Sunday, March 27, 10:30 AM Third Sunday in Lent (Scriptures: Exodus 17:1-7;
Psalm 95; Romans 5:1-11; John 4:5-42)
Journey to the Cross is a powerfully moving, multisensory family event that guides you
along the path that Jesus walked during his last days on Earth. Activities focused on Jesus’ love
and forgiveness demonstrate the real meaning of Easter: our risen Christ’s victory over death!
Designed specifically for parents and their children to experience together, this event teaches
about the life-changing message of the cross in a way that everyone can understand and no one
will forget. Come join us and begin your journey.~
Beginning in April, we will volunteer at the new Food Bank location at 2401 Alu-
minum Drive in Hampton. It is on the corner of Aberdeen and Aluminum Drive in
Copeland Industrial Park. It is across from Wendy’s. The telephone number will
remain the same 757-596-7188.
S.H.A.R.E.
April 2011 S.H.A.R.E. order can be placed the week of
March 28-April 1, 2011. The order will be placed on
Monday, April 4 at 10:00 AM and will be distributed in the
Narthex area of Denbigh Presbyterian Church on Saturday,
April 16 from 7:00-7:30 AM. All orders must be picked
up by 7:30 AM. Volunteers cannot be held responsible for
orders which are not picked up.
PORT Homeless shelter concluded this week! Thank you to all volunteers, members of the
church and partner churches for helping to make this a great week. We fed an average of 70
guests per night and sent guests on their way each morning with lunch. On the last day of the
ministry we passed out hygiene kits to help throughout the summer months when shelters such
as this are no longer available. Pictures below are of the youth making hygiene kits and
lunches for out PORT guests. Thank you all! Please continue to keep this ministry in your
prayers.
The Peninsula Pastoral Counseling Center's 2011 Banquet and Benefit Auction will be on

event is from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and features a silent auction, dinner and live auction.
Tickets are $65. This is the Center's major fundraising event for the Client Assistance Fund.
Peninsula Pastoral Counseling Center is a nonprofit organization that offers professional coun-
seling and consulting in a faith context.
Are You In Need of Support and Counseling? Trained to integrate the gifts of behavior sci-
ence and faith, the counselors at Peninsula Pastoral Counseling Center (PPCC) care for people
who are dealing with marriage or family tensions, anxiety, depression, spiritual distress, work-
place issues and other concerns. PPCC treats adults, adolescents and children and works
within the financial means of its clients. The Counseling Center hopes to help people to be
more at peace with themselves and with each other. In times of stress and in times of growth,
feel free to call PPCC at 873-2273.
Thank you to PODS for your help and support in the renovation project currently being done
by Denbigh Presbyterian Church. The use of the POD storage unit, free of charge, during this
project is a great help. Sincerely,

HOME RENOVATION PROGRESS REPORT – MARCH 16, 2011 6
Our God continues to supply us with opportunities to serve. The renovation of the home in
the Denbigh community is moving along slowly but steadily. A new hot water heater was in-
stalled in February 2010 but it was not until the fall of 2010 that it was decided to move forward
with an extensive renovation of the entire home. Due to the cold weather of December, January
and early February many tasks could not be carried out and so there was slow progress during that
time period. This worked out well since it provided time to source the huge variety and quantity
of materials needed.
During those recent cold months some work was carried out inside the unit such as replac-
ing a toilet and other plumbing issues. A friend of the church gave a dishwasher and it was in-
stalled. Three interior doors were hung and some electrical problems were resolved. Three clos-
ets were framed out and the subfloor in one bathroom was replaced.
Many things began to happen around mid-February. An anonymous donor provided a heat
pump system and it, along with new ducting, was installed by Tommy Garner Air-conditioning
and Heating. Mr. Garner also provided a bathroom cabinet complete with sink, faucet and drain
and several vinyl windows. The windows are in place now and are making a huge difference in
comfort and reduced heating bills for the family.
Gault Electric LLC provided and installed a new electrical panel with circuit breakers to
handle the heat pump and resolve some improper wiring in the old panel. The Elmer Back Gifting
Center supplied a new vacuum cleaner and a cabinet for the second bathroom. This cabinet was
without a countertop so Brunk Tile and Interiors gave the necessary materials to build a tile coun-
tertop. Sherwin-Williams Newport News-Denbigh has given paint and the family has painted the
ceilings throughout the home. We anticipate they will be giving more too! A number of individu-
als have donated various materials such as doors, faucets, plumbing supplies, wood trim and furni-
ture. Storage problems were resolved when we acquired a storage unit from PODS and it certainly
has been put to good use.
It has been absolutely amazing how God has been involved in this effort. From the outset it
was obvious that there was no way our church could come up with the funds for this multi-
thousand dollar project. But God has stepped in. He has brought many caring individuals to come
forward with donations of materials and funds. Just today I learned of someone who will supply
the remaining six windows and may have a lead on the vinyl siding! Our God is indeed an awe-
some God!
There is still much work ahead. Two exterior doors will be replaced as well as the six re-
maining windows. The whole house will be stripped of its siding and replaced with new siding.
Most of the wood paneling will be taken down and new paneling put in its place with insulation
added in the exterior walls where necessary. Then wood trim goes in to supply the finishing touch
to the walls. Flooring throughout the entire unit will finish up the inside. Last of all will be the
replacement of the underpinning and badly deteriorated wood deck.
The active workers so far include Jay Dunn, Bev Daniels, Franz Thiessen, Bob Murphy,
Keith Pennell, Jan Spruill and Blair Gloss. If you would like to join the effort please contact Keith
Pennell at 877-3119. The team also welcomes monetary donations to the cause. They may be
designated to Home Renovation.
The last point to address is money spent. The expenditures so far total $723. These funds
came from fund raising (the Denbigh Doers and the dessert auction), donations of members and
friends of DPC and the Outreach Committee budget.

CHURCH BUDGET
The Men of the Church will gather the evening of April 4, 2011 at 6:30 PM in the Fellow-
ship Room for dinner and a program. Dinner will be prepared and served by the Women of the
Church. Dr. Sel Harris, Pastor of Kings Grant Presbyterian Church, Virginia Beach, and an ex-
pert on religions of the Middle East, will discuss the past, present and future of Christianity in
this region of the world. Sign-ups can be made at the kitchen counter before or following Sun-
day church service.
One Great Hour of Sharing: All around us we see needs resulting from natural
disasters, poverty and economic downturns. How can we hope to help so many
people who are in distress? As a church, we want to express God’s love to those
around us in practical ways, as well as to share the gospel of Christ. One Great
Hour of Sharing is the offering that enables us to reach out to those less fortunate
both in the U.S. and abroad. This offering supports aid though Presbyterian or-
ganizations providing food, disaster relief and other needs. For example, Presby-
terian organizations are providing assistance in Haiti to provide clean water, food
and medical assistance following last year’s earthquake. Please be generous in
your support of our church’s work though this ministry by giving on Palm
Sunday, April 17.
Gideon Offering
Gideon’s International emphasis was on Sunday, February 27. Mr. Hilton Jones updated our
congregation on the work of the Gideons around the world. We contributed $134.00 to this
ministry.

SUNDAY SCHOOL
Join us at 9:15 AM for FUN and FELLOWSHIP while learning about our FAITH!
What’s going on in Sunday School?
Our combined Sunday School class is on a Bible Quest, looking at various stories of the Bible
and seeing how the scriptures apply to our lives today.
The class is also learning how to play Tone Chimes with our music director, Kelly Samarzea.
The children and youth are sharing their new talents during various worship services in the
month of March.
Children/Youth of all ages are welcome!
On Saturday, April 30, we will meet at DPC at 8:00 AM and carpool to Zuni. HS youth and
rising 9th graders will run the bake sale booth for the event which is hosted by Presbyte-
rian Homes and Family Services. Be sure to bring spending money since there are games,
food, raffles, etc. We will return to DPC around 4:00 PM.
******All HS youth, whether attending or not, are asked to provide individually wrapped
baked goods for the sale. They do not have to be homemade. Please place them on the
kitchen counter on Friday, April 29.
During the month of April our three year old classes will have a visit from the Virginia
Zoo. A representative of the zoo will present a program entitled “Eyes, Ears, and Noses.” It
will teach the children about how animals use their senses to help them survive in the wild.
Our students in these classes recently spent time exploring with and learning about their own
five senses, so this program should be a fun way to reinforce this learning.
DPPK families continue to support the ministries of DPC. During the month of March,
our students contributed 58 items to the food pantry, donated items for the PORT hygiene kits
and one family also made a financial contribution toward the bagged lunch program for PORT.
The school will be closed April 4-8 for Spring Break. Our school year is winding down,
but we have a lot more fun and learning to do when we return from this time spent with our
families! We hope you have an opportunity to take a break this Spring, too, and enjoy the
weather as the temperatures warm up.
