Dear Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD Parents, In response to Senate Bill 283, Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD is providing written notice

of our intent to provide human sexuality instruction to students. Senate Bill 283 specifies: Before each school year, a school district shall provide written notice to a parent of each student enrolled in the district of the board of trustees decision regarding whether the district will provide human sexuality instruction to district students. If instruction will be provided, the notice must include: (1) a summary of the basic content of the districts human sexuality instruction to be provided to the students, including a statement informing the parent of the instructional requirements under state law (2) a statement of the parents right to: a. review the curriculum materials as provided by Subsection (j); and b. remove the student from any part of the districts human sexuality instruction without subjecting the student to any disciplinary action, academic penalty, or other sanction imposed by the district or the students school; and (3) information describing the opportunities for parental involvement in the development of the curriculum to be used in human sexuality instruction, including information regarding the local school health advisory council established under Subsection (a). Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD wishes to inform you that your student will be exposed to an abstinence sexual education program in 5th grade Physical Education class, 6th grade Physical Education class, and their high school Health class. The district has approved a three tiered program supported with materials from Choosing the Best. Choosing the Best is a leader in abstinence sex education, training, and curricula. Lessons are research-based, medical learning models that motivate students through relationship education, refusal-skill coaching, character education, and parent-teen interviews. These lessons are intended to stimulate dialogue between a student and his/her parents and are factual in nature. Each lesson concludes with an opportunity for students to dialogue with their parents. The lessons are carefully scripted but do include some detailed vocabulary pertaining to sexually transmitted disease and their transmission. Due to the sensitive nature of this curriculum, principals at the schools have reviewed the curriculum with their teachers so that it may be suitably taught to your children. Should you have any questions about this curriculum visit www.choosingthebest.org or if you wish to personally review the curriculum, please contact the Athletic Director at Standridge Stadium at 972-968-5660 or the principal of your childs school. Please be aware that you, as a parent, have the right to exempt your child from these lessons and an alternative assignment will be provided. Sincerely,
