Circle the sentences that have cause-and- cffact statements. Dic you know that hurricanes can cause wildfires? Every year there are a few months when wildfires occur, but 2011 was an “extreme fire season.” In 2070, we had the worst rainy season on record. Hurricane Alex flooded northern Mexico, and heavy rains in southern ‘Mexico caused flooding, too. This extra rain made the grass grow more than usual. In the dry season, the extra grass gave more fuel to the wildfires. Forest fire teams tried to put out the fires, but it was impossible. By May 2011, thousands of acres of grasslands were burned. The next rainy season finally extinguished the last of the wildfires. What does this tellus about the weather? Its all connected. If there is a hurricane, there will be more rain. I there is ‘more rain, more grass will grow. When the grass dries, there may be more fuel for wildfires. If there is along, hot, dry season, there might be bigger wildfires. 4% B Work in a small group. Identity the cause-and-effect statements from the reading.
