Prepositional Phrases
Knowing how to identify prepositional phrases can be very helpful for your writing. A prepositional phrase is a preposition and its object. e.g. Joe went to the beach with his wife for an hour before lunch at Subway. Once you start to recognize prepositional phrases as units, it frees you up to move them around to achieve better clarity. It is widely believed that the normal rule of ordering for prepositional phrases is semantic: Manner before Place before Time. e.g. John ate noisily in the kitchen at noon.

COMPRISE Vs. COMPOSE
To comprise means to contain e.g. e advisory board comprises six members. When you use comprise, youre talking about all the parts that make up something. To "compose" means "to make up" as in Many ethnic groups compose our nation. If you wanted to start the sentence with the words our nation, guess which verb youd have to use instead? Our friend comprise: Our nation comprises many ethnic groups. So, the parts compose the whole, but the whole comprises the parts. Is Comprised Of and Is Composed Of One of these is allowed, and one is not. e one you can say is is composed of, so you could say, Our nation is composed of many ethnic groups.
