MANAGEMENT:
Mary Parker Follet (1863-1933), describe the word management as “the art of getting work done
through others”. The word manage is originated from Italian work “maneggiare” that means “to
handle” but the word maneggiare is used for handling the tools.
Theoretically it could be explained as management is the act of achieving the desire goals and
objectives by the efficient use of available resources through the group or groups of people. Here
the utilization of resources are refers to the Human resources, technological, finance and all other
available and affordable resources.

DEFINATIONS:

“Organisation and coordination of the activities of an enterprise in accordance with certain


policies and in achievement of clearly define objectives. Management is often included as a
factor of production along with machine, materials and money. According to the management
guru Peter Drucker (1909-2005) the basic task of a management is twofold: marketing and
innovation”.

“Management comprises the interlocking functions of formulating corporate policy and


organizing, planning, controlling, and directing the firm's resources to achieve the policy's
objectives. The size of management can range from one person in a small firm to hundreds or
thousands of managers in multinational companies. In large firms the board of directors
formulates the policy which is implemented by the chief executive officer”.

Management word according to different writers explains three aspects of organization.

• Organizing people, project and process
MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS:

Management functions are classified as;

• Planning
• Organizing
• Staffing
• Leading
• Controlling

Some management styles use an additional function of motivation as well as a basic function of
management.

ORGANIZING:
Organising is considered to be everything in correct order and correct placement. Mobilizing
materials and resources by allocating separate tasks to different departments, units and
individuals. In management point of view, it’s the 2nd step after planning to organize the
resources we need to achieve where we want to be or to achieve our objective and outcomes. Just
like planning, organizing is also a documentary stage of management. Here at this stage,
management also focus on “STRUCTURE”, this structure helps in organizing all the available
resources of the firm. It includes the structure of human force and available resources.

CONTROLLING:
In this case, participation is viewed as a means of controlling workers. In contrast, Theory Y
focuses on the maximum utilization of a company’s limited human resources. Participation in
this context seeks to unleash the full potential of all employees and suggests a greater level of
participation.
Monitoring progress to ensure that plans are being carried out properly. Proper mile-stone are
placed in order to keep control on the activities that lead the overall organization activities
towards the achievement of firm objective. Controlling also helps in changing the direction of
the working condition, if applicable and needed at any time. Control on planning helps the firm
to reach the desire point at the planned time. It also helps in to re-track the plan, if the overall
flow diverts from the real plan.

COORDINATION:
Coordination is the act of coordinating, making different people or things work together for a
goal or effect. An organized working together of muscles and groups of muscles aimed at
bringing about a purposeful movement such as walking or standing.

MOTIVATION:

monetary and could be any other factors depending on personal own interest e.g. recognition etc.
Motivation is consider to be one of the most important factor in building up the employee
attitude towards particular actions. It could be intrinsic or extrinsic.

CHANGE MANAGEMENT:

Change management is a structured approach to shifting/transitioning individuals, teams,


and organizations from a current state to a desired future state. It is an organizational process
aimed at empowering employees to accept and embrace changes in their current business
environment.
All these management functions are inter-related, particularly starts from the planning stage, then
moves towards the organizing stage although, both stages are considered to be the documentary
stages. After that staffing, leading and controlling are the next three practical stages. There is no
specific place for motivation stage, as it is necessary starts from the very beginning of the
planning stage to both the management and the supporting team used by the management. All
factors are totally related and dependent on one another, as if we remove or give little attention to
one could simply reflects the weakness of management.
