Relatives and Friends

Who eed Our Prayers
Please pray especially for the following people who have recently been added to our prayer list: Marian Coleman, Pam Stewart, Julia Redling, Anthony Gheselli, Maryann Hughes, Tom Hoban, Richard Collier, Michael Calitri, Raymond Prendeville, Prudence Waldmann, Frances Larsen, Thomas Mahala, William Mahoney, Richard Edge and four special intentions. Let us also pray for the men and women who are serving in our military in particular those who are from our parish: PFC. Joseph Robert Pecca - Korea, 2LT. Kyle R. Lee, Army - Iraq 2LT. Charlie Law, Army - Iraq, CPL. Gerald Squirlock Jr., Army Afghanistan, Lance CPL. COL Paul J. McAneny - Kuwait, Christopher Sodano, Marines - Afghanistan Also, please remember our dearly departed relatives and friends who have passed away recently especially Patrick Anthony Savino May they rest in peace. Please remember that there is a special intention book located in the Baptistery of the church. Your intention can be written in it and prayed for during the Masses that are said at Our Lady of Peace.

Over the years, the issue of proper attire for church attendance surfaces during the summer months. In many of our parishes, there are people who forget the reverence and respect that must be upheld when we enter the house of God. Attire that may be appropriate for recreational and social events is simply not appropriate for church. Please observe modesty and good judgment in your choice of clothing when attending Mass or other church services. Dresses, skirts, and dress shorts should be near the knee. Tight fitting clothing, tank tops, and muscle shirts are examples of improper clothing in church.

We are Looking for Sandwiches Please Help!

On July 19th, we will deliver sandwiches made at home by Our Lady of Peace parishioners to St. Josephs Social Service Center. The sandwiches will be used in various community outreach programs. Here is how you can help: Buy a loaf of any kind of bread. Turn the loaf of bread into sandwiches by using your choice of sandwich fillings (e.g., any type of cold cuts, peanut butter & jelly, etc. You can put a little mustard or butter on the bread but no mayo, please!). Put each sandwich into a baggie. Return the wrapped sandwiches to the loaf wrapper and close it up. Tape a piece of paper to the loaf wrapper telling the kind of sandwiches you have made Bring the sandwiches to Our Lady of Peace on the Tuesday morning: From 7:00 am to 8:45 am, sandwiches can be left in the vestibule of the church on the side closest to the Rectory. From 9:00 am to 9:30 am, sandwiches should be brought to the lobby of the Parish Hall. At 9:30 am, we leave to deliver sandwiches to St. Josephs! Thank you

Summer Camp Supper Ministry

Once again the Summer Camp Supper Ministry in conjunction with the Missionaries of Charity in Newark is approaching. Parishioners from OLP and St. Teresas in Summit have been asked to prepare supper for 80 children each Tuesday in July and early August. Our teams are assembling and you are invited to participate in the endeavor. Help is needed in a variety of ways from preparing a dish for twenty and/or delivering and serving the children at 5:00 p.m. at St. Augustine Church, Newark. Volunteers and their families enjoy this annual opportunity to serve those less fortunate than us. Financial contributions are also welcome. Please contact Andrea Kull at 908-273-4749 or at mirakull@verizon.net to support this program. Thank you.

presents

The Holy Mass 101

When: Time: Place: July 11th, 13th, and 14th 7:00 9:00 pm OLP Parish Hall

A required course for everyone majoring in Roman Catholicism

The Holy Mass 101 is a lecture series intended for all parishioners, confirmation age and older. It will be offered for the first time this July and then repeated several times both during the day and in the evening beginning in October. The format of the course is DVD lectures followed by a brief group discussion.

No Fee, No Registration, No Bother just come!

Q. A. I attend Mass regularly. Why should I bother attending this program? Why bother watching your TV in color when black and white will do? Not all participation in Mass is the same. Frankly, participation at Mass ranges from the intense to the unconscious. This course is designed to enhance and improve your worship at Mass. I already get a lot out of Mass. Knowledge informs the mind and opens the heart. What you learn about the Mass will allow you to bring greater devotion and reverence to your worship of God through the liturgy of the Mass. And the more we give of ourselves in worship, the more is given back to us. Greater knowledge and understanding is always a good thing. What basic material is covered by the course? The course explains the changes in translation that begin on November 27th. It also identifies and examines every part of the Mass and traces its origins back to Scripture, and/or early Christian or Jewish worship practices. You will be amazed at what you do not know!

Q. A.

Q. A.

The Bishops of the United States desire that the implementation of the new English translation of the Mass may be an occasion for all Catholics to acquire a greater appreciation for and understanding of the liturgical worship of God in the Mass. It is the hope of Fr. Bill and the other priests at Our Lady of Peace that all parishioners find the time to take this adult education course that will be offered at various times beginning this summer.
