FORT GORDON, GEORGIA PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES The Parish Council meeting was held on Monday August 8th, 2011 at 17:30. The following were

the council members and parishioners that attended this meeting: Fr. Damian Ilokaba Fr. Sam Anieweke Rev. Mr. Michael Marchek Rev. Mr. Dave Kriegel SCPO Mike Rivera Bill Holt Allen Larson Jeff Lepak Sherry Wodicka Richard Capozzoli Tina Raby Tom Dean Kelley Culver Lola Rivera Father Damian opened the meeting with a prayer. The following topics were discussed: 1. Parish Council President SCPO Mike Rivera handed out a copy of the meeting agenda. (A copy of the agenda has been attached to the minutes for future references). 2. Lola Rivera made a visual PowerPoint presentation on the St. Michaels Feast Day event. Lola informed the Council that this years event will be celebrated on September 24th, 2011 at the Courtyard Ballroom in Fort Gordon. She explained the sequence of events, and explained that we will start our celebration with a Mass at 5pm at our Chapel followed by dinner and fellowship at the Courtyard Ballroom. Lola presented the names of the ministry coordinators who are helping in organizing the event, and explained the benefits of renting the Courtyard Ballroom. The last slides of the PowerPoint presented the projected expenses for this event, and showed the detailed expenses (food and drinks, decoration, and miscellaneous). Lola noted that the total expenses were below the budget approved by the Parish Council last year. The Knights of Columbus suggested purchasing one more roasted pig for this event, and Father Damian suggested adding chicken to our meats. A few other items were added to the Food shopping list for this event. At the meeting, the council members discussed the idea of inviting single soldiers to the St. Michaels Feast Day. COL Jeff Lepak said that he was going to check whether or not the soldiers could be allowed to attend this celebration. (An outline of this presentation has been attached to the minutes for future references). 3. Religious Education represented by Sherry Wodicka. Sherry handed out a copy of the FY12 CCD calendar to the Executive Parish Council. Sherry announced that 40 children were registered for CCD so far. She stated that 10 adults signed up to teach CCD this year, but we still need teachers for 1st, 6th and 7th grade, and substitute teachers. Sherry confirmed that CCD will resume in September 11, and that there is an Orientation for teachers scheduled on 27 August. Sherry stated that the books for this season had arrived, and she added that we are getting them reduced on price and Sadler is sending new teacher manuals. When asked for Confirmation eligibility for this year, Sherry stated that 8th

graders will be eligible for confirmation if the 8th grade CCD teacher (Mike Rivera), the Priest, Deacons and parents think the child is ready. (A copy of the CCD calendar has been attached to the minutes for future references). 4. Father Damian informed the council members that the Religious Education Coordinator contract, the Music Director contract, and the Parish Life Coordinator contract are still on hold until further notice, but they should be for applicants sometimes in this month. Fr. Damian stated that as soon as he receives information on exact days, he will inform the council. 5. Parish Council Executive positions nominations FY12 are open. Deacon Marchek stated that Deacon Foster has received a few nominations so far. Parishioner COL Jeff Lepak has been nominated as Parish Council President. Parishioner Herman Gonzalez (RET) has been nominated as Parish Council Vice-President. Tina Raby will continue to serving the Parish Council as the Financial Advisor. At this moment the Parish Council Secretary position still open and looking for candidates. 6. MCCW was not represented at this meeting, but Lola Rivera reminded the Parish Council that MCCW kick off was moved from September 1st to September 8th due to the Labor Day celebration. 7. Tina Raby, Parish Council Financial Advisor presented the monthly report. She explained the importance of submitting the Purchase Orders as soon as possible. Tina stated that the money left in our account needs to be spent by September 9th. Lola Rivera stated Fr. Damians interest on purchasing a Large Screened TV for the social room, and also reminded the need of a small fridge to keep in the Priests office to keep the wine and water out of all hands. These two things will be priced for Father approval. (A copy of the report has been added to the minutes for future references). COL Lepak also addressed the need of purchasing candle holders that avoid spill wax. He was going to do some research on the options and prices. 8. Deacon Michael Marchek highlighted that we need to make changes when collecting offerings on Designated Offerings weekend to avoid future confusion with the baskets. He added that last weekend when ready to count the collections, both, designated offering for the Augusta Pregnancy Care Center and our Parish, the baskets were confused. An option to avoid these confusions is having the designated offering baskets visually marked, so it can be easily identified leaving no room for confusion. The council members agreed. 9. Deacon Dave Kriegel announced that it will be a training session for Extraordinary Ministry of Eucharist (EME) and Lectors on September 14th after Adoration. Deacon Kriegel stated that he ordered a new book of the Roman Missal. He would like to make copies of the Roman Missal changes, and inserting them in our weekly bulletins. Deacon Kriegel provided the inserts to Lola Rivera, and asked her to make as many copies as bulletins we distribute on weekends. Lola agreed. The first insert should be distributed on August 20th, 2011. 10. Knights of Columbus represented by the Grand Knight Allen Larson. Allen thanked the council and all the volunteers that helped in the Picnic. Fr. Damian informed Allen that Fr. Lea, the new priest that is coming will be the chaplain of the Knights of Columbus Ft. Gordon Chapter. 11. Tom Dean informed the council that Coffee and Theology is off until after Labor Day in September. Tuesday Bible Study will be on Summer break this month and it will resume on September 13. The Bible Study program will start a study on the Book of Hebrews.

12. Catholic Youth Ministry represented by JoAnn Capozzoli. JoAnn stated that the Youth Choir will meet for practice on August 17th at 6pm. The first Youth Mass this season is scheduled to be on Sunday August 28th at 10am. JoAnn informed the council the CYM is working close with the Religious Education Coordinator, Sherry Wodicka to prepare the Open House on September 11, 2011 and provide some refreshments and activities for children, parents and Catechists. Nothing is planned yet. JoAnn will provide more details on this project the next Parish Council. 13. Fr. Damian reminded the council the importance of continuing praying for vocations. Father confirmed that the new priest, Fr. Lea should arrive by the end of August since he has not completed his basic training yet. 14. Fr. Damian closed the meeting with a prayer and blessing at 6:10pm. 15. The next Council meeting will be held at 17:30 hours on Monday September 12, 2011. This is the last meeting that the Executive Parish Council FY11 will run the Parish Council. The current board will turn their reports over the new Executive Parish Council at the end of this meeting. A business meeting will be hold with both board members after closing the council meeting. An Induction Ceremony for the New Executive Board members will be celebrated on October 2nd, 2011 at the 10am Mass.
