ANABA WINES
should you decide to make a weekend of it. One hint: when you stop into the tasting rooms, ask a bit about the region, about what in 2011 could best be described as an interesting crush. If the winemaker is there ask about the potential of the 2011 vintage (very good to excellent by many early estimates) and what his or her favorite varietals are. Talk to the tasting room folks about their favorite spots in the area and things to do and see, and strike up conversations with your fellow visitors. It all makes for an even richer and memorable experience in Los Carneros, particularly now, at holiday time. Holiday in Carneros will be held this weeekend, on Saturday November 19 and Sunday, November 20, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day. Tickets are $45 per person, $10 for designated drivers. Proceeds from Holiday in Carneros help to fund scholarships at Santa Rosa Junior College and Napa Valley College. For more information, go to www.carneroswineries.org or call toll free 1-800-909-4352.

Bennett Lane Winery Offers a Feast for the Senses this Thanksgiving
Located just north of downtown Calistoga, family-owned Bennett Lane Winerys friendly and casual tasting room is one wine country destination worth the drive north. The winery caters to all of the senses, offering guests one of the premier tasting experiences in the valley, and offers the perfect slice of fall as harvest at the winery comes to a close. Bennett Lanes tasting room has become known as the friendliest tasting room in the valley and this fall they are proud to share their new tasting room with their guests. Only eight years old, Bennett Lane has quickly become one of the top vintners in the valley and has upgraded their tasting room to match the amazing accolades that the wines have received in their first few years. It is fast becoming the must see destination for wine lovers visiting Californias newest AVA. Well known for being one of the friendliest and most welcoming wineries in the valley, Bennett Lane now adds being one of the most scenic and modern. In addition to the new elegantly appointed tasting bar, they are premiering their new custom ipad application for their guests to use for an interactive tasting experience. Guests can not only read the latest reviews and tasting notes but find interesting food pairing recipes, share their favorite new wines on Facebook and email their personal wine notes home, all while tasting a glass of Napas finest. Owner Randy Lynch notes; As a small winery we strive to not only make the best hand crafted wines available, but also one of the most educational and enjoyable tasting experiences around for guests coming to visit one of the premier wine growing regions in the world. The winery has more than just a new and updated tasting room to celebrate this year. The most sought after wine at Bennett Lane, the Reserve Cabernet has garnered critical acclaim for every vintage of release. The Maximus feasting wine blends are the perfect for the top feast of the year: Thanksgiving. The red feasting wine blend has had wine lovers flocking to Bennett Lanes tasting room since its inception. The current release 2006 Maximus Red Feasting Wine is being hailed as the best deal in the valley. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, this wine will please all of your guests this holiday season. According to Bennett Lane owner Randy Lynch, Our goal at Bennett Lane is to make wines of outstanding quality year after year, he says. We make every effort to use only the finest fruit and bring it to fruition in the bottle through meticulous winemaking. In addition to the red blend, they also produce White Maximus, a Sauvignon Blanc blend with a touch of Chardonnay and Muscat. This aromatic white is the perfect partner to all of your holiday meals. Bennett Lane Winery is located at 3340 Highway 128, approximately two miles north of Calistoga, and is open by appointment from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for tastings and tours. For more information visit the Bennett Lane website at www.bennettlane.com or call (707) 942-6684.
In addition to the fabulous upgrades to the winery, they have received an incredible twelve 90 plus Point scores this year alone from Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, and Robert Parker. Whether it the first visit or the first in a while, this is the perfect time to journey to the top of the Napa Valley and experience a tasting at Bennett Lane Winery. This fall, there are two incredible tasting options sure to please everyone from the wine beginner to the true Cabernet collector. Their flagship $15 flight buys guests tastes of four of Bennett Lanes wines, the Chardonnay, the Maximus Red Feasting Wine blend, the Merlot and the Cabernet Sauvignon. In addition they are offering their Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon flight for $25 person. This vertical tasting flight includes a sample of the 2006, 2007 and 2008 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.

Guglielmo Winery
From Our Vineyards to Your Table
Visitors are surprised because they discover a wine area that, although the oldest, is not always the one people think about.
GARY GUGLIELMO, GENERAL MANAGER
by Laura Ness
Just minutes from the Silicon Valley, the Santa Clara wine region still looks and feels much as it did a century ago. Here, the wine tasting experience at the 30 wineries, some very small, is laid back, casual and welcoming. The weather here is temperate and Mediterranean, offering a friendlier climate for grape ripening than many other regions. Guglielmo Winery, founded in 1925, is the oldest continually operating and family-owned winery in the area. Three brothers oversee the bustling operation, which custom crushes for clients, as well as for the winerys own labels. George Guglielmo oversees winemaking operations, while Gene works with the many retail shops and restaurants that have carried the wines for decades and Gary handles the business operations as General Manager. The beautiful old word piazza beckons guests for picnics and outings, while the Villa Emile Event Center hosts an increasing number of family events, stylish weddings and corporate affairs. Tasting here is relaxed and the friendly staff pours something for everyone, from old-world-style blends to top-of-the-line Private Reserve wines that continue to garner awards from renowned competitions and publications. Now is the perfect time to relax by splashing fountains, enjoying a bottle of award-winning Guglielmo wine as you watch hawks soar over splendidly colored autumnal vineyards. Theres always a sense of excitement and discovery at Guglielmo: winemakers George Guglielmo and Alan Dewitt constantly set the bar higher with each vintage. The 2008 Charbono (new release) is a stunning example of what this region can muster: complex, earthy, spicefilled and food-friendly. Perfect for your Thanksgiving table! The timehonored estate Petite Sirah and Zinfandel are standards of measure for classically made wines in the traditional style: modest oak, restrained alcohol levels, affordably priced. With the holidays upon us, Guglielmo invites you to shop their 23rd Annual Holiday Gift Faire, an unmatched collection of local and imported foods, home goods, fashion accessories, sumptuous gift baskets and dcor galore, held November 28 through December 30. Guglielmo is located at 1480 East Main Ave, Morgan Hill and is open daily from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. For more information, call (408) 7792145 or visit the website at www.guglielmowinery.com. Experience the time-honored tradition of true family hospitality.

Brassica 12
Brassica 12, features a distinctive dozen Napa Valley wines from some of the best and most sought-after producers, most of whom dont have tasting rooms. It is set to be one of the countrys most innovative programs to integrate producers into a restaurants wine program. These 12 producers will offer multiple wines poured by the glass and rotated on a seasonal and vintage-focused basis with retail sales of the wines at Brassica. The winemakers will also actively participate in tastings and meals at the restaurant and offer barrel samples and library wines. Knight and Ingellis envision the program as a way to support wineries that dont have tasting rooms, while introducing consumers to new and lesser-known vintners. Ingellis adds that the program will offer a handful of Sauvignon Blancs and Chardonnay, but will primarily focus on Pinot Noir, Zinfandel and other red wines that customers expect to enjoy in the Napa Valley. The current wineries included in the Brassica 12 are Bressler Vineyards, Rossi Wallace, El Molino, Jelly Jar, Favia, Hudson Vineyards, Herb Lamb Vineyards, Lang & Reed, Larkin, Dancing Hares, Jaffe Estate, and Arietta.

Purity of Style and Form
RASgalleries presents Three Artists. Three Techniques. Pure Creativity.
As autumn rolls out its rich warm colors, RASgalleries, Yountvilles prestigious American art glass gallery located at 6540 Washington Street, meets the moment with fresh, pure and exciting new work by Jack Storms, Bandhu Dunham and Abby Modell. The three artists bring a noble sense of purity to their works, though their styles and artistic backgrounds vary considerably. When we think of purity, we think perfection clean, flawless. This was the inspiration for bringing the uniquely different glass sculptures of Jack Storms and Bandhu Dunham, together with the snow white, iridized hot glass vessels of new gallery artist, Abby Modell, explains owner, Ronda Schaer. Clients will enjoy seeing completely different pieces created by using completely different techniques but all in the pureness of what is technically colorless. Jack Storms masters his cold glass technique by drawing on modern technology to create his one-of akind sculptures. For each piece, Storms uses the highest quality leaded crystal and optical glass with extreme clarity and great light refracting capability. This is combined with diachroic film, a thin molecular coating of pure metals reflecting two or more colors. Layers are then bonded to small polished crystal blocks to create multi-dimensional core pieces. After bonding to larger blocks of crystal and allowing for curing, the piece is ready for Jack to begin sculpting. A finished piece may have up to 100 small pieces of diachroic, crystal and optical glass making this an intensely laborious technique. Bandhu Dunham taught himself to lampwork (or torchwork), a glass technique that uses a gas fueled torch to melt rods and tubes of low melting point soft glass. Once in a molten state, the glass is formed by blowing or shaping with tools and hand movements. Lampworking differs from glassblowing in that a glassblower uses a blowpipe to inflate a bubble, whereas lampworking manipulates glass either by use of tools, gravity or blowing directly into the end of a glass tube. Influenced by her parents extensive art glass collection, Abbey Modell was destined to develop a passion for glass at an early age. She began her career as a fashion and fabrics designer and became inspired to translate movement and pattern into her glass vessels and sculpture. She is fascinated by the different hot glass blowing techniques from the Venetian era through contemporary master glass craftsmen such as Chihuly, Littleton & Venini. Combining her modern approach with traditional methods has led her to establish a unique statement in each piece. Visit RASgalleries, 6540 Washington Street (next to Bouchon) in Yountville, Napa Valley daily, except Tuesdays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call (707) 944-9211, email to rasart60@aol.com or on Facebook.

via computer and printed on fine art paper or canvas. The printing process is referred to as gicle. The artwork surpasses ordinary photographs in clarity, beauty and longevity. Ric Millers roots lie in photography, having learned the art of black and white from his father, Bob. His talent in composition and print making is from his training as an architect and practice as a designer; his goals are to have his artwork become ubiquitous among fine art collectors and for his images to raise consciousness of the precious natural beauty that surrounds us. Specializing in high quality Chardonnay, Merlot & Cabernet Sauvignon with a bit of Dry Riesling, Pinot Grigio, Grenache, Syrah
and Tempranillo from great vineyard sources - primarily in the Sonoma and Napa Counties - Charles Creek Vineyard produces wines that are food friendly, fruit driven and easily paired with meals. The winery Tasting Room is conveniently situated in a charming 1890s era storefront on the historic Sonoma Plaza. In addition to wine tasting and sales, the tasting room also provides space to show the work of local artists. The Charles Creek Vineyard Tasting Room and Gallery, open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., is located at 483 First St. West, on the historic Plaza in downtown Sonoma. For more information, call (707) 935-3848 or email alan@charlescreek.com.

and planting a 65 acre property in the northern end of the newly named, still not well known Santa Lucia Highlands AVA. Of all of the places they could have selected to establish a new "Premier Cru" estate, this site was to prove most perfect. Named the Double L (Double Luck, in honor of twin daughters), today this vineyard is one of the most famed winegrowing properties in California. A living laboratory, the organically certified Double L Vineyard boasts 20 different clones on 8 different rootstocks. It is also the source of Morgan's two most highly awarded flagship releases; the Double L Pinot Noir and Double L Chardonnay. With more than thirty years experience, Dan Lee and the Morgan label have been synonymous with artisan, vineyard-centric wines from the Santa Lucia Highlands and Monterey. Dan's conscientious and innovative farming regimens allied with traditional, "minimalist" winemaking techniques craft wines of balance, elegance and distinction.
