Our purpose is to: Follow Jesus Together We do this by: Opening our hearts to people and to Christ in worship and fellowship, so that we know God and each other more fully, Opening our minds to deepen our Christian faith, understand our heritage, and think together to solve common problems, and Opening our doors in welcome and hospitality, even as we go out of those doors to invite people into God's church and be in service to all of our neighbors everywhere.

New Life
Have you ever wondered what they do for Easter in Australia? Easter is the beginning of Fall for them. We associate Easter with crocuses and robins and the promise of spring. In Australia, Easter comes at an inopportune time. But, then, Gods new life doesnt really come according to a schedule. The surprising love of God doesnt come when we expect it. Instead, God shows us hope through many circumstances, through the witness of others, through the story of our faith. Remember that God wants you to be transformed in love, so that you might be someone who lives according to an ethic that asks: what is best for everyone, what is best for the earth, what will give life? Then we live, by Gods grace, according to the life-giving power of God. ~~Jim This issue of the Voice is sponsored by Fola Fietz in celebration of Clarences 90th birthday

Family Friendly Friday Night Film!
The family film for the evening of Friday, April 9th, at 7:00 p.m. is A Bugs Life. Experience the astonishing world of Flik and his tiny friends like never before as the magic of Pixar animation springs to life. Embark on an incredible journey with one little ant as he searches for a brave band of warriors to help him battle the bullying grasshoppers who threaten his home. When he stumbles on a bumbling troupe of unemployed circus bugs instead, their only hope for victory is the bond of friendship and the awesome power of imagination. Crawling with fun-loving characters and featuring a star-studded voice cast, this epic film of miniature proportions is a "triumph of storytelling." A BUG'S LIFE will keep the whole family buzzing for hours! Volunteers for ushers, food servers, set up and clean up are always needed. Come and join this growing family ministry!

Volunteer Needed
The Liturgy in Bloom Committee is in need of more people to help decorate our lovely altar. Here and there we lose someone, but there is no one to fill a vacant slot. So, we would appreciate your doing some serious thinking about becoming a "team mate" and working along side at least one other team mate. It can be a lot of fun if you get together ahead of time and plan your strategy. Consider coming aboard! Please contact Dorothy Hake @ 350-0083 or talk to me in church. Thanks.

UMW News
On March 11th, the Columbus UMW was host to Rev. Deborah Thompson from the Church Conference Office whose job is Coordinator of Missions. She was very interesting and informative, coming from a strong Methodist background (her father was also a Methodist minister). She has served in various communities in her career, even though Rev. Thompsons position is with the conference. She told us she has a hard time turning down UMW groups interested in hearing her speak about mission. Her mother was a very strong UMW influence for her and her heart is there, too. Thank you, Rev. Thompson. On April 10th (Saturday), Columbus UMW will bus to Milwaukee for a field trip to United Methodist Womens Center and the Hmong House of Good News. We are inviting anyone who wishes to join us, we have plenty of room on the bus. $20.00 covers bus fare, lunch is extra. Any non-perishable goods will be donated to both places. Please call the church office at 623-3625 to sign up. Please come it will be fun . . . When was the last time you were on a field trip?! ~~Patsy Roe, Secretary

Rotation Sunday School will be filled with lots of activity as we learn about the Beatitudes. There will be many opportunities for learning how the scriptures apply to the daily lives of all people. Art, music, drama, and cooking will provide many experiences to help students discover how to have a BE-attitude. Jesus teaches us how to BE in tune with Gods word. Safe Sanctuary Training Training is going well. The group is working on reviewing sample policy and procedural documents. We are getting closer to final review . April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. The child victim is never responsible for causing the abuse, and the child victim is never to be blamed for the abuse. Three million incidents of child abuse are reported each year. That equates to one incident every ten seconds around the clock, seven days a week! What is ABUSE? Child abuse may include Physical Abuse Emotional Abuse Neglect Sexual Abuse Ritual Abuse No matter where a child is harmed, or by whom, as Christians we grieve for the inestimable injury done and for the losses experienced by the child and the childs family. As Christians we are called to move beyond grieving to active efforts to eliminate the possibility of child abuse everywhere, and most especially in our churches. * (above information from the Safe Sanctuaries Training resource) Please pray for the children in our world. Jesus calls us to care for the children, and to take seriously his call to be role models of his love for them. We hear Jesus say in Matthew 18:5, Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me. Lets pray and work together to welcome AND PROTECT from harm, each and every child of God.
Thank you for your love and care and prayers. Mary Baker

Evaluation of 10:30 Worship Service
In September of 2008, we changed our worship schedule and added a second service, intending to reach out to new people. At that time, we said we would evaluate it after two years. So right now, we are figuring out how to do the evaluation we need to do in August of this year. We will be compiling information about the 10:30 service, and would like to know your questions. What would you like to know about it, that would help us evaluate it? Some questions might be:

Book StudyCaptivating
On Monday, April 19th, and Tuesday, April 20th, a study of the book Captivating will begin. The message of Captivating is this: Your heart matters more than anything else in all creation. The desires you had as a little girl and the longings you feel as a womanthey are telling you of the life God created you to live. He offers to come now as the Hero of your story, to rescue your heart and release you to live as a fully alive and feminine woman. A woman who is truly captivating. The study will be led by Kerrie Shea and Peggy Goetsch and will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. You have a choice of either night and are welcome at both. If you are interested in this study, please sign up on the clipboards during worship or by calling the church at 623-3625. The hope is that this study will truly bless your heart!
adding a second worship service? What are the financial costs for the music personnel, etc. for 10:30 worship? What positive financial impact has the 10:30 worship made? What has it done to make new/ renewed disciples of Jesus Christ? What are the needs the 10:30 service has met? How many people has it brought to our church that would not come to a traditional service? How has 10:30 worship affected our other ministries?
Please give your additional questions to Dan Burnard or the church office by April 15, so the Church Council can put together the criteria to evaluate the 10:30 service.
worship 3. Consider a Relational Covenant 4. Getting more people involved in ministry: Groups each should have some elements of prayer, serving, and support for the members of the group. Some options for this would include a drama group, a group reaching out to youth, adult studies, etc. 5. Continuing Education about preaching If you have comments about Pastor Jim's goals, or would like to make suggestions about any of our staff members, please contact the members of the Staff Parish Relations Committee: Rhonda Miller, Charles Fuller, Tessie Sharrow, Kelly Green, Stuart Smith, Philip Waterworth or Patsy Roe.
Our deepest sympathy to Nick & Tessie Sharrow and their family on the death of Tessies father, Lon Bond. Pastor Jim officiated at a graveside burial on Saturday, March 27th.
