Arpan has been founded and managed by a team of young Agricultural Engineering professionals with commitment to improve the quality of life by sustainable development. Arpan aims to achieve the goal through effective implementation of the rural developmental programmes utilizing the local resources with people centric approach. Arpan Seva Sansthan is registered under Rajasthan Societies Registration Act, 1958 on March 29, 1996. As the name signifies, Arpan means to deliver; deliver the services to the society. Arpan is conceding its endeavors for improving socio-economic condition by undertaking the issues like Natural Resource Management, Watershed Resource Development, Agriculture Development, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Health and Hygiene, Poverty, Capacity Building, environmental protection and other developmental concerns. Arpan is also committed to conserve the heritage, art and culture. Initially, Arpan Seva Sansthan started working on only a couple of areas and over a span of 14 years we are now playing a decisive role in mainstream social issues across the working area. We are able to achieve the milestones with the help of a devoted and expert team. By casting local tribal communities with our team, our efforts are now successful and reflected in the visible positive changes, channeled through our organization. Our organization plays role of a catalyst in institutional development. Our strategies are focused and well planned to achieve the desired objectives. Team of Arpan Seva Sansthan ventured into interior backward tribal belt of Udaipur, Dungarpur, Banswara and Sirohi districts to develop alliances with rural societies and to meet out the basic developmental issues. Implementation process has been executed through a series of meetings and awareness campaigns involving the target community to render better results. It therefore enabled to ameliorate living standards of more than 3000 tribal families directly in these districts. Now we are in process to discover new horizons to achieve our ultimate goal that is to bring the deprived classes in the mainstream by improving the socioeconomic condition of rural community. Profile Formed in year 1996, by a group of young enthusiasts with a philanthropic bent of mind, Arpan Seva Sansthan strives for innovative solutions to combat social issues. While working on research projects during college time, we came in a close contact of the problems faced by rural unprivileged classes. This was the inspiration of our endeavor, and the same is reflected in our mission and vision statement.

Our mission is to develop: An optimal mechanism for Rural Society especially deprived sections, with commitment for sustainable livelihood & improved quality of life which is achieved through different developmental programs & effective application of local resources in association with community. Vision Arpan Seva Sansthan happens to be a vision of youth zealots, with an altruist approach. We strive for the following perspective for development: To develop into a state level resource center for water resource developmental sector. To develop as a resource center for training and capacity building especially in watershed management programmes and other related activities for field functionaries of GOs/NGOs. To design and implement rural livelihoods program in Rajasthan for enhancing Rural Economy. Having good contacts, liaison and working relationship with NGOs/GOs and other leading institutions working for the cause of rural development. As a resource center offer consultancy and training and capacity building support to government and other NGOs in the participatory technology development in NRM.

Objectives We work for the cause and care of deprived rural societies and improve their quality of life. Arpan Seva Sansthan is integrating its programs and services, and consciously moving from welfare towards development and long term sustainability for tribal and rural communities. Communitys active involvement and support in rural development program makes the program sustainable. Our major objectives involve: To improve the socioeconomic condition of the small and marginalized section of the community particularly tribal and women through various integrated rural development initiatives and innovations. To develop and implement poverty focus participatory approach in watershed development and water resource development program, which is sustainable and can be replicable to other areas of Rajasthan

To establish village base institutions such as society, saving and thrift credit group, SHGs etc for strengthening the process of participatory development in field of agriculture, health etc. To setup knowledge centre for the rural peoples in the areas of watershed development and other aspects of NRM base livelihoods. To promote organic production and their marketing in the area of agriculture. To built up the capacity of community for self-reliant so that they can be able to identify their problems and self develop the solution through team spirit.

Background It all started in late 1990s when a handful of youths consecrated themselves to a greater goal to serve society. And so the dream of their benevolence incarnated as 'Arpan Seva Sansthan', on the blessed day of March 29, 1996. Arpan Seva Sansthan is a non-profit organization, registered under Rajasthan Societies Registration Act, 1958. It was brought up in shape by young engineering graduates instigated by Shubh Karan Singh from College of Technology and Engineering, MPUAT, Udaipur; with a purpose of holistic rural development. He was influenced by Anna Hazare's philosophy of: 'The dream of India as a strong nation will not be realized without self-reliant, self-sufficient villages, this can be achieved only through social commitment & involvement of the common man.' He realised that 'the way of development of a nation, passes through villages. Keeping this in his mind, he ventured with his like minded colleagues and supporters, which is shaped in the form of the organization Arpan Seva Sansthan. Since its inception they had a dedication and commitment to serve a higher purpose of humanity. A sound background of Agricultural Engineering helped them carving out the problems and remedies with a greater perfection. It strikes us every moment that rural India needs attention and hence our team is putting in its every possible effort to get rural development to the mainstream. Today, after 14 years of struggle Arpan has become a family of 28 Multidisciplinary Development professionals who are striving towards a common goal of rural upliftment. We started with a step-by-step approach to serve those in need. We identified the deprived sections, the remedies that we can provide and started working. We pride ourselves with a dedicated team with a conviction to help and develop backward rural tribal sections. During the struggling phase of Arpan Seva Sansthan, our entire team willingly put in the higher efforts to get funding sources. With slow but steady financial back up, the organization came a

step ahead after few years. In year 2003 March, Arpan organized a National Environment Awareness Program with Seva Mandir as a Nodal Agency, in the village of Roba, Girwa Tehsil in Udaipur district. Water Conservation being the basic objective, we concentrate on issues like water pollution, hazards of chemical fertilizers & pesticides in farming, health, hygiene and sanitation. After a keen study and research on organic farming, organization introduced into the field with the support of local people. For the same purpose, a number of training programs and on farm demonstration were held which facilitated more than 30,000 farmers from around 22 districts. Foreward Arpan Signifies to deliver. Arpan means to give, to deliver and that is what we are committed to. We channelize our efforts for the betterment of society which gave us the potential to stand here. On behalf of our professional and dedicated 'Arpanites', we want to express our gratitude towards the society that made us what we are right now. We all share a common zeal to work for our fellow being, for the betterment of poor, deprived rural society and bring them into the mainstream. Swami Vivekanand and Chaudhary Charan Singh inspires me a lot. I myself hail from a rural back-ground hence I know about the factual condition of the Indian agriculture. I realized that however agriculture is the backbone of the Indian economy but its share is continuously decreasing and present condition is alarming. Eventually I also observed that there is a great potential to work in the rural development sector and NRM Base livelihoods. Arpan members did their education from Udaipur so they knew very well about the pain of rural community and understand the main reasons for backwardness of this area. This is the lack of awareness in rural areas about the new technologies and methods in different fields of rural livelihood so Arpan has emphasized on awareness creations in initial stage. They all faced many problems and battle with the pains of left the few members at initial stage but he never discourage and move on the path with a full of hopes.

I learnt about Ralegaon Siddhi that how single handed effort of an individual metamorphosed a barren village into a model village to be followed in rural development sector. I started my journey with Arpan Seva Sansthan, inspired by my teachers and elders. While working on various field works and projects relating to research during college period, we came in close touch with rural population of near by villages and districts of Udaipur. We observed that despite of the bountiful of natural resources; tribal are poor. The natural resources like forests, dams & vast minerals, available there are either neglected or not developed. And if at all they are developed somewhere, the benefits are exploited by the dominated class in society. Our major focus is this impoverished segment of our society. It has been rightly said that It implies that 'the way of development of a nation, passes through villages. The quotation strikes us and after visualizing the actual picture of rural India, we decided to devote our professional career for rural society. Today, after a couple of years of struggle Arpan has become a family of 28 Multidisciplinary Development professionals who are striving towards a common goal of rural upliftment. The real need should be fulfilled, in accordance with this principle, Arpan Seva Sansthan works with family focused and community based approach. Arpan seeks to inculcate confidence, awareness generation and capacity building of the community. Our experience of last few years says that the active participation of community in the rural development program makes the program sustainable. And hence, the basic objective of rural development becomes smoother if the matrix of an organization and community matches. That is why Arpan precisely works on the need based programs. Organizational Policy A Separate HR Department for the administrative purpose exists. Organization is having a Programme wise Systematized Recruitment System. Contractual as well as Confirmed Staff Policy exists. Internal Training & Development Policy for enhancement of efficiency of Staff. Organization has started the Provident fund and contributes the same amount of the regular staff. Organization is providing the facility like mileage, motor bike, telephone/mobile cost, D.A during travel and additional benefits like festivals allowances etc to the staff.

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT CELL Organization is having its own Training & Development Unit which provides On & Off Farm trainings to Internal as well as external agencies. Students from Esteemed Educational Institute like DA-IICT (Dhiru Bhai Ambani Institute of Information & Technology) Gandhinagar, Gujarat, Rajasthan College of Agriculture Udaipur, College of Technology & Engineering, Udaipur & Law University, Orissa regularly attend their Semester Training Programmes. Programs Strategically with defined family focused & need based approach, our team works in interior backward tribal area of Udaipur, Dungarpur and Banswara to develop linkages with rural societies and to identify the basic developmental issues. All the exercises are performed through a series of meetings, awareness campaigns, which resulted our one to one touch to 3000 tribal families in these districts. In the yr. 2003, Arpan organized a National Environment Awareness Programme, Seva Mandir as a Nodal Agency, in village Roba of Girwa tehsil in Udaipur district. Water Conservation as the basic objective of progamme and issues like water pollution, hazards of chemical fertilizers & pesticides in farming, health, hygiene & sanitation were also highlighted.

After a keen study and research on organic farming, organization vastly introduced into it. In continuation, no. of training programme & on farm demonstration were executed which have facilitated number of farmers of 22 districts till date. At the same time, the high need of Construction of Water Resources was identified to be used for domestic and agricultural usage. Southern Tribal Area of Rajasthan was having extensive potentiality in Water Resource Development. Tribal Area Development Department pursued financial support to the organization, in financial contribution & labour collaboration with village people constructed 37 Anicuts, revived 32 (old failed) Community Lift Irrigation schemes and started 28 new Community Lift Irrigation schemes in Udaipur, Pratapgarh, Banswara & Dungarpur districts of Rajasthan. Various Programmes are as under: Natural Resource Management (NRM) Water Conservation is important for domestic and agricultural usage. Southern Tribal of Rajasthan was having extensive potentiality in Water Resource Development. Arpan Seva Sansthan is functioning in tribal region which are distinguished as degraded for natural resources due to deforestation & at the same time are neglected as well. Worsening of natural resources in coincidence with poor agricultural practices have contributed to widespread ecological insecurity and low level of productivity of natural resources. However, local communities continue to be critically dependent on their land for livelihood. Under the Natural Resource Management programme, Arpan Seva Sansthan undertook following programmes: Community Lift Irrigation System, Water-shed Development Programme, Water Resource Management and Agricultural Extension. Above programmes were executed in functional areas during varied time intervals. Tribal Area Development Department supported Arpan Seva Sansthan in its Natural Resource Management programme. Under this programme; organization in collaboration with village people constructed more than 15 Anicuts and revived more than 50 (old failed) Community Lift Irrigation facilities. We also started around 18 new Community Lift Irrigation facilities in Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Banswara & Dungarpur districts of Rajasthan.

The basic objective behind Natural Resource Development Programme is to work with communities to improve livelihood security through range of interventions including: Community Lift Irrigation Schemes The most critical component for revival of any project is mobilization of the community. Unless the community participates at every level of revival and takes the ownership, it is very difficult for successful implementation of revival strategies Thus; Participatory Irrigation Management (PIM) has got widespread recognition in revival process of irrigation schemes. For effective monitoring and implementation of the revival process, ARPAN Seva Sansthan had placed in a strong Institutional Management system consisting of experienced managerial, technical, agriculture and social mobilization experts at all levels from central to operational level. Arpan Seva Sansthan has conducted a situational analysis on the Community Lift Irrigation schemes which were earlier installed by DRDA or other agencies and found that utmost of lifts were deceased. The design of lift is such that the whole command area divides into chacks & each chack covers 4-6 hectare area depending upon the topography. Each chack has one outlet. The command area of lift normally varies from 25 to 40 hectares. Cost benefit ratio comes to 1.5 to 2.5. Water Users Committee is strengthened and empowered by Social Mobilization efforts by organization so that they can manage their distribution system, Power Consumption, electricity bills and overall management. Outcomes: As an outcome of CLIS around 1280 households were benefited. It covered 1150 ha area irrigation facilities in Rabi and Zaid seasons. The cost of installation of lift has been recovered with the effective B.C. ratio of 1.5 2.50; within a period of three years. Arpan has provided the knowledge on improved agricultural practices, improved seed variety, vegetable cultivation, etc for extraction of maximum benefits from the crops. Migration has been controlled. Higher income generation led to development in better food habits and an increased number in school enrollment. After installation of lift an increase of 50%-150% in community income was seen. Water-shed Development Programs

Water is vital for survival, food security and sustainable livelihood of humans. Wherever, in India, only about 30-35% of the total rain water is utilized, and the rest is being wasted in floods, soil erosion and siltation of river beds and reservoirs. Generally, the poor farmers who own poor quality land lack even safe drinking water, water for irrigation is a far cry. Though, a massive watershed development programme has been launched in the country; still the poor need support of technology and resources to make better use of the water. Over 40% of the agricultural land in India is located in arid regions, and often, the farmers are not even able to recover their investments in agriculture. In other regions, where rainfall is moderate or high, the farmers are not able to make efficient use of the available water. Hence, this valuable asset has turned out to be a liability. Due to improper water resources management, over 25% of the villages are not able to provide year round water supply. Hence, ARPAN has taken up innovative projects by addressing water resource development to strive for desired objective of drinking water security, to boost agriculture & livestock production, particularly to benefit weaker sections of the community. Watershed is an area of land within which all the rainfall it receives feeds into a particular drainage channel. Under the Watershed Development Programme, all the land falling within the area is treated on the basis of soil & water conservation techniques. Major of them are plugging of drainage line by construction of check dams, gabions & masonry structures, constructing farm bunds & digging contour trenches on steeper land. After basic treatment of watershed, a variety of watershed - plus activities are taken up such as the promotion of improved farming systems, horticulture & animal husbandry. ARPAN is implementing a Watershed programme sponsored by Tribal Area Development Department in Jaipur, Dausa and Pratapgarh districts. The programme concentrates on treatment of approx 2500 Ha area which has benefitted 1500 Tribal families. Under Soil & Water Conservation activity 155 Gully Plugs, Loose Stone Check Dams, Dug out Ponds has been constructed. Trainings & Demonstration on Vermicomposting, Horti & Forestry Plantation, Pastureland Development, Crop Demonstration & SHG formation were executed. More than 45 Vermicomposting Units have been yet established. STRATEGY :

Community participation with special concentration on poor sections, in planning & implementation. Efficient Water Conservation with appropriate technologies & systems. Convergence for holistic development, particularly for food & water security, supply of drinking water, health & hygiene and environmental conservation.

Watershed Program resulted not only in a reduction in soil erosion and nutrients loss but also eased the supply of water protective irrigation. It demonstrated the potential of recharging the ground water table also. As a result of efficient recharging of groundwater a significant increase has been seen in crop production round the year for all the three seasonal crops. Training & Capacity building of Rural People under Watershed programme was also taken up by Arpan Seva Sansthan. Priority issues such as Horticulture, Agro forestry, Organic Farming through Vermi Composting, Nursery Development of Medicinal & Horti Plants, Kitchen Garden, Pasture Land Development, Health & Hygiene, Sanitation, Animal Husbandry, Seasonal Crop Demonstration, Natural Resource Management, Orientation Training to Water Users Group & other institutions, Training to Farmers Community Organization, Peoples Institutions (SHGs), have facilitated more than 80,000 people in project areas directly. Water Resource Management Water Resource Management has been undertaken to manage available water resources and enabling its usage in irrigation and other purposes. Greater part of land comes under Rain-fed area; farmers are backward and not able to get sufficient livelihood from their land. They have small landholding which is totally undulated. Tribal Area Development Department is working in this TSP region for their holistic development. ARPAN has collaborated with the tribal area development department and implemented many programmes like Revival and new installation of community lift irrigation schemes and renovation of old water resource in a short span of period. Arpan is working in 26 districts of Rajasthan supported by Rural Development Department Govt. of Rajasthan for Water Resource Management. Arpan under the financial support with Tribal Area Development department implemented many programmes like revival and installation of community lift irrigation schemes and renovation of old water resource in a short span of period in Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Banswara & Dungarpur districts of Rajasthan. With the

financial contribution & labour collaboration of village people, Arpan has successfully constructed 30 Anicuts so far. More 8000 poor tribal households in 26 villages are advantaged through this. As a result of construction of anicuts and irrigation systems the cropping pattern has changed favorably & irrigated land has been increased & more than 80 wells have recharged, which has benefited thousands of farmer families. We have successfully implemented several projects in a short span of two years with quality and cost effectiveness. TAD appreciated Arpan for the achievement. Agricultural Extension SMILE Programme A large number of rural communities, we work with, are engaged in agriculture. Land is their crucial source of livelihood and agricultural productivity is generally low attributing to several factors. Major reasons are low fertility of land, lack of sufficient water for irrigation, limited resources to meet input requirements and inadequate knowledge about improved crop production. Project intervention in the form of support for inputs like seed and fertilizer combined with arrangement for irrigation and tillage results in an immediate increase in output. However, such gains may not be sustained over a longer term. Thus, we emphasized on introducing sustainable farming technologies that farmers can practice even after the completion of sponsored projects. The program was started in three Tribal dominated districts, Udaipur, Banswara, Chittorgarh and Pratapgarh with the financial assistance of Tribal Area Development Department (TADD). We encouraged 835 BPL ST families to scientifically raise vegetable saplings and produce healthy vegetable crops. Each preferred family is provided with a Kit of vegetable seeds for all seasons. Exercise on vegetable nurseries was provided to farmers. 1000 sq. mtr of each family filed has been used where they were growing only Maize, Wheat & Gram respectively in Kharif & Rabi season. Earlier the production was so low which could not even fulfill their grain requirement for an year. It was calculated that a farmer can hardly get 2 bags of Maize in Kharif season from its 1000 sq. meter area whose market worth is only Rs. 1400. Now they cultivate grains and vegetables worth Rs. 15000 20000 for an year. Along with routine crops, farmers were also introduced with cultivation of fruit plants such as lemon and papaya for gap filling in fields. It also enabled them additional income generation.

Water Conservation through Drip Irrigation System has also been installed in plots of farmers. A plastic bucket of 300 liters having its connectivity with Dripping Pipe Line utilizes water efficiently so that the wastage has also been reduced and at the same time electricity consumption of driving water pump daily is also truncated. Cropping of seasonal vegetable has changed the economy of farmer and the income band is also significantly increased. Horticulture ARPAN Seva Sansthan executes Horticulture Development Programme commonly known as WADI Programme since 2007 in Bundi, Jaipur & Pratapgarh. Nine hundred and nineteen Orchards have been planted, with the help of BPL(below poverty line) ST(scheduled tribes) families. The basic objective was their economic uplifting, which is monetarily assisted by Tribal Area Development Department, for the duration of five years. The fundamental intent of the programme is: Farmer should use his own available Natural Resources for the Development of the area. To renovate the Wasteland available with farmer into Cultivable land so as to earn from Crops and Fruit Plants. To motivate and generate awareness among farmers about Improved Agriculture Practices. Foremost activities the programme is covering are: Model of 30 AMLA/ GUAVA with 150 forestry across the boundary of 0.5 to 1 ha area along with Improved Seeds, Fertilizers is developed. Supporting technical on & off farm trainings to farmers for different aspects related to line sowing, irrigation time & techniques, diseases & their medicines. OUTCOME It is proven that after a period of 8-10 years a farmer can easily earn Rs. 25,000-30,000 yearly from a single orchard.

ACHIEVEMENTS After second year, the average survival of Horti & Forestry Plants in Orchards is above 85% which is highly appreciable by Govt. officials, NGOs & other agencies. According to the project financial guidelines we have made the expenditure of Rs. 85 lacs within the expected time duration. NABARD Team had also appreciated a lot and after a field visit our proposed 7 years Programme on Livelihood has also been sanctioned. Poverty Alleviation Rashtriya Sam Vikas Yojna (RSVY) Poverty in Indian rural community can be attributed to recurring droughts, unsustainable agriculture, absence of water or inadequate irrigation facilities due to under developed local water resources and ensuing virtually no scope for diversification in agriculture. For a better scope of water resources development that results in advancement of agriculture, horticulture

and allied development requires more than 800 mm average annual rainfall, but in the working area availability of such area is scarce. The district Banswara is quite backward and extremely poor. It has only about 9.20 % of total area (20.56 % total arable land) under irrigation, which is very low as compared to other districts. Nearly 73% of total rural households of Banswara District live Below Poverty Line (BPL). The district ranks 26th in HDI and 24th in GDI out of 32 districts in the state. However, the region has a great potential for the development of water resources, if utilized properly, it may substantially improve the living conditions of the rural poor, particularly, small and marginal tribal farmers. RSVY programme aims to improve the conditions of the rural and tribal people of the district Banswara by utilizing the available local resources. The objective behind the project is to achieve sustainable improvement in the living standards of the poor tribal through natural resources development. Project area roofed most backward 60 tribal villages in the predominantly 4 tribal blocks of Banswara covering 3000 families. Cluster Development Programme Its an Income Generation project supported by DIC, Rajasthan. Department of Industries, Government of Rajasthan, recognized this need and included as a Terracotta Cluster and Stone Cluster under Rajasthan Cluster Development Programme. Arpan Seva Sansthan is implementing Terracotta project for the duration of three years. In Sirohi district we are supporting two clusters for the same. Stone Cluster, Pindwara is promoting more than 3000 artisans in 30 villages. Terracotta cluster is to promote group of Tribal Women Artisans where project is covering 500 Tribal Women Artisans of 10 villages under Siyava cluster of district Sirohi. Cluster Development programme includes developing local unskilled & semi skilled artisans into skilled ones via Training & Workshops. Organization has promoted artisans to attend different State & National level Fares & Buyers sellers Meet so as to maximize sales & promote their products. The basic objective of Cluster Development Projects is to make efforts in direction for holistic development of cluster and to make Tribal men & women artisans as self sustainable entrepreneur.

Siyava cluster promotes Tribal Women Artisans. The programme includes developing local unskilled & semi skilled artisans into skilled ones. Major Objectives: To develop them so as to enhance their personal earnings and Social Status. To create additional opportunities in cluster area. To strengthen the capacity of the artisans in field of technology, market and business development. Develop an enabling environment in cluster area for accelerating growth of units. Facilitate the tribal women to become independent entrepreneur. Building institutional capacities of the tribal artisan of cluster. 9 motivation seminars have been conducted for 450 Women Artisans in Cluster. 18 Self Help Groups have been formed which includes 107 female artisans. Artisan Credit Cards of 25 Artisans have been completed. 5 Skill Up-gradation Programme by Master trainer have been organized which directly benefited 100 Women Artisans. Marketing Promotional Activities Round the year Self Help Groups have attended 5 different National and International Sellers Buyers Meet at Cluster Creations Jodhpur and Jaipur, IITF New Delhi, Shilpgram Udaipur and an International Meet in Italy and sold their products tentatively about Rs. 16.01 LACS and collected orders of Rs. 46.02 LACS Many Exporters from Jaipur, Delhi, TRIFED and National Handloom Jodhpur had visited stalls in Exhibition and continuing delivering orders regularly. Activities Performed

It is remarkable that 2 Self Help Groups from Terracotta Cluster have been identified by NABARD Mumbai at National to attend the Trade Fare cum Sellers Buyer Meet at Mumbai. Two artisans from Siyava Mitti Shilp Self Help Group were identified to attend International Sellers Buyers Meet in ITALY organized by the Rural Development Department Government of India, where we have send two Female Artisans from this SHG which is a incredible triumph for all of us.

Health and Sanitation Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) Arpan Seva Sansthan is working for the health and safety of tribal community. Precaution is always better than cure. A good health is attributed to clean water, hygiene and sanitation. Safe drinking water and adequate sanitation facilities ensure the community health parameters. The organization has undertaken Total Sanitation Programme operating in district Jhunjhunu. The sole objective of this programme is to bring about an improvement in the general quality of life in the rural areas, accelerate sanitation coverage in rural areas, and generate required sanitation facilities through awareness creation and health education. TSC is implemented through schools and Anganwadis in rural areas. We promote sanitation facilities and hygienic education and improve the sanitation habits among students. We encourage cost effective and appropriate technologies in Sanitation. Programme also included elimination of open defection so as to minimize risk of contamination of drinking water sources and food. We sponsored to convert dry latrines to pour flush latrines and eliminate manual scavenging practice from rural areas. HIV/AIDS TARGETED INTERVENTION PROGRAMME, DISTRICT CHITTORGARH The Targeted Intervention programme is sponsored by Rajasthan State Aids Control Society (RSACS) was started in district Chittorgarh in the Month of December, 2008. The main objective of our organization is to halt and reverse the tide of the HIV epidemic in India. Arpan Seva Sansthan follows the basic objective to reduce level of infections and prevent spread of HIV from High Risk Groups (HRGs) to the general populations. Under the said Targeted Intervention Programme we targeted 300 Female Sex Workers (FSWs) and 170 Injected Drug Users (IDUs).

Objectives Along with the other objectives we endeavor to: Develop safe sexual behaviors and attitudes particularly among the FSWs (Female Sex Workers) under particular focus on most affected regions. It also aims to ensure that people infected and affected with HIV get easy access to a comprehensive package of services that include prevention, care, support and treatment. The objective behind the Programme may be summarized as follows: Identifying sub-populations with high risk behavior Identifying specific behavior in need of change Providing indicators to monitor programmes success and identifying persistent problem areas Working as an advocacy and policy tool

Activities Accomplished Following are the activities accomplished under this programme: Series of awareness programmes, Behavioral Change Communication Programmes have been organized with our targeted population. Drop in Center (DIC) has been executed which is having all recreation facilities like Audio Visual equipments for the entertainment of Target population as they are coming regularly. A small library for reading different books and novels based on Women especially. A training of all Peer Educators has been organized where each Peer Educator has been given a task or might be said as Target to identify and enroll tentative 40 FSWs at their earliest and today all of them are endeavoring speedily to achieve the targeted group. A Community Mobilization Programme as a formal get together cum entertaining group event with identified (50) FSWs was also organized on 26th JAN 2009 at Chittorgarh Fort. During the programme, one to one interaction, group discussions, playing games, dance, and songs were performed by FSWs in collaboration with ARPAN Chittor team. Organized a one day proposed District level workshop on NETWORKING and a one day Workshop on Advocacy. The basic objective behind organizing the workshop was to explore our programme in Chittorgarh district and to make a network and advocate the related Government departments and other concerns. Participants in the workshop

were: CMHO, Block CMHO (6 blocks), District Education Officer, Social Workers, Representative Aditya Birla Cement, Print Media (Patrika, Bhaskar, Dainik Navjyoti), Electronic Media ( 2 Local Channels), PRO, Zila Pradhan, Ayurveda Officer, President Global Heart Foundation, District Project Manager- NRHM, Incharge Blood Bank, Representatives from different NGOs 6 Health Camps have been organized which has directly benefited 800 women who got treatment over there. Puppet show was also demonstrated, to give a Social message regarding Family Planning, Vaccination, Health Education, Safe Delivery and STD and lastly especially on HIV/ AIDS. In a chain of community events Holi Milan was celebrated with a group of 80-85 FSWs in a Public Park. FSWs belonging to different religion also celebrated the festival of colors and enjoyed the programme. For promotion of Safer Sex, 50 Condom Outlets/ Depots have been arranged where Condom Boxes are installed. Vermicomposting Wastes constitutes organic matter which can be utilized by properly composting it into a valueadded end product called manure. The chief objective is to compost organic wastes not for the disposal of solid organic wastes but also to produce superior quality manure to feed our nutrient/organic matter hungry soils. Arpan Seva Sansthan has offered its valuable contribution for Organic Farming. It is organizational experience that if every village can formulate a cooperative society of unemployed youth/women group, it could be a wise venture for them to produce Vermicompost and sell it back to the village at a recommended price. Organic wastes can be broken down and fragmented rapidly by earthworms, resulting in a stable nontoxic material with good structure, which has a potentially high economic value and also act as soil conditioner for plant growth. More than 15000 farmers under around 300 Watersheds have been yet benefited. Training to Farmers Community Organization, Peoples Institutions (SHGs) have facilitated more than 80,000 people under 25 districts of Rajasthan directly. The capacity and efficiency of farmer has build up & awareness of stake holders of watershed has been increased. No. of SHGs formed- 350 No. of SHGs linked with banks 99 Exposure Exposure tour is an important and effective method to spread awareness in rural community on watershed development program. Through exposure trips user groups were demonstrated effectively the usefulness of appropriate technologies which have been successfully experimented. It also exhibited the effectiveness of appropriate technologies for socio-economic development of the people, particularly for the upliftment of their living conditions. It helped farmers get themselves oriented regarding new innovations and variety of improved technologies and update as well as replicate the same in their own farms and on others in their villages.

Training Under SGSY Scheme ARPAN has supported basic orientation training to 150 SHGs including 1800 participants of district Banswara under SGSY programme. The center of attention of the training program was emphasized on formulation of groups, functioning, record keeping, financial management, bank linkages, strengthening, capacity building and long lasting survival of groups. People's Organization The People's Organization aims to empower the grassroots community, raise their voices and support themselves. Prople's Organizations supports self-help and other efforts to improve conditions in their respective communities. These groups are democratic and engage people from all sections of the community to manage the development efforts, as well as figure out how to obtain the resources needed, locally if possible. Peoples Organization (PO) is a group of all those families who live in project villages & who are the participants (essentially) of any project, to change their economic status through various activities. After adoption of the project activities, these families have simultaneously started making contribution in a common fund of Peoples Organization. Different type of Peoples Organization were supported in different projects viz. Self Help Groups (Women), Self Help Group (Men) & Users Committee. Such groups of rural poor who have volunteered to organize themselves for eradication of poverty of the members.

All the existing groups are having a code of conduct (Group management norms) to bind itself which enables regular monthly meetings, functioning in a democratic manner, allowing free exchange of views, participation by the members in the decision making process. The members are steadily building their corpus through regular savings. They collect the minimum voluntary saving amount from all the members regularly in the group meetings. The savings so collected is kept as group corpus fund. The group corpus fund is somehow now been used in advance loans to the members, whose financial management norms covering the loan sanction procedure, repayment schedule and interest rates are maintained by themselves. The members in the group meetings takes all the loaning decisions through a participatory decision making process. Every group is maintaining the simple basic records such as Minutes book, Attendance register, Loan ledger, General ledger, Cash book and individual passbooks.

Awards and Achievements

Being our versatility in Agriculture & NRM issue, Arpan has organized several off farm and on farm trainings to ensure optimum awareness and attain to organic farming. Use of dead CLIs after revival resulted increase in per capital income of the farmers. Construction of new anicuts makes the farmers in getting essential production and availability of water for crop irrigation. Water users associations are created for each structure for judicious use of water and post management of the structures. Water users association is the soul of the structure and well functioning association ensure the sustainability of the structure. Some of our professionals are also being a part in several research studies on watershed management funded by Government

of India and Bilateral Organization. At the same time Arpan has secured second position as a Master Trainer on NRM by Zila Parishad.
