Fire Kills. That is a sad fact of which we are all aware, but also fire costs money, and at times these cost can be considerable. The incident at the Arabian Ranches EMAAR stores already happened several times but fortunately they were not big. Main Hazards The main hazards found in the store are: Combustible Materials Fire often starts to spread by combustible materials. In the store, flammable liquids like containers of paints, petrol in bottles, gases ignite more readily than others and quickly produce large quantities of heat or sense toxic smoke.

Ideally such materials should be stored away from the workplace or in fire resisting stores. Unfortunately in the store there is not such equipment and devices present to prevent from fire or reduce the risk.

SAFETY DEPARTMENT Electrical Panels and circuits Heat from electrical circuits could also be a major cause of fire. Presence of Distribution panel makes the area at higher risk.

Storage of materials Improperly Materials are not properly stored. Gas Cylinders are lying on floor. Flammable liquids (Petrol) found in the bottles. Hazardous and flammable materials are not segregated.

Poor Housekeeping There is no good standard of housekeeping. Location, Persons & Assets that are at significant risk Fire is a dynamic event if it will spread throughout the workplace all people present will eventually be at risk. Therefore reasonably practicable fire fighting equipments should be provided. Consequences Loss of business and jobs, building damage, environmental damage.

How the risks could be minimized? / Recommendations Matters that have to be considered are The amount of combustible materials should be kept as low as reasonably practicable or the minimum required for the operation of the business. Materials should not be kept in gangways corridor. Good standard of housekeeping should be maintained. Ensure flammable liquids and gases are handled transported, stored and used properly. Storing in flammable substances in fire resisting stores Dont incorrectly stored flammable waste Means for detecting and giving warning in case of fire It is therefore recommended to install the system of prevention of fire spread in workplace in case of fire. These include. Fire alarms. Automatic fire detection (AFD). Smoke detectors. Automatic sprinkler system.
