“Overcoming Defeat”

Joshus 8
Today we will see that the Lord never gives up on us, and we need to not give in to defeat,
instead of lying on the ground we need to stand up, dust ourselves and remember we
serve the God of second chances.

We can apply some principles in our lives that will help us to be victorious in our lives
today.

Joshua 8:1-2

God encourages Joshua


1. Don’t be afraid or discouraged.
a. Achan’s sin.
b. Joshua’s mistake.

Let your past defeats be just that the past and allow them to strengthen you.

God will use our failures to bring victories in our life’s and Glory to His name.

Let’s look at some people who had overcome defeat and gained victory.
1. Abraham. (lying)
2. Samson. (women)
3. Peter. (arrogance)
4. John Mark. (quitter)
5. David. (Bathsheba)
6. Jonah. (the runner)
7. Elijah. (woe is me)

God gives instructions


1. Take the whole army.
2. I give you Ai, and this time take the goods and the cattle.
a. How foolish Achan’s action look now.
b. If he would have just waited.
3. We need to follow God’s plans.
a. Victory happens when we follow God’s plans.

Joshua 8:3-8

Joshua takes no chances.


1. He took the whole army to war.

When we want to overcome our defeats we need to call on the whole army. Amen
1. Folded hands, bent knees, and close brothers or sisters.
God give the basic plan for victory, but he left the lay out part to Joshua.

Joshua 8:9-10

Joshua stays near the people


1. The people needed to see Joshua.
2. They need to know that he is leading them.

Gang Jesus is our Joshua, He will lead us into victory, He will give us the strength to go
forward, and He will protect us.

If we are going to overcome our past defeats we must be in fellowship with Christ and
follow His ways. Amen.

Let’s look at some principle that we can use in overcoming defeats.

 We need to claim our Victory and Refocus our eyes on God.


Romans 8:37

Don’t get stuck in defeat mode, how by hang out there.

Are we willing to try again?

 We need to listen carefully to God.


The Lord told them to don’t be discouraged and don’t be afraid.

Remembering God promises. Story. I will never leave you or forsake you.

 Make time for the Lord.


Joshua 8:30-35

After the victory they built an altar to God.


1. Mount Ebal.
2. At Mount Ebal and Mount Gerizim and worship the Lord.

Take time to thank God for the things that He has brought you through.

Never forget to make time for your spiritual life. Amen.

God made Sundays so that we can take a break from the craziness of your everyday lives
and focus on Him and His business.

How many of us say I don’t have the time?

 Remain Watchful.
We are told to meditate on the Word day and night? Because the enemy is out to kill and
destroy us.

The devil will make everything look good until he gets you, then he’ll reveal his true self.

These are just a few principles to keep in mind that will help us overcome our defeats.
Amen.
