Hajj

Hajj means a specific journey to Makkah during the designated month of Dhul-Hijjah, for the performance of Hajj as an act of worship to Allah.

Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam:

The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: Islam is built upon five (pillars): testifying that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) is the Messenger of Allah, establishing regular prayer, paying Zakaat, Hajj and fasting Ramadan. [Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim]

The Obligation of Hajj

Hajj is obligatory on every Muslim only once during his or her lifetime, provided that he or she is able to perform it. The order comes from Allaah in the ayah:

Hajj (Pilgrimage) to the House (the Ka'bah) is an obligation that humanity owes to Allaah, for those who can find a way (i.e. for those who can find the means to do it). And whoever disbelieves (i.e. denies the Hajj), then Allaah is beyond any need of all that exists (from His creation). [Surah Al- Imraan: 3:97]

"Complete (perform properly) the Hajj and Umrah for Allaah..." [Surah Al-Baqarah: 196] From these previous ayaat we can conclude that Hajj is obligatory on every Muslim once in a lifetime who has the (physical, financial, and circumstantial) ability to to do it. Whoever performs it more than once, then these extra Hajj are considered voluntary (naafil).

Hastening for performing Hajj

Hajj must be performed as soon as one is (physically and financially) in a position to do so. Delaying it for no genuine reason is not good. Since the person does not know whether he will be able to perform it at a later time or not, or whether he will remain alive to perform it or the death will overtake him suddenly. Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: Hurry to perform Hajj, as none of you knows what may happen to him. Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: The one who intends to perform Hajj, should hasten, as he might get sick or loose his conveyance or get afflicted with something that stops him from doing Hajj.'' (Reported by Ahmad)

Excellence of Hajj

The Prophet (pbuh) said: "(The performance of) Umrah is an expiation for the sins committed between it and the previous Umrah; and the reward of Hajj Mabrur (i.e., one accepted) is nothing but Jannah.' [Bukhari and Muslim]. Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Whoever performs hajj to this Kaaba and does not approach his wife for sexual relations nor commit sins (while performing hajj), he will come out as sinless as a new-born child, (just delivered by his mother)."[Bukhari and Muslim]

Excellence of Hajj

Narrated Aisha: (That she said), "O Messenger of Allah! We consider jihad as the best deed. Should we not fight in Allah's Cause?" He said, "For you (women) the best jihad: Hajj Mabrur. [Bukhari] Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: There is no day when Allah sets free more servants from Hell than the Day of Arafah. He draws near, then praises them to the angels, saying: What do these seek? [Muslim].

Hajj should be performed with the intention of seeking Allah's pleasure only and not to show off. Hajj to be performed in accordance with the Sunnah of the Prophet (pbuh).

Prerequisites of Hajj:
The following conditions must be met to be able to perform Hajj: To be a Muslim. To be an adult. To be in a sound state of mind. To be a free man/woman. To be able to afford the Hajj Expenses. To be healthy and capable of performing Hajj. Journey route should be safe and secure. There should be no obstacles from your government for performing Hajj. Women should be with a Mehram Women should not be in their iddat.

Anyone lacking any of these conditions is not obligated to perform Hajj.

Preparation for Hajj

Purify your creed (Aqeedah) from all aspects of Shirk, major or minor. No deed is accepted to Allah however noble it is, without such purification: "If you associate (with Allah), your deeds will be ruined and verily you will be among the losers." [Soorah (39): 65] Devote your Hajj purely and sincerely for Allah. and exclusively keeping in view the heavenly reward. Do not allow any worldly honour and vanity or any financial advantages or any worldly selfish design to mix up with your intention for Hajj.

Repentance from all past sins

There are three prerequisites for a sincere penitence :Repentence and regret for the sins committed in the past For the present, to give up all the sins. For future, to resolve not to commit any sins. These are the three requisites of a sincere penitence without which mere uttering the words of penitence will not be sufficient. Make sure the wealth to be used for Hajj is from Halal sources "Allah is pure and He does not accept but pure only." [Saheeh Muslim]

Accompany the knowledgeable and righteous Muslims and stay away from the innovators.

Safeguard your tongue from all vain talk, backbiting, arguing and complaining.

Write your will Pay/record all debts Acquire thorough knowledge about the rites of Hajj and Umrah based on Quran and authentic Sunnah. Such an important duty that involves great efforts and huge expenses should never be based on hearsay or shallow knowledge, as knowledge differentiates right from wrong.

It is a Sunnah for the pilgrim to say farewell to his family, relatives and friends before he sets off on his journey. Before departure, it is advisable for the pilgrim to pray two rak'ahs nafl prayer. When the pilgrim leaves home he says: Dua for travelling

Arrive in Jeddah
You will have assumed Ihraam before arriving at Jeddah if Makkah is your destination. First you go through the Customs, and then wait for a bus (of the Hajj Ministry Transportation Service) to take you to Makkah. Do not lose sight of your luggage. Perform your salat on time and with the Jama'ah. Jeddah will be a first test for your patience. The wait time in the Hajj Terminal can be 2 to 12 hours or even more. Show patience and be nice to the Staff. Most of them are volunteers working very long hours.

Mawaqeet

Mawaqeet is the plural of Meeqat: the geographical boundary that a person intending Hajj or Umrah may not cross without assuming Ihraam for Hajj or Umrah, or both.

A Muslim intending Hajj or `Umrah who crosses the Meeqat without Ihraam must return to the Meeqat and make Ihraam from there. If he/she does not return and make Ihraam from the Meeqat, then he/she must offer a sacrifice (Hady).

Narrated Ibn Abbas: Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) made Dhu-l Hulayfa as the Meeqat for the people of Madinah; Al-Juhfa for the people of Sham; Qarn al-Manazil for the people of Najd; and Yalamlam for the people of Yemen; and these Mawaqeet are for the people at those very places, and besides them for those who come through those places with the intention of performing Hajj and 'Umrah; and whoever is living within these boundaries can assume lhram from the place he starts, and the people of Makkah can assume Ihraam from Makkah. [Bukhari & Muslim]

Mawaqit Are Five:

Zulhulaifa. For the persons arriving from the side of Madina. The place is known as Bir-e-Ali nowadays. Juhfa. For the pilgrims arriving from the side of Syria. It is near 'Rabigh', the well known 'Manzil' (station) on the road way of 'Madina'. Qarn-ul-Manazil. For those coming from 'Najd'. Yalamlam. For the persons arriving from the direction of 'Yemen'. It is a hill situated at a distance of about 15 to 20 miles
from seashore. It is in fact a Miqat for the people of Yemen and Aden. In early times when there was no port at Jeddah, the Hajj pilgrims arriving through the sea passage from India, Pakistan and other eastern countries had to adopt this route. That is why this is generally understood to be the Miqat for the people of Pakistan and India as well.

Dhatu-Irq. For the persons coming from the side of Iraq.

The persons traveling on a route not passing through these places will have to wear 'Ihram' for their entrance in Mecca on the points which may confront any of these places. This Ihram wearing will, however, be before entering into these confronting points. These 'Mawaqit' have been fixed for all those who live anywhere in the world outside the precincts of Miqat. The whole world outside the precincts of Miqat is termed to be as Afaq and its inhabiltants are known by the term of Afaqi.

Restrictions while in the Haram of Makkah

Its plants must not be cut, Its game must not be frightened, Articles lost in it must not be picked up except by someone making announcement to find the owner, Nor is any man to bear arms for fighting in it. Note: the above is part of a Hadith of the Prophet (pbuh) These restrictions also apply to the haram of Madinah. They apply to everyone whether in a state of Ihraam or not, during any time of the year.

Types of Hajj
There are three types of Hajj: Hajj-e-Tamattu' Hajj-e-Qiran Hajj-e-Ifraad
1.

2.

3.

The one who performs: TAMATTU is called a MUTAMATTI'. QIRAAN is called a QAARIN. IFRAAD is called a MUFRID.

Types of Hajj
Tamattu Umra then Hajj during the months of Hajj. Requires Hady (sacrificial animal)

'Umra

Hajj

Qiran Umra and Hajj during the months of Hajj Requires Hady Ifrad Hajj during the months of Hajj Does not require Hady

'Umra Hajj

Hajj

The best of the three forms is Tamattu'. It is the form that the Prophet-may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him encouraged his followers to perform. The Prophet (pbuh) asked his companions to do Tamattu, even though he did Qiran because he brought the hady (animal for sacrifice) with him.

Who can do Hajj al-Tamattu

People
Who have time and can afford to perform Umrah and Hajj They normally do not take along with them the animal of sacrifice They are not residents of makkah

Who can do Hajj al-Qiran

People
Who can afford & intend to perform Umrah & Hajj Who take along with them the animal of sacrifice

Who can do Hajj al Ifrad

People
Who want to perform Hajj only Due to time constraint Normally adopted by residents of Makkah

(combining Umrah and Hajj with a break in between)

In this Hajj, Ihram is first worn at Meeqat with the intention of Umrah only during the months of Hajj, which means when a pilgrim reaches Makkah, he/she performs Tawaf and Sa'y for Umrah and shaves his head or cuts his hair. When he finishes Umrah he is released from Ihram. The pilgrim following Tamattu' is so called because during the period between Umrah and Hajj, he is allowed to enjoy what is normally forbidden due to Ihram, such as wearing normal clothes, perfume, contact with wife Then On the day of Tarwiya, which is the eighth of Dhul-Hijja, Ihram is again worn from Makkah with the intention of Hajj and carries out all of its requirements. So Tamattu involves a complete Umrah and a complete Hajj. After fulfilling the Hajj rituals, one should offer a sacrificial animal.

Hajj-e-Tamattu

(combination of Umrah and Hajj - intention at the same time)

Qiran means to combine Hajj and 'Umrah. This means that the pilgrim should declare the intention to perform both Hajj and `Umrah together from the Miqat with that same Ihraam, completes the rituals of Umrah, but he will not get his hair shaved or trimmed after umrah and will remain in the state of Ihram till after he stones the Jamrah of Al-`Aqabah on the day of Eid. Then he shaves or cut his hair and slaughter a Hady.

Hajj-e-Qiran

The pilgrim is supposed to bring his sacrificial animal with him as the Prophet (S) did. This must be done because the rituals of Hajj and `Umrah were joined together.

Hajj-e-Ifraad
(Hajj Only)

A pilgrim wear the Ihraam at Miqat and makes the intention of performing Hajj only. He does

ot combine Umrah with Hajj. He remains in a state of Ihraam until he throws the pebbles, have

is head shaved or hair clipped. He is not obliged to sacrifice an animal.

When he reaches Makkah, he performs Tawaf for his arrival, after performing The Arrival

awaf, he may perform Say and his Sa'y is considered the Sa'y of Hajj. He doesn't shave or cut

is hair as he doesn't disengage from Ihram. Instead, he remains in Ihram till he stones Jamrah

Al-Aqaba on the day of Eid. In this case, there is no need to go for Sa'y after performing Tawaf

Al-Ifadah.

t is also permissible to postpone the Say until after performing Tawaf al-Ifadah (Hajj Tawaf).

n any case you should be in Ihram until the day of Eid.

Hajj-e-Ifrad is the only kind of Hajj allowed for the residents of Makkah and those who reside

etween Miqaat and the precincts of Haraam for example Jeddah.

Hady (sacrificial animal)

Allah says: Whoever performs 'Umrah in the months of Hajj, before (performing) the Hajj, (i.e. Hajj-at-Tamattu' and Al-Qirn), he must slaughter a Hady such as he can afford, but if he cannot afford it, he should observe Saum (fasts) three days during the Hajj and seven days after his return (to his home), making ten days in all. This is for those whose family is not in the area of al-Masjid al-Haram.(2:196) Pilgrims who offer either Qiran or Tamattu' Hajj must offer a sheep (sacrificial animal) as thanks to Allah who helped them offer both 'Umrah and Hajj during the period of Hajj in the same trip to the Holy lands. But if he couldn't afford a sacrificial animal, the pilgrim has to fast for three days during the Hajj and seven days when he returns home

Hajj-e-Tamattu'

we shall talk about Hajj At-Tamattu as it is the most recommend

Umrah

Ihraam Tawaf Say between as-Safa and al-Marwa Halq (shaving the head) or Taqseer (trimming the hair)

Ihraam
Clip nails; remove pubic and armpit hair. Ghusl should be performed before wearing dress of Ihram and fragrance can be applied as well. Ihram should be worn at or before you reach your Meqaat boundry.

He may put on the clothing of iHraam before the meeqat even in his own house as the Prophet and his Companions did. And this makes it easier for those making Hajj by aeroplane for whom it is not possible to put on iHraam at the meeqat - so it is permissible for them to embark on the plane in iHraam, but they do not make the intention of iHraam until very shortly before the meeqat - in order that they do not go past the meeqat without iHraam.

Dress For Men: Consists of two white sheets an izar (what covers the lower part of the body) and a rida (what covers the upper part of the body) (without either being sewn or felted to fit the body, it is like a huge towel or shawl.)

Wrap the larger of the two portions of the Ihram around your waist to cover your body from just above the navel to about the ankles. Secure the Ihram with a belt. Drape the other part of the Ihram over the back and the shoulders. Both the shoulders should be covered while the head and ankles should be uncovered. Do not cover your head even for salat while in a state of Ihram. You may use perfume before changing into Ihram, but be sure not to apply it directly to your Ihram.

Dress for Women: Women should observe the sharia laws of Hijab. Women should not wear gloves or cover their faces in Ihram.

There is no special prayer for Ihraam, however if it is time for prayer before Ihraam, then he should pray and then put on iHraam following the example of the Rasoolullah who put on iHraam after prying zuhr. And there is no objection, if anybody performs it if he makes ablution (Wudu) and offers two Raka'at prayer as Sunnah of Wudu, it is sufficient for the Ihram. Note: Up to this point, all what you did is preparation for Ihraam. Make the intention and say:

LabbaikAllahumma bi-`umrah Here I am O Allah, making Umrah.

From this point you are in a state of Ihraam!

After intention is made, recite Talbiyah aloud:

(click to listen to Talbiyah)

laa shareeka laka labbaik, innal Labbaik Allaahumma labbaik, labbaika

hamda wan ni'mata laka wal mulk, laa shareeka lak Here I am O Allah, here I am, there is no partner for You, here I am, Verily all praise is for You, and every bounty is from You, and all dominion is Yours - You have no partner

If someone is unable to continue his Hajj or Umrah for any reason whatsoever, then it is obligatory on him to sacrifice a hadee before coming out of Ihraam at that point, without completing the remainder of the rites. (as mentioned in Surah Baqara 2:196)

Talbiyah should be continued until you see the Kabah if you are doing only Umrah (or until the Ramy of the largest Jamrah in the case of Hajj). Make talbiyah especially: while descending or ascending during travel, joining a party of people, after every Salah, and in the morning and evening

Talbiyah should be made in a loud voice

And the one saying the talbiyyah is ORDERED to raise his voice with it, as the Prophet (pbuh) said: Jibreel came to me and asked me to tell my companions to raise their voices with Ihlal (i.e. Talbiyah). [Ahmed and Tirmidhi] And he said: "the best Hajj is shouting out.. Therefore the companions of the Prophet when they entered into iHraam, by the time they reached `ar-Rauhaa' their voices had tired out. Making Taliyah in a low voice is against the Sunnah of the Prophet (pbuh). It should be recited aloud. Repeating the Talbiyah after a "guide" is also against the Sunnah. The Companions of the Prophet (pbuh) used to recite it individually.

The majority of scholars say that a woman should make Talbiyah in a low voice.

Ihraam for Women

It is equally a Sunnah for a woman to take shower before Ihraam. A woman in her Hayd (menstruation) or Nifaas (baby delivery) takes a shower and assumes Ihraam, but does not pray. Narrated Jabir: 'Aisha accompanied him (i.e. the Prophet pbuh) to Makkah while she got her menses. The Prophet (pbuh) commanded her to perform all the Manasik except Tawaf and Salat until she gets clean [Bukhari] Asm b. `Umays was in her post-natal bleeding while she was in Dhul Hulayfah and continued her Hajj.

If the menses begins before she enters the state of ihrm, the woman can enter into the state of ihrm and she may perform sa`, go to `Arafah, and engage in all the other rites except tawf.

When the womans menstrual period is over, she can make up the tawf that she had missed. If the womans menses begins during the Hajj after she has performed tawf al-ifdah, then the matter is simple. She may complete her Hajj as usual and she will be exempted from having to perform tawf al-wid` (the farewell tawf).

Take bath (ghusl) before entering Majid-e-Haraam, if possible.

Abdullah (b. 'Umar) reported that whenever Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) entered Mecca, he got down at Dhi Tuwa and spend the night there until he observed the dawn prayer. Nafi' reported that Ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with them) did not enter Mecca without spending the night at Dhi Tawu until it was dawn, when he took a bath, and then entered Mecca in the morning, and made a mention that Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) did that.

It is recommended to enter through Bab-As- Salaam (the gate of peace) When you enter the masjid enter with your right foot first, and say:

Bismillaah wassaalatu wassalaamu ala Rasoolillaah. Allaahummaf-tah lee abwaaba rahmatik (I begin with the name of Allah and Peace and Blessing be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah! Open for me the gates of your

When you see the Ka'bah raise your hands and make dua if you want to - as it is established from Ibn `Abbas. And there is no du'a established from the Prophet at this point. So you may make du'a with whatever you wish.

Dua established from `Umar (raa):

Allaahumma anta-s salaam wa minka-s salaam fa Hayyinaa rabbanaa bi-s salaam

Tahiyyatul-Masjid

It is highly recommended that when entering any Masjid then 2 rakaat Salaat be offered with the "Niyyat of Tahiyyatul-Masjid(The Prayer of Salutation to the Mosque) but the prayer of salutation to the Haraam mosque is to perform the Tawaaf (circumambulation around the Ka'bah) for a person who is entering Makkah, whether he is in a state of Ihraam, or for any other purpose as 'Aa'ishah said: ''When the Prophet

came to Makkah, he

performed ablution and then performed the Tawaaf around the sacred House [Ka'bah].'' The two Rak'ahs that one performs after the Tawaaf are
sufficient instead of the two Rak'ahs of salutation to the mosque.

However, if a person enters the Haram mosque for other purposes than performing the Tawaaf, like for reciting the Quran, or seeking knowledge, or performing the obligatory prayer, then he should perform the two Rak'ahs of salutation to the mosque like any other mosque, for the general meaning of the saying of the Prophet said: If one of you

were to enter a mosque, he should not sit until he performs two Rak'ahs.

The Black Stone

Excellence in touching the Black Stone

Prophet (pbuh) said: "Allah will raise up the Stone on the Day of Resurrection, and it will have two eyes with which it will see, and a tongue which it talks with, and it will witness in favor of everyone who touched it in truth."[Ahmad]

And said: "Touching the Black Stone and the Yemeni

You do not have to say your intention out loud to begin Tawaf. Saying intentions out loud is something the Prophet (pbuh) never did except after Ihraam when he said, Labbayk Allahuma Umrah wa Hajj. Wudu is necessary for performing Tawaf. A menstruating woman does not make Tawaf until she becomes clean. Before starting the tawaf, stop reciting the Talbiyah Women should observe the sharia laws of hijab

Idhtiba
Men should observe Idhtiba, during all seven rounds. Idhtiba means: Wearing the upper cloth in such a way that the left shoulder, left arm and back are covered and the right shoulder and arm remains uncovered. Discontinue with the idtibaa after the Tawaaf has been completed.

Tawaaf consists of seven rounds. Each round begins from Hajr-e-aswad (black stone) and ends at it. The proper way for performing each round is that one should first face the Hajr-e-aswad(black stone) and kiss it if possible. However, in doing so, he should not harm anyone or cause any inconvenience to others. If your are not able to kiss it then touch it with your right hand then kiss your hand. If you cannot touch it you should make a gesture (indication) towards it with your hand and proceed, but do not kiss your hand.

After kissing or touching or making gesture one should initiate the first round by saying Bismillahi Allahu Akbar. However, in remaining six rounds he should just say Allahu Akbar.

Ramal
In the first three rounds, only men should observe ramal. Ramal means walking fast with short steps shaking the shoulders like a brave soldier going to battlefield. But he is not required to run. If Ramal is not possible due to crowd, one should at least try to pretend doing so. For remaining four rounds, men should walk at their normal pace. Women should walk at their normal pace for all the rounds. One should note that this Ramal and Idhtiba are observed in only Tawaf-eQudum during Hajj: the very first Tawaf that a pilgrim does upon reaching Makkah. And the Tawaf of Umrah.

There are no specific dua for each round. Read Quran and make Dua from your heart in your own way and in your own language and glorify Allah. However, it is sunnah to recite this dua in each round between Rukn-e-yamaani and Hajr-e-aswad.:

Rabbanaa aatinaa fi-d dunyaa hasanatan wa fi-l aakhirati hasanatan wa qinaa 'adhaaba-n naar. O Allah gives us good in this life, and good in the Hereafter and save us from the Punishment of the Fire.

When passing the Yemeni Corner, touch it with your right hand but do not kiss it. If it is not possible to touch the Yemeni Corner, then do nothing. Do not face your hand to the Yemeni corner and say Allahu Akbar. This is only for the Black Stone. You do not touch the Shami or the 'Iraqi Corners at all. Do not wipe the walls of the Kabah during Tawaf. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) did not touch anything other than the Black Stone and the Yemeni Corner.

Hijr Ismaeel (Hateem)

A half circled place adjacent to Kabah is called "HATEEM". It is originally the inner side of Kabah but in the times of Prophet Muhammad (S. A. W.), it could not be built completely due to non availability of funds. It means holy kabah was initially in rectangle shape not as squared as we see today. Prophet SAW has reported to have said, praying inside the hateem is as if one has prayed inside the kabaa, and Aisha RA wanted to pray inside the kabaa, and Prophet SAW took her to the hateem.

Hateem is actually the inner part of kaba and because of this fact the tawaf is done out side hateem. It means tawaf is done in rectangular shape covering holy kaba as well as hateem. Secondly no compulsory salat (5 times mandatory prayers) is permitted to offer in hateem. Hateem is closed when the imam leads 5 time compulsory prayer. However pilgrims may offer their nafils (optional prayers) in this area. This place has been kept open so that a worshiper could get the opportunity to pray (NAFIL) here. It is just an equal honour for a believer as if he prays inside the Kabah.

Continue Tawaf without interruption, unless it is necessary, otherwise it will be void. If during Tawaf, Jamaat for Fard Salah starts, pause your Tawaf. Men should cover their right shoulder and stand with the congregation for prayer. Women should also pause their Tawaf and stand for prayer. After the prayer is over, men should again uncover their right shoulder. Men and women can now restart their Tawaf from the location they left , including the counting rounds already done, total 7 rounds of Tawaf should be completed. If you need to go to the restroom you may interrupt your Tawaf and go. Make Wudu before coming back to resume your Tawaf. You resume your Tawaf from where you left. The Kabah should be to your left. Do not do Tawaf with your back or right to the kabah. Do not walk backwards. Tawaf shall be performed within the boundaries of Al-Masjid Al-Haraam.

Al-Multazam: the place between the corner of the Black Stone and the Door of the Kaba is called Multazam.

Invocations at this place are specially granted. According to 'Sunnat' you are to go to Multazam after Tawaf. There, you are to place your both hands upright in the direction over your head-on the wall of this particular part of Ka'ba. You are also to touch the wall with your breast and cheeks, and pray to Allah humbly and submissively. It is an experienced act that such invocation is never rejected.

When you finish the 7th round cover your right shoulder and move to the Place of Ibraheem and recite:

"

Wa-t takhidhoo min maqaami Ibraaheema musallaa. [2:125] "And appoint for yourselves a place of prayer on the standing-place of Ibraheem."

Pray Two Rakahs

Place the Maqam Ibraheem between yourself and the Ka'bah and then pray two rak'ahs. It is sunnah to recite Surah Kafiroon in the first rakaat and Surah Ikhlaas in the second rakaat after reciting Surah Fatihah.

Make Excessive Dua and beg Allah to forgive you with great hope that Allah will surely forgive you..

Maqam Ibrahim

Well of Zamzam Coolers with zamzam water

After praying the Nafil Salah it is sunnah to drink Zamzam water

stand facing the Qiblah, make Dua, dua made before drinking zamzam are accepted. Say Bismillah and with your right hand drink zamzam in three breaths and pour some of the water on your head.

Zamzam water is available in coolers everywhere in the Masjid. During the Hajj season coolers are removed from the Tawaf area, but will be available in other areas of the Masjid.

Start Sa from Mount Safa

After Tawaf when you become free from having a drink of Zamzam Water and ready to go for Sa'i you should go again to Hajar-e-Aswad and offer an Istilam for the 9th time, i. e. you kiss Hajar-e-Aswad if possible, otherwise touch Hajar-e-Aswad with your hand and then kiss it. If you cannot touch it you should make a gesture (indication) towards it with your hand and say Bismillahi Allahu Akbar, but do not kiss your hand, then proceed towards the Hill of Mount Safa for performing Sa.

Upon getting closer to mount Safa read the ayah:

{ }
Inna-s safaa wal marwata min sha'aa'iri-l llaahi faman hajja-l baita aw i`tamara falaa junaaha 'alaihi an yattawwafa bihimaa wa man tatawwa'a khairan fa inna-l llaaha shaakirun 'aleem. [2, 158] Surely the Safa and the Marwa are among the Symbols of Allah; so whoever makes a pilgrimage to the House or pays a visit (to it), there is no sin if he goes round them both; and whoever does good of his own accord, then surely Allah is Grateful, Knowing.

Mount Safa

Then say:
"

"

Nabda'u bimaa bada'a Allaahu bihi We begin with that which Allah began with (i.e. the Safa).

Start the Sa from the hill of Safa, climb the Safa until you see the Kaba. But this may not be easy with today's construction. So it's sufficient to just face the Ka'bah.

Once on top of the Safa, face the Qiblah , raise the hands parallel to the shoulders, the palms facing the heavens (as they are raised during Du'aa), and thereafter recite the following thrice :,

Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar Laa ilaaha illaa Allahu waHdahu laa shareeka lahu, lahu-l mulk wa lahul Hamd, yuHyee wa yumeetu, wa huwa alaa kulli shayin qadeer Laa ilaaha illaa Allahu waHdahu laa shareeka lahu - anjaza wa'dahu wa nasara 'abdahu wa After finishing these Dua one should make Dua of his own choice. hazama-l ahzaaba wahdahu.

Then you should proceed towards the mount of Marwah. While proceeding a male pilgrim should run between the two green lights, and women should walk at a normal pace. Then you walk up to al-Marwah and ascend it. Do upon Marwah as you did upon Safa. And that forms one complete lap.

Then you return till you ascend asSafa, jogging between the green sign-posts, and that is a second lap. Then you return to Marwah, and so on till you complete seven laps finishing upon Marwah. You may make this du'a in say:

Rabbi ghfir warHam innaka anta-l a'azzu-l akram.
O Lord forgive me and have mercy, Verily You are the Mightiest and Noblest.
One should keep himself busy with Dhikr, dua and reciting the Quran during Saee. Wudoo is not obligatory for Saee. However, it is better to perform it with wudoo.

Exit from Marwah

After completing, the Saee between Safa and Marwah hair should be shaved or trimmed. Shaving is more recommended and rewardable than trimming. To shave the head is called 'Halq' and to cut the hair is called Qasr. It is not appropriate for men to trim a small amount of hair like women, cut hair equally from all over head; Women should cut one-third finger length of hair. The shaving or trimming of the hair is the last of the actions of Umrah. All the restrictions imposed because of the Ihraam, will now be lifted. The Umrah is now complete.

Halq or Taqseer

Upon leaving al-Masjidul-Haraam put your left foot out, recite

Bismillaah wassaalatu wassalaamu ala Rasoolillaah. Allahumma innee 'as'aluka min fadhlika (I begin with the name of Allah and Peace and Blessing be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, verily I ask You For Your Favour.)

One can remove his Ihraam. Everything that became forbidden to you upon entering Ihraam now becomes permissible again. You remain in the state of Hill (being out of the state of Ihraam) until the day of Tarwiyah (8th Dhu-l Hijjah).

Stay in Makkah
In the Haram, the reward for good deeds is multiplied many times, and so is the punishment for sins. Try not to miss any salat in the Masjid Al-Haram; each salat there is better than 100,000 salat elsewhere: the equivalent of more than 55 years of salat! Make optional tawaf as much as possible, as it is better than salat at the Masjid AlHaram. (No need of Ihram for this tawaf) You should pray two rak'as of "taHiyyat al-masjid" in case you don't intend to make a Tawaf. Use time wisely, it is so precious there.

Taneem - Masjid-e-Aisha(Masjid-e-Umrah)

The original name of "Masjid-e-Aisha" is "TA NEEM". In Makkah some people say it "Masjid-e-Aisha" and some say Ta`neem and some say Masjid-e-Umrah. This beautiful mosque is situated a few kilometres away from Masjid-ul-Haram.

The people who come from outside Makkah with Ihram and perform Umrah and wants to perform another Umrah, living in the vicinity of Makkah they have to go to Masjid-e-Aisha to state their intention and re-enter Makkah in Ihram). Make ghusl and change into your ihram before you go. Then at Tan'im you just pray 2 rakats and make your intention for umrah again. Comeback to haram and perform your second (or third or fourth) umrah... It is just like MEQAT (Place where IHRAM has to put on by pilgrims)

Once Prophet Muhammad (S. A. W.) was coming to Makkah with his wife Aisha (RA)" and other companions, for performing Umrah. Aisha (RA), could not come under Ihram" because of some unavoidable natural reasons. During the stay in Makkah, when Aisha (RA) got her purity, she expressed her desire to perform Umrah. Prophet Muhammad (S. A. W.) allowed her to go to outside Makkah (Ta`neem) for wearing Ihram". This sunna has been following by faithful since then. Aisha(RA) put on Ihram from this point and this is the reason, it is called "Masjid-e-Aisha (RA)".

DAY -1 8 Dhu-l Hijjah (Tarwiah Day) Mina

Ihraam for Hajj

On 8th Dhul Hijjah - Perform Ghusl and wear the Ihram dress at the location you are staying. If you are in Makkah, then you make Ihraam from your place of residence (hotel, apartment, etc.). If you are in Madinah, then you make Ihraam from the meeqat of Dhul Hulayfah (Abyar Ali).

Declare the intention of Hajj by saying :

Labbaik Allahumma bi -hajjah Here I am O Allah, (in response to Your call) making Hajj.

In fear of not completing the Hajj, recite

Allahumma mahillee haithu habastanee (O Allah my place is wherever you prevent me). (Bukhari and Muslim )

Start saying the Talbiyah:

Labbaik labbaik, labbaika laa shareeka laka Allaahumma innal hamda wan ni'mata laka wal mulk, laa labbaik,

Continue the talbiyah until you throw the pebbles at Jamrat Al-Aqabah on the 10th of Dhu-l Hijjah.

After making the intention, the pilgrim may say:

Allaahumma haadhihi hajjah, laa riyaaa feehaa wa laa sumah (O Allaah this is a Hajj, there being no ostentation in it or hypocrisy.) [From AdDiyaa with saheeh isnaad] The Messenger of Allah ( ) used to, after reciting Talbiyah, asking Allah for Jannah (Paradise) and used to seek refuge of Allah from the Hellfire: Allahumma inni asaluka ridhwanaka wal jannata, Wa adhu bi rahmatika minnannaar

Go to Mina in the morning of Yaum at-Tarwiyah (8th of Dhu-l Hijjah). Pray Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha and Fajr in their times with qasr(shortening). Spending this night in Mina is a Sunnah. For some scholars it's a wajib. Use your time to gather your thoughts and prepare for the next day: the day of Arafah. Pray in Masjid Al-khaif. It is reported that 70 prophets prayed in that masjid.

Mount of Mercy To Muzdalifah

ARAFAH
Masjid Namira

Offer the Fajr prayer in the morning of 9th Zul-Hajjah while still at Mina.

Head towards Arafa right after sunrise. Say the Takbiraat and the Talbiyah while travelling towards Arafah:

Takbir : Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Laa ilaaha illallah, wa Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar wa lillahil hamd.

Talbiyah :

Stay in the valley of Nimrah till noon and then enter the Plains of Arafah.

Listen silently and attentively to the Khutba given by the Imam of Masjid e Nimrah, whether you understand anything or not.

Offer the Zuhr and Asr prayers combined & shortened at the time of Dhuhr.

Namira is not part of Arafah, but part of the Masjid is within the limits of Arafah.

Masjid An Namarah

After salat move to your place inside the limits of Arafah, stand facing the Qiblah, raising your hands making du'a preferably standing.. in the open. Remember to stay WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF ARAFAH. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS YOUR HAJJ IS INVALID The main task of this day is making Duas so make excessive duas, make dua for all. There are no prescribed prayers or supplications for 'Arafah, so there is no need for (prayer) books. Just make your du'aa in your own language and your remembrance of Allaah in any way you know, as long as it comes (sincerely) from the heart. You should not get involved with the people in idle talk or disputes, but rather, remain alone in order to call to Allaah, praise Him, magnify Him and glorify Him.

Make Lots of Dua

The Prophet (pbuh) said: The best thing that I and the Prophets have said on the evening of Arafah is

Laa ilaha illAllahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu lahul mulk wa lahul hamdu wa huwa 'alaa kulli shay'in qadeer. There is none truly worthy of worship except Allah alone, without partner. To Him belongs all Sovereignty and all Praise, and He is Omnipotent over all things.

Al-Mash'ar Al-Haraam

To Arafah

When you first arrive at al-Muzdalifah, you are to perform the Maghrib prayer in three rak'aat and the 'Ishaa prayer in two rak'aat, combining the two prayers. You make one Adhaan and two Iqaamah. Upon completing the two prayers, you can go to sleep. You do not pray anything between them or after 'Isha. Then you sleep until Fajr. It is masnoon to sleep overnight at Muzdalfah.

Collect small stones from here for Rami to be performed the next day.

It is permissible for weak persons and women to leave after half of the night has passed for fear of the crush of people.

DAY - 3 10th Dhu-l Hijjah

Yawm an-Nahr (The Day of Sacrifice).

Mina

Offer the Fajr prayer in the morning of 10th Zul Hajjah while still at Muzdalfah After offering Fajr, stand near Mashar e Haram or anywhere in Muzdalfah facing the Qiblah and excessively make duas before sunrise. Leave for Mina before Sunrise and recite the Talbiyah on the way. Walk Quickly through the valley of Muhsir on the way to Mina. Weak, old and ill pilgrims can send someone else on their behalf to perform Rami.

Masjid al-Mash'ar al-Haraam

Leaving Muzdalfah going to Mina

You will be doing the following on 10th Zul-Hajjah It is sunnah to do the following in this order 1. Stone Jamrat al-'Aqabah

2. Sacrifice an animal 3. Shave or trim off your hair 4. Go to Makkah to do Tawaf al-Ifadah & Sa'y and come back to Mena

1.Stone Jamrat al-'Aqabah

Jamarat al-Aqabah

Size of pebbles

You stone Jamrat al-'Aqabah only on 10th Zul-Hajjah, with seven small stones slightly bigger than the chick-pea. Stop recital of Talbiyah after pelting the first pebble. You recite takbeer while throwing each stone. You cannot perform this stoning until after sunrise. And you may delay it after noon, even up to the night, if you find difficulty in doing it before noon.

2. Sacrifice an animal

Skip this step if you made "tawkeel" for animal sacrifice (you bought a coupon) Slaughter your animal in any part of Mina or Makkah. The time for slaughter is the four days of 'Eid. Seven people may share in one camel or cow. And he who cannot afford a sacrificial animal should fast three days in Hajj (even the 3 days of tashreeq) and seven when he returns to his family.

3. Shave or trim off your hair

Then you shave off all of your hair or shorten it. Shaving is better. Start with the right side of the head. The woman shortens her hair the length of a finger joint.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as having said: O Allah, grant pardon to those who got their heads shaved They (Companions of the Holy Prophet) said: Messenger of Allah, (what about those) who get their hair cut? He said: O Allah, grant pardon to those who get their heads shaved. They said: Messenger of Allah, (what about those) who got their hair clipped? He said: O Allah, grant pardon to those who get their heads shaved. They said: Messenger of Allah, (what about those) who get their hair clipped? He said: O Allah, grant pardon to those who get their heads shaved. They said: (What about those) who get their hair clipped? He said: (O Allah, grant pardon to) those who get their hair clipped.

4. Go to Makkah to do Tawaf al-Ifadah (Tawaf-e-Ziyarat) & Sa'y and come back to Mina - 10 Dhu-l Hijjah

Then you go off that day to Makkah and make Tawaf al-Ifadah (Tawaf-e-Ziyarat) in the same way as in the Tawaf of arrival, except that there is no idtiba or ramal in this Tawaf. Pray two rak'ahs behind Maqam Ibraheem.

Then you do say between Safaa and Marwah as before. The restrictions of Ihram are finished after performing this Tawaf. Go back to Mina and stay there overnight.

For a Sa'i performed after the stay at Arafat and along with the

Tawaf of Ziyarat, Ihram not a condition. It is even preferable and

desirable to perform Tawaf-e-Ziyarat, after taking off Ihram (i.e.

taking off the white sheet and wearing normal dress) in Mina on the 10th
of Zilhijja when you already become free from offering a sacrifice and having your head shaven. But Ihram is a condition for the Sa'i of Hajj which is performed before the stay at Arafat. Similarly, Ihram stands a condition for a Sa'i of Umra as well.

Sequence of Manasik on the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: I saw the Prophet near the Jamrah

and the people were asking him questions. A man asked, "O Messenger of Allah! I have slaughtered the Hady (animal) before doing the Rami." The Prophet replied, "Do the Rami (now) and there is no harm." Another person asked, "O Messenger of Allah! I got my head shaved before slaughtering the animal." The Prophet replied, "Do the slaughtering (now) and there is no harm." So on that day, when the Prophet was asked about anything as regards the ceremonies of hajj performed before or after its due time his reply was, "Do it (now) and there is no harm." Narrated by al-Bukhari.

DAY - 4 11th Dhu-l Hijjah

Ayaam at-Tashreeq (The Days of Drying).

Mina

The Days of Tashreeq are named so because the meat that was slaughtered on the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah and later used to be laid out

in the sun after butchering. This was done in order to dry out the meat for preservation for the return journey home, refrigeration in those times. According to the Prophet, these are days of eating, drinking, and for remembering Allaah. since there was no

Stay in Mina for the days of tashreeq and their nights. It is preferable to stay in Mina during these days than going to Makkah. This is the Sunnah of the Prophet PBUH. Most scholars consider the staying in Mina as a Wajib.

Mina - Jamarat
Jamarat

Perform the Rami of all the three Jamarat after Noon You must first start with the stoning of the small pillar (Jamara Ula), then the middle pillar (Jamarat Wasata) and lastly, the big pillar. (Jamarat Aqabah)

For each pillar you are to throw seven pebbles, reciting Allaahu Akbar with each throw. After the first Jamarat, move forward and stand facing the Qiblah and make du'aa while raising your hands for what you wish before leaving for the next pillar.

After the second Jamarat, make more dua before leaving for the next pillar.

Spend the rest of the time in worship and Zikr of Allah Subhanahu wa Tala. Do not waste time in useless wordly talks. Spend maximum time in duas. Read the following Dua excessively. Rabbana aatina fid duniya hasanataw wa fil aakhirati hasanataw wa qina azaaban naar. Stay overnight at Mina.

DAY - 5 12 th Dhu-l Hijjah

Ayaam at-Tashreeq (The Days of Drying).

Mina

Perform the Rami of all the three Jamaraat after Noon in the same way as done on Day 4. Leave for Makkah before Maghrib. If the sunsets and you are not able to leave for Makkah before Maghrib, then it becomes necessary to stay back in Mina one more day and on 13th Zul-Hajjah perform Rami again and then head back to Makkah.

DAY - 6 13 th Dhu-l Hijjah

Ayaam at-Tashreeq (The Days of Drying).

Mina

Those who were not able to leave makkah on 12th ZulHajjah before sunsets , or those who wanted to stay till 13th Zul-Hajjah, they will perform the Rami of all the three Jamaraat after Noon on 13th Zul-Hajjah in the same way as done on Day 4. Then leave for Makkah.

Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet said. "Traveling is but a sort of torture. One is prevented from (properly) eating and drinking. So when one of you (travels and) accomplishes his work, he must hasten back to his family." This is reported by Bukhari and Muslim. 'Aishah reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "When one of you has performed Hajj, he should hasten back to his family, for that will increase his reward." This was reported by Ad-Daraqutni.

Farewell Tawaf
When the Haji wants to go back to his country he has to make the farewell Tawaf . The Prophet (pbuh) said: "None of you should depart until he makes his last act Tawaf of the House." When you finish the Tawaaf you leave the mosque like the rest of the people - not walking backwards. The prophet (pbuh) used to carry Zamzam water with him in water skins and containers, and he used to pour it upon the sick and give it to them to drink.

If a woman begins her menses cycle before, during, or after the rites of Hajj, she can complete all the ordered sequence of rites of the Hajj except the Tawaaf (circumambulation) around the House in seven circuits, until she becomes clean after the end of the menses. If a woman in her menses has done her Tawaf-e-Ifaadah then Tawaf-ul-Wada is not obligatory upon her, she can leave without it.

You are not accountable for inadvertent violations of the prohibitions of Ihram. Should you violate the sanctity of the Ihram knowingly and willfully, you are required to offer a Dum by way of expiation and of renewing your commitment to Hajj. There are three ways you may offer this Kaffarah: By offering a sacrifice. By feeding six indigent and poor people. By fasting for three days. You must offer the Dum as soon as possible. However, you may delay it to a more suitable time and place if absolutely necessary.

Extra There are five types of Tawaf : Notes

1.

Tawaf ul Qudoom is the initial Tawaf you will perform upon arrival at the Masjid ul Haram in Mecca for the first time pursuant upon your niyyah of Umra or Hajj. This is the only Tawaf in which you are required to wear Ihram and practice Idtiba and Ramal. They are not required in any other type of Tawaf.

2.

Tawaf ul Ifadah (Tawaf uz Ziyarah) is the Tawaf you will perform on the 10th of Zul Hijjah after taking off the Ihram and changing into street clothes and before returning to Mina for Ramy. Ihram, Idtiba and Ramal are not required in this Tawaf. However, Sai is required.

3.

Tawaf ul Wuda (The Farewell Tawaf) is the Tawaf you will perform immediately before leaving Mecca for your next destination following the completion of Hajj. This is the last act you perform in Mecca. You are not supposed to linger there after this Tawaf. Ihram, Idtiba, Ramal and Sai are not required in Tawaf ul Wuda.

4.

Tawaf un Nafl is a devotional Tawaf you may perform any time, and as many times as, you wish. No Ihram is required for this Tawaf. Sai is also not required.

5.

Tawaf ul Umra is the Tawaf you perform as a part of the rites of Umra. It is identical to Tawaf ul Qudoom in its essentials except for the niyyah.
