Operations Superintendent
As Operations Superintendent I manage the ARU/AU2/ISOM/NDU operating areas of th
e refinery, and have responsibility for overall operation of these asset includi
ng safety and environmental performance, delivery of production goals, managing
spending, and developing improvement concepts.
Current Roles & Responsibilities:
*Serve as the single point of accountability for area safety and environmental p
erformance.
*Generate daily unit operating instructions in coordination with the refinery op
erating plan. Work with other Superintendents and planners to optimize refinery
economic performance. Communicate and resolve area issues that impact the abilit
y to meet plan targets.
*Identify key drivers to area availability and energy performance, and work with
the appropriate technical staff to develop improvement and monitoring plans.
*Develop career growth plans for team members.
*Insure the area team is aligned by providing clear written and verbal communica
tion around critical issues.
*Establish a high performance culture by setting appropriate priorities for the
team, encouraging thinking outside of specific areas of responsibility, and prov
iding clear expectations and feedback on performance.

Hydrocarbon Loss Coordinator

Texas City Refinery is keenly focused on achieving and sustaining significant bo


ttom line improvement (~$9 million/year) from reduced Hydrocarbon Losses and imp
roving and sustaining it every year. The site has generated a strategy for achie
ving these goals and it was my job to consolidate, coordinate and be a guiding f
orce in a cross functional team that addressed the many and varied aspects of hy
drocarbon loss. These included issues related to metering, flaring, inventory we
ight balance, slop control, and identification of both controllable and uncontro
llable losses.
In the role of Hydrocarbon Loss Coordinator it was my responsibility to engage p
eople on site to achieve aggressive improvement targets. My assignment was a tec
hnical position, organizationally in the Commercial Division, and it was critica
l to understand the dynamics of the site, work with engineering, maintenance and
operations employees but also work directly with the accounting and commercial
interests in the business unit.
As part of the Commercial Team of the Refinery, it was my responsibility to achi
eve both short term and sustainable long-term improvement that not only impacted
both the bottom line of the business, but also the working capital via better i
nventory control.

Supervise and lead the outside operator Asset Management team, whose primary obj
ective is to achieve the safe, reliable, and environmentally sound operations of
their assigned process units through proactive and planned maintenance, adheren
ce to established procedures, Process Safety Standards and Good Practices, devel
opment of the ability to anticipate operational
problems in advance and/or respond to problems quickly, and adoption of a cultur
e of continuous improvement. This includes:
* Adherence to and championing unit safety and environmental performance and sta
ndards.
* Assuring quality unit operation and utilization.
* Provision of fast, reliable outside operations service as needed by board oper
ator to implement plan.
* Development of outside operator's skills.
* Integration and communication with the Plant Optimization team to ensure there
is good coordination of current economics with current unit capabilities.
