God Deserves the Glory

Arnold Palmer is known as one of golf's greatest players. Over the course of his fifty-five year career he has ninety-four professional wins, ten Champions Tour wins, and sixty-two PGA Tour wins. Throughout his phenomenal career, he ha s sho wn grea t s k ill, determination, and stamina, but he had to learn a lesson in humility during the 1961 Masters Tournament. Arnold describes the incident this way: and shook it, but as soon as I did, I knew I had lost my focus. On my next two shots, I hit the ball into a sand trap, then put it over the edge of the green. I missed a putt and lost the Masters. You don't forget a mistake like that; you just learn from it and become determined that you will never do that again. I haven't in the 30 years since."

Palmer allowed his pride and overconfidence to lose him the game. He lost focus by accepting "I had a one-stroke lead and had the praise of a friend. just hit a very satisfying tee shot. I felt I was in pretty good shape. As I Arnold isn't the only one who has approached my ball, I saw an old ever allowed pride to get in their friend standing at the edge of the way. How many people live with gallery. He motioned me over, pride each day, allowing their ego stuck out his hand and said, to control their actions? 'Congratulations.' I took his hand

Your relationship to Jesus Christ is central to the answer to that question.

We are, by nature, sinners who stand guilty and condemned before our Creator and Judge. In our thoughts and actions, we have disobeyed His perfect standards. We are sinners (Romans 3:10, 23). We are helpless to save ourselves. Forgiveness is a gift to be received, not a reward that can be earned. We need a Saviour (Ephesians 2:8-9). Because of His love for us, God provided salvation through His Son, Jesus. He became a member of the human family, lived without sin, and died on the cross to pay for our sins. Jesus is the Saviour (Romans 5:8; John 3:16). Salvation is an individual matter and requires a personal response on the part of anyone that wants to be saved. All who acknowledge their sin and place their trust in Christ are adopted as Gods children (Romans 10:9, 13).
