POETICA FOR CONTEMPORARY POETRY By Ahmet ADA Wittgenstein asserts that Philosophy should be lined up like poetry. Given this statement, one can say that he puts emphasis on the importance of poetry as a form of narration. It is known that poetry is a style of knowledge: one can claim that the poet defines the nature, the society, the human being through his knowledge and experiences (life experiences), and he or she can transform them by employing conscience. That is why the reality of the fact that poetry is not created by itself and it is not pure would come to light. According to the content of conscience the poet expresses his or her impressions in imagination by transforming them into images. Words, the poetic lines, images, arts of the word, lines would be converted into poetry thanks to the poetical knowledge. The poet constructs his or her poem by making unusual associations and linguistic diversion. He or she ponders on how to express it as much as what to communicate. The poem in the end would create a contact with the reader. Metaphor seems to be the backbone of the arts of the word. Image, simile, likening depend on metaphor, and all of them are metaphors variables. As to contemporary poetry one can speak of the following: in modern poetry the word finds its existence through its own value. It doesnt get its clout from the associations rather from its own values. What does it mean? The word is not in a position like it is in a prose. It is now valued within itself and for itself. Barthes has realized that in contemporary poetry the words have broken away from their associations and eventually become autonomous. [Only the position of the words in the transition from classical poetry into modern poetry maintains the quality of being an usher.] Contemporary poetry conducts its communication with the reader by saying something to him or her. Nevertheless it carries out the job of delivering something by giving the style of saying priority. Image should verify Marx declaring The essence of the human being is equal to the whole of the social interrelations. The integrated image in poetry should put forward the humanistic values. While the distresses of others, , history, mythology, civilization, the existence question of the human would be the subject of contemporary poetry, the essence of the human should be kept at the poetical level. The elements peculiar to poetry such as visuality of image, inner music would be both complementing the functionality of the poetical language and building the poem. Contemporary poetry ought to display for us the unknown and unseen elements not the already known and the readily seen ones. I have to say: the concept of Objective connectedness is perceived most of the time as Objective correlation. Objective connectedness is not the relationship it establishes with the object of poetry directly or indirectly,

rather it is about all the relationships poetry forges with the language and the external side of the poem. This could be history, the chain of the events, facts. It is the entire relationship pattern outside the language, outside poetry which is caused by the deep structure that poetry builds up within the dialectics of surface composition plus the dialectics of that deep structure. This would make the relationship poetry establishes with reality genuine and sincere, and poetry gets enriched. It is the change of associations. Like the chain of the events the word Madmak (Knotweed) creates in our poetry. While the words, symbols, images flow at hermeneutic level, the relationship called Objective connectedness is constituted. I have to say (II): My relationship with philosophy goes through images. The discourse of philosophy differs from that of poetry. The poet should be aware of this: not all erudite words are considered a work of poetry. Poetry means another region, a distinct arrangement and separate spatial harmony. I have to say (III): When are we going to write about death, pains, murders, freedom, love, joy, brotherhood, peace, labors being abstract labor? Does the language of poetry suffice to reflect the fundamental problematique and values of the human beings? The chemistry of poetry would emerge in the mind through image. The subjective and objective worlds of the poet converge in the mind. Imagination organizes them in forms of images, words, lines. In imagination the process of the transformation of what we perceive paves the way to get to poetry. Its fictitious feature is obvious. The fictitious function is complemented with the language, the language of poetry. The words, lines flit about and turn into a structure. Poetical structure is the sum of all element of poetry [sound + meaning]. Unconventional associations we dont normally use in our daily lives have qualities to enrich contemporary poetry. They differ from conventional associations with their illogical, strange features. Unconventional associations are realized through the fact that they evoke new designs in our minds at the integration level of our selected signs. The reader, on the other hand, makes up striking meaning units. By referring to this linguistic tool, the poet would convey the bundles of the meaning into deep structure. Let me write he a line from Attill lhan: inside me a tired clock chimes!. In this line, the association of a tired clock is an unconventional one. This is so because a feature peculiar to humans is conveyed to an object. If you look carefully at them, this type of associations is the subject of linguistics. Unconventional associations, once they come forward through their meaning building features, act as the complementary units to create the poetical integrated content and fabric. [See nsal znl, Usages of Language in Literature]. The associations which are not integrated and outside of their contexts stay imprisoned in the surface structure. The functionality of the connected determinative group in contemporary poetry should be the builder of a structure. In a functionality which strengthens the inner connectedness of poetry Lastly, contemporary poetry is an integrated entity with all its elements. It is dense, sophisticated, and the surface structure is made up of the deep structure and the meaningful elements.
