It is recommended that this MANUAL be kept readily available as an important reference when using this power tool. To operate this electric power tool safely and efficiently, please read this INSTRUCTION MANUAL carefully to get a good understanding of the precautions in operation, the capacity of the electric power tool, uses and the like. IMPORTANT INFORMATION SAFETY RULES FOR POWER TOOLS . KEEP WORK AREA CLEAN. Cluttered areas and benches invite accidents. 2. AVOID DANGEROUS ENVIRONMENT. Don't expose power tools to rain. Don’t use power tool in damp or wet locations. And keep work area well lit . KEEP CHILDREN AWAY. All visitors should be kept safe distance from work area 4, STORE IDLE TOOLS. When not in use, tools should be stored in dry, high or locked-up place —out of reach of children 5. DON'T FORCE TOOL. It will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed 6. USE RIGHT TOOL. Don’t force small tool or attachment to do the job of a heavy duty tool 7. WEAR PROPER APPAREL. No loose clothing or jewelry to get caught in moving parts. Rubber gloves and footwear are recommended when working outdoors. . USE SAFETY GLASSES with most tools. Also face or dust mask if cutting operation is dusty 9. DON'T ABUSE CORD. Never carry tool by cord or yank it to disconnect from receptacle Keep cord from heat, oil and sharp edges 10. SECURE WORK. Use clamps or a vise to hold work. It's safer than using your hand and it frees both hands to operate too! 11, DON’T OVERREACH. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. 12. MAINTAIN TOOLS WITH CARE. Keep tools sharp at all times, and clean for best and safest performance. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories. 13. DISCONNECT TOOLS. When not in use, before servicing: when changing accessories such as blades, bits, cutters, etc 14. REMOVE ADJUSTING KEYS AND WRENCHES. Form habit of checking to see that keys and adjusting wrenches are removed from tool before turning it on 15. AVOID ACCIDENTAL STARTING. DOUBLE INSULATION SYSTEM ASSURES SAFETY OPERATION OF POWER TOOL To ensure safe operation of this Electric Power Tool, Hitachi has adopted double insulation system The term “double insulation” used here denotes an insulation system with two ingulations physically separated and so arranged between electrically conductive material connected to the power supply and the outer frame accessible to contact by the operator's hand. Thus, the power tool is called double insulated tool and [Bi] mark is indicated on the name plate. DOUBLE INSULATION To use this Electric Power Tool safely and efficiently, follow the precautions described below. 1. Wrong parts replacement and/or improper assembling may result in eliminating the double insulation system. Always contact your dealer or an authorized HITACHI Service Agent when assembling, disassembling or replacing the parts 2. Chloric solvent, gasoline, and thinner cause plastic to dissolve. Extension cord Use an extension cord when the work site is removed from the power supply. In this case, an extension cord of sufficient thickness shall be used. Actually, use the shortest possible extension cord Caution: Damaged cord must be replaced or repaired. 2, Confirming condition of the environment Confirm that the work site is placed under appropriate conditions confirming to prescribed pre: cautions. L BEFORE USE Caution: Confirm the following points prior to connecting the plug to the power receptacle. 1, Confirm the applied power source Be sure to operate the Electric Power Tool in the voltage specified on the name plate. 2, Confirm that the power switch is turned OFF If the plug is connected to the power receptacle while the power switch is turned ON. the machine starts operating unexpectedly, inviting serious accidents. Prior to using the Electric Power Tool, be sure to confirm that the power switch is turned OFF. 3, Mount the blade Regarding the blade mounting method, refer to the item "MOUNTING THE BLADE , 4, Confirm the blade clamping Confirm that the blade setscrew sufficiently clamped. 5, When using the guide roller, adjust it correctly according to instructions in the item ‘ADJUSTING AND REMOVING THE GUIDE ROLLER 6, Confirm the power receptacle. If the power receptacle only. loosely accepts the plug, the receptacle must be repaired. Contact the nearest electric store for repair service. If such a faulty receptacle is used, it may cause overheating, resulting in a serious hazard. MOUNTING THE BLADE Caution: Be sure to switch power OFF and disconnect the attachment plug from the power receptacle to avoid serious trouble (Loosing the blade set screw of set ring. (2While holding the blade with its edge facing the front, insert the mounting portion of the blade into the plunger groove until it touches the groove bottom, and little clamp the set screw which is facing the front. (see Fig. 3) (Sufficiently clamp the set screw which is facing the side, (see Fig. 4) @Sufficiently clamp the set screw which is facing the front. Blade Set Screw Fig.3 Fig. 4 Fig. 5 Caution: Since loosened set screws may cause the blade to be blunted or damaged, always secure the set screws firmly. When the blade mounting groove is filled with sawdust, insufficient blade mounting or defective screw clamping may result. Always heed this possibility. ADJUSTING AND REMOVING THE GUIDE ROLLER Caution: Be sure to switch power OFF and disconnect the attachment plug from the power receptacle to avoid serious trouble 1, Adjusting the guide roller ‘The guide roller is employed to prevent the blade from snapping. Use the guide roller after effecting adjustment according to the following procedures: (1) Use the provided hexagon bar wrench to loosen the holder set screw. (2) Push part A of the holder with the fingers until the roller groove lightly touches the back of the biade (see Fig. 6) On delivery from the factory, there exists a gap of about 1/8" between the roller and the blade. (3) Sufficiently clamp the holder set screw Holder Fig. 6 oWhen using the guide roller, employ a blade with a straight back such as Fig. 7-A. ~] oWhen using a blade with a bent back like B in Caution: Fig. 7-B adjust the roller so that it will not touch the blade, or remove the guide roller from the main body before use. A /y Fig? 2, Removing the guide roller The guide roller of this Jig Saw can be removed by fol lowing the procedures described below. (1) Use the provided hexagon bar wrench to loosen the screw underneath the base and remove the guide roller (Fig. 1) from the main body. (2) When reassembling the main body and the base, insert a base locker and a Mé4 spring lock washer between the base ri and the 4mm screw, and sufficiently clamp the 4mm screw imm Screw (Accessory) see Fig. 8 ‘mm Spring Lock Washer °° "189 Fig. 8 HOW TO USE THE JIG SAW Cautions: © While sawing, the base must be in close contact with the material to be cut, and the blade must be held at a right angle position. Ii the base becomes separated from the material, it could cause the blade to break. oWhen cutting 2” ~ 2-3/8”— thick material, remove the guide roller before using the Jig Saw (see Fig. 1). Regarding the method of removing the guide roller, according to instruction in the item "ADJUSTING AND REMOVING THE GUIDE ROLLER, 1, Adjusting the blade operating speed-----(Speed adjustment is not possible for Type JH-60A) ‘Type JHT-60A For Type JHT-G0A, the blade operating speed can be changed in two stages (High-speed/Low-speed) according to the method of pressing the switch trigger. Select an appropriate speed suited to the materials to be cut and the operating conditions. When selecting high speed, pull the switch trigger all the way back (High Speed, Fig. 9). For continuous operation at high-speed, depress the stopper while pulling the switch trigger all the way back. To turn the switch OFF, pull the switch trigger again, and release one’s finger after the stopper has unlocked. When selecting low speed, pull the switch trigger only halfway back (Low Speed, Fig. 9). For continuous operation at low-speed, depress the stopper while pulling the switch trigger halfway back. To turn the switch OFF, pull the switch trigger again, and release one's finger after the stopper has unlocked. Caution: Exercise care in pulling the switch trigger all the way back to release the stopper after continuous operation at low speed, since high speed will result ‘Type JHV-60 For Type JHV-60, the blade operating speed is adjustable by adjusting movement of the switch trigger. Select an appropriate speed suited to the materials to be cut and the operating conditions For continuous operation, pull the switch trigger all the way back and depress the stopper to set the Jig Saw in operation. Then, tum the speed adiustment knob to adjust to an appropriate speed. (The ad: justment knob rotates approximately 7 turn\see Fig. 10) When turning the switch to OFF, pull the switch trigger again, and release one’s finger after the stopper has unlocked. (see Fig. 11) Mount the guide through the mounting hole on the base and clamp the 5mm screw. (see Fig. 12) Rectilinear Guide — Cutting a circle or a cireular are In this case, use the provided circular guide and the centering Guide. (see Fig. 13). When mounting the guide, loosen the base bottom screw (Fig. 14). shift the base as far front as it will go, and clamp the base bottom screw. (see Fig. 18) Fig. 18 8, Cutting slopes When adjusting the angle of inclination, loosen the base bottom screw (see Fig. 14), shift the base position to the side groove of its semicircular portion, align the scale of the base semicircular portion (figure engraved on the scale indicates the angle of inclination) with the guide roller edge line, and then throughly reclamp the base bottom screw. REGARDING THE BLADES. 1, The blades to be used To improve operating efficiency and results, the most important step is to select the appropriate blade best suited to the quality and thinckness of the material to be cut. Four types of the blades are provided as standard accessories. Fig. 21 MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION Caution: Be sure to switch power OFF and disconnect the plug during maintenance and inspection. 1, Inspecting the blade Since use of an abraded blade will cause motor malfunctioning and degraded efficiently, replace the blade with a new one without delay when abrasion is noted, 2, Inspecting the carbon brushes ‘The motor employs carbon brushes as expendable components. If the brushes are worn, motor trouble may result, When brushes are worn down to the limit line, replace them with new brushes.
