personalized, in-depth surgical teaching

Informal Teaching

1981-83 Daily ward rounds with house staff (average one hour daily) to see all
patients and discuss difficult cases
1981-83 Operating Room Teaching - each patient at the University discussed with
the intern or resident preoperatively as well as postoperatively and
the house officer supervised during the operative procedure.
1984-85 Operating Room and Clinical Teaching - sessions with UCSF residents at
San Francisco General Hospital
1985-present Operating Room and Clinical Teaching - two weeks of intensive teaching
(approx. 60 hours weekly) of plastic surgery residents in the care
of patients with major defects, particularly congenital anomalies, at
the Hospital de la Familia, Neuvo Progreso, Guatemala
1992 Operating Room and Clinical Teaching, at the EMCO clinic in Salzburg,
Austria;  and at the University of Riga in Latvia and Charles
