New Year, New Conferences KentMUN ready for the fall

After a successful year and a great summer, KentMUN is back for another year of Model United Nations. Starting this fall, the society prepares to hit the ground running by visiting Oxford, Cambridge and Nottingham. At OXIMUN, Oxford Universitys Model United Nations conference, global top MUN associations take part, including delegations from West Point and the national MUN team of the Netherlands. After a KentMUN member received an honorary mention last year, we will aim ever higher this time. CUIMUN is Cambridges MUN conference, and traditionally hosts the top universities in the UK. Previous conferences have included creative committees like FIFA and other non-UN organizations. Again, KentMUN received an award last year. The society has already been awarded 10 places at CUIMUN 2011, representing Pakistan, Ghana, and Germany in the historical assembly. Nottingham hosts a conference considered to be an excellent start for those who are new to MUN, and as such KentMUN is aiming to procure as many slots as possible to allow all new members to have a strong introductory conference. On top of these conferences, KentMUN is actively searching for additional conferences to top off a host of regular activities that will be taking place as the term proceeds. The society also aims at cooperating with other societies such as the Current Affairs Society (CAS) and Amnesty International to provide opportunities for all society members to broaden their horizons and get to know other students around campus who are interested in international relations and current issues.

You Have the Floor

Lo Wilkinson Attended Model European Union in Strasbourg 2011, representing EPP as Romania in the European Parliament Out of the three big conferences I went to last year, Model European Union Strasbourg was by far the one I enjoyed the most Spending a whole week debating in the European Parliament building with over 190 participants from all over Europe is a unique and fantastic opportunity! Unlike other MUN conferences, MEU gives participants a much fuller experience thanks to journalists, live interpreting, lobbyists as well as delegates in the European Parliament and the Council. I enjoyed it so much that I am now on the organising team for MEU 2012, so feel free contact me if you are interested in going!
