OBSTACLE: #8 Bridge of No Return (PURE) The H-Hour is____ You are: ____PLT / ____SQD

1. SITUATION: A. Enemy Forces: Team-sized elements from the 1st battalion, 81st SAPA Rifle Regiment are conducting dismounted security patrols in our AO. These patrols consist of 2-4 soldiers, with small arms and sappers, trying to disrupt lines of communications by destroying bridges in our AO. The areas to the left and right of the bridge are mined. B. Friendly Forces: 1. Higher Unit: ____Co conducts river crossing, NLT H+30, in AO ANGUS, in order to re-supply C CO and enable them to continue their mission. 2. Left Unit: ____PLT conducts an area reconnaissance, NLT H+30, on OBJ EL CAMINO to provide early warning of the enemy. 3. Right Unit: ____PLT provides near side security, NLT H+30 on OBJ PALO VERDE to enable platoon to conduct river crossing. 2. MISSION: ____PLT conducts river crossing and link up with 1st PLT C CO on the far side of the bridge NLT H+30 in order to re-supply them with class III fuel. 3. EXECUTION: Commanders Intent: Time is critical. Conduct quick and safe river crossing and re-supply the PLT with class III fuel, thus enabling them to continue their mission. A. Concept of the Operation: ____PLT conducts river crossing and link up with 1st PLT C CO NLT H+30. B. Task to SUB Units: ____SQD (your squad) is the main effort quickly and safely moves the 55-gallon drum, along with all equipment and personnel to the other side of the obstacle, then proceed with link-up. ____SQD provides left flank security to allow __SQD to conduct river crossing. ____SQD provides left flank security to allow __SQD to conduct river crossing. ____SQD provides left flank security to allow __SQD to conduct river crossing. Coordinating Instructions: 1. The front of the bridges (where theres red tape) is mined and cannot be touched. 2. The only materials available to assist in crossing the bridge are the 2 planks and rope provided. 3. All SQD members and equipment must safely cross the bridge. 4. 55 gallon drum MUST be rolled. 5. Two spotters must be in the pit before/while any SQD members begin to physically cross the obstacle. 6. Gloves must be worn by SQD members whenever handling any piece of the supplied equipment. 7. All SQD members must maintain three points of contact over the pit, and the barrel DOES count as one point of contact. 8. The ground beneath the bridge is OFF LIMITS. 9. No jumping or throwing equipment.

4. SUSTAINMENT: A. General: CO Trains are located at the Briefing Area B. Materials and Services: Ration cycle is MMM and water can be topped off at the water cans located near the obstacle. C. Medical: MEDEVAC is available upon request. The PZ is located at the obstacle. 5. COMMAND AND CONTROL: A. Succession of Command: PL, PSG, 1SL, 2SL, 3SL, 4SL B. BRIDGE OF NO RETURN CONTROLLER INSTRUCTIONS 1. A foul occurs when: a. A plank is lost in the stream between the two spans of the bridge. b. A team member falls into the stream c. The 55 gallon drum is dropped into the stream. 2. When a team member or piece of equipment falls into the stream, the team member and/or equipment is given a 15 second penalty and the members/equipment must be returned to the starting position to start over. 1. The key to this task is in the positioning of the plank and placing sufficient weight on the critical end of the supporting plank. 2. All squad members must cross the obstacle. 3. The drum and all equipment must be moved across the obstacle.
