Minnie Notes: This is for everyone who has not noticed.

When I first intended to write Spirits (I), I mostly drew/wrote in Adas prospective because well, Im a ten-year-old who could not understand the voice of a male that well. Lucas was always the bad guy or the side character because the story was seen through Adas eyes. Ada hated Lucas and the audience hated Lucas too at first. In this draft however, I chose to do the opposite. I wrote mostly in Lucass prospective, making Ada looked like the bad guy or the side character. ^^;; Why did I choose to do this? Because one, I find writing in a males voice easier now (Goddess Alika knows why) and two, Ada has major character development (in comparison to Lucas). The person who has the major character development should be seen through anothers eyes because frankly, no one can see themselves develop. ^_^ I know I cant. For this chapter, it will be seen through Adas eyes for once. I know Ada can be annoying sometimes (talking about being so princess-like but not really) but I assure you Ada is one of those characters you will remember for quite a while. ^^ Ada is one of my favorites after all. ^_~ And Lucas is of course one of my favorites as well. Its funny. I usually dislike protagonists. Lucas is the only rare exception. XD Also, I know there is not a lot of wriggle room for pairings in this story (or at least there shouldnt be with the number of girls in this story ^^;;). And for those of you who already read New Era, the ending pairing is already obvious. ^^;; The reason why New Era has so many options for pairing is because it is the fourth book in the series. The first book has close to no pairings. The second book has more options than the first. The third book has even more options than the second. The fourth has more than the first three combined. XD It is not until Finale that there is finally practically no canon pairings at all (for those who dont know what canon means canon means official or in this case, the pairing is official by the writer). Now, you must ask: if Minnie is a romance/drama writer, why is she writing a story with no real pairings? Because the first book, at least in my head, is supposed to be a story that introduces a new type of world a world where women lead and men follow. I want to present the Mizunamian society (a total fantasy) in a meaningful plot. As writers like myself know, this story is meant to be a milieu-based fiction. What does this mean? It means the whole purpose of this story is to bring the readers into a fictional world where they can understand the culture, the laws, the social structure, and the environment of the people in this world. This is my main purpose for this story- to show my world of Philtopia and to show a society where the system is backwards. This is why I ask that no readers kill me for a lack of plot, a lack of complete characterizations, and especially a lack of romance and drama. Because I write this story with a completely different purpose, the writing style, the characterization, the descriptions will be different than what a lot of my usual readers are used to from previous works. I still hope the Minnie element in my story is still there though. ^^

Spirits Chapter IV: Black and White

Chapter IV: Black and White

In the room next to the steaming washroom, Ada found herself in the same location as the raven-haired male who walked in the room without knocking, as expected. Lucas casually glanced around the room and sat down on a nearby table where her old clothes laid. Folding his legs on top of the table, Lucas yawned and rocked his chair back and forth. Ada grumbled under her breath. How could a man be so informal? Ada tapped her foot, waiting for him to state his purpose. At last, Lucas stopped rocking his chair back and forth and moved his head to gaze at her momentarily. Ada wrapped her arms in front of her chest. She was not fully dressed yet. Right now, she was wrapped up in one long white towel. However, ever since that first night Lucas pressured her, she no longer felt embarrassed around him. He could stare for all he wanted. The most reassuring thing in the back of her mind said that no matter how much he stare or tease her, he could not have her. This made Ada satisfied and hopeful at her superiority to him. Lucas spoke up at last. The girls said you did not wear it. Lucas did not have to expand his words any further. Ada knew exactly what he meant. Im not wearing it. Ada responded calmly. I bought it for you so you must wear it, Lucas said forcefully. And am I supposed to feel grateful that you bought it for me? Ada asked with hard green eyes. Lucas was not dropping the subject. He removed his legs from the table and placed them down on the floor. Lucas dropped his elbows on either side of his legs as he looked up suspiciously at her. You would rather wear Cals clothes then? Ada did not answer. Because either way, if you have to wear something, then you should wear it. Lucas lifted his shoulder up in a shrug. The best option for me is if you wear nothing. Adas cheeks glowed red. Lucas smirked. But I guess you dont like that idea very much? Then, you should be satisfied I even bought it in the first place. Ada whirled on her heels and left her back to him. I would rather stay here. Really? Lucas asked in amazement. An amusing smirk played gracefully on his lips. I would rather you stay here too. What is that supposed to mean? Ada asked, returning her attention to him.

Lucas gave another casual shrug. Oh you know I cannot possibly do anything to you in public but Lucas glanced over at the lock on the door they were in. Ada followed his gaze and realized immediately what he was thinking. This room is pretty safe you see. No one is here but the two of us. This is a dressing room! Ada cried, outraged. Dressing room making out room same thing. Lucas said. Ada unconsciously took a few steps backwards. She realized her mistake in being in the same room with him. Ada made a mental note to herself never to underestimate Lucas Yeung. He, unlike other men, was not afraid of women. Ada remembered how strong he was last time. Ever since that first night, the memory never completely left her. It kept lingering in the back of her head. I own you! Ada tried, taking a few steps back. Lucas followed her lead and took a few steps forward. I know. Did I not say I rape you one, three, and ten times? Ada paled slightly. One plus three plus ten is fourteen right? Oh, I forgot. Lucas shook his head, smiling. In court, I said I raped you all night too huh? Fourteen plus twelve is twenty-six times. You owe me twenty-six times. Adas eyes glowed in indignation. Lucas did not make any motion to stop walking toward her. Ada continuously walked backwards. Finally, she could walk no more and fell over on top of a bench. Lucas was right in front of her now as he whispered into her ear, Wheres my payment? You are such a sick, calculating pervert! Ada told him fiercely. You started it, Lucas said innocently, crouching in front of her. How did I start it? Ada demanded. Well, youre the one who insist in staying in this room, Lucas said with a shrug. Plus, Flaine told me all about your dirty thoughts about me too. What dirty thoughts? Ada demanded again. Lucass eyes glowed at the question. Ada never noticed how beautiful his eyes were. Still, after noticing this, she tore her eyes away from his. She could not admit to him that she liked his eyes. It would give him more reason to think that she was attractive to him. She was not attracted to him, at least not yet. Suddenly, without her permission, she felt his hand on her hip. Ada jerked away in which Lucas stopped. He wanted to pursue her but he felt other priorities came first, like that meeting with Poppy. Ada was lucky this time. Lucas answered at last, Are you sure you can handle ten boys? What? Ada stood up straight in shock. Your hips are made to have kids Lucas said with gleaming eyes. If we dont work toward it now, how are we ever going to have ten boys?

Ada shook her head, gaining some courage back. I am not having kids with you. One, you are my slave so you have no right to demand me to have your kids. Two, the Queen will never allow me to have kids at this age. And three, you are not my husband. I am not willing to be a single parent. So Lucas thought about it. You want a title right? What you suggesting now? Ada asked in disbelief. Lets get hitched then, Lucas said carelessly. Ada dropped her jaw at how straightforward he said that. You give me ten kids and I give you myself. Deal? You cannot be serious, Ada shook her head. Why not? Lucas asked. Everything is in my favor. Yes, I know, Ada answered. But you cannot be serious. Serious? I dont need to be serious. Lucas said. I just want kids, okay? No, I beg to differ, Ada said angrily. You do not want to have kids. You want something else. Miss Virgin, Lucas teased. You cannot even say the word correctly. I cannot. I am a lady. Ada said fiercely. It does not matter, Lucas said suddenly. Are you going to accept my proposal or not? Youre not getting younger any time soon. Get married already. You are not forcing me to do anything, Ada said stubbornly. What is wrong with you? Lucas asked in exasperation. Women rape men to win a marriage proposal. I am giving you one for free. You should be grateful. I am not like other women, Ada said with as much dignity as she could manage. Lucas was persuasive. Ada could not lose this match. I will not fall for you. Yet you wanted to have kids with me? Lucas asked in dismay. I never said I wanted to have kids with you! Ada cried. Thats how I interpret it, Lucas said. Well, you interpret it wrong, Ada said in respond. Suddenly, Lucas started laughing. Ada grew heavily annoyed at his change in seriousness. From now on, she could never take Lucas seriously ever again. Did he find all of this a joke? Marriage was not a joke for her. Little did he know, the person she chose as her husband would determine a lot of things for her. Luckily, Lucas did not know she was a Mizunamian princess. Lucas finally stopped laughing and wiped some loose tears from his eyes. Did you actually think I wanted to marry you? Lucas asked at last. Ada moved her hand back to slap him when Lucas grabbed a hold of her wrist. You damn pirate! Ada cried with as much hatred as she could manage.

Milady, I dont marry women. I rape them and leave them. Lucas said at last. Youre lucky I have to endure you for two days already. You are under law to do so! Ada reminded. Yes, I know, Lucas interrupted. Under law, I am supposed to be a toy. Where is that part of the order? Why have you ignored it? Ada grumbled, knowing Lucas was right. What do you want? I want you to wear it, Lucas said, returning to their original conversation. Why are you so persistent in making me wear it? Ada asked, raising her voice. Because Lucas said solemnly. I need you to make Poppy jealous. Poppy? Ada repeated. Who is this Poppy? Poppy was the daughter of the caregiver who raped me, Lucas said without a hint of playfulness in his tone. I told her that I no longer belonged to her. I belonged to you now. That is why I need you to wear it and face her for me. You are asking me for a favor? Ada asked in surprise. Please, darling, Lucas said with a smile. Ada thought about it. Is this Poppy pretty? Ada decided to ask. Gorgeous, Lucas said without a doubt. Then how am I supposed to make her jealous? Ada asked again. By wearing it, and by being with me, Lucas answered. Believe me, milady, she is no competition to a natural Mizunamian like you. Natural Mizunamian? Ada repeated. Is that how you see it? I am calling you pretty. Drop it okay? Lucas said, irked now. Ada smirked. The battle was not over yet. The tide was changing now. Lucas was submitting. She had better take advantage of this. This was a one in a million chance. It might not happen ever again. With this in mind, Ada stuck her nose up and smiled pleasantly up at Lucas. Under a few conditions Ada started. Name them, Lucas said coldly. I have no time to waste breath. You are to buy me a closet full of gowns, dresses, and every other type of clothes I please. Then, you must fill the floor of that closet with every shoe I choose from heels to boots. Also, you must buy me a couple of furniture for my room. Ada said, smiling. Lucass jaw tightened. Ada thought about it for a few seconds and beamed at the next thought. To add to that, you must buy me every piece of jewelry I please. I never wear anything fake. Everything I choose will be in karats and carats. Grabbing her left hand with his left and slamming a fist next to her head, Lucas gained her complete attention as he growled under his

breath, If you stop that damn long, expensive list of yours this instant, I will compensate for the rest. What kind of compensation? Ada asked out loud. Without waiting for her to finish, Lucas released her hand and wrapped his arm around her waist instead. Then, without any further warning, Lucas started kissing her passionately. Ada felt her head spin as he continued to dominate her lips and soon enough, her mouth. When she thought he finally stopped, he surprised her by continuing stronger than before. Lucas was bold and merciless. His arm around her waist moved up and down her back without her noticing, loosening her towel. Ada felt her towel slipping as she continued to tug it up over and over again. With the way he continued to kiss her, Ada thought he was preparing for the end of the world or something to that extent. Even when she tried to push away, he would not release her. Then, after what felt like an hour, Lucas finally loosened his grip on her waist and removed him from her completely. Ada was panting against the wall while Lucas stood up straight, dusting his clothes of imaginary sand. Lucas moved his hand over his hair over and over again with his back to her. Ada continued to catch her breath while her green orbs lingered on his back. Lucas licked his lips before he turned around to face her with a satisfied expression on his face. I heard I was a good kisser, Lucas said without any sign of modesty. Care to confirm that? Ada panted and held her hand to her rapid beating heart. Ill wear it now. Good, Lucas said, smiling. I knew you would listen to reason sometime. Ada laughed softly. Right. Ill be waiting, Lucas said, turning around and leaving the room. The minute Lucas was gone, Ada collapsed on top of the bench and held her head against the wall. Her hand continued to shake from what happened between them. Her head was still swimming, and her heart was still beating rapidly. Feeling awfully dizzy, all Ada could manage to say over and over again was, Wow. **************************** A group of boys covered in mud sat idly in front of the dressing room when Lucas yawned loudly to signal his return to them. Every one of them turned their heads over to Lucas to find him smiling quite happily. Something went well for their captain. Flaine did not have to ask to know why Lucas was so happy. He won a battle against Ada. Lucas sat down next to Flaine and Dirge who immediately started massaging his back. In front of Lucas, Kei stuck his tongue out at Sherman. Im dirtier than ya. No, Im dirtier, Sherman responded with a frown.

Kei struck his chin with his thumb before he moved his hand along the scar on his cheek. Ya just jealous, thats all. No, thats not it, Sherman said, glaring at Kei. Kei glared back, twice as hard if that was possible. Sherman! Kei! Sherman responded angrily. The other members of the group watched indifferently as Sherman and Kei wrestled on the ground like they usually do. To the members of the crew, this was nothing new. Sherman and Kei would do anything to pick a fight with one another. The other members of the crew did not understand why Sherman and Kei had a love and hate relationship. One minute, they were walking side by side like best friends and the next, they would compete for something as ridiculous as who was dirtier. This ignorance led the rest of the crew to simply see it as a usual thing. For all they know, Lucas might be the only one who knew why. While the two boys wrestled on the ground, Lucas stood up and nudged off Flaine and Dirge. Waving back to the boys, Lucas smiled and said clearly, Im off to meet Poppy at the pub across the street. Can you boys please tell the milady to meet me there? With that, Lucas paid the women at the front counter before he left. The Captain seems awfully cheerful, Cal observed. He had dirt from top to bottom. Cal finally knew how Russ must have felt under this layer of filth. What is going on? He seems so upset a few seconds ago. Upset? Flaine asked, lifting a brow. No, he definitely wasnt upset. Lucas was simply punishing us in a very creative way, Dirge said solemnly. We all know Lucas hate to see us clean Dirge eyed Flaine. Except for Flaine. I would rather die! Flaine cried in shock. Dirge shook his head. We know. Thats why youre the only one allowed to be clean and neat. Flaine smiled brightly. But Im allowed to be clean sometimes too, Dan Light said in protest. Even under the dirt and mud, Dan Light still seemed to be the brightest from the rest. There was something about Dan Light that always made him seem so invisible to darkness. Because of this reason, every member of the group gave him a different nickname to suit his light exterior. With the exception of Lucas and Flaine, no one seemed to call him Dan Light. They liked their own nicknames of him. Thats because youre a healer and a doctor, Flaine said. Its your job to stay clean when youre on duty. Otherwise be a pig. Youre awesome, Flaine, Dan Light said brightly. Cal watched Kei and Sherman bumped against a nearby wall and fought off against the wall. Cal continued to follow the two struggling

boys toward the door with worried eyes. Are they going to be all right? Cal asked anxiously. There are no bruises I cant heal, Dan Light said confidently. Can you raise the dead too, Sunny? Cal asked in a cold voice. Flaine and Dirge flicked a look over at Cal in surprise. They never heard Cal used that tone before. What is up with you, Cal? Dan Light asked, irked. Are you okay, kid? Flaine asked worriedly. Cal kicked a nearby wall before he stomped toward the same door Lucas left earlier. Turning his head around, Cal said clearly, Im going back to Russ. Russ? Flaine and Dan Light asked at the same time. Because of these two, Cal jerked a head at the two boys on the ground. Russ was left alone in the storage all day. Cal nodded at the darkness outside the door. Russ doesnt like the dark. Im returning to him. Cal left without another word. No wonder he had mood swings all day Dan Light said with a shrug. One minute, he was happy and then, he was angry. I could not understand him. Obviously, watching these two, Flaine indicated at Kei and Sherman who was now by the door with their hands ready for punches. Made Cal realized that Russ was still left behind on the ship with the cargo. Cal really cares for Russ. Those kids Dan Light said with a shake of his head. The door swung open at last. Before the boys could turn over to glimpse at the new member of their crew, the young woman already crouched on the ground beside Kei and Sherman, trying to break the two up from punching each other to death. Ada struggled by pulling Kei, who was on top of Sherman, off first. After this defeated attempt, Ada switched sides and instead tried to pull Sherman off from under Kei. Although her attempts to break them up did not work, they suddenly stopped attacking each other and instead, stared right at her, causing Ada to flush. In one swift motion, all three were on their feet once more with Kei picking Ada up by her right arm and Sherman picking Ada up by her left arm. Both refused to release the captured arm they had taken. Ada looked from right to left, or from Kei to Sherman in confusion. Ignoring her confusion, Kei and Sherman glared right at each other with deadly glints in their eyes. What is wrong with you two? Ada asked furiously. Both boys turned their attention to her with an innocent look. Nothing. Are you sure youre Miss Zhou? Sherman asked suspiciously at Ada. Ya aint that dirty girlie we kidnapped the other night, Kei said. Adas cheeks reddened. I am Ada Zhou. Who else would I be?

Too sexy, Kei and Sherman said in unison with shaking heads. Ada threw both boys off her arms and folded them in front of her chest. Are you saying I cannot be sexy? Ada asked incredulously. Kei and Sherman exchanged looks. They were in trouble now. No, its not that really. Its just not like you to wear those clothes thats all, Sherman admitted. Exactly, Kei nodded. But ya look like a total Queen of the Pirates in them. I was hoping you would not say that, Ada said with a sigh. What are you two babbling about? Flaine asked, making his way over to the three in front of the door with the other boys right behind him. At the sight of Ada, Flaines jaw dropped. Ada flushed and looked away from Flaine. Flaine used his right hand to pop his jaw into place and started smiling. Did Lucas make you wear it? Yes, he did, Ada said with irritation in her tone. Oh milady, Flaine said pleasantly as he lifted her chin with his finger like he did the first night he inspected her for Lucas. This time, Ada did not struggle. Ada learned to trust Flaine more and more every hour. You have such lovely eyes I say velvet green matches your complexion more but Flaine shrugged. Lucass favorite color is black so he chose that color for you. Ada smirked. Thats funny. My favorite color is white for purity. Very funny, milady, Flaine said with a laugh. Very sexy, Kei and Sherman said in unison again. You know guys Dan Light came over and started pulling the two away from Ada. You two should know better than to hit on her. How did that thing we captured become that thing? Kei asked, lifting a brow. Dan Light shrugged. I dont know. No matter, Kei decided as he pushed Flaine out of the way and cupped Adas chin into his hand. I like flesh. Sherman pushed Kei out of the way and replaced his position in front of Ada. I like flesh more. You two knock it off, Flaine said angrily, recovering from the push. You two are using every excuse today to beat each other in something. He started it, Sherman said, pointing at Kei. Kei pointed right back. No, he did. I dont care who did! Flaine said, losing his temper slightly. If you two dont stop this instant, I wont be cooking for either of you! Oh no! Sherman cried. Not that Flaine! Kei said, obviously upset. Im glad you two are listening to me now, Flaine said with a nod. You are amazing, Flaine, Ada said suddenly.

Flaine felt something in his stomach for some reason as he turned back to Ada with a shaky smile. Er its nothing, milady. Just doing my job for Lucas. Ada lowered a brow. I see. What do you see milady? Flaine asked curiously. Ada leaned toward Flaine and said under her breath, Are you sure you do not want to be captain in his place? We can work together you know. You must be jesting, milady, Flaine said with a soft laugh. You are perfect to be captain. Why not? Ada asked, cocking her head. Because I dont have the brains to take that position. I might be able to cook, clean up after myself, and throw a few commands here and there without protest but Flaine laughed. I cannot create such creative punishments like Lucas can. I have faith in you, Ada said, smiling. Her main concern was Lucas. Lucas was quite a calculating male who she had learned not to take lightly of. If she could bump Lucas down to a lower position in his crew, he might lose some of his arrogance and listen to her more often. Plus, Flaine seemed to not be as reckless or irresponsible as Lucas. What kind of Captain disappears for days without a word? Unless Lucas dies Oh really? Ada asked with gleaming eyes. Milady, you better not have such foolish ideas in that pretty head of yours, Flaine warned playfully. I am wearing this! Ada said, placing her hand in front of her chest. What foolish idea can I possibly have against that man? Beautiful sarcasm, milady, Flaine said with a wink. Where is that captain of yours by the way? Ada asked curiously. He says he wants to meet me out here. He went on ahead, milady, Dan Light offered. To the pub on the other side of the road. Ada looked at Dan Light curiously. Was it just her or did he seem to have a glowing aura around him? Shaking her head of the thought, she simply nodded and smiled, Thank you Dan. Dan? Dan Light repeated. Thats a new one. That is your first name right? Ada asked, confused. It is right? Dan Light asked, turning over to Flaine in questioning. Flaine shrugged. I dont know, Light. Do you know? Flaine asked Sherman. Sherman shook his head. I dont know Auroras first name. Kei? Flaine asked. Kei also shook his head. No one told me Rainbows name or nothing!

What does the captain call him then? Ada asked. Northern Lights or just North sometimes, Dan Light answered. Why does one person have multiple nicknames? Ada asked in disbelief. All the boys shrugged. Beau stepped up and said clearly, Because hes Dan Light I guess. Dan Light is never Dan Light. Dan Light is always something else. You mean someone else, Flaine corrected. No, I mean something else, Beau replied, smirking. Ada flushed at the sight of Beau up in front. Of all the boys in the crew, Ada favored Beau for some reason she could not comprehend herself. For Flaine, he was neat and tidy. Cal was innocent and honest. Russ was... Russ. Dirges loyalty to Lucas was admirable. Kei and Sherman were cute when they either argue or get along with each other. Dan Light was not a very serious person and easily distracted, but he contrasted greatly with the other darkly garbed males of the group. Lott and Scythe were two contrasting friends who she learned to admire. For a pirate, Beau held onto the role well, unlike Flaine and Cal. Wearing a pair of black glasses either below his eyes on the bridge of his nose or on his forehead, Beau usually gently took them off when addressing to Lucas or a woman. From what Ada noticed, Beau love to change his hairstyle often for reasons unknown. However, his rare combination of dark rosy hair and dark purple eyes always made him stand out no matter what hairstyle he decided to experiment with. For his usual, according to Flaine, Beau simply left his long hair wavy to the left as well as curly bangs of loose hair to the left as well. Today, however, he straightened his hair and tied it loose so that it reached his back. Ada did not know what attracted her more to him- his sharp eyes and lopsided smile or his deep, mature voice. So what are you then Beau? Ada asked with all the courage she could manage. His purple eyes glanced over at her and stayed on her. Winking, Beau replied in his deep voice, Im innocent, thats what. Ada felt herself swoon but stopped herself just in time to move slowly over to the door to find Lucas. Thats nice. I have to go see the captain. Without shoes on? Beau asked curiously. Ada was about to open her lips to answer when Beau moved gracefully over to her side with a pair of heels Lucas left for her. Captain left this for you. Thanks, Ada managed. Beau gave her one of those classic lopsided smiles. No problem, milady. Wearing the black heels in a hurry, Ada left before she could make herself look more foolish in front of Beau. For some reason, Ada giggled to escape from his presence. Beau was so attractive to her. He

was not as good-looking as Lucas but he was not as arrogant either. Ada was relieved for that. ****************************** Sitting next to Poppy in the pub, Lucas ordered a few alcoholic drinks on the table as he gulped them down one by one. Poppy watched him with wide dark eyes. She knew Lucas loved drinking occasionally but she never saw him worked at it like this before. Crossing her long legs, Poppy picked up a glass of alcohol and gulped a mouthful herself. Lucas noticed her sudden movement and glanced over in her direction with a smirk on his face. Nervous, my dear Poppy? Lucas asked casually. You must be jesting with me again, Lucas, Poppy said, shrugging. You can tell when Im jesting, Poppy, Lucas said, frowning. I can tell when youre unhappy too, Poppy said. You are thinking right now. I am thinking, Lucas admitted. What is the best technique to kill you? Why do you hate me so much even until now? Poppy asked, placing most of her weight on the table in front of her. You took away my innocence, Lucas said. You turned me into this. You should thank me for turning you into this to give you such a freedom in life. Poppy said carelessly. Lucas laughed, shaking his head. I never thank anyone for anything. Lucas peered up at Poppy with sparkling eyes. And Im definitely not going to thank you for raping me at such a young age either. Go and thank yourself, why dont you? You seem happier now, Poppy pointed out. Raiding towns and running from the authority? Yes, I am very happy. Lucas said, dripping with sarcasm. You know I love you, Poppy said abruptly. Correction, you love my brother, Lucas said, hardening his eyes dramatically. I used to love your brother, Poppy retorted. No, you always love my brother, Lucas said curtly. Looking back now, I think Kiao might have made the best decision of his life to marry a rich aristocrat and stay away from you. However, with that comment, Lucas received a slap in the face. Feeling the pain in his cheek, Lucas refused to show any emotion on his face as he lifted his eyes up at the shaking Poppy and smiled pleasantly. Keep it up, Poppy. One day, you might actually find a man who wants you badly enough to endure abuse every day of his life. Lucas shot up to his feet and grabbed her wrist with a firm grip. Just dont expect it to be me. Lucas said through gritted teeth. I have had enough of your game. Who do you think you are? My mother? Lucas laughed, throwing his

head back before he returned his stern look back to her. You show no repentance for what you did to me. Now, youre even asking me to thank you? How absurd. Lucas Yeung! Poppy cried, standing up to him. My mother raised you! You keep shoving that down my throat dont you? Lucas asked angrily. You have no right to treat me this way! Poppy said clearly. And you have no right to treat me this way either! Lucas responded. Then, suddenly, Lucass tensed body loosened up when he felt two arms wrapped around his body into a tight embrace. Surprised, Lucas glanced back only to find Ada peering up at him with soft, loving green eyes. Ada had listened to the last part of the conversation and decided to make her appearance at that exact moment in fear that Lucas would lose his temper. Feeling her warmth behind him, Lucas sighed heavily and clasped her hand into his for a few fleeting seconds before he returned his gaze to the light pink-haired woman who dropped her jaw at the sight of Ada. Staring back at Poppy with her green eyes, Ada removed her arms from Lucass body and instead, pushed him softly down on the seat he was on before. Lucas obeyed, with his eyes also on Poppy. Ada smiled softly at Poppy before she stood behind Lucas and wrapped her arms around his neck in an affectionate manner. Ada noticed an obvious murderous look in Poppys dark eyes but ignored it as she played with Lucass collar with her hands. You wore it, Lucas said softly, under his breath. Of course I did, Ada said with a soft smile. You should have told me earlier what a witch she is. I would wear it without hesitation. Youre on my side? Lucas asked in surprise. Just this once, Ada said quickly. Dont get used to it. I wont, Lucas said, smirking. Ada dramatically increased the volume of her voice in order for Poppy to hear, Oh Lucas! Where were you? Ada dipped her arms lower. I miss you. Lucas did not what to expect next but he played along, Youre finally here. And who is she? Ada asked jealously, indicating at Poppy from across the table. You know I do not like you meeting other women, Lucas. Im sorry, Lucas said apologetically, flashing Ada up a smile. Poppy glared at Ada with intensity. Lucas never apologizes to her. Lucas never smiles for her like that. Still, she held her jealousy intact and said steadily, Im Poppy, a childhood friend of Lucas.

And the other boys too? Ada asked curiously. She did not remove her arms around Lucas, who was now placing his own hands on top of hers. I know the other boys, Poppy answered. Thats funny, Ada cocked her head. They never once mentioned your name. Poppy reddened dramatically. I stayed behind in the orphanage while the rest of them left. It is quite understandable. Is that so? Ada asked, shrugging. Yes, Poppy said irritably through gritted teeth. Lucas, Ada cooed, ignoring Poppy temporarily. I am tired from standing. Why didnt you say so earlier? Lucas asked. Right after, Lucas jerked Adas arm hard to move her around the chair and in front of him. In one yank, Lucas had Adas weight on his right leg, much to Poppys distaste. Lucas wrapped his arm around Adas naked waist in a tight embrace as he laid his head on her chest. Is this better for you, dear? Lucas asked. Much better, Ada said in a sweet voice. Anything for you, Lucas said, looking up at her. I see, Poppy interrupted. Ada turned to Poppy with curious eyes. Lucas narrowed his eyes, knowing Poppy too well. Why did I expect any differences between Lucas and Kiao? Poppy shrugged. They are exactly the same. Watch your tone, Poppy, Lucas warned. No, Lucas, Ada said quickly, lowering a brow. I want to hear this. Poppy smirked. Lucas, like Kiao, prefers aristocratic girls. Lucass jaw tightened considerably. Ada glanced at him worriedly. When Lucas grew annoyed, he usually tightened his jaw like this. Poppy continued, What other reasons would a good-looking man like Kiao choose to fall in love with an aristocrat, whose family is second to the throne, rather than one of the common girls down the street? I shouldnt blame him or Lucas actually. They are simply poor, leftover orphans who need to find the easiest way to become wealthy in this pitiful world. Thats not true! Lucas interrupted, shocking both Ada and Poppy. Lucas Ada said sadly. At first, I admit I did not approve of Kiaos choice, Lucas said, looking down. But soon, I realize that I did not give Kiao enough credit in making his own decisions. Kiao is intelligent and talented in every way. If he saw something in Joan Roupeez If he was willing to leave everything to be with her then Lucas lifted his head and gazed straight at Poppy. I, as his younger brother, will support him. You and your brother are both mad! Poppy cried in disbelief.

Lucas laughed, wiping some loose tears from his eyes. We are mad! Lucas grabbed Adas hand into his. We love the nobility who hurts us so! Poppy tossed Lucas a fiery look before she whirled on her heels and left the pub without another word. The minute Poppy left, Ada knocked Lucas to the ground without hesitation. Lucas recovered and stood back up, facing her with an annoyed look on his face. Ada returned his expression with an irked one of her own. You Mister Lucas Yeung are unbelievable! Ada shouted. How did a noble like you learn how to act so seductive? Lucas questioned. Ada fumed. Survival of the fittest. Clever, Lucas said with a slip of his tongue. Why are you angry anyway? You took advantage of me! Ada replied angrily. How so? Lucas asked innocently. You made me wear a Adas cheeks grew aflame. Brassiere! Oh! Lucass face lightened at the realization. Is that why youre so mad? What else? Ada blurted. Ada spun around in order for him to view her entire outfit. At the moment, Ada wore black from top to bottom with a tight black sleeveless shirt that barely covered the upper half portion of her body and an extremely short black velvet skirt that did not cover nearly enough of her legs. Ada never wore clothes like this before. All her life, she wore the gowns suitable for a lady of her status. With this outfit alone, she showed more skin than the nightgown she wore at night! If it werent for Lucas being very persuasive earlier, Ada would never be caught wearing such inappropriate clothes. Then again, Ada knew Lucas had a reputation to hold up and for her to wear clothes that made her look like the Queen of the Pirates, it satisfied him immensely. What is wrong with a brassiere? Lucas asked curiously, interested. I wore corsets my whole life, thats what! Ada retorted, obviously annoyed. But a corset is too long to fit the shirt, Lucas said. Thats also the reason! Ada cried. I wear a bodice that covers the entire half of my body, not a quarter of it! This is beyond reason! Corset is too old-fashion, Lucas said simply. I am a lady who has to wear corsets at all time to fit the hourglass image, Ada said in respond. Brassieres are a weak comparison. Hourglass image? Lucas repeated. Wellyou know Ada reddened. No, I dont know. Tell me. Lucas said, jerking a brow.

The womans body becomes like an hourglass the bosom is the top of the hourglass and the hips are the bottom of the hourglass Lucas shook his head at her explanation. You are not only a virgin, but you cannot even speak of a womans body right. I am a lady! Ada reminded. You are not vulgar enough I assume? Lucas dismissed the idea. Thats not right. You are not raised correctly, milady. You cannot speak of my upbringing as such! Ada said, shocked. Moving along Lucas said. I know what an hourglass image is. I simply want to hear you explain it to me, which you failed. Ada made a face, in which Lucas ignored and returned to the original subject. I understand how that shirt and brassiere may not fit a lady such as yourself who is too used to chemise, corsets, and bodices, but what is wrong with the skirt? Read my lips, Ada said solemnly. I. Do. Not. Wear. Skirts. Why not? Lucas asked, playing the simpleton. I wear gowns I wear dresses! Skirts are not appropriate. Ada said. Why is it not appropriate? Lucas dared. Ada reddened. Because in dresses, we wear an underskirt to cover our knickers. With a short skirt such as this, how am I to appropriately cover my knickers? I see, Lucas said with a nod. You dont want men to get the wrong idea. Right, Ada nodded. Its the same reason for the brassieres too right? The corset covers a lot more skin. Lucas said with another nod. Exactly, Ada agreed. Answer me this then. Isnt it more comfortable in the clothes youre wearing in comparison to the bodice youre used to? Isnt it easier to move around in as well? Well yes Ada admitted. Then does the rest matter? Lucas asked incredulously. I mean who is there to see you in those clothes except for me and my boys? Is that supposed to make me feel better? Ada asked in disbelief. You are one of us now, dear, Lucas said bitterly. Were not interested in you enough to take advantage of your body. You got it? I am not afraid of the boys, Lucas, Ada said tensely. I am more afraid of what you would do to me if you continue to see me in these clothes. That may a problem, Lucas admitted. But well work something out.

I doubt it, Ada said. You have issues, Mister Lucas, regarding you keeping your hands to yourself at all times. At the mention of this, Lucas grabbed a hold of Adas chin and lifted it to face him directly before he said softly, I dont see it as an issue, milady. I see it as a gift. You are one amusing fellow, Ada said, removing his touch. And you are one unbelievably warm creature, Lucas said with a purr. Ada reddened. I am really considering moving your sleeping location back in my room. We can keep each other warm out at sea. Like I said, Ada bumped Lucas with her elbow. You are one amusing fellow. Watching her walking ahead of him, Lucas continued to stare at her backside until he finally followed her to lead and said under his breath, Lets see how far I will go to make that happen, milady. Just you wait and see. Outside, Lucas and Ada walked a distance before Lucas heard Flaines worried call for him. Lucas grabbed a hold of Adas wrist and tugged her with him straight back to the rest of the boys. Flaine shook his head and indicated at a line of men and women surrounding the building. Dirge shook his head at Lucas as well. Lucas turned around and met the dark ebony eyes of a bearded man in his white uniform. At the sight of the general, Lucas pushed Ada behind him and toward Flaine. Keep her safe, Lucas muttered under his breath to Flaine. Then, he glanced over at Beau and Dirge who stood side by side. Protect her. Take her away if necessary. Understood? The two males nodded. Lucas turned his attention back to the general and went up to him and said, Hello General. What brings you here? Miss Poppy here, The General said, revealing Poppy standing behind him, said that you, Mister Lucas, have stolen the Ancient Book from the royal Mizunamian family. What do you have to say to this accusation? Lucas darted his eyes over at Poppy, who glanced away from him. Lucas tightened his grip on his sword at this accusation. When was it stolen General? Early this morning, The General answered. Lucas please Ada tugged his arm from behind. Lucas ignored her and as expected, Lucas pronounced, And if I did steal this book, what is my punishment then? So you admit in stealing the book? The General asked in surprise. Answer my question, Lucas said sternly. You will return what you have stolen, and come with us, The General answered without any expression on his face. Maybe I dont want to return anything, Lucas said carelessly. What are you going to do? Kill us all and hope to find the book out of

our dead bodies? What if were not stupid enough to carry around with us? What are you going to do about it? What do you think youre doing? Ada growled from behind. They probably hid the book on the woman, General, Poppy said. You leave us no choice, Mister Lucas, The General said. We must search every one of you, including the woman. You will do no such thing, General Deisenberg! Ada removed herself from behind Lucas, much to his dismay and stood in front with her arms crossed. The General almost fell backwards at the sight of her. Are you still willing to search me, General? Or would you rather speak to the Queen about it? Lady Ada! We heard you were Silence! Ada interrupted angrily. What evidence do you have to accuse Mister Lucas of such an act? Well we The General was speechless. The maids caught him in the act and drew down his face, Poppy answered. The General came to me and showed me the picture which I immediately recognized it as Lucass. What do you have to say about that? Lucas shoved Ada behind him once more. I did steal the book. Ada gave him a disbelieving look. You did what? I merely stole something that once belonged to my family. Is that something I should lie about? Lucas asked Ada incredulously. So you admit it! Poppy cried. I stole the book, Lucas nodded. And I also kidnapped Miss Ada. Ada opened her lips in protest but immediately, she was grabbed from behind by Flaine. Flaine covered her mouth with his hand before Beau came into view with a calm nod and smile. Beau picked Ada up by the waist and carried her over his shoulder before he ran the opposite direction, into the massaging center once more. The soldiers tried to follow Beau but the rest of the boys blocked the passage inside. The General took out his blade. I assume you and your men are not coming willing with us, Mister Lucas? My boys have nothing to do with this, Lucas said clearly. I am the only one to blame so if you want to punish someone, punish me. After that statement, Lucas withdrew his sword and attacked Poppy who quickly dodged the attack. While the soldiers tried to help Poppy up, Lucas jumped against the wall of the pub and onto the roof where he ran off without another word. The General growled and ordered half of the men to find Ada and Beau while the other half come with him after Lucas. Poppy nodded and followed the General in the direction after Lucas. The soldiers withdrew their weapons as the rest of the boys stood firmly in front of the massaging center.

Finally, some excitement around here! Scythe said happily. I aint letting a single one live. How about ya Sherman? Kei asked. Me neither, Sherman said with a firm nod. Hold your ground and attack as if your lives depended on it, Flaine ordered. Aye Flaine! The rest of the boys cried. Every one of them took out a specialized weapon, ready to fight back to defend Ada and Beau. For the Captain! Flaine started by throwing his butcher knife at the closest soldier, right at the neck. Taking out more knives from his purse, Flaine led the attack with the other boys close on his trail. Scythe shot arrows after arrows at his enemies. Lott stood in front of Scythe as a shield and used his giant axe to hack his way through. Sherman and Kei did their double sword combination routine like always. Sitting on top of the blade-wielding Alvin, Dan Light used consecutive Light Magic to complete his tasks. In return for Alvins support, every injury Alvin received, Dan Light whipped out his staff to heal. Niels swung his spear around at the ankles of the soldier, leaving his back open for Dirge to jump on and launch into the air, throwing multiple daggers at his target. On the landing, Niels would catch Dirge and swung at the stunned enemies for a final blow. Without paying attention to his back, one of the soldiers knocked Flaine by the neck and kicked his purse a few feet away from him. Dirge with his speed ran over and blocked the second attack sent at Flaine. Sherman who also noticed Flaines situation did not pay attention to the two soldiers who wounded him on both arms, making him fall to the ground. With Shermans inability to fight, Kei was also open to attack. Kei was knocked onto the ground by the next pound to the face. Kei knew his injury was nothing compared to Sherman as he reached his arm and wrapped his arms protectively around the other boy, Hang on, Sherman. Ill carry ya to Rainbow. Kei used his sword to block an attack and kicked the man backward. No, Kei, Sherman gasped, holding onto his bleeding arms. Im fine. Youre too vulnerable right now to carry me on your back. Sherman! There aint time for that now! Kei heaved Sherman on his back despite complaints. Im ready to attack anyone who hurt ya buddy. Kei had a murderous look in his eyes as he held his sword tight. Well be all right, Sherman. I know, Kei, Sherman nodded. I know. We must hold out long enough for Master Lucas to escape as well as Beau and Miss Queen to escape, Kei said. Aye, for the Captain, Sherman said. Aye, Kei nodded.

Dan Light raced over to Kei and Sherman to help out when a man blocked his path in which Alvin immediately eliminated within moments. Alvin nodded. Go on Danny Dan, Alvin said with his blade ready. Ill cover your back. Thanks, Al, Dan Light said, coming over to the two boys. Who needs healing first? Kei or Sherman? Sherman, Kei said. Kei, Sherman said at the same time. Make up your mind will ya? Dan Light asked annoyed. I really want to eat dinner soon. Alvin laughed from behind. Thats so like you Danny Dan. Alvin laughed again. And thats so like you, Kei and Sherman. Hurry up! Dirge called as well. Flaine is in trouble too. I have my work cut out for me, Dan Light sighed. Then, as if that wasnt enough, the boys heard Scythe groaned as he was thrown against the wall with Lott right behind him. Niels finished off his group of soldiers before he ran over to defend both Scythe and Lott. Dirge also ran over to help Niels kill off the last couple of soldiers. Scythe tried to recover as quickly as possible when his hand touched a leather object. Scythes eyes popped open to realize that Flaines purse was right under his hand. And with that, Scythe took out some needles and with his archer accuracy, blinded the last few soldiers left. Dirge and Niels nodded and killed them all in a few blows. Help Sherman now! Kei screamed, seeing Sherman bleeding more. Dan Light obeyed without hesitation and began healing the dark red-haired male. These wounds are pretty deep, Sherman Dan Light commented. I am going to mend them for now to stop the bleeding and do the rest on the ship. Thank Goddess ya safe, Sherman, Kei said. Sherman held onto Keis arm and said, Im so sorry, Kei. I cant believe I allow myself to get hurt like that and leave you open to a direct attack. I should be the one to apologize yall! Kei said in disbelief. At least you two are getting along now Flaine said breathlessly. Dirge was helping Flaine walk by allowing Flaine to lean against him. Scythe and Lott walked right next to them with Flaines purse with them. Thats one less thing we should worry about. Thank Goddess Alika. Lets never fight again, Sherman said, hugging Kei. Kei hugged Sherman back. At least for today. Thats good enough for me, Flaine sighed. Dirge watched worriedly at the direction Lucas left. I hope Lucas is okay He should be fine, Dan Light said hopefully. Lucas is strong.

I have faith in the captain, Alvin joined in. Lets hope Beau knows what hes doing with the young woman. This is Beau were talking about, Flaine said. He should be fine. Im actually more worried about Cal and Russ and the officer back on the ship, Niels said suddenly. Youre right, Flaine said, realizing the missing crewmembers. We should hurry back as fast as possible, Niels said. What about Beau and the Milady? Alvin asked. And Lucas? Dirge asked. We worry about them later, Flaine said reasonably. Russ and Cal are both the weakest and most vulnerable of the group. Good point, Alvin nodded. Lets check up on them first. As the boys ran back, Dirge looked over to Flaine curiously. Flaine, do you really think the Captain actually stole that Ancient Book or whatever? You know the Captain likes to lie about things like that, Flaine said simply. He sounded quite serious to me, Dirge said. Thats something for Lucas to worry about, not us, Flaine said. I wonder what he meant by it belonging to his family Dirge started. If he wants us to know, he will eventually tell us, Flaine said reasonably. True, I am thinking too much, Dirge said. Dont worry, Dirge, Flaine smiled. I was thinking about it as well. ****************************** Dropping Ada off near a lighted stage halfway across from town, Beau sat down in a chair among the crowd. Ada followed his routine and sat down next to him in the chair behind her. It seemed they were surrounded by a crowd of woman dressed in fancy gowns with low necklines and long skirts who were slowly sitting in a chair in front of the stage. After leaving the massage center from the back exit, Beau knew he had to take Ada somewhere crowded to lose the soldiers. This was the perfect place. During this time of month, rich aristocratic ladies usually came here to auction. Inside this large of a crowd, it would be hard to spot either of them. Ada gasped at the woman sitting next to her. Where in Goddess Alikas name did you buy that green pendant? Ada pointed at the pendant around the womans neck. The woman with curly pink hair lifted a brow at Adas own appearance that was quite unsuitable for a lady. Ada immediately caught this and explained quickly, I am testing out this new lingerie call a brassiere. Oh dear! The woman placed a dainty handkerchief to her lips. But that is what commoners wear. Why this change from a corset to a

brassiere? Even though Ada did not look like a lady, the tone she spoke in was definitely one of a noble upbringing so the clothes no longer fooled the lady when she heard Ada speak. You poor thing! Actually, milady, Beau interrupted, wrapping an arm over Adas shoulder in a carefree matter that brought redness to her cheeks. Did you not hear that brassieres are gaining popularity with men? The woman inspected Beau from top to bottom with skeptical eyes for a few seconds before her eyes sparked of interest. And you too, good sir? Aye, Beau started but he quickly coughed and corrected himself. Yes, I as well. I believe that Beau used his free arm to wrap it across Adas midriff. Ada reddened some more. With a brassiere, it is easier to embrace those you love. Is that so? The woman glanced down at her chest in wonder. That may be true actually. Corsets hug the body to the point that it is quite hard to feel the touch of a mans hug. Brassieres are better for that then? Ada nodded quickly. Yes, and it gives you more wriggle room too. I better report this to my friends, The woman said with an amused look on her face. Thank you so much, good sir and miss. I am simply trying to spread the news, thats all, Ada said with a smile. Am I to assume you are not here to auction, good sir and miss? The woman asked curiously. Auction? Ada asked, puzzled. Beau glanced over at Ada with amazed eyes. You do not know about the auction, milady? Heavens no, Ada replied. You do not have to worry, miss, The woman said, indicating at the lighted stage as an announcer walked out. You already have a man. The woman nodded at Beau. There is no need for you to waste gold on buying a man for a date. Adas eyes widened at the information she received. She had never heard of such activities such as this back at the palace. Then again, the knights and soldiers were reluctant to tell her anything about the world outside her home. Beau saw how bothered she was by this and asked if she wanted to leave. Ada nodded without really hearing the question and carefully turned back to the woman. Where did you buy that pendant? Ada asked again. I bought it from this handsome man, The woman answered. And is this handsome man young? The woman thought about it. Ada continued. Perhaps with raven-colored hair and raven-colored eyes? He has almond-shaped ebony eyes. He was probably wearing black.

Oh yes, The woman nodded. You know him? He is quite handsome. I never met any man like him before The woman shook her head. With the exception of Duchesss husband Kiao of course Oh I know him all right, Ada said through gritted teeth. Unfortunately. Why do you ask? The woman asked curiously. I am wondering if you are willing to sell the pendant? Ada suggested. I am willing to sell it, The woman admitted. But not for gold. Ada lifted a brow curiously. Then in exchange for what do you mean? You said you know that young man right? The one who sold it to me? The woman asked, smiling. Perchance you may convince him to court me? Adas eyes widened. Hes really not the best type for a lady such as yourself I am ashamed you do not see the potential in him, The woman said, almost scolding. That boy has a future ahead of him he does. His looks and intelligence rival those of royalty, I say. Beau smiled to himself to the side, which Ada noticed. Ada continued, Are you sure you are talking about the same person? Absolutely, The woman said without a doubt. He has excellent social skills. Ada felt her eye twitch, remembering their encounter in the dressing room. Yes he is very persuasive With his manner of talking and appearance alone, you can tell he is the most uncommon man among the commoners, The woman observed. Are you sure you want him to court you? Ada asked incredulously. He is probably not the best person to court you, I assure you. Actually, Beau interrupted, offering the lady his classic lopsided smile. I may court you if you wish. You see, he is a friend of mine and he is already interested in any young lady his age. I have no reason to think he would court anyone but her. Hes taken? The woman asked disappointed. He is? Ada asked in disbelief. Beau jerked a warning brow at her. Ada caught the gesture and added hurriedly, Oh that lady! Yes, he is already taken. And your name is? The woman asked, turning her interest back to Beau. My name is Beau Livingston, Beau answered with a slight bow. I am willing to court you without payment. The woman observed him, nodded, and allowed Beau to kiss her hand before she answered, My name is Francisca September. Where shall we meet?

How about a quarter after? Beau suggested. At the pub near here. I will go on ahead then, Mister Livingston, Francisca said. The pendant! Ada called after before she forgot. Francisca realized what Ada meant before she took it off and handed it to Ada willingly, This is quite a valuable pendant. You have a good eye, miss. I am a collector of fine jewelry myself, Ada admitted. We have something in common then, Francisca smiled before she stood up and left the crowd of women who were now gaping toward the stage at the next male up for auction. Ada turned to Beau. Are you sure, Beau? Ada asked curiously. What should I say to Lucas then? Oh, it wouldnt surprise Lucas, Beau said carelessly. He is quite used to me courting woman occasionally. Ada dropped her jaw in disbelief. You mean you actually like women? Beau cocked his head to the side. I fancy woman. Yes. What is so surprising? Your whole crew seems to detest women with their entire hearts, Ada said. That is true, Beau said. They detest the superiority women has over men. They detest the unfair salary system between a man and woman. None of them, I hope, detest women in general. We all fancy women. We are men after all. I think I understand. Ada said with some doubt. Well, maybe except for Kei and Russ, everyone else seems to like women, Beau said after thinking about it. Russ just doesnt talk to girls in general. And Kei only flirts with the girls Sherman likes. Why? Ada asked in disbelief. Kei will use any reason to rival and beat Sherman, Beau said simply. Thats Kei all right, Ada sighed. Still, you did not have to court her simply to help pay for the pendant Beau laughed. No, I did not do it because I wanted to help you pay for the pendant. I simply did not want the Captain to court that woman, thats all. Adas jaw dropped at how straightforward he was. Beau noticed this and gave her that lopsided grin again. Im jesting, milady. Of course I love the Captain and everything but I did it for you too. Beau rubbed his long rosy hair with that grin still on his face. Please dont tell the Captain this but I like the company of women. I like to help them as well. I am glad to hear that, Ada said with a slight blush. Milady, I am sorry to leave your company so soon but I must keep my word with Francisca, Beau said, standing up. Yes, thank you for your help, Ada said with a soft smile.

It is such a beautiful evening, Beau said, staring up at the sky. I feel like singing for some reason. You sing? Ada asked, curious. If you like, I am more than happy to sing you a song sometime, Beau offered. Actually, I see it now, Ada admitted. With your voice, you can hit the low notes quite easily. You must be a wonderful singer. Thank you, milady, Beau said with a slight bow. Beau moved his pair of shades higher on the bridge of his nose before he peered down at her once more. I know this is kind of sudden but may I call you by your first name? Ada felt her cheeks flushed. You are the first person to ask me that. Is that a no? Beau asked, a bit embarrassed now. No, I mean yes I mean Ada glanced away, embarrassed as well. I was hoping the Captain would be the first to call me by my first name but not once Ada shook her head at the thought. Beau I would love it if you call me Ada. Ada it is, Beau said with a nod. After he took another step, he stopped and stared at the stage without moving an inch. As if to check, Beau placed his pair of shades on his forehead and blinked twice. Speaking of the Captain, I think I found him Miss Ada. Ada followed Beaus gaze to the stage where Lucas sat on the chair, speaking to a pretty aristocratic girl in the front row. Ada felt her anger rising to a boiling point. One minute, he was on the run from the General and soldiers and then, the next, he appeared on stage out in the open? Ada did not know what she had to do to understand Lucas. Lucas was one unpredictable male. What is the Captain doing on the stage? Ada demanded. Did I not tell you? Beau asked, receiving a not so pleasant look from Ada. The Captain occasionally auctioned himself here, especially this time of year, so that he would be treated to a wealthy dinner. Last year, I think he convinced Flaine into it. I cannot believe him! Ada cried. Thats the Captain for you taking risks like that Beau shook his head. He thinks that if he places himself in a chair for the public to see, the government might catch him. Every year, the government fails to capture him though. He is supposed to be hiding somewhere, away from Poppy and General Deisenberg! Ada protested. Beau shrugged. The Captain is not afraid of the government. He likes to mock the government in ways like this by having one of the aristocratic girls spent gold on him. Beau laughed. Plus, the Captain is quite famous for date rape. Oh Goddess Ada grumbled. And you guys respect a man like this?

Hey, at least he is not submitting like every other male in this world, Beau pointed out. I am quite proud of him. He is so unpredictable. Seriously, Ada said with a shake of her head. He is asking to be thrown in prison! How did he get away for so long? Despite all appearances, the Captain is unstoppable, Beau said proudly. I am putting an end to this, Ada said. What are you going to do? Beau asked in disbelief. You can go now, Beau, Ada waved him off. Ada, what are you doing? Beau asked again, not moving. The bid is 20,000 gold coins so far, The announcer in front announced. A noble lady up front asked Lucas, What are your hobbies? Lucas gave her a bored look. She was not attractive enough for him but he decided to answer to catch the interest of prettier girls around the one who asked him. I read. I write. I tame animals. Lucas was about to continue when another girl asked, What type of writing do you do? Fiction? Letters? I write Lucas leaned toward that specific girl. Poetry. A murmur started between the women in the crowd. Ada glanced over at Beau in questioning. Beau gave her a shaky smile. He does actually. You jest! Ada cried in disbelief. Nay, he really does, Beau said quickly. Flaine maybe but Lucas? Not possible Lucas likes to write poetry. You can ask Flaine yourself. Beau answered. Ada raised her hand. 30,000 gold coins. The other women tossed Ada a look before one by one they started bidding again. Lucas instantly recognized Adas voice and gave her a warning look. She simply crossed her legs and waved at him with a satisfactory smirk on her face. 40,000 gold coins. 45,000 gold coins. 50,000 gold coins. Ada raised her hand again. 70,000 gold coins. Again, the women grew nervous at Adas challenge and brought up the price once more. Ada was actually starting to enjoy this. With the call for 85,000 gold coins, Ada knew she had to toss a value no other woman would dare challenge. 1,000,000 gold coins, Ada announced. The announcer repeated the value three times before he smacked his hammer and pronounced, Mister Yeung is sold for a day to the pretty lady in the fifth row.

Beau laughed and left before Lucas could grudgingly went over to where Ada sat, with her rice paper imprinted and stamped. Ada passed by Lucas and handed the rice paper with the value of a million gold coins written on it. Ada knew the amount was nothing in comparison the treasury under her family. The Queen might scold her for using it so recklessly, but at least, the Queen would assumed she bought an expensive necklace for herself again. The Queen would never imagine she bought Lucas. Did I mention how much I hate you? Lucas asked, sitting next to her. Is it just me or do I always own you in some form or another? Ada asked. Be quiet, Lucas growled. I thought so, Lucas, Ada said. This is your revenge, isnt it? Lucas asked, peering at her with daggers. Maybe, Ada said. You and I might have won a battle each but this war is far from over. Mark my words, Lucas Yeung. The count was one to one now.
