Means of Happiness for our Nation

By the Noble Shaykh `Abdul-`Azeez ibn Baaz
HERE IS NO doubt that every nation must have people who are able to show it the way and guide it to the right path. Our nation is favored with enjoining what is good, forbidding what is evil and calling to all that is good, taking Prophet Muhammad as the best example.

as to free himself from responsibility and be an example for others. Allaah (Exalted be He) says, And remind (by preaching the Quraan, O Muhammad for verily, the reminding profits the believers. Every believer, indeed every human, is in dire need to be reminded with the right of Allaah (Exalted be He) and the right of Allaah's Slaves on Him. Each person should be urged to fulfill these rights. Muslims must remind one another to adhere to the truth and to show patience in that. From a relative standpoint, Allaah (Exalted be He) demonstrates in His Clear Book the characteristics of the winners and their noble deeds and the characteristics of the losers and their dispraised practices. The most comprehensive text from the Qur'aan in this regard is Soorah (Qur'aanic chapter) of Al-`Asr: By Al-Asr (the time). Verily, man is in loss, Except those who believe (in Islaamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth [i.e. order one another to

Enjoining what is good, forbidding what is evil and calling to good, all of these matters are indeed among the means of happiness and salvation in the worldly life and in the Hereafter. Accordingly, every Muslim should exert effort to advise, guide, enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil so

Signs that Allaah is Pleased with His Servant

By the Noble Shaykh `Abdul-`Azeez ibn `Abdullaah Aal Ash-Shaykh
N THE GLORIOUS Qur'aan, Allaah informed us that He is pleased with righteous words and deeds. If you disbelieve, then verily, Allaah is not in need of you; He likes not disbelief for His slaves. And if you are grateful (by being believers), He is pleased therewith for you.

Accordingly, showing gratitude for Allaah's bounties, devoting our worship to Allaah, and keeping away from major and minor shirk (associating others with Allaah in His divinity or worship) are all reasons for earning Allaah's pleasure, as Allaah says: And if you are grateful (by being believers), He is pleased therewith for you. Moreover, Allaah is pleased if we are grateful and devoted to Him and

perform acts of worship in the best manner as made obligatory by Him. He says: You (O Muhammad ) will not find any people who believe in Allaah and the Last Day, making friendship with those who oppose Allaah and His Messenger even though they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindred (people). For such He has written Faith in their hearts, and strengthened them with Rooh (proofs, light and true guidance) from Himself. And He will admit them to Gardens (Paradise) under which rivers flow to dwell therein (forever). Allaah is pleased with them, and they with Him. They are the Party of Allaah. Verily, it is the Party of Allaah that will be the successful. According to this ayah

(Qur'aanic verse), Allaah informs us that He is pleased with those who give priority to the love of Allaah over the love of anyone else including parents, sons, brothers, family, and property. Moreover, Allaah says: Say (O Muhammad to mankind): "If you (really) love Allaah then follow me (i.e. accept Islaamic Monotheism, follow the Quraan and the Sunnah), Allaah will love you and forgive you your sins. Accordingly, Allaah informs us that following the way of Muhammad is a means of earning Allaah's Pleasure. Furthermore, He says: O you who believe! Whoever from among you turns back from his religion (Islaam), Allaah will bring a people whom He will love and they will love Him; humble towards the believers, stern towards the disbelievers, fighting in the Way of Allaah, and never fear of the blame of the blamers. Thus, characteristics of those loved by Allaah include being humble towards the believers, stern towards the disbelievers, fighting in the Way of Allaah, and never fearing the blame of the blamers. Therefore, people as such are rightfully described as loving Allaah and being loved by Him. In other words, Allaah's good pleasure and love are earned by obeying Allaah through doing that which He enjoined us to do and avoiding that which He forbade. By doing so, we will reach the stage of Awliyaa' (pious people).

Even Creatures Have Rights

ROM THE BEST of manners is to be lenient with both humans and animals under your ownership. So being lenient with the human beings under your ownership is to feed them as you feed yourself, to clothe them as you clothe yourself and not burden them with that which they cannot bear. And being lenient with the animals under your ownership, inclusive of those which are used for riding or milking; each one differing according to that which you require them for. So in winter you place them in a warm place if they cannot bear the cold, and

in the summer in a cold place if they cannot bear the heat. And to provide food and drink if they cannot take care of themselves. If the animals are from those which are used for carrying people (goods), then not to overburden them with that which they cannot bear. This is indicative of the completeness of the Sharee`ah, and that it has not left anything out, even the creatures. Rather, it has allocated for them their rights. Shaykh Ibn 'Uthaymeen Makaarim al-Akhlaaq [Fatwa-Online]

Hereafter knows, acquires and calls others to these honorable characteristics. In addition, He (Exalted be He) elaborated on the characteristics of the losers so as to be manifest for a believer to know and, consequently, avoid. Those who contemplate and recite the Qur'an a lot recognize the characteristics of the winners and the losers in detail, for Allaah shows them in many Aayaat including the former Aayaat and also Ayah 9 of Soorah Al-Israa: Verily, this Quraan guides to that which is most just and right and gives glad tidings to the believers (in the Oneness of Allaah and His Messenger, Muhammad who work deeds of righteousness), that they shall have a great reward (Paradise). [Alifta.com]

perform all kinds of good deeds (Al-Maroof) which Allaah has ordained, and abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds (AlMunkar which Al laah has forbidden], and recommend one another to patience (for the sufferings, harms, and injuries which one may encounter in Allaahs Cause during preaching His religion of Islaamic Monotheism or Jihaad). This short Noble Soorah clarifies that there are four means of success: First: Belief in Allaah (Exalted be He) and His Messenger. Second: Righteous deeds. Third: Recommending one another to the truth.

Fourth: Recommending one another to patience. Whoever fulfills these four principles gains the greatest reward and is entitled to receive honor and eternal happiness on the Day of Judgment whereas those who abandon them return with the greatest loss and their abode will be Hell, the place of disgrace. Allaah (Glorified be He) explains, diversifies, and repeats the characteristics of the winners in His Noble Book so that a person who seeks salvation in this life and the

Loving for the sake of Allaah

he Shaykh was asked, Sometimes, I wish to tell you and other scholars or some brothers that, I love you for the sake of Allaah, but I refrain from doing so for fear that I may be lying. How does one know when he really loves another person for the sake of Allaah ? He, may Allaah have mercy on him, responded by saying, Allaah is more knowledgeable about the servant than the servant is about himself; and the servant knows himself more than others know him. So, if he finds in his heart that he loves this individual for the sake of Allaah and not for any worldly affairs. Whether from the perspective of wealth or any other matter, then this is evidence that he loves this individual for the sake of Allaah.

If he loves him, for example, as the Prophet said, Thus he whose migration was for Allaah and His Messenger, his migration was for Allaah and His Messenger, and he whose migration was to achieve some worldly benefit or to take some woman in marriage So if an individual has love for another person such that it is not based on the Deen, or he loves him for his wealth or his status or other than this from these matters; then this love is not based on the Deen and he would know this in his heart. So the one who would know this best is the individual himself. Shaykh Abdullaah alGhudyaan

Al-Islaam - the Religion of Peace and Mercy

This is the third part of the series based on a lecture from albaseerah.org by Shaykh Abdul Azeez As-Saeed, Professor and Head of the College of Sunnah at Imaam Muhammad Islaamic University.

the Shaykh concludes the discussion of the mercy of the Prophet and then proceeds with outlining the Mercy in the Religion of Islaam...
N THIS ISSUE

ISLAAM ENCOMPASSES ALL THE LEGISLATION WE NEED

The first point is that the religion of Islaam encompasses all the legislation which brings good to the people in this world and the next life; Allaah said, {We have neglected nothing in the Book} [Al-An`aam 6:38] He also said, {And We have sent down to you the Book (the Qur'aan) as an exposition of everything...} [An-Nahl 16:89]

ESTABLISHING JUSTICE AMONGST THE PEOPLE

From his mercy is what he was upon from establishing justice between the people he did not oppress anyone. The disbelievers lived in Madeenah just as the believers did. He was just towards them all; he ruled over the believers and disbelievers from the Arabs and the people of the Book and he did not oppress anyone. This justice which he was upon and which he practiced towards the Ansaar (those living in Madeenah who aided him), was due to his implementation of the Quraan which was revealed to him and also because he was sent as a mercy to all mankind. It is authentically reported that he said: I have not been sent as one who curses, but verily I have been sent as a mercy. [Muslim] His concern was that the people be guided to the Religion of Allaah. He called the people to Allaah from the day he was sent to the day that he died. These are just a few examples of his mercy. His mercy is much and we would not be able to enumerate them all at this time.

RELIGION OF EASE AND FORGIVENESS

The second characteristic is that it is a religion of ease and forgiveness. This is because Allaah raised the haraj (difficulty/burden) off of this nation. He raised from it the restrictions which previously applied to the earlier nations; He said, {Allaah burdens not a person beyond his scope} [Al-Baqarah 2:286] He also said, {Allaah does not want to place you in difficulty} [Al-Maaidah 5:6]

And He said, {Allaah puts no burden on any person beyond what He has given him} [At-Talaaq 65:7] I will give two examples of how the burdening has been raised from this nation of Islaam: 1. The first is repentance. In Islaam if the slave sins he may repent and Allaah will accept it from him. As for the previous nations, the repentance that was accepted from them for the act of shirk was that they killed themselves as Allaah said about them: {So turn in repentance to your Creator and kill yourselves (the innocent kill the wrong doers among you)} [Al-Baqarah 2:54] 2. The second example concerns purification. In Islaam, if impurity falls on your clothing you may wash it and it will be considered pure whereas the previous nations had to cut the impure part out of their clothing.

Inshaa Allaah, in the next issue we will continue with the Shaykhs discussion of Mercy in the Religion.

From Abu-Dardaa, when death was approaching him, he said: Shall I narrate a hadeeth to you which I heard from the Messenger of Allaah ? I heard the Messenger of Allaah saying:

MERCY IN THE RELIGION OF ISLAAM

We will now move on to look at the mercy encompassed in the great Religion of Islaam and its legislation.

Worship Allaah as if you see Him, if you do not see Him, then know that He sees you. Count yourself amongst the dead, be careful of the supplication of the oppressed since it is indeed answered. Whoever from amongst you can attend the two prayers, `Ishaa and Fajr prayer even if you have to crawl, then you should do so.
From Silsilah Al-Ahadeeth As-Saheehah of Shaykh Al-Albaani

ISLAAMIC BROTHERHOOD
Instructions: Match the Arabic terms with their English interpretations then fill in the blanks of the hadeeth below. QUESTION: In one of the ahaadeeth, the Prophet is reported to have said, Any person who is overcome by sadness or grief and supplicates, saying: O Allaah! I am Your servant, son of Your servant and Your female servant. My forelock is in Your Hand. Your decision concerning me shall certainly come to pass. Just is Your Judgment about me etc. Is it permissible for a woman to say in this du`aa and similar ones, I am Amatuk (your female servant), or should she say I am `Abduk (lit. your male servant)? ANSWER: The matter is open to choice, inshaa-Allaah (if Allaah wills), but it is better for her to say: Allaahumma inni amatuka wa abnatu abdika wa abnatu amatika (O Allaah, I am Your female servant, daughter of Your male and female servants), and so on. This is more appropriate and more befitting for her. However, if she says the wording that is reported in the hadeeth, there is no problem inshaa Allaah, because even though she is female, she is one of the Servants of Allaah . Shaykh Ibn Baaz [ Alifta.net] On the authority of 'Abee Hurayrah- Radiyallaahu `anhu - who said: "The Messenger of Allaah said: 'Do not _____ one another, and do not ________ one another, and do not _______ one another, and do not ________one another. And do not undercut one another in trade, but rather be slaves of Allaah and brothers. A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim: he does not _______ him, nor does he _____ him, nor does he _____ him, nor does he hold him in contempt. Taqwaa is here. And he pointed to his chest three times. It is evil enough for a man to hold his brother Muslim in contempt. 'The whole of a Muslim is inviolable for another Muslim: his ______, his _______, and his _______'."

BEST TIME FOR ADHKAAR

QUESTION: What is the best time for saying the adhkaar? ANSWER: The adhkaar of the evening can be offered from afternoon until sunset and at the beginning of the night. As for the time of adhkaar of the morning, it starts from the break of the dawn until midday. Allaah says, And glorify the praises of your Lord before the rising of the sun, and before its setting. Allaah also says, And remember your Lord within yourself, humbly and with fear and without loudness in words in the mornings, and in the afternoons. The word "afternoons" is the plural of "afternoon", and it is the period before sunset. Allaah also said, So glorify Allaah [above all that (evil) they associate with Him (O believers)] when you come up to the evening [i.e. offer the (Maghrib ) sunset and (Ishaa) night prayers], and when you enter the morning [i.e. offer the (Fajr) morning prayer]. And His are all the praises and thanks in the heavens and the earth; and (glorify Him) in the afternoon (i.e. offer Asr prayer) and when you come up to the time, when the day begins to decline (i.e. offer Zuhr prayer). (Ibn Abbaas said: "These are the five compulsory congregational prayers mentioned in the Quraan)." [Tafseer At-Tabari] The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta' [alifta.com]

LAUGHTER KILLS THE HEART

QUESTION: What is the extent of the authenticity of the hadeeth: Laughter (spiritually) kills the heart and removes the (spiritual) light from the face and is it correct that it has been authenticated the Prophet laughed until his molars (teeth) were visible?

RESPONSE: The authentic hadeeth is: Beware of too much laughter, for indeed it (spiritually) kills the heart.... and it is an authentic hadeeth and all praise is due to Allaah (alone) as I have made mention of it in As-Saheeh Al-Musnad mimmaa Laysa Fis-Saheehayn. VALUE OF ZAKAT-UL-FITR
QUESTION: What is the value of the Zakah (obligatory charity) of Ramadaan? ANSWER: It is mandatory that after one is finished with the papers or pages that contain Allaah's name, to safeguard the papers by burning them or burying them in clean soil. This is to protect the Quraanic verses and Allaah's names from being degraded. It is not allowed to throw them into the garbage heaps, into the street, or to use them as different kinds of sheets such as table cloths as by doing this one is degrading the (names of Allaah and His) verses and not safekeeping them.
