9th Grade Transition Information

Dear Families of Rising 9th Grade Students,

We hope that you are all doing well! The Middle School Counselors of Orange County Schools wanted to
send you our greetings and let you all know that we are entering an exciting time, which includes High
School course registration and the coordinating activities! Helping our eighth grade students and families
transition to high school is something that we get very excited about. We know that you may have
questions and we are hoping to be able to answer all of these throughout registration time. Listed below
are some of the important events and dates for your awareness and planning for your student’s transition
to high school:

High School Tours - Eighth grade students will tour their assigned high schools on Thursday, February 9th.
This will be an opportunity for students to hear from current high school students and take a tour of the
school.

Friday, March 3rd - Eighth graders will receive a letter from their school counselor detailing the high
school courses for which they have been recommended by their current teachers. The courses listed in
the letter are recommendations from their current teachers. They do not represent your student’s final
high school course selections. High school schedules will be finalized over the summer, and students will
not have access to their schedules until August.

Thursday, February 16th- A parent information night will be held from 5:30 PM-7:00 PM on the night of
Thursday, February 16th. This night will serve as a chance for you and your student to learn more about
the curriculum and opportunities available to you at Orange High School. This night will function on a
floating schedule, where you can walk around the school and talk to different departments, clubs, and
organizations that will be set up in booths. You will have the opportunity to gain important information
and ask any questions you may have regarding your student’s transition into Orange High School. For
Spanish-speaking families, an interpreter will be available in the media center to direct you.

February 22nd & 23rd- Orange High School counselors will visit each middle school to speak to students
about elective courses, career technical education pathways and other important information related to
the transition into high school. Orange High will visit Orange Middle School on Wednesday, February 22nd,
and will visit AL Stanback Middle School and Gravelly Hill Middle School on Thursday, February 23rd.

We are committed to providing our 8th graders with the best transition and registration process possible.
Middle school and high school counselors work collaboratively together to ensure a successful
registration process. Please make sure you are on the lookout for emails from your middle school
counselor on important reminders or changes.

Estimadas familias de los futuros alumnos de 9º grado,

¡Esperamos que a todos les esté yendo bien! Los Consejeros de las Escuelas Medias de las Escuelas del Condado de
Orange querían enviarles nuestros saludos y hacerles saber que estamos entrando en un tiempo emocionante, que
incluye la inscripción a los cursos de la Escuela Preparatoria y ¡las actividades de coordinación! Ayudar a nuestros
estudiantes de octavo grado y a sus familias en la transición a la Escuela Preparatoria es algo que nos entusiasma

inscripción. A continuación se enumeran algunos de los eventos y fechas importantes para su conocimiento y
planificación de la transición de su estudiante a la escuela preparatoria:

Viernes, 3 de marzo Los alumnos de octavo grado recibirán una carta de su consejero escolar detallando los cursos
de escuela preparatoria para los cuales han sido recomendados por sus maestros actuales. Los cursos enumerados
en la carta son recomendaciones de sus maestros actuales. No representan la selección final de cursos de escuela
preparatoria de su estudiante. Los horarios de la escuela preparatoria se finalizarán durante el verano, y los
estudiantes no tendrán acceso a sus horarios hasta agosto.

Jueves 16 de febrero- Una noche de información para padres se llevara a cabo de 5:30 PM-7:00 PM la noche del
jueves 16 de febrero. Esta noche servirá como una oportunidad para usted y su estudiante para aprender más sobre
el plan de estudios y las oportunidades disponibles para usted en la Escuela Preparatoria Orange. Esta noche
funcionará en un horario flotante, donde usted puede recorrer la escuela y hablar con diferentes departamentos,
clubes y organizaciones que se establecerán en cabinas. Usted tendrá la oportunidad de obtener información
importante y hacer cualquier pregunta que pueda tener con respecto a la transición de su estudiante a la Escuela
Preparatoria Orange. Para las familias de habla hispana, un intérprete estará disponible en el centro de medios de
comunicación para orientarle.

22 y 23 de febrero Los consejeros de la Escuela Preparatoria Orange visitarán cada escuela preparatoria para hablar
con los estudiantes sobre los cursos optativos, las vías de educación técnica profesional y otra información
importante relacionada con la transición a la escuela preparatoria. Orange High visitará Orange Escuela Media el
miércoles 22 de febrero y visitará AL Stanback Escuela Media y Gravelly Hill Escuela Media el jueves 23 de febrero.

Visitas a escuelas preparatorias - Los estudiantes de octavo grado visitarán sus escuelas preparatorias asignadas el
jueves 9 de febrero. Esta será una oportunidad para que los estudiantes escuchen a los estudiantes actuales de la
escuela preparatoria y hacer un recorrido por la escuela.

Estamos comprometidos a proporcionar a nuestros estudiantes de 8º grado el mejor proceso de transición y registro
posible. Los consejeros de las Escuelas Medias y Escuelas Preparatorias trabajan juntos para asegurar un proceso
de inscripción exitoso. Por favor, asegúrese de estar atento a los correos electrónicos de su consejero de la escuela
media sobre recordatorios importantes o cambios.
