2007-08 Illumina, Inc. 9885 Towne Centre Drive San Diego, CA

Associate Scientist, Product Manager, R&D/Lab Manager

Oversee, direct and carry out steps associated with the launch of Illumina’s updated
gene expression products for human, rat, and mouse microarrays and also for Illumina’s
new BeadXpress methylation and DASL assays. Produce and create graphic work for
publications, technotes, and marketing material. Perform validation and robustness
tests to ensure product specs for market are met. Produce experimental data for white
papers and marketing literature. Oversee assistants for both group and lab
management goals.

2005-07 Illumina, Inc. 9885 Towne Centre Drive San Diego, CA

Senior Research Associate in Product Development, R&D/Lab Manager

Design, execute and analyze experiments for Illumina’s gene expression, methylation,
and DASL related products. Design and perform experiments to get assays ready for
market with cost, efficiency and robustness in mind. Develop protocols and
documentation for marketing. Establish protocols and documentation for Illumina’s
new Beadxpress system and related assays. Establish conditions for novel genotyping
assay for the BeadXpress system. Perform experiments in collaboration with the FDA in
order to establish a set of samples that can be used for cross-platform standardization
and normalization for gene expression research.

2003-05 Illumina, Inc. 9885 Towne Centre Drive San Diego, CA

Research Associate II in RNA Expression Profiling, Molecular Biology/Lab Manager

Support RNA assay for use with Illumina’s BeadArray™ technology. Optimize sample
labeling and quantitation procedures for cost, throughput, and efficiency. Screen
targets for probe design using custom array technology. Validate and optimize
hybridization conditions for Illumina’s Bead Array™ technology. Establish conditions
and test effectiveness of RNA assay for Illumina’s BeadChip product. Produce large
amounts of labeled cRNA for testing of BeadArray™ technology. Perform quantitative
PCR to validate gene expression products. Troubleshoot problems related to samples,
reagents, and manufacture of array technology. Assist in the development of the user
manual for the gene expression launch of product. As lab manager oversee all items
relating to the Lab including ordering, stocking, equipment maintenance, while
overseeing two part-time lab assistants. Manage a personal assistant to help execute
experiments. Create and modify graphics and artwork to prepare papers for publishing
in scientific journals.

2001-03 Illumina, Inc. 9885 Towne Centre Drive San Diego, CA

Research Associate in Expression Profiling, Molecular Biology

Develop/Optimize RNA assay for use with Illumina’s BeadArray™ technology. Isolate
RNA from cells, produce PolyA+ mRNA, run RTs and IVTs. Tissue culture to produce
RNA for validation experiments. Fluorescently label cDNA. Develop automation for
RNA sample preparation in a large-scale production mode. Ordering and maintaining
supplies and stock reagents for my groups’ procedures. Hybridization of samples to
Illuminas BeadArray™ platform.

2000-01 Illumina, Inc. 9885 Towne Centre Drive San Diego, CA

Molecular Biology Intern

Quantifying oligonucleotides using a Tecan 96-well plate spectrophotometer,
hybridizations to bead arrays, Coulter counter enumeration of bead array pools.
Agarose gel electrophoresis of DNA/RNA and experience working with Axon’s laser-
based microarray scanner.
Engineering Intern
Automation of various lab tasks for high throughput processes. Assembly and
operation of automated fluid delivery and removal systems for BeadArray TM
hybridizations. Etching of glass and fiber optic substrates for Illumina’s bead array
platform. Surface characterization of fiber optic bundles using a micro-volume, CCD-
based, contact-angle instrument. The use of a Veeco Inferometer to test for fiber optic
surface uniformity. Development of procedural documents for the company.
