Michelle Obama showed off her enviably toned thighs as she powered past the President in tiny purple cycling shorts on the first family's bike ride on Martha's Vineyard today. Wearing a fashionable printed T-shirt and Converse trainers, the First Lady showed that she still has style, even when on vacation. But her husband looked goofy and tired as he lagged behind wearing a baggy black polo shirt, and perhaps more surprisingly jeans.

In the Massachussetts sunshine, the Commander-in-Chief looked uncomfortable in the heavy denim trousers. Mr Obama had rolled up the bottom of the jeans, in perhaps an attempt to avoid them getting stuck in the bicycle chain, or maybe because he was feeling the heat. The President seemed to have his clothing hoping for a more lesiurely paced cycle than his wife. The ride came as Mr Obama's approval rating reached a record low of minus 26. The poll for Tuesday showed that 19 per cent of the nation's voters strongly approve of his performance, compared to 45 per cent who strongly disapprove.

The President arrived last Thursday for a 10-day break from Washington that has been interrupted by developments in Libya. He is scheduled to return to the White House on Saturday. The 5,100-acre forest has become a favourite for the first family who also went cycling there during their previous two summers on the island off the Massachusetts coast. The President, who was wearing a cycle helmet, appeared to have learnt his lesson from his bike ride there two years ago when he sparked complaints from bike-safety advocates after he was photographed without a helmet.

I guess the liberals do not like the truth about Mooochelle since my comment was removed. She is not beautiful she is not even attractive I can see with my own eyes what she looks like and don't need people telling me what she looks like.A woman that size should never wear lycra shorts.I only wish she would take her won advice about what to eat because before she tells there how they should be in shape perhaps she should be first

Does'nt Miss Michelle look just precious in her bike shorts, why all the attention on them taking a bike ride, when our country is in deep trouble,the slumping housing markets, high unemployment rate high cost of everything, it goes on and on and there they are biking around without a care in the world and why would'nt they the way they are spending my tax dollars, enough is enough, can't wait till they move out of the white house and back to Chicago.

These people are on, hell'o, a vacation that most Americans take every year or 2-3 times per year. Big deal. And what if it costs the govt to protect them or house them? Hell'o. We elect a president and have to foot the bill to have one, including his vacations. All US govt employees get paid time off and many politicians get the perks of vacations, called retreats, on the govt dole. So let go of the wimpy whining. Even if you didn't vote for Obama or like his policies does not mean you should disrespect the office or the man -- or the First Family.

I could care less about her thighs or her arms or her hair. Were all born with those things and sometimes we cant determine how they come out. But her attitude is something I have many issues with. She nor her children look happy, nor does her other half. But they sure enjoy spending the heck out of our money. THAT I have an extreme issue with. She needs to get her butt back in the WH along with the rest of her family and stay put. Every time she leaves that building she costs me $$$.

"Enviably toned thighs"? Please! The Presidents wife is very hippy and thick-thighed. She's also got terrible buck teeth. I've seen her in person - I know. She may be fit and healthy overall but that doesn't mean she has a good figure...and I'm not all hyped over cosmetic surgery and stuff but this woman can afford to something with those buck teeth (braces anyone?) and why she chooses not to is beyond me.
