TECH NOTE # TN 2k-1

TN00-1 ISSUE DATE: March, 2000
ISSUED BY: J. Benson
PAGE: 1 of 2

PRODUCT(S) AFFECTED:

STAGE 100/160/100H
(Early production units}

SYMPTOMS:

Units oscillating (ringing) when in "More Drive" mode

CONDITION:

Inductor L1 (at output terminal) generates a strong field that gets picked up by the
signal/ground current loop of gain stage at U2a. High levels of gain induce ringing at
approximately 3.6kHz.

TEST FOR CONDITION:

"More Drive" selected. Reverb @ "1".

Set Drive and all tone controls at "10". Plug a guitar into input 1. Set guitar volume full
off. Adjust volume to verify oscillation (approximately 3.6kHz) occurs above "3 - 4".

REQUIRED ACTION:

Reroute the ground return for U2a to minimize the loop picking up from the output and
L1:

1) Cut wire jumper W10.

2) Create 24Ga wire jumper 3" long.
