver blobs bent on destroying mankind
genitaliaesque forehead growths, bubble-shaped saucers, massive psychotic
frenzies and epilepsy-strobe anti-war propaganda and youve just scratched the
invasion skull-shredder has to ofer. Obscenely underrated creator-director Sato
had previously sharpened his teeth on gonzo Sonny Chiba monster epics like THE
GOLDEN BAT and TERROR BENEATH THE SEA -- as well as a live action childrens
TV series called LITTLE SATAN (!!) -- but GOKE is far and away the pinnacle of his
psychotically deranged genius. This is truly one the fat-out best movies to ever hit

HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER
Dir. John McNaughton, 1986, 83 min, NR, 35mm
RZ 1/24
Horror movies incorporate some measure of humor or colorful characters to
balance their violence. Its a reliable method thats existed as long as movies
themselves: Destroy the viewer momentarily, but allow them to take their next
breath. HENRY is a notorious exception to the rule; a fact-based blade in the guts
that twists from the opening segment and only builds speed. Shot in Chicago on an
impossibly lean budget, the cast of unknowns authentically transform into drifters,
junkies, victims and remorseless, humorless, futureless killers. Michael Rookers
lead performance is so strong that he probably had to strangle kittens on weekends
to depressurize from the role. One of the most infamous and efective fright flms of
all time, HENRY was completed three years before any theater would screen it, and
the MPAA declared that there could be no amount of edits that would ever allow
the flm an R rating. So tonight, we present a completely uncensored, unrated
35mm print. Ride the darkness. (Zack)
THE CAR
Dir. Elliott Silverstein, 1977, 96 min, PG, 35mm
RZ 1/31
In 1983, Stephen King and John Carpenter released a wildly successful movie
about a villainous automobile. With all due respect to these two timeless horror
icons, CHRISTINE is a total puss. Instead, lets look back six additional years at
a car possessed by The Devil himself. James Brolin plays a desert community
sherif faced with an all-powerful four-wheeled custom cruiser self-driven by The
Dark Lord and capable of breathtaking paranormal feats of human extermination.
Cops, children, wife-beaters, schoolteachers and crosscountry bicyclists all fnd
themselves smeared across the pavement under Lucifers hungry wheels. This
Satanic sedan is not only seemingly unstoppable, but actually modeled after
the real-life luxury vehicle of Church of Satan founder Anton LaVey, who himself

EROTIC ADVENTURES OF PINOCCHIO
Dir. Corey Allen, 1971, 79 min, R, 35mm
RZ 1/18
Its not his nose that grows. Unbelievably silly high concept adult fairy tale about
a wooden man created by the horny Gepetta (the amazing Monica Gayle, Patch
from SWITCHBLADE SISTERS) to help satisfy her insatiable desires. As you could
probably fgure out for yourself, he becomes a real warm-blooded man and pretty
soon hes knee deep in the naughty free-love sex hijinks of feudal Europe. But
hes faced with one difcult and embarrassing technical problem: everytime hes
unfaithful to Gepetta, his love-kabob doubles in size. And since hes starring in
one of the villages many proftable live sex shows (presided over by a guy who
looks and acts exactly like Super Mario), he soon fnds his indiscretions impossible
to conceal. A stupid yet fun flm that will appeal to your baser instincts. With
Dyanne Thorne (ILSA, SHE WOLF OF THE SS) as the Fairy Godmother and an all-star
cast of sixties and seventies skin-fick performers. (Lars)
WEIRD WEDNESDAY
SWITCHBLADE SISTERS
Dir. Jack Hill, 1975, 91 min, R, 35mm
RZ 1/11
This is one of the all-time classic exploitation flms, and probably director Jack
Hills masterpiece. Its hard to imagine a more perfect Girl Gang movie. All the
elements - tone, pacing, performances - are dead-on. The revenge and betrayal-
flled plot brings to mind the nastier Elizabethan dramas that were so popular
with working class audiences of 400 years ago, who crammed into disreputable
never change. Hill combines the complicated plot efortlessly with the crisp,
classical gangster movie tone of the old Warner Brothers James Cagney flms and
the directness and intensity of 70s drive-in cinema. The result is a perfect storm of
red-hot teenage bad girls, fashing knives and social commentary. The three main
leads are perfect - angelic Robbie Lee, cast against type as the tough leader of the
Dagger Debs; Joanne Nail, who looks like Miss America but is the toughest Deb of
all and Monica Gayle as the sexy one-eyed Iago Patch, who dines on the coldest
plate of revenge imaginable at the end. Incredible. (Lars)

RZ 1/4
As the poster says: Nerve-shattering ...Brain-battering ...Mind-splattering ...A
ONE MAN DISASTER! If you want an argument from me youll have to change the
subject. Rudy Ray Moore is without a doubt one of the most idiosyncratic talents
ever to light up the silver screen. He frst achieved fame as a nightclub entertainer
reciting toasts (basically proto-raps) about a mythical black pimp/avenger
named Dolemite that had been handed down in various forms through years of
African American oral tradition. With the advent of blaxploitation action movies
in the 70s Moore took the next logical step, starring as Dolemite in his own flms.
This is the second and possibly funniest. This time the bad guys are rednecks and
mobsters. We also get to see the mature, somewhat pudgy Rudy Ray Moore naked
on more occasions than we might wish. Throughout, Moore displays his half-speed
the giant step into surrealism Moores flms would take, culminating in PETEY
WHEATSTRAW and AVENGING DISCO GODFATHER. Devastating! (Lars)
MESSIAH OF EVIL
Dir. Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz, 1973, 90 min, R, 35mm.
RZ 1/25
The 70s were a period of such astonishing artistic ferment in the American flm
industry that if we just poke through the junk pile a bit were bound to turn up
some amazing overlooked masterpiece -- and by the director of HOWARD THE
DUCK no less. MESSIAH OF EVIL is a legitimate horror classic. Id rank it right up
there with I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE and TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. I realize
thats a provocative statement, but then so is MESSIAH OF EVIL. Like a lot of young
flmmakers at the time Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz had absorbed as many
European art flms they possibly could and when they were contracted to make
let that scare you of. Between the Bergmanesque shots of women looking out of
windows, we get a beautifully sketched atmosphere of a small town with a dark
secret. Some of the scariest scenes in the flm take place in the most mundane
locales -- a gas station, a grocery store, a movie theater. A memorable scene
with a can of evil-repellant. (Lars)

from the movie. Well from now on, that aggression will not stand, man, because
at long last The Action Pack has put together THE BIG LEBOWSKI Quote-Along and

RZ 1/15
From the minds of the Spice Girls (seriously they got a writing credit for the idea),
developed and written for the screen by Kim Fuller (From Justin to Kelly) and
directed with elegance and grace by Bob Spiers (That Darn Cat), SPICE WORLD had

awful flm. But its so bad its INSANELY ENJOYABLE! This is why it creates the
perfect recipe for The Action Packs Hecklevision. So, climb aboard the double
decker Spice Bus and get ready for a madcap musical adventure with the sexy
phenomenons of pop - the Spice Girls. An encounter with extra-terrestrials, a

the most beautiful girl at the Moulin Rouge theater. But this sweeping musical
epic is far more than meets they eye as it can warm even the coldest of heart and

Luhrmann has given us a gift that will never stop giving and no matter how many
times Ive seen this movie in a theater, it never fails to give me goosebumps all

back in time in order to save his professorial pal Doc, played by Christopher Lloyd
(TAXI, STAR TREK III). Along the way, McFox ends up inventing rocknroll, changing

were screening not one but three of the greatest dance ficks of all time. Well start
with the balletastic CENTER STAGE, which proves that you dont need good actors to
make an enjoyable movie-- just great dancers. Next, well trade in our pli for the
pasodoble with Baz Luhrmanns STRICTLY BALLROOM and cheer on Scott and Fran as
they fght for love and victory. Our evening will end with plenty of booty-shakin and
battling in STEP UP 2: THE STREETS, a flm that combines underdogs, friendship and
a little rain to create the best dance fnale in cinematic history. Come prepared to
laugh, swoon and bust a move in your seat as the power of dance turns your Sunday
afternoon into the best day ever. (Sarah Pitre)
Afternoon Tea: SENSE AND SENSIBILITY
Dir. Ang Lee, 1995, 136 min
SL 1/28
You might think we created our new Afternoon Tea series just to have an excuse
to nibble on delicious British baked goods. Or you might think we started it as a
reason to watch period flms with gorgeous costumes and classy British accents.
Well, congrats, smarty pants, because youre correct on both counts! Were excited
to launch Afternoon Tea with the Austen classic SENSE AND SENSIBILITY, featuring
luminous performances by Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet set against the
beautiful English countryside. The Academy Award-winning screenplay highlights
the thrilling (but always polite!) drama and heartbreak of Jane Austens novel,
complete with secret engagements, scoundrels and the unbreakable bonds of
sisterhood. Feel as elegant and refned as the Dashwood sisters while you sip
on tea, and swoon with a scone over the adorable Hugh Grant and exceedingly
dashing Alan Rickman. Whether your inheritance is 5000 or 500 a year, everyone
is invited to this delightful and delectable afternoon! (Sarah Pitre)
Girlie Night: SIXTEEN CANDLES
Dir. John Hughes, 1984, 93min
LC 1/4 : VL 1/11 : RZ 1/17, 1/24
Im pretty sure that John Hughes is responsible for my survival of high school.
Beneath the comic exaggerations and sweet romanticism, the ordinary geeks in
his flms all gave me the same life-changing advice: Prepare for the worst, but
dont stop hoping for the best. And no character exemplifes this wisdom better
than Samantha Baker in SIXTEEN CANDLES. Whenever I had a particularly rough
day in school, or an extremely awkward encounter with my unrequited crush, I
always reminded myself that Samantha had it worse. Like, did a freshman guy ever
try to dance with me while spastically yelling, Very hot! Very hot! Um, no. Did my
entire family ever forget my birthday? No way! Did my grandmother ever feel me
up? HECK NO. Samantha, on the other hand, endured all of that crap (and more!)
and she STILL got to kiss the hottest senior over a tasty birthday cake in a super
posh house. In celebration of those tiny (yet monumental) teenage triumphs over
adversity and awkwardness, I invite you to join me for Girlie Night, where well
pass sex test notes and stare obsessively at Jake Ryan. (Sarah Pitre)

Zzang!!!: THE ROAD WARRIOR
Dir. George Miller, 1981, 94 min, R, 35mm
RZ 1/8
THE BEST ACTION MOVIE OF ALL TIME!! Before Mel Gibson traded in his post-
apocalyptic leatherwear for the fowing cotton robes of Jesus, he was The Toughest
Hero in Movie History. Mad Max burned rubber across the scorched highways of
the barren Earth, on the hunt for fuel and the blood of criminal marauders. Even
in the Australian desert, some shotgun-wielding punk goon-ass needs to be
murdered every 30 seconds or so. Easy work for Max, until he runs up against
post-nuke shitmaster Lord Humungus and his crew of feral mohawked wasteoids.
Suddenly, the lone wolf of the wasteland fnds himself defending the last outpost
of untarnished humanity. What follows is inarguably the single greatest chase/
fght/stunt explosion ever captured on flm, with more car-fipping and stuntman-
smashing than any 1000 American action blockbusters could dream of. Come
witness the absolute ultimate in fallen world annihilation with THE ROAD WARRIOR!

ASIAN INVASION: DREADNAUGHT
Dir. Yuen Woo Ping, 1981, 91 min, 35mm
RZ 1/22
This little-seen classic by Yuen Woo Ping (DRUNKEN MASTER, TRUE LEGEND etc.)
and his brothers (the Yuen clan) is completely astonishing. The only appropriate
not widely seen, DREADNAUGHT deserves to occupy a high place in the pantheon
of martial arts cinema, what Yuen and his brothers lacked in budget, they more
than made up for in endless expertise of combat and cinema. Theres as much
Buster Keaton as Bruce Lee in this story of a terrifying, demented maniac, wearing
the painted face of a Chinese opera villain, who pits himself against an elderly
Wong Fei Hung, the invincible and wise perfect fghter of Chinese folklore, and his
students. Everyone who sees DREADNAUGHT is wildly impressed by it. Dont miss
this opportunity to see a gorgeous 35mm print. Essential! (Lars)
CINEMA CLUB:
COMANCHE STATION with The Zellner Brothers
Dir. Budd Boetticher, 1960, 74 min, 35mm
RZ 1/15
For Januarys Cinema Club we will be joined by David and Nathan Zellner, the flm-
making team responsible for the forthcoming Sundance selected flm KID-THING,
as well as many others. Boetticher, a rough, tough son of a bitch who started as a
boxer and bullfghter, made westerns unlike any others that preceded them, though
he would have a gigantic impact on the flms of Sam Peckinpah, Sergio Leone, Clint
Eastwood and others. While his movies were commercially and critically successful
in the states, it was the French (naturally) who really embraced Boettichers
series of existential westerns. COMANCHE STATION was the last of Boettichers
collaborations with the tall, taciturn actor Randolph Scott, a man of few words but
unshakable moral strength. Here he must enter into an unsteady truce with his old
enemy Claude Akins and his gang in order to return a young woman to her family
from captivity by the Comanches. The threat of Indian attack is ever-present but
the real tension is within the group and ultimately within Scott himself.

REVENGE OF THE ELECTRIC CAR
Dir. Chris Payne, PG-13, 90 min
SL 1/9 & 1/11
In 2006, thousands of new electric cars were purposely destroyed by the same
car companies that built them. Today, less than fve years later, the electric car is
back ... with a vengeance, and those same companies and others are now revving
up production on exciting new models. In the follow-up to his hit 2006 flm, WHO
KILLED THE ELECTRIC CAR?, director Chris Paine delves inside Detroit, Tokyo, and
Silicon Valley to explore why the electric car is making a phoenix-like comeback. To
tell his breathlessly entertaining and eye-opening resurrection tale, Paine pits four
visionaries against one other: Bob Lutz, the cigar-chomping chairman of General
Motors; Elon Musk, PayPal wunderkind (and model for Iron Mans Tony Stark) who
CEO of Nissan; and eccentric carenthusiast Greg Gadget Abbot, who converts
existing cars to electric. Who will be the best at grabbing the worlds imagination
and getting consumers to buy their version of a green car? Narrated by actor Tim
Robbins, this high-speed documentary reveals why the next generation of electric
cars truly is Americas future.

The Golden Hornet Project presents AMADEUS
Dir. Milos Foreman, 1984, R, 210 min
SL 1/15
Golden Hornet Project (GHP) has launched a project to complete Mozarts
unfnished Requiem, in collaboration with composers from the rock, hip-hop,
video game and avant garde music scenes. To support this monster project, which
will be completed and presented to the public in 2014, we are hosting a series
of screenings of the flm AMADEUS over the next two years. Each screening will
include a live choral performance of The Requiem work in progress, with GHP co-
artistic directors Peter Stopschinski and Graham Reynolds in attendance. Based
on the stage play by Peter Shafer, AMADEUS tells the tale of Salieri, a famous
composer who is tormented and ultimately goes mad because of his jealousy of the
infnitely more talented Mozart. His utter mediocrity when compared to Mozart is
too much to bear, and Salieri hatches a plan to kill the brilliant composer.

Free Kids Club: The Original BAD NEWS BEARS
Dir. Michael Ritchie, 1976, PG, 102 min, 35mm
SL 1/28
Yep, if theres one thing that brings joy to the hearts of children across the world,
its Walter Matthau. Nowait a minutethats not true at all. Anyway, ol Dogface
was already a Hollywood legend before he decided to make the unlikely leap to
playing the lead in a family flm. Even more surprising is that the movie was a
huuuge hit, spawning two sequels, a TV series, and a 2005 remake that we wont
talk about here. But the original movie is the best of the bunch, jam-packed with
zany antics, childhood triumphs, PG swear words (okayplus a few real ones), and
the type of kids movie electricity that no ones been able to match in decades!
Sure, one kid smokes, another ones kinda racist and the coach always has a beer
in his hand. But these are all parts of what made THE BAD NEWS BEARS the most
memorable, enduring little league epic of all time! So dont be a wimp! Bring your
kids on down, and if they end up hooked on Marlboros, well refund your ticket price
in its entirety. PS: This show is free.

should be called The Ultimate 80s Film, with its shipwrecked characters living
low beneath the shadows of the crummy Reagan era. Otto (Emilio Estevez) is a
go-nowhere L.A. punk whose life takes a turn for the crazy when hes enlisted
by a crew of self-destructive, nihilistic repo men (including HARRY DEAN STANTON
delivering some of the BEST monologues ever committed to celluloid). Meanwhile,
a mysterious cop-evaporating force threatens to change the laws of science as we
know it. Featuring a hilarious script and a soundtrack from Black Flag, Circle Jerks,
There is no movie experience like this one, and Cox is considered one of the reigning

ultimate real life badass Kurt Russell, who was at the height of his efortlessly
steely machismo when he teamed with ultimate flmmaking badass John
Carpenter for the frst (and many say greatest) of several fawless collaborations.
So if you love BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA and THE THING - and you sure as hell
do - this is the unshaven, post-apocalyptic blowtorcher that started it all! The
year is 1997 A.D., Cold-blooded criminal Snake has 24 hours to enter the lawless,
bloodthirsty prison island known as Manhattan and rescue the nations president
(HALLOWEENs Donald Pleasance) from the clutches of a crazed gang leader played
by the late, great Isaac Hayes! Along for the explosive destruction, mayhem and
grit are HARRY DEAN STANTON, Lee Van Cleef and Ernest Borgnine. A beautiful 80s
sci-f masterpiece packed with testosterone-fueled violence and tough guy rage.
WILD AT HEART
Dir. David Lynch, 1990, 125 min, R, 35mm
RZ 1/27 & 1/28
Based on the pulp novel by author Barry Giford, WILD AT HEART follows Sailor
Ripley and Lula Pace Fortune, a young couple of outcasts who leave their hometown
of Cape Fear, North Carolina, and strike out on their own. This road movie is
a journey into the supernatural and the violent, bringing to light the dark side
of America and the open road. Adapted for the screen and directed by master
director David Lynch (TWIN PEAKS, BLUE VELVET, ERASERHEAD) and starring prime-
era Nicolas Cage and Laura Dern, this flm is one of Lynchs fnest eforts, and
features a supporting cast of some of the greatest character actors of the 1980s
and 90s, including HARRY DEAN STANTON(!), Willem Dafoe, Crispin Glover, and
Isabella Rosellini.
ALIEN
Dir. Ridley Scott, 1979, 117 min, R, 35mm
RZ 1/20 & 1/21

30 years, and the springboard for one awesome sequel (ALIENS) and two terrible
ones, this is Ridley Scotts trailblazing 1979 original in all its pulse-pounding,
face-hugging, chest-bursting glory. (Oh, and its also providing the DNA for
Scotts much-anticipated PROMETHEUS -- just dont call this new one a sequel! )
Not only was ALIEN the flm that proved to the world how brilliantly kick-ass that
leggy Mensa member Sigourney Weaver is, but it also featured a rather topnotch
supporting cast that included our man of the month HARRY DEAN STANTON!, (Sir)
Ian Holm, John Hurt (side note: whens this guy gonna get knighted?), Yaphet Kotto,
and your moms favorite dreamboat, Tom Skerritt.

ROUGH RIDERS

Weve put together a fantastic bill of live music to get all of you billy goats and gals
stomping around on the dance foor! With their rollicking country western style,
the Rough Riders are always a rip-roarin good time, especially when partnered up
with Rooster Jenkins, an energetic ball of neo-folk soul with a laid-back swagger.

every billy goat lose his gruf.
400 RABBITS PREVIEW DINNER
1/17 7pm
You may have heard about 400 Rabbits, the agave spirit bar opening in conjunction
with the new Alamo Drafthouse on Slaughter Lane. Were giving you a chance
to experience the tastiness before anyone else with our tequila paired dinner,
featuring cocktails from the 400 Rabbits menu! See what all of the hype is about
as beverage director Bill Norris and chef Trish Eichelberger take you on a mescal-
fueled journey of culinary delights.
AUSTIN ROASTERS CLUB
