When the Grimlords
wanted to have an event,
they decided to have it where
they had already enjoyed
their own family times.
Plainview Lake, just east of
Tornillo, has been a favorite
destination of Tavo and the
rest of the Socorro based
Grimlords. “For many years,
we’ve enjoyed the hospitality
of Armando and Yvonne (the
owners of the lake). We go
out there every summer and
camp out. When we started
talking about hosting our
own run, we started talking
about how the lake would be
a great place for it,” says
Tavo Morales, Grimlord
president.

run up and running, but it

 How To Get Your Motorcycle License

If you're thinking about driving
a motorcycle for the first time
this year, you better think about
whether or not you can legally
do so first. In order to legally
ride a motorcycle, you have to
have either a motorcycle permit
or a motorcycle license. Here
are the options that you have for
getting a motorcycle license.

Before you can do either
though, you have to get a mo-
torcycle permit which allows
you to legally ride a motorcycle
on learning/instructional basis.
This permit is not a full fledged
license so there are limitations
on your driving. For example,
you can't drive a motorcycle
with a passenger on board. If
you have any questions about
the limitations you face with
permit, check the rules and reg-
ulations within your state.
The Motorcycle Safety Course
If you've never driven a motor-
cycle before and feel that you
would benefit from learning im-
portant rider skills and safety
tips, then perhaps the rider
course is the way to go. This
type of course is typically held
at a local technical college, or
their may be held at local busi-
nesses. Check around in your
area if you cannot find one at a
local college. If you live in a
bigger city, you will probably
have more luck finding one.
During the safety course you
will learn many new driving
skills that will help you become
a better driver in real life. Not
only that, but you will also learn
many different safety tips and
techniques that will help make
you safer on the road and more
aware of your surroundings
while driving.
Upon successful completion of
the rider course, you will be
presented with you motorcycle
license and you will be free to
ride wherever and whenever
you like.
The Motorcycle Rider Test
If you don't want to mess with
taking a rider course because
you feel you are experienced
enough as it is, then you can go
straight to taking your rider test
with the local department of
transportation in your state. One
thing worth mentioning is that
many states are eliminating the
rider test, ultimately forcing you
to go through a rider course in
order to get your license.
Typically there will be a written
portion of the test and then an
actually driving portion of the
rider test. In order to get your li-
cense you will have to pass both
portions. During the rider test
you will be evaluated on a num-
ber of different riding skills
such as starting, braking, signal-
ing, turning, speed, awareness,
and motorcycle handling in cer-
tain types of specialized turns.

their gear. The helmet is cer-
tainly no exception, which is
why many riders really don't
care what it looks like on the
inside as long as it looks good
on the outside. Unfortunately
this isn't the right attitude to
have when it comes to your
helmet. Safety should always
be your number one priority.
Finally, you might want to in-
spect the materials used to
make the supposed smallest
half helmet before you pur-
chase it. There may be some
instances where manufactur-
ers will skim on the materials
used to make the helmets just
to make them smaller. This
means that the outer shell
might be thinner than normal.
Again, this isn't going to
make the safest helmet for the
rider. Instead, look for hel-
mets that have thick polycar-
bonate shells that will hold
strong against high impact
pressure.
The next time you shop for a
helmet, ask yourself whether
or not you are willing to sacri-
fice your safety for the ap-
pearance. This might help you
make your decision when
considering which one to buy.

We are all aware of the fact
that riding a motorcycle is a
dangerous activity. One thing
that many fail to realize is that
half the battle for the motorcy-
cle riders is protecting them-
selves from other drivers on
the road. Here are some tips
that can help you protect your-
self from harm caused by
other vehicle operators.
Lighting
One of the best things you can
do, from an equipment stand-
point, to protect yourself

threat of one is present. Avoid
daydreaming while riding be-
cause this will only put your-
self in harms way.
Knowing what you are doing
and what others could do
while driving increases your
ability to make quick deci-
sions in the heat of the mo-
ment. If you feel that you sim-
ply cannot be as attentive or
aware of what is going on
around you because you are
too tired or simply are too dis-
tracted when driving for what-
ever reason, then perhaps you
should think twice about rid-
ing your motorcycle.
Drive Defensively
One thing you don't want to do
when riding a motorcycle is
drive too recklessly or at ex-
cessive speeds far beyond
your safe handling abilities.
This will only put you at risk
of getting into a crash. Offen-
sive driving simply is not a
smart way to operate a motor-
cycle in any situation. Instead,
take more of a defensive ap-
proach to driving. This will
allow you to take more control
over your motorcycle as well
as the driving situations that
you might be in.

There are many things taking place around us, for some it may
be life changing for others, inspiring. Whatever the case may be
it helps shape us as individuals. What does this have to do with
motorcycles, you might ask? Being exposed to motorcycles, by
family members, has led Larry Ayoub to experience first hand
why they love taking part in motorcycle activities, as well as di-

torcycle. He originally bought the bike black and through the
five years he’s been riding this black beauty, he has added his
personal touches to the bike. The custom Oriental Blue flames
give the bike an added “punch,” while keeping it from being too
over the top. Taking the pictures in the studio, did not give the
paint job any justice, after seeing Larry ride in, as it glistened
under the sunlight.
Future plans, Ayoub has for the bike is adding air suspension;
which will give the bike a slicker look when parked, but give an
overall better ride for those long cruises. Ayoub cannot take his
Harley out everyday, so weekends are his favorite days of the
week. Working two demanding jobs now-a-days is something
common with most people, so Ayoub tries to spend some of his
free time riding, helping him forget his troubles from the week-
days.
Larry’s exposure to motorcycles has given him the chance to
free his mind from his work week and put worth his hard work
into his bike, which he could enjoy riding along with his father
and his uncles. From local gatherings, to weekend cruises out of
town, Larry Ayoub understands the saying, “Work hard, Play
hard.”
