The devastating effects of increased emission of gases to the atmosphere As man continues with his encroachment of the natural resources, these practices turn out to be detrimental to the existence of the human species in the near future. This is due to the continuous emission of toxic gases to the atmosphere. The worlds ever increasing need of minerals for use in both the production industries, as a source of energy and in the manufacture of war machinery. There has been a relenting search for the required minerals without a proper feasibility study on the overwhelming effects that it has on the ozone layer. The whole world is now facing the severe effects of global warming with some recording a long period of droughts and change in seasons. Aquatic species are nearly facing the threat of being extinct because there are no clear and fast policies that are set in place to guard against the menace. Initially, the leading economies took the lead in fighting to protect the environment through promotion of the use of green energy, but the growing economies are seen as the ones speeding the effects through their search for development in the expense of the lives of the populace. These developing economies, which are known as the tigers, are more development oriented than nature preserving. The issue of global warming has raised a lot of concerns with regards to morality. This is because the matter rests in the hands of an individual himself. It is a matter that only requires a decision making. The decisions that are being made, I can say, are not the right decisions. This is because we totally understand the consequences but we go ahead and take the risk. Some other nations have turn to green sources of energy so as to reduce the effects on the ozone layer. Others have put regulations in place to regulate the amount of gases that are emitted by various

industries to the atmosphere. Therefore, it is a matter of personal or national decision (McCoy & Mendez, 2010). The issue of global warming has put the thoughts of different individuals in dilemma. Some of the individuals see their betterment in economic terms as the biggest gain they have derived from the process of the national capital accumulation. On the other hand, they have put their lives on peril. The weighing of the two has hampered their decision making. The individuals should put into consideration the lives of the future coming generations. This is because their future rests in how well we utilize the existing resources. If we misuse the resources now, we shall make their lives hard and unendurable. The wiser decision is to strike a balance between preserving the environment and resource search. The issue should be addressed soberly with all the impacts either positive or negative being considered. The government should consider if it is well to have resources now but spare our future generations and even ruin our own lives. The governing authorities should put in place policies that regulate the extraction and use of any resource. The extraction rate should be directly proportional to the rate of reclamation. The rate at which the resource can renew itself should not be left to demise.
