INSULATION RESISTANCE TESTERS

Megger is the originator of insulation resistance testing. The first instrument to perform such testing was introduced over 100 years ago. Today, Megger continues to be the leader in the field of insulation resistance testing with a line of innovative, high quality 1-kV, 5-kV and 10-kV insulation testers.

1-kV
NEW Megger MIT200 Series
Economical, rugged, easy to use The MIT200 is one of the smallest insulation testers available on the market today. With four product options available, all the MIT200 instruments offer a range of safety and operation features expected from a Megger tester. The combined analog pointer and digital readout provide both accuracy and charge/discharge characteristics. Auto continuity testing removes the need for a third hand. Replacing the BM120 and BM220 range, the new instruments use the same small case, but now up-rated to CAT III 600 V. Voltage warning and display, plus voltage lockout protect both the user and the instrument, if accidentally connected to a live circuit. All instruments meet a wide range of international testing standards as well as BSEN 61557 and IEC61010.

What is the IEEE 43-2000? In March 2000, the IEEE-SA Standards Board approved a revision of IEEE Std 43-1974 by the Electric Machinery Committee of the IEEE Power Engineering Society. This revision is IEEE Std 43-2000, the IEEE Recommended Practice for Testing Insulation Resistance of Rotating Machinery. Following is a brief summary of the highlights of IEEE Standard 43-2000:
I

Cat. No. MIT1020 10-kV Insulation Tester

Test voltages up to 10 kV are recommended for windings rated greater than 12 kV. Both the insulation resistance and the polarization index test are recommended. Test results should be compared to historical values to identify changes. In lieu of historical records, minimum acceptable values (based on the type of equipment) for both tests are indicated. Depending on the machine rating, the readings for one or both tests should exceed the minimum acceptable values. If the readings are below the minimum acceptable values, the winding is not recommended for an over-voltage test or for operation.

Ground testing using the ART method is more convenient and reduces testing time.
The new Model DET3TC employs a special current clamp and built-in microprocessor to measure and calculate the ground resistance (strictly in accordance with Fall of Potential and supported by IEEE Standard 81), without disconnected the utility connection. A nagging problem with traditional ground testing has been the requirement to disconnect the utility ground. Using the ART (Attached Rod Technique) method you can reliably measure a grounding electrode while still connected. This method enables local grounds to be tested without lifting the utility connection yet with the ease, reliability and confidence of a separate commissioning test. How Does It Work? The ART method solves the problem by utilizing the following technique. A current clamp is connected below the point of separation of the parallel test currents. It then measures only the current flowing through the test ground, not that going back through the utility. This current value is then used by the built-in microprocessor in the instrument to calculate ground resistance, strictly in accordance with Fall of Potential and supported by IEEE Standard 81. Thats why using the new ART ground testing method is much more convenient and significantly reduces your testing time by as much as 40%! For complete details view our ART Testing Application Guide at www.megger.com/det.
Using ART method with the DET3TC to test commercial ground without disconnecting the system

Clamp-ons
Megger DET10C and 20C
Measure ground resistance and current flow using clamp-on technology The Megger models DET10C and 20C are a useful addition to the more traditional methods of earth/ground resistance testing that may require disconnection and the use of stakes or ground rods. Simply clamp around the conductor or stake/rod and measure the resistance to ground quickly and accurately. The DET10C and 20C can be used to measure earth/ground resistance in multiple loop installations without disconnecting the earth or ground, allowing quick and easy testing in total safety. These clamp-on testers feature improved ground resistance ranges from 0.025 m to 1550 m and ground leakage current from 0.2 mA to 35 A. The units are rugged, compact and have configurable audible alarms. They feature auto shutdown (which is also configurable), data storage and self calibration on power-up, and are supplied with a calibration loop all contained in a rugged carry case. The DET20C also comes with a RS232 interface cable and is compatible with Megger Download Manager Software (included) allowing further analysis and storage of data.

DIGITAL LOW RESISTANCE OHMMETERS

The Megger range of DLROs has defined the standard for lowresistance measurements for decades. These instruments are used for a multitude of applications that require precise low-resistance measurements such as measuring contact resistance of switch and circuit breakers, battery intercell connectors, rail and pipeline bonds, and aircraft frame bonds.

Megger DLRO-10 and DLRO-10X

Portable, easy to use, improved resolution The DLRO-10 and DLRO-10X incorporate state-of-the-art microprocessor technology and can be used in tight places which reduces the need for extra long leads and two-person operation. The DLRO-10 displays the average of measurements achieved using forward and reverse current, while the DLRO-10X displays both individual measurements and the average. For more control over the measurement process, the DLRO-10X uses a menu system controlled by a two-axis paddle to allow the user to manually select the test current. The unit also adds real-time download of results and on-board storage for later download to a PC. Both instruments are built into a strong, lightweight case that is equally at home in the field or in the laboratory. Light enough to be worn around the neck, they are small enough to be taken into areas which were previously too small to access. DLRO 10 uses a large, bright 412-digit LED display while DLRO 10X has a large, backlit LCD.

General Purpose DLROs

Ideal for production quality control Three models designed for general purpose testing applications. All units in this family feature digital readout, offer a resolution to 1 or better, and have a basic accuracy of 0.25%. A range of lead sets and options are available to meet varying customer needs and testing requirements. Dual-Pak DLRO (Cat. No. 247000) I Separate measuring and charging modules
