Year 2 Aims for 2011 Term 1

Knowledge The environment Recycling in our school Persuasive texts Measurement The Lord s Prayer, The Sacraments, Easter Mental maths strategies Test conditions Water Times tables (2x) Skills Using dictionaries as a classroom tool Using their diaries as an organisational tool Using the class book list to organise their table each morning Correctly using their rulers to rule up their workbooks Attitudes Students will set goals including behavioural, academic and social. Students will grasp the school values and class rules and use these within the classroom. Students will start to make choices regarding their behaviour, and begin to evaluate their behaviour in different situations. Knowledge Animals/ Dinosaurs Information report texts Mental maths strategies Times tables (3x) Five senses Symmetry Tessellations Skills Students will be able to assess their own work using correct methods taught in class. Students will be able to write for a targeted audience Students will continue to build up a repertoire of strategies for mathematical computations. Attitudes Students will be completing each piece of set work, whether that be during the allocated classroom time; for extra homework; or in their own time in the classroom. Students will become responsible of completing their work in their own time.

Knowledge Australia and Aboriginal studies Patterns (colour and number) Narrative texts Mental maths strategies Space Times tables (5x) (10x) Aboriginal dot painting/ symbols Skills Students will use proper grammar in their everyday writing. Students will learn to draft and edit their own work. Students will find quick ways to help with mental computations Attitudes Bookwork will improve over the course of term 2. Neater work and setting out is expected. Student behaviour will improve as students will settle into our classroom rules and expectations. They will also have determined the choices which mould their behaviour and will learn to stop any behaviour before it escalates.

Knowledge Heroes Directional language Cooking Procedure texts Times tables (4x) Chemistry (chemical reactions) The meaning of Christmas Blind sports games Skills Students will be able to reflect on their own actions and values throughout the year and evaluate these to better their future educational, social and behavioural practices. Attitudes Students will have worked towards a year 3 level, ready to be moved into the next grade of school. They will have evaluated their goals and assessed their learning during the course of the year.

Using their diaries as an organisational tool Confidently work in test conditions (leading up to the NAPLAN test) Students will be able to autonomously organise themselves each morning. Attitudes Students will set goals including behavioural, academic and social. Students will grasp the school values and class rules and use these within the classroom. Students will start to make choices regarding their behaviour, and begin to evaluate their behaviour in different situations.
