Association for the Study of Australasia in Asia (ASAA) (website: www.asaa.net.au) in collaboration with Osmania University Centre for International Programmes, Hyderabad organizes 5th ASAA Conference on Vanishing Borders in the Age of Globalism: Austral-Asian Perspectives 12-14 December, 2011 The Association for the Study of Australasia in Asia will hold its Fifth Conference in Hyderabad, India in collaboration with Osmania University Centre for International Programmes (OUCIP), Osmania University. The convener of the conference is Professor C. Vijayasree. The conference will provide great opportunities to academics, research scholars and professionals to present their papers and interact inside and outside their particular disciplines. Cross-disciplinary submissions with other fields are welcome. The conference will have plenary lectures, panel discussions, creative writing sessions and paper presentations. A large number of participants from Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Malaysia are expected to join. The conference will have cultural events, book-release ceremony and sightseeing as we had at the last conference, held in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Paper sessions will have about four papers presented in each 90-minute session, giving each presenter 20 minutes for presentation, to be followed by discussion. Select papers will be published in book form. Membership of the Association (Rs. 500 for two years) is a pre-requisite to attend the conference. It should be sent to Dr. R.K. Three more have been held since that date: Mysore in 2000; Kerala again in 2003 and the last conference was held in Kandy, Sri Lanka in 2008. Four substantial publications have emerged from these conferences: New Directions in Australian Studies (1998), Austral-Asian Encounters (2001),

Diaspora (2004) and Change, Conflict and Convergence: Austral-Asian Scenarios (2010) Theme: Vanishing Borders in the Age of Globalism: Austral-Asian Perspectives. The Conference seeks to explore and theorize the multiple implications of globalism as well as the multiplicity of its impacts on human existence in the contemporary world. It aims to look at not only aspects of cultural change in the context of global (and local) social transformation but also the varied interventions that accompany them. This multi-disciplinary conference focusses on this unstable terrain in the context of Australia and Asia and addresses a range of issues including: Global culture, popular culture and modernity; Nation, language, indigeneity, migration and diasporic issues; Literary, artistic canons--formations, ruptures and reformations; gender constructions and interrogations; Implications for history, geography, education, environmental studies, health, diplomacy, besides the dominant concerns of business and economics. Call for Papers: Abstracts not exceeding 200 words should reach a member of the Conference Committee by 20 September 2011. Papers should not exceed twenty five minutes in delivery.
