Project Safety Manager
Acted as Project Safety Manager for Construction Company. Conducted daily safety
audits of the Construction site, encompassing all aspects of the construction p
rocess. Conducted daily safety meetings and provided forklift and man lift train
ing to authorize operation of these pieces of equipment. Responsible for all asp
ects of the site safety program. Conducted investigations and provided written r
eports of all safety incidents. Results: Achieved zero recordable injuries and z
ero first aid injuries during course of the construction project. (25,000 plus m
an hours).
ABS Consulting Houston, Texas 2007 to
2008
Safety Consultant
Acted as Safety Consultant for oil refinery terminals, chemical plants and petro
chemical companies. Identified and provided programs to assist in implementing
process safety management criteria for refineries and chemical plants. Assisted
oil refineries in preparing for National Emphasis Program (NEP) audits to be con
ducted by OSHA. Conducted PSM audits for natural gas plants and refineries, assi
sted in development of policies and procedures at oil refineries. Developed comp
rehensive safety handbook, wrote initial policies and procedures, provided initi
al training and developed and implemented comprehensive health and safety progra
m for all major ABS Consulting offices in the United States.
Safety Consultant Pearland, Texas 2005
to 2007
Acted as Safety Representative for oil refinery terminals. Representing catalyst
removal companies and tower field service companies. Also represented roofing
construction companies during reconstruction in Gulfport, Miss. Naval Seabee bas
e. Conducted safety meetings, completed safety audits, provided all training in
cluding confined space entry, fall protection, personal protective equipment req
uirements, forklift safety training, respiratory training, fit testing and audit
process for all clients. Results: Achieved zero recordable injuries during tur
n-arounds and zero recordable injuries during reconstruction.
Port of Houston Authority Houston, Texas 2000 to
2005
Safety Manager
Drafted, edited, implemented and provided complete training for Policy / Procedu
re Handbook. Identified necessity for health and safety program for organization
that had no program in place. Developed comprehensive handbook, wrote initial p
olicies and procedures, formed health and safety committees at two locations to
review proposed policies / procedures, provided all training and incorporated an
internal self-assessment process to evaluate progress of newly developed health
and safety program. Results: Reduced recordable injuries by 51% over four year
period and reduced overall Workers Compensation costs by 58% over same four year
period.
Drafted, edited, implemented and provided training for Employee Safety Handbook.
Developed and distributed Employee Safety Handbook to all employees, formed Hea
lth and Safety Committee to provide feedback and interaction with upper manageme
nt, developed and incorporated area safety audit program to track results of Saf
ety Handbook. Results: Reduced recordable injuries 26% over two year period, inc
reased both employee and management participation in health and safety program,
and reduced Workers Compensation costs 28% over two year period.
