Have students repeat after you. o Remember to add some variety in your drills! Game or activity to practice the first language target. Tips: o Let stronger students or volunteers play first. o Dont push students to participate when their friends do, theyll follow. o When students make mistakes, refer back to the model. o Quit after everyone who wanted to play has had one turn. Dont let games go on too long. Here you have options. o Review your first language target (if students made many mistakes.) o Use another game or activity to practice the first language target. Make sure to increase the difficulty with each turn or game! o Introduce a second language target. Perform comprehension checks. Ask an ostrich student (one who isnt paying attention) to use the target language youve learned. Ask each student in turn to use the target language. Ask students out of turn to model the language or use it. Assign bookwork. Have students prepare pencils and paper or supply them yourself. Assign students a task related to the language topics theyve covered today. o Short stories or riddles are fun for older students. o Dictation exercises can be fun for younger students. Here you have options. o Perform one last comprehension check on each student (if you are behind time.) o Play one more round of a well-received game or activity (if you have plenty of time.) Have students tidy up the classroom. Give them one minute. Ask students what theyve learned today. They must be able to tell you. Assign homework and inform students of what they will learn next class. Have students line up quietly. Walk them out of the classroom to their parents.
