Recent developments in pressure vessel design, testing of pressure vessels as per standards. Computer aided design of pressure vessels Rotating disc and rotating cylinder:- Disc with uniform thickness disc for uniform strength stresses in rotating cylinders with and without internal pressure. Thermal stress, creep and stress rupture; Dynamic and fatigue behaviour Friction theories, wear & types of wear, Lubrication, different modes of lubrication -hydrodynamic, hydrostatic & Elasto-Hydrodynamic, porous bearings, determination of static load capacity of bearing (Stribeks equation), bearing design & testing. Cryogenic Measurement systems: Temperature measurements, pressure measurements, flow measurements, liquid level measurements, fluid quality measurements. Importance of Cryogenic insulations: -Various factors for selection of insulations, various types such as expanded foams, gas filled& fibrous insulation, vacuum insulation, evacuated powder& fibrous insulation, opacified powder insulation, multi layer insulation, comparison of performance of various insulations. Salient Applications of cryogenic systems: Super conductive devices such as bearings, motors, cryotrons, magnets, space technology, space simulation chamber, cryogenics in biology and medicine, food preservation and industrial applications, nuclear propulsions ,chemical propulsions. Hazards:-Physical hazards, Chemical hazards, Physiological hazards, Combustion hazards, oxygen hazards, , accidents in cryogenic plants & prevention Safety in handling of cryogens, care for storage of gaseous cylinders, familiarization with regulations of department of explosives.

1. Course Objective:
Communication and Research are essential skills for success in professional career. The major objective of this course is to develop skills in communication and research. For the technocrats it is very important to have proper communication skills in representing their problems and ideas in a simple language, and reporting their research work. Apart from that, on several occasions they require skills in technical writing also. Therefore, the objective of the course is to acquaint the students with the basic concepts and techniques of communication that are useful in developing the skills of communicating effectively, and also for giving basic ideas of research methods and their reporting.

2. Course Duration:
The Course will have totally 56 hours which are divided into eight modules. Each module consists of seven hours of 60 minutes each and carries a weightage of about 7.5 marks each.
