In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

[And of mankind are some who say: We believe in Allah and the Last Day, when they
believe not. They think to beguile Allah and those who believe, and they beguile none
save themselves; but they perceive not. In their hearts is a disease, and Allah
increaseth their disease. A painful doom is theirs because they lie.]

Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala is still talking about the group about whom He mentions that
they are the believers and fear Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala together with their signs. Also
He mentions the second group who are disbelievers. And then He mentions the third
group. And He mentions the signs of the groups. The groups are the hypocrites. By

saying Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala is telling us clear signs of the

hypocrites – they deceive Allah and mouminin. They deceive Allah Subhana-
Wa-Ta’aala. Note Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala here in the verse says . This is the
present tense. It means that to deceive Allah is the chronic habit of hypocrites. Allah
Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala has given the description of the hypocrites. To deceive Allah and
His believers is the modus operandi of the hypocrites. And Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala is
still telling that what happened as opposed to the past tense. But Allah Subhana-Wa-
Ta’aala is not telling us some kind of specific group of the people who are doing these
actions. Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala is giving us the description of the hypocrites. Either
they came during the time of the prophet or after the prophet or before the advent of the
prophet. So that is why Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala says that they always
cheat and deceive Allah. It is the process of continuity of the hypocrites. That’s why

Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala put it in the form of present tense. That everywhere and in
every nook of the planet you may find the hypocrites with their visible signs. That they
always are trying to deceive Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala. Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala has
given logical emphasis - because the messenger of Allah is dealing with them directly. It
is supposed to be because the actions of the dealing is directly
towards the messenger of Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala. But Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala is
saying that they deceive Allah. Who are they? They (hypocrites) are dealing with the
messenger of Allah despite the fact they are deceiving the messenger of Allah. In point
of fact they are deceiving Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala. Because the messenger of Allah is
to represent Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala. And he is sent to us by Allah Subhana-Wa-
Ta’aala. So, any disgrace or misconduct that they do to the messenger of Allah is with
Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala prima facie. Because he is the messenger of Allah and he
was sent to us directly by Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala. And he is to enforce the laws of
Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala. If you do embezzlement to an ambassador, it is disgrace
directly to the government or to the organization where from that representative came.
So the prophet or the Imam or the messenger they are to represent Allah Subhana-Wa-
Ta’aala. So if something happens likewise with the messenger of Allah or the Imam is
cheat with Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala with no apparent difference. It is one and the
same thing. So that’s why Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala says that they deceive
Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala because they deceive the messenger of Allah. The
messenger of Allah is the representative of Allah. So exactly such people are deceiving
Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala. Because the messenger and Allah is the same thing. There
is no difference. The messenger says he is from Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala. So He says
as well as they deceive the believers. Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala said that
those people don’t realize that they are in fact deceiving themselves.

They do not deceive anyone but themselves. But they

are ignorant of their actions of what they are doing. How can a man deceive Allah
Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala? Actually they deceive themselves. They are actually deceiving
themselves. Why? Because Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala is aware of every single action
and move that a man does. Allah is aware of it. Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala knows each
and everything. But they are not aware of it. They are ignorant of the fact
that they acre actually deceiving themselves. They always come to tell the prophet and
say that they are the believers and they are with the prophet. They hypocritically say that
that are going to fight for the prophet. They are deceiving the messenger of Allah. They
are deceiving the believers.
Because one the things is that Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala knows that these things
what they said is not true and Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala told His messenger and told the
believers as well. They don’t know that the consequences of the evil double cross will
certainly come to the surface according to the law of requital. So, they are deceiving
themselves. Because there results are coming back to them. That’s why Allah Subhana-

Wa-Ta’aala said that they deceive no one but themselves. But

they are not aware of the fact that their every action, move, will be requited

for. And Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala continues saying

(in their hearts is the disease, and Allah increaseth their

disease. A painful doom is theirs because they lie). The first reason Allah Subhana-Wa-

Ta’aala mentions that that those people have sickness in their hearts.
Those people have sickness in their hearts. What kind of sickness Allah Subhana-Wa-
Ta’aala mentions? The hypocrisy is the sickness in their hearts. There are different types
of sicknesses. We have physical sicknesses that someone may get burn he is ill/sick. Or
pain in the body. There is another sickness which it entirely different. And that is worst
than the physical sickness. We the human being always pay attention to the physical
sickness, the material that we can see and feel (in tangible form). Today when a man
develops a problem in eye he goes to a doctor without waste of time. Or he feels pain in
the abdomen or the stomach or ear or in any part of the body. Naturally man tries to pay
a visit to a doctor forthwith. But there is some kind of other sickness that does have no
concern with the physical form. It is metaphysical. It is spiritual. Corporal sickness can
be cured and you can also die of it. When we expire, body sickness also expires. But the
spiritual sickness is entirely different in its nature and cure. Spiritual sickness may send
us towards the infernal fires of the hell. Spiritual sickness follows Adam until the Day of
Judgment for its requital. The same sickness may give us different stages of hell.
Unfortunately we forget that the spiritual sickness is forever if it did not cure it. And now

Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala says in their hearts. The holy Quran has mentioned
the importance of the heart. When the holy Quran says about the heart, one should
remember that it is the centre of everything. The holy Quran has mentioned that the heart
of the man is like a wheel that drives a man from one place to another place. And the
holy Quran always emphasizes that if a man is able to purify his heart then the entire
body will be fine. That if a man is not able to purify the heart then the entire body will be
the worst. So it is very important to cleanse the heart. It is the centre of emotions and
motives and intentions. So if the centre is clean then all other actions will also be clean
in functions. See what Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala in Surah Shams says about the heart

and its purification. I swear by the sun and its brightness.

I swear by the moon when it follows the sun. I swear by

the day when it brightens. I swear by the night when it covers the earth
with darkness. I swear by the heaven and that the power which
established them. I swear by the earth and the power that spread out.

And I swear by the soul and that power which designed it and made the
human body perfect. Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala has presented all these kinds of swears

in order to talk about the soul. He said , that those who

purify their souls would certainly have everlasting happiness. And

those who corrupted their souls will certainly be deprived of happiness. Here you can
imagine that how important is the soul and its clear form - free from any stain.
The messenger of Allah said that the heart is the house of Allah

Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala. That those like everybody to come and

establish in that house other than Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala. The heart we have is the
house of Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala. The heart is like soil. If we let a sapling of tender
and sacred thought grow, its fertile land will let it grow irrigating its root from the
dewdrops of spirituality. And on the contrary if we let a rough plant of fiendish thoughts
grow it will also grow but will be irrigated from the hellish waters. That Allah Subhana-
Wa-Ta’aala has bequeathed us a power either to grow good plant or to grow bad plant.

That’s why Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala is saying that that in their hearts

there is sickness. And then further said: and in return Allah Subhana-
Wa-Ta’aala increases their sickness. See the Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala created this
world with two paths. One path could be Siraat-ul-Mustaqeem the right
path of equilibrium. Allah says that He sent the prophet and the messenger and the holy
Imams by assigning them a job to guide the mankind. Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala not
only sent the messenger He also sent two messengers for every single person. One
messenger is the Aql. It is the intellect and that is the first thing Allah Subhana-Wa-
Ta’aala created. And there is one holy Hadith in this regard that Allah Subhana-Wa-

Ta’aala created the Aql - the intellect akbil . And then Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala
commanded the intellect saying that turn away, and it turned away . And then
Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala said I swear by my majesty

that I never created anything that I worked so much more

than you. And I will not make you complete unless I love.
Every messenger of Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala is giving every single human being the
intellect. And that will be questioned on the Day of Judgment. That how did you use
your intellect? Did you use it on the way of right path what was shown to us and you by
Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala? Or did you use it on the bad way? So this intellect is the
means by which we attain and gain the nearness of Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala. It was
the first messenger. And the second messengers are the prophet and the Imam that Allah
Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala. They were also sent to us to guide what is bad what is right.
Now it depends on us how to use the faculties for the perfection or for the corruption. The
bad way is the way of Satan. And the good way leads us to Rehman. The holy Quran

have said in this regard: Satan is really your enemy, indeed is your
enemy. do take him as enemy. He is your open enemy. When Allah
Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala directed him to prostrate before mankind/human being; he refused
to do that. The holy Quran said he is calling his party to come to him he is

working day and night in order to get his group that will go to hell with him. At the same
time the prophet and his intellect and Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala also calls His group
towards the heaven. If you take the right way there are prophets, His messengers and the
holy Imams to guide you, to save you from infernal fires of the hell. And if you take the
bad way also there is Satan with his group to mislead and misguide you.

He talks about the people of cave in Surat- ul- Khaf. He said

they were young men who believed in Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala and what did Allah
Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala do with them in return? We increased their guidance.
It was the reward for the believers who understood the message of Allah and practically
acted upon it. We have come know that there was no sickness in the hearts of the people
of cave. There was the light of Iman and of Providence.

Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala says He never

changes a nation unless the nation choses itself first. So it is vital that man should take its
first step. Otherwise there will be no support from Providence.
We have come to the point that our heart is the sole centre of the body. The core
of the heart is connected with the soul of the man. We should keep the heart clean of any
pollution, doubts or fiendish thoughts. Because what our heart will be – the same will be
our soul. The heart and soul leads a man towards to eternal blissful life and that is
paradise. The main aim of Adam is to live in paradise and to rebuild a lost paradise. We
should not proceed to the prohibited tree whose fruit has been declared the prohibited
one. It means that we should keep our destructive intentions in control and we should
always think to be constructive and protective for others. This is the aim of human life.
The aim of the human life is to avoid the shame of the satanic life.
So dear readers if you are from one of those whose hearts foster the destructive
designs; then be sure your hearts have been filled with the sickness of misguidance.
You are not serving the humanity. You are not serving the purpose of your birth. You
are deceiving Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala. And you are not aware of it. Beware of it.
And be careful of it.
You have holy Quran. You have life of Imams. Light is there to grab. So
enlighten your hearts without waste of any further moment.

How does Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala increases the sickness? Inshallah it would

be discussed in detail in the next lesson.
