Digital Story: Eating Local


Bridges site: Salmon Bay Middle School, Seattle, Washington, USA Produced by: Lily, Willa, Zac, Evelyn, Eli, Will, Kai, Rachel, Cyrus, Ana Overview Students encourage us to eat local, and discuss why is important and how it affects us. Purpose Eating local is healthy, good for you and good for your environment.
Anticipation Activity 1. Food from the Farmers Market is old and full of chemicals. 2. Fast food is not fresh and is unhealthy and greasy. 3. Eating local foods reduces your carbon footprint. 4. Organic food is always local. 5. Processed food can be organic. 6. In some countries, commercial use of the term organic is legally restricted, and to be certified organic, products must be grown and manufactured in a manner that adheres to standards set by the country they are sold in. 7. Follow-Up Activities Through online research and watching the digital story, define the following terms and discuss with your classmates: Organic food, natural food, local food, processed food, climate change, global warming. Shop locally and encourage your community to open a Farmers Market. Share the message of this story with someone else. Do a research on global warming.
