AIC : CODE OF ETHICS AND GUIDELINES FOR PRACTICE I.

The conservation professional shall strive to attain the highest possible standards in all aspects of conservation, including, but not limited to, preventive conservation, examination, documentation, treatment, research, and education.

De professionele conservatie streeft om de hoogst mogelijke normen te bereiken in alle aspecten van het behoud, met inbegrip van, maar niet beperkt tot, preventieve conservering, onderzoek, documentatie, behandeling, onderzoek en onderwijs. II. All actions of the conservation professional must be governed by an informed respect for the cultural property, its unique character and significance, and the people or person who created it.

Alle acties van het behoud moeten worden geregeld door een professionele houding voor culturele goederen, het unieke karakter en betekenis, en de mensen of de persoon die het hebben gemaakt. III. While recognizing the right of society to make appropriate and respectful use of cultural property, the conservation professional shall serve as an advocate for the preservation of cultural property.

Terwijl het grootste deel van de maatschappij op een passende en respectvolle manier gebruik probeert te maken van culturele goederen, moet het professionele conservator dienen als een norm voor het behoud van culturele goederen. IV. The conservation professional shall practice within the limits of personal competence and education as well as within the limits of the available facilities.

De professionele conservator wordt uitgeoefend binnen de grenzen van de persoonlijke kunde ,onderwijs en binnen de grenzen van de beschikbare faciliteiten. V. While circumstances may limit the resources allocated to a particular situation, the quality of work that the conservation professional performs shall not be compromised.

Hoewel de omstandigheden de middelen voor een bepaalde situatie kunnen beperken, mag de kwaliteit van het werk dat de professionele conservator presteert niet in het gedrang komen. VI. The conservation professional must strive to select methods and materials that, to the best of current knowledge, do not adversely affect cultural property or its future examination, scientific investigation, treatment, or function.

De professionele conservator dient te streven naar methoden en materialen, die tot de beste hedendaagse kennis behoren, zonder afbreuk te doen aan culturele goederen, haar toekomstig onderzoek, wetenschappelijk onderzoek, behandeling of functie.

The conservation professional shall document examination, scientific investigation, and treatment by creating permanent records and reports.

De professionele conservator documenteert onderzoek, wetenschappelijk onderzoek en de behandeling door het creren van permanente dossiers en rapporten. VIII. The conservation professional shall recognize a responsibility for preventive conservation by endeavoring to limit damage or deterioration to cultural property, providing guidelines for continuing use and care, recommending appropriate environmental conditions for storage and exhibition, and encouraging proper procedures for handling, packing, and transport.

De professionele conservator erkent zijn verantwoordelijkheid voor de preventieve conservering door te proberen om schade of verslechtering van de culturele goederen te beperken. Deze geven ook richtlijnen voor de verdere conservering en het gebruik, aanbevelingen voor in de omgeving passende voorwaarden voor opslag en tentoonstelling en ze stimuleren de behandeling, verpakking en transport door middel van de juiste procedures. IX. The conservation professional shall act with honesty and respect in all professional relationships, seek to ensure the rights and opportunities of all individuals in the profession, and recognize the specialized knowledge of others.

De professionele conservator handelt met eerlijkheid en respect in alle professionele relaties, gericht om de rechten en kansen van alle personen in het beroep te waarborgen en de gespecialiseerde kennis van anderen te erkennen. X. The conservation professional shall contribute to the evolution and growth of the profession, a field of study that encompasses the liberal arts and the natural sciences. This contribution may be made by such means as continuing development of personal skills and knowledge, sharing of information and experience with colleagues, adding to the professions written body of knowledge, and providing and promoting educational opportunities in the field.

De professionele conservator draagt bij tot de evolutie en de groei van het beroep, een vakgebied dat de vrije kunsten en de natuurwetenschappen omvat. Deze bijdrage kan worden gemaakt met behulp van bijvoorbeeld de voortdurende ontwikkeling van persoonlijke vaardigheden en kennis, het delen van informatie en ervaringen met collega's, het toevoegen van het geheel van de schriftelijke kennis, de wijze en het bevorderen van educatieve mogelijkheden in het veld. XI. The conservation professional shall promote an awareness and understanding of conservation through open communication with allied professionals and the public.

The conservation professional shall practice in a manner that minimizes personal risks and hazards to co-workers, the public, and the environment.

De professionele conservator zal op een persoonlijke wijze handelen zodanig dat risico's en gevaren tot co-werknemers, het publiek, en het milieu geminimaliseerd worden. XIII. Each conservation professional has an obligation to promote understanding of and adherence to this Code of Ethics.
