Global Reporting Initiative:

A network based organization that produces a comprehensive sustainability reporting framework that is widely used globally. GRI is committed to the frameworks continuous improvement and application worldwide. Its core goals include mainstreaming of disclosure on environmental, social and governance performance. Sustainability reports based on the GRI framework can be used to demonstrate organizational commitment to sustainable development, to compare organizational performance over time, and to measure organizational performance with respect to laws, norms, standards and voluntary initiatives. It is one of the worlds most prevalent standards for sustainability reporting. A form of value reporting where an organization publicly communicates their economic, environmental and social performance. The reporting Framework sets out the principles and Performance Indicators that organizations can use to measure and report their economic, environmental and social performance. The cornerstone of the Framework is the Sustainabilty Reporting Guidelines: the G3 Guidelines 2006, now improved as the G3.1 Guidelines. It contains a comparison sheet and standard disclosure forms. The key qualities for external assurance of reports using the GRI Reporting Framework are that: y y y y y It is conducted by groups or individuals external to the organization who are demonstrably competent in both the subject matter and assurance practices. Implemented in a systematic, documented, evidence based process. Independent and impartial report Publicly available. Serves as a tool for engaging with stakeholders and securing useful input to organizational processes.

Sector Supplements: Sector supplements help to make sustainability reports more relevant and easier to produce. GRI Guidelines set out Reporting Principles and Performance Indicators for economic, environmental and social information. Sector Supplement for Apparel and Footwear: Reporting guidelines for the Apparel and Footwear industry. Addresses the distinctive reporting needs of apparel and footwear companies such as the supply chain standards and practices, material, energy, wages and hours of employees, labour and management relations, diversity and equal opportunity and community investments. MAS holdings was also a part of the Working Group that formulated it.
