Helping you fix it right the first time - every time

Drivers Power Mirror Whistles While Driving

Currently Applies To: 0709 CR-V Is the drivers power mirror making an annoying high-pitched whistle while driving? A couple of things could be causing this: Theres a gap between the power mirror base and the door. The black tape at the base of the power mirror wire harness isnt sealing well or its unraveling. 8. Reinstall the mirror mount cover. 9. Go out for a test-drive. If the whistle is now gone, youre done with this repair. But if its still there . . . then look for other possible causes.

To fix this problem, find someone to help you and then follow these steps: 1. Lower the drivers window all the way. 2. Using a trim tool, carefully pry off the mirror mount cover. 3. With your assistant holding the mirror, remove the three flange nuts, then have your assistant pull the mirror base away from the door. 4. Cut an 8 mm x 150 mm piece of 5T EPT foam, and apply it to the vertical edge of the mirror base.

Hatch Glass Wont Open? Check the Rear Window Wiper Stop Switch
Currently Applies To: 0910 Pilot Got a hatch glass that wont open? A bad input from the rear window wiper stop switch might be the reason why. The under-dash fuse/relay box must see the rear window wiper in its park position before it will open the hatch glass. To check the switch input, hook up the HDS and select Body Electrical from the System Selection Menu and Wipers from the Mode Menu. Select Data List, and scroll down to Rear Auto Stop Switch. If the switch input is OFF, troubleshoot the rear window wiper stop switch circuit. If the switch input is ON, troubleshoot the hatch glass opener relay circuit.

S/M Fix: Resetting the Moonroof Control Unit, 0910 Pilot

Currently Applies To: 0910 Pilot Page 22-375 of the 0910 Pilot S/M needs a bit of tweaking. Steps 7 and 8 of the moonroof control unit reset procedure dont quite reflect how the moonroof really works. Heres how they should read: Step 7 Push and hold the moonroof switch forward (closed) until the moonroof moves to the hard stop (full tilt open) position and backs up slightly. Within 5 seconds, release the moonroof switch, then push and hold it in the forward (closed) position again. Step 8 Continue holding the moonroof switch forward (closed) until the moonroof moves to the full slide open position and then back to the full closed position. NOTE: Make sure you hold the moonroof switch in the forward (closed) position throughout the moonroofs travel. If you release the switch too soon, you will need to restart the procedure from step 7. Make these changes to your copies of the S/M. Theyll also be made in ISIS.

Rewrap wire harness with electrical tape.

5. Starting at the base of the power mirror wire harness, peel off about 3 inches of the black tape. 6. Cut a 100 mm length of electrical tape, and rewrap just that part of the harness. Make sure its a tight overlap for a smooth finish. 7. Have your assistant position the mirror base against the door while you reinstall the flange nuts and torque them to 9.8 Nm (7.2 lb-ft).

Front Passengers Seat Belt Tongue Stopper Button Too Low

Currently Applies To: 0710 CR-V If you get a vehicle in your shop for a complaint that the front passengers seat belt tongue stopper button is too low compared to the one on the drivers side, leave that button alone! Its supposed to be lower to keep the seat belt tongue from scuffing the B-pillar lower trim when no ones sitting in the seat.

SEAT BELT TONGUE

Weve noticed that some dealers have been trying to even things out by replacing the seat belt retractor or adding another button so the tongue sits higher on the seat belt. A word of advice: Dont do that! If you file a claim for the work, your dealership could get charged back.

Keep Your Distance When Doing Sensor ID Learning

Currently Applies To: All models with initiator-less and initiator-type TPMS When doing sensor ID learning, make sure you keep at least 10 feet of clearance between the tire pressure sensors youre trying to learn and other tire pressure sensors nearby. Those sensors can be on any TPMS-equipped vehicles, loose TPMS-type wheels, or just other loose tire pressure sensors (including any in your pocket). If you dont keep your distance, youll wind up having to do some very time-consuming repair work (especially on an Accord Crosstour) to make things right. And since its a technician-related error, that time cant be claimed under warranty. The 10-foot clearance rule is clearly stated in the HDS on-screen instructions, the S/M procedure, the accessory installation instructions, and even in a recently posted iN message. Heres how this problem could happen: Youre installing a set of accessory wheels. You pull off the factory wheels and lay them close by (within 10 feet). You mount the new wheels, and then hook up the HDS and try doing sensor ID learning. Since the tire pressure sensors on the factory wheels are too close, one or more of them gets triggered and learned instead of the ones on the new wheels. Youll know thats happened if the low tire pressure indicator keeps on flashing and wont go out when you drive the vehicle over 28 mph, like it says to do in the last step of the sensor ID learn procedure. If you run into this problem on a Accord Crosstour, heres what youve got to do: 1. Drive the vehicle for more than 20 minutes over 28 mph, and then turn off the engine for 30 seconds. 2. Start the engine again, and keep driving until the low tire pressure indicator stops flashing and goes off. Youll also notice the TPMS indicator comes on. 3. Use the HDS to clear any TPMS DTCs. 4. Make sure theres 10 feet of clearance from other tire pressure sensors (remember the rule), then do sensor ID learning again. If you run into this problem on any other model, just redo the sensor ID learn procedure. Want to kick up your TPMS knowledge? Go to Online University, and check out self-study module SSC 15, Initiatorless and Initiator-Type TPMS. Strong Fuel Smell While Filling the Tank? Check the Nozzle O-Ring
Currently Applies To: 0110 Civic GXs EDITORS NOTE: This article replaces Fuel Smell While Filling Tank: 0103 Civic GX in the November 02 issue of ServiceNews. Got a vehicle in your shop because of a strong fuel smell when filling the tank? The culprit might be a damaged or missing nozzle O-ring on the fuel receptacle.
NOZZLE O-RING

If this is the case, order P/N 91068-S1G-003 and replace that O-ring. Then drive over to a local CNG filling station and fill up the tank. If that strong smell is now gone, youre done with this repair. But if its not, or that O-ring was OK to begin with, then continue with normal system troubleshooting.

HomeLink Transceiver Wont Learn Remote Transmitters Code

Currently Applies To: All models with HomeLink To stretch battery life, many remote transmitters (were talking about the ones used for controlling garage doors, lighting, or security gatesespecially the ones you keep in your pocket) broadcast their codes for just 3 to 10 seconds when you push and hold their transmit button. Problem is, thats often not enough time for the HomeLink transceiver to learn the code. If the transceiver is having a tough time learning that transmitters code, try pushing the transmit button again and again. This should give it enough time to learn the code.

A/C Blows Warm Air; Compressor and Fans Rapidly Cycle

Currently Applies To: 0709 Civic Got a vehicle in your shop because the A/C is blowing warm air and the compressor and fans are rapidly cycling? A bad evaporator temperature sensor just might be the culprit. Heres how you can find out for sure: 1. Order a new evaporator temperature sensor P/N 80560-SNA-A01).

3. Start the engine, and turn on the A/C. If the compressor and fans stop their rapid cycling, the original sensor is bad. Refer to pages 21-86 thru 21-88 of the 0610 Civic S/M, and replace that sensor. (Online, enter keyword EVAPORATOR and select Evaporator Core Replacement from the list.) If the compressor and fans cycle like they should, then continue with normal system troubleshooting. IMPORTANT: Never run the A/C for more than just a couple of minutes with this setup. If you do, the evaporator core will freeze up and the system could get damaged.

Sending Snapshots to Tech Line Without a Reference Number

Got a snapshot to send to Tech Line but you dont have a reference number? No problem. Just use your dealer number and add a zero at the end; it takes the place of that reference number. Once youve sent your snapshot, wait about half an hour before calling Tech Line. This will cut down on your phone time and let you get on with other work.
