INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this Work is to present the usefulness of the prioritization

matrix as a management and planning tool at an organizational and/or personal level.

In this way, the aim is to break down its characteristics and understand the way in

which it allows decisions to be made when it comes to successfully solving a problem

or assigning a certain degree of priority to the activities of a specific department.

The problem prioritization or assessment matrix is a tool that consists of a table

in which different criteria are presented that allow a choice to be made, in this case,

defining which problem may be a priority to address; It is useful for making decisions

and classifying problems, based on the weighting of options and application of

criteria.

When creating a prioritization matrix, brainstorming is used to create a

prioritized list of items. With this, the opinions of all the people involved in the

planning of the project are considered. Once the ideas have been listed, each one

must be evaluated and weighted, following a set of criteria.

ACTIVITY

2
Create a prioritization matrix for the problem posed in order to select the best

alternative as a result of the exercise.

The company Sueños de Blanco Ltda., is dedicated to the design and planning

of weddings and has hired you as a wedding planner to take charge of the next

wedding of the year. Juan and María are getting married next summer and have not

been able to agree on a place to hold the ceremony and reception. As a wedding

planner you must help them agree between the different venue alternatives taking

into account all the analysis variables.

Among the options are the following places and their respective banquet cost:

 Treasury A = $24,900,000

 Treasury B = $20,471,000

 Treasury C = $26,640,000

 Hotel A = $27,665,350

 Hotel B = $37,604,000

To facilitate the process, when these cases arise, evaluate the different

alternatives and be able to select the optimal one, the work team has defined certain

criteria for the construction of prioritization matrices, under the responsibility of the

person in charge ( wedding planner ). assigned to clients (boyfriends). These criteria

are: Location, exclusivity of the place, capacity, budget, advice and support and

infrastructure (ceremony and reception).

The first step is to weigh the seven criteria, since for each couple the criteria do

not have the same relevance or the same relative value. To do this, you as a wedding

3
planner have asked your clients to, individually, give a percentage of weight to each

of these criteria. The results were the following:

Once the assessment criteria were weighted and all the criteria were evaluated

for each place, rating from 1 to 5, with 5 being the maximum rating and 1 the

minimum, and the following final score was obtained:

Based on the previous data, complete the rating from 1 to 5 for the budget

criterion and design the alternative prioritization matrix, taking into account the

4
opinion of the couple and considering that the relevance percentages assigned affect

the final decision. proportionally (50/50), that is, the opinion of both is equally

important in the decision.

What is the best suggestion you can give as a wedding planner to your clients?

Requirements for the task

 Read the thought reference: Axis 3 - Tools for decision making (Search

and identification of alternatives and analysis of alternatives and selection).

 Consult the complementary reading “Multi-criteria methods and processes

for evaluation”, suggested in the thought reference.

 Carefully read the case presented in the description of this task.

DEVELOPMENT

1. Complete the global prioritization matrix with the missing data based on the

banquet costs mentioned in the case.

2. Answer the following question: according to the result of the weights

related to the criteria assigned by the couple, what is the most relevant criterion and

the least relevant criterion?

RTA: The most relevant criterion is Hacienda C, although it is a little more

expensive than the previous ones, it has the highest score for the ceremony, seeking

the best quality and attention to the comfort of the couple, observing that it has a

good location and good infrastructure. of the place generating the best comfort for

both the couple and the guests.

 The least relevant criterion is Hacienda A where it is evident that the score

obtained indicates that it does not meet the requirements of the couple, for this

reason it is not in accordance with the expectations they need.

Are they the same for the groom and the bride?

RTA: according to the information, it is observed that the criterion of greatest

relevance is the same for the groom and the bride because each criterion meets a

part of what each one requests to fully comply with their demands, seeking the best

alternatives. so that they feel satisfied with the criteria they request for their wedding.

3. Create the prioritization matrix taking into account the weight assigned to

each criterion and the scores obtained in the global prioritization matrix. Remember

that the assigned weights affect the final decision proportionally (50/50), that is, the

opinion of both (boyfriend and girlfriend) is equally important in the final decision.

4. Answer the main question of the case:

 What is the best suggestion you can give as a wedding planner to your

clients? Arrange the alternatives for the five locations from most viable to least viable.

RTA: the best suggestion is farm C but I attach the following table so that you

CRITERIO DE HACIENDA can

verify and make the best decisions:

 Depending on the result, who will be more satisfied with the decision (the

boyfriend or the girlfriend) and why?

RTA: According to the results, both of them would be satisfied because each

criterion meets some of the expectations they requested.

5. Analyze, quantify as appropriate and answer the following questions:

7
 What would be the decision if the budget criteria were not taken into

account?

RTA: According to the decision not to have the budget criterion, both would be

in agreement because the other criteria are linked to almost the same percentage to

each one and the budget criterion varies from the other criteria since this is the most

value for the ceremony.

 What would the decision be if the advice and support criteria were not

taken into account?

RTA: I think that the decision they would make would be Hotel B since it meets

almost all the expectations that the two of them as a couple want to meet on their

wedding day and that it is less of an investment budget than the other places.

 What would be the decision if the bride and groom determine that the

bride's opinion is more important regarding the weights by criteria? Consider what is

defined: bride's opinion (65%) vs. groom's opinion (35%).

RTA: The opinion that I think they would take would be that of Hotel A since it

is the most relevant to the percentages that they demand where they seek the best

comfort for themselves and their guests who do not care that the budget is higher

than the previous ones, which I encumber you is to have the best expectations of

your wedding from the guests.

CONCLUSIONS

This work that I have done has contributed in a very important way to the way

in which a person must make a decision throughout life, whether for something big or

small, since with this tool it allows giving control and management to a project that

one undertakes. proposes seeking the best alternatives to take which aims to

contribute to establishing priorities in decision-making, in relation to new topics that

can be the subject of development of an innovative offer where it seeks the need to

prioritize strategic issues for the development of institutional capacities of strategic

thinking, along with the construction of comprehensive and innovative future visions,

network management and the development of complex projects.

This tool allows work teams to interact to discuss issues of interest and so that

expert opinion from their internal and external networks can be channeled in an

orderly manner. By examining this series of criteria and variables in different ways,

topics can be observed and selected for the development of innovative offerings,

reducing uncertainty and increasing the ability to identify topics that may represent

the greatest economic, technological and social benefits for the company. .
