Then, things got worse! Pharaoh saw that the Israelites were having many children, so there were more and more of them all the time. Pharaoh was more worried than ever that they might try to take over his country, so he made a terrible new law: Every newborn baby boy must be thrown into the Nile River!

In a small hut lived a woman named Jochebed. Jochebed was afraid that her baby would get taken away by the soldiers and thrown into the river, so she hid her baby in their house. But when he was three months old, she knew she would need a new plan. Her baby boy was getting too big to hide! Then God gave her a plan.

Jochebed wove a sturdy basket. Then she carefully wrapped her beloved baby in a blanket and prayed for his safety. She placed her baby in the basket and set him afloat down the river. Jochebed sent her daughter Miriam to follow the basket and see what would happen.

Pharaohs daughter was taking a swim in the river, when she looked over and saw the basket floating along. She was curious, and opened it and found a cute little baby boy. She was delighted! The river has brought me a baby! the princess squealed. I will keep him as my own son. I will call him Moses! Miriam heard this and was pleased. God had saved the life of her brother! Now Moses would be protected and cared for. Ahora Moiss estara protegido y atendido.

Moses grew up in the court of Pharaoh, as a prince. But Moses people, the Israelites, were still slaves, and Moses saw how badly they were treated.
One day Moses saw a guard beating a slave. Moses became very angry and killed the guard. Moses knew Pharaoh would be furious, so he ran far, far away, across the desert, to hide in a distant land.

One day, as Moses was out walking, he was shocked to see a small bush burst into flame. Then the voice of God spoke to Moses out of the bush! Moses, I have chosen you for a very special and important mission. I want you to go back to Egypt and tell Pharaoh to let My people go. I will be with you, and I will tell you what to say, God promised Moses.

When Moses arrived in Pharaohs court, Pharaoh was shocked. What are you doing here? he thundered. I have been sent by God, Moses replied. He wants you to let the Israelites leave Egypt! I will never let my slaves go! Pharaoh laughed. I will do whatever I want. Pharaoh would not listen, so God sent plagues upon him and his country. The water turned into blood! Millions of frogs started hopping all over the place! Flies buzzed everywhere! Locusts ate up all the crops!
Dios me envi contest Moiss. No dejar ir a mis esclavos!

Finally Pharaoh said to Moses, Take your people and leave, right away! I dont want any more of these bad things to happen!
Soon the Israelites were on the move. After some time of traveling, they saw something in the distance behind them. Oh no! It looks like chariots and horsemen! someone cried out. And it was! Pharaoh had sent his soldiers to bring the Israelites back to Egypt to be slaves again.

Uy, no! Parecen caros y jinetes! grit alguien.

The people were desperate. In front of them was the Red Sea. There was no way of escape. What can we do? they wailed. God did not fail them. Moses prayed and lifted up his staff, and the waters of the great Sea separated! The people walked through the middle of the Red Seaon dry ground!

The Israelites escaped from Pharaohs soldiers, and went on to find their new home the Promised Land.

La gente no saba qu hacer. Delante estaba el Mar Rojo. No haba forma de escapar. Qu hacemos? geman.
