The
City

Ansonia
is
preparing
for
Hurricane
Irene
to
make
landfall
on
Sunday,
August
28,
2011.
The
current
forecast
is
that
Hurricane
Irene
will
have
a
major
impact
on
the
S tate
of
Connecticut.
Residents
should
take
this
s torm
as
a
s erious
threat
and
be
prepared
for
weather-related
emergencies.
Residents
should
prepare
for
the
s torm
by
making
sure
that
they
have
n eeded
supplies
such
as:
Flashlights
with
fresh
batteries
Emergency
food
supplies
including
non-perishables
and
extra
water
Charged
cell
phones
Battery
powered
radio
UNLESS
EVACUATION
OF
A
RESIDENCE
IS
ORDERED
OR
A
MEDICAL
EMERGENCY
EXISTS,
RESIDENTS
ARE
URGED
TO
REMAIN
INSIDE
THEIR
RESIDENCE
AND
STAY
OFF
THE
ROADS
DURING
THE
HURRICANE.
EMERGENCY
SHELTER
INFORMATION
As
part
of
the
emergency
operations
p lan,
the
City
of
Ansonia
is
making
preparations
to
open
an
emergency
shelter
for
Ansonia
residents,
if
n eeded.
In
event
that
the
emergency
shelter
is
n eeded,
the
opening
of
the
s helter
shall
b e
posted
on
the
City
of
Ansonia
web
site
at
www.cityofansonia.com
and
on
the
Valley
Independent
S entinel
website
at
www.valleyindependentsentinel.org.
Additionally,
information
can
b e
obtained
b y
calling
the
Ansonia
Police
Department
at
203-735-1885.
The
primary
emergency
shelter
for
the
City
of
Ansonia
will
b e
located
at
the
Ansonia
High
School,
20
Pulaski
Highway.
Parking
will
b e
a vailable
in
the
h igh
school
p arking
lots.
Residents
that
elect
to
use
the
shelter
are
encouraged
to
bring
blankets,
p illows
and
any
emergency
supplies
that
will
be
n eeded
for
a
short-term
s tay.
No
domestic
animals
except
for
emergency
s ervice
dogs
will
b e
a llowed
in
the
emergency
shelter.

SHELTER
If
the
primary
emergency
shelter
is
opened,
the
p et
shelter
will
be
located
a t
Mead
S chool,
75
F ord
Street.
Residents
will
b e
required
to
provide
food
and
a
kennel
for
their
pets
while
at
the
shelter.
