(Eating her muffin apparently really enjoying it, too) Captain Munch: I SAID, I have not seen the sight of land in many days. How many times do I have to repeat myself? It seems that is all I do anymore. Berry Muffin: Are there any more whales out there? Captain Munch: Well, there are not any right now. But I feel that we are hitting some rocks. Land must be close. (Peers into binoculars) Berry Muffin: I am just finishing my breakfast. (Closes bag) Now what was that you said? Captain Munch: I SAID..no.I will not repeat myself. Is that all you do is eat muffins. Dont you ever eat grits or oatmeal? Berry Muffin: Yuck! I have never eaten grits and do not like oatmeal. I like my cereal cold. (Raspberry Raul enters singing a familiar tune) Captain Munch: I think we are close to some land. It must be an island out there nearby. Raspberry Raul: (Continues singing) Somewhere over the rainbow, lies an island; somewhere under the rainbow we will find some land. Berry Muffin: I dont think it is a good time for your singing just now, Raspberry. Captain Munch: I think I see land. It is land! Raspberry Raul: (Whistles) Just whistle a little song.I see land..nice green land. Berry Muffin: You are nuts, Raspberry. You cant sing your way through everything, you know wont work. (Holding fishing pole and bucket) Captain Munch: Just look at those trees. Come on this is as far as we go.get your life jackets on, and the rest of the way will be on foot. Berry Muffin: Yuck! What was that thing that went by me? I cant see in this mucky water. Sailor Lynch: This is cool! Now I can really get some good fish! Yikes! (Falls in water) Berry Muffin: Here let me help you out. Take my arm. I did not say to dunk me. Captain Munch: Where is your life jacket, Sailor? Sailor Lynch: I left it on the boat. I came straight from my fishing. Captain Munch: This water is sure cool for this time of the year. Berry Muffin: I see coconuts! I love coconuts. (Holds up a bag of coconut) Is that what you were talking about, Captain Munch? Captain Munch: Sure was! I have not seen so many trees that full of coconuts in a long time. Mmmm! Cant wait to taste the juice. Raspberry Raul: That sounds so good! I love coconut. My favorite pie is coconut cream. Captain Munch: Lets get busy now and gather up as many as we can. We will need something to drink, and will get plenty from all these coconuts. Sailor Lynch: What is this place anyhow? Raspberry Raul: It looks like Coconut Island. Captain Munch: You are more right than you know; I believe it is Mokuoloe Island another name for Coconut Island.

SMALL GROUP ROTATIONS Four groups are provided that may rotate. If you prefer, you can do the Bible lesson, music, and drama all together and the craft, snack, and scripture in three separate smaller groups. Golden Instructions from the Word Station (30 minutes) Paul Discovers an Island Bible Message/Lesson Suggestion: Present the lesson using good voice inflection and try not to read it, rather tell it. Wear a captain, sailor, or fish hat and act out the motions as you speak. Paul was a man whom God used to share the Gospel message (Show Bible) of Salvation (Show wordless book explain meaning of all colors briefly). When God had first called him, he was treating the Christains mean and having them put in jail (Show handcuffs). God changed his name from Saul to Paul (Write these names on the board). God was going to show Paul how he must suffer for the sake of Christ. Eventually, Paul was taken prisoner and put on a ship (Draw a ship) that sailed for Ephesus. On this ship, there were many other prisoners along with Paul. The weather got bad (Draw storm cloud and high waters) and they transferred to an Egyptian ship that was headed for Italy. So setting out for sea they sailed once again. The winds were hard and they ran into more bad weather. It was impossible to stay on course (Make a large zig zag). So, they

finally made it to an island of Crete and docked. The Captain had lost all sense of time for they were sailing in the winter now and it was dangerous. Paul warned them that he only saw disaster ahead and may lose their lives if they head out to sea again. But since it was not a good place to stay, the ship owner decided to sail on. No sooner had they set sail then they lost all control of the ship. They came to a small island (Draw an island) called Claudia but the rocks (Add rocks) prevented them from getting close to the island, so they threw out drift anchors. The next day, they begin to throw out cargo dropping it overboard the ship (Dump stuff in the floor). The very next day, they begin to throw off all the tackle and other provisions. The lost all hope of any kind of rescue. Paul told them that they should have listening to him back in Crete. They could have avoided all this trouble. He then told them that not one single person would lose their life. God would do exactly as he told him. About 14 days later (Write this number on the board), they felt they were approaching land so some of the men tried to jump off the ship. Paul told the officer and his solders that they would all be in trouble if these men got away. So they stopped them. Paul called everyone together and told them that they should eat (they had not eaten in 14 days). He told them they would need their strength. So he prayed (Fold hands), and they all ate - all 276 of them (Ask a child to write this number on the board). When they finished eating, they dumped overboard the grain that was left. As daybreak came, no one could tell what land or beach they were at. Anyhow, they cut the anchors and raised the sail going toward the breach (Draw a beach). They did not make it. The ship began to break, and some of the soldiers decided to kill the prisoners so they would not escape. The officer stopped them and everyone made it to shore safely. They found out that they were on the Island of Malta. The natives (Draw some stick people) were friendly to them. Paul and all the prisoners gathered sticks to build a hugh bonfire (Draw some logs). As Paul picked up one sticks, a dangerous snake (Show a fake snake) was hanging from it. Paul just shook it off, but the natives were watching to see if he would die. When he did not, they thought that Paul must be a god. The chief of the island took them to his home and provided for them for three days (Hold up three fingers). This chiefs father was sick with a high fever and a serious infection.

Paul laid hands on him and prayed, and God healed him. Word spread around fast, and many came to be healed. God used Paul to heal the sick (Draw a stick person in a bed) during his stay at the Island of Malta. (Resource: Message Bible)
Questions for Group Discussion (Allow several children to respond to each question) 1. Have you ever prayed for healing and felt that God answered your prayer? 2. Why do people lay hands on the sick when they pray? Ans. Praying in the name of Jesus and seeking power from the Holy Spirit for help for support, is the help where physical healing is obtained.

3. What are some things God is looking for in us as he seeks for those to serve in ministry? Write answers on the board. 4. How do you think God feels when we will not respond to His call to serve? 5. When things get difficult as they did for Paul, why should we not quit? 6. In what ways can we be obedient to God in our daily lives? Write answers on the board. Allow all the children to find a golden coin in the sand box to take with them if they answer a question or participate. Tell them it is a reminder of the treasure that we find in knowing Jesus as our personal Savior, and how he will help us to obey him. They are to find this with their bare toes (No hands allowed) Watch the fun! Treasure from the Word Small Group (30 minutes) (Scripture Memorization)

So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me. (Acts 27:25)
1. Pass out Bibles and model read the scripture for the children. Next, read all together. Finally, ask a couple of children if they would like to read it all by themselves to the class. 2. Teach the verse. Courage is to be brave, daring, have guts, and not to be a coward. Paul had courage when he stood up to the officer and told him what God wanted them to do when they were on the ship. 3. Paul had faith that God would follow through with what he said he would do. Faith is trusting in God and having confidence that He will do what he says he will do. God did keep all the men safe and not one of them was harmed in the storm while sailing. 4. Things happen or take place for a reason. God used Paul to heal many who were sick. He used Paul to show that he is able to keep us in whatever storm of life that we face. Let us all say the verse again together. 5. Give each child a copy to take home. Cut out the verse and distribute. 6. Play the following jeopardy game. See below for a copy to send home with them. 7. Pass out the coloring sheet of the verse and allow the kids to work on it as they play the game, or afterwards. 8. Complete the Fill in the Blank. Instructions: Place a large quilt (single bed size) that is made in 8.5 X 11 square pieces on the wall. Tape to each material square, a sheet of paper that will say at random these words on the back side that the kids cannot see: Say the verse and dig for gold. Allow the kids one at a time to select a square and turn it over. If it says say the verse, they must say the verse. If it says dig for gold let them fish through the treasure chest and find a prize to take home, or give them a sticker. I use a plastic fish container with candy in it. You can keep the same squares to use over weekly. Sea Snack Small Group Time (30 minutes or less) Fish sticks and fries. Have prepared ready in advance. Allow the children to serve themselves and select a couple
