"Used to" es un auxiliar modal. En español se suele traducir

Cómo usarlo

FASE 2 ELABORACIÓN:

Es una estructura sencilla, pues consiste básicamente en añadir el infinitivo del marcador,
verbo principal al verbo modal. Así, cuando se escriben o pronuncian frases borrador,
afirmativas, la dinámica sería: módulos

Para utilizarlo en forma negativa, la estructura es similar, pero añadiendo el auxiliar

“didn’t”, es decir, “do» en pasado y en negativo.

Sujeto + “didn’t”/”did not” + Use to + Verbo principal.

Usos del "used to"

 1  Para hablar de acciones habituales en el pasado.

I used to play tennis with my cousin.

Solía jugar al tenis con mi primo (ya no).

She used to go to the library every day.

Solía ir a la biblioteca todos los días (ya no).

Para hablar de acciones habituales en presente, se usa el presente simple no "used

to" ("used to" sólo tiene esta forma no tiene forma presente, ni past participle , ni
infinitivo, ni forma -ing).

He plays tennis with my cousin.

He uses to play tennis with my cousin sería incorrecto.

 2  Para hablar de estados pasados.

They used to be friends.

Eran amigos.

They used to be fun.

Eran divertidos

Para utilizarlo en forma negativa, la estructura es similar, pero añadiendo el auxiliar

“didn’t”, es decir, “do» en pasado y en negativo.

Sujeto + “didn’t”/”did not” + Use to + Verbo principal

El negativo de used to es didn’t use to. Significa “no solía” y se utiliza para

expresar acciones o estados que no eran habituales en el pasado. Por
ejemplo: He didn’t use to like vegetables when he was a kid. / No le solían gustar
las verduras cuando era niño.

When I lived in UK, food didn’t use to be really tasty – Cuando vivía en Reino Unido,
la comida no solía ser muy sabrosa.

I didn’t use to like apples, but now I’m addicted to them – No me gustaban las
manzanas, pero ahora soy adicto a ellas.

Finalmente, para frases interrogativas, el esquema es también muy simple, basta

con colocar el auxiliar “did” o “didn’t” antes del sujeto y el “use to” en infinitivo.
