Name of the Game: Mix fruits Stage ES1


Explanation
• The teacher and children form a big circle and respond to the name of different fruits by moving in an appropriate
way:
• Bananas mean children will stretch out arms and leg. Runner apples mean children will run around in circles. For
Jelly & strawberries children will jump. For Grapes children will shiver and shake. Frozen peaches children will stand
very still. Baked carrots children will lay on the floor and sunbath.
• The teacher will do the movements and the children will imitate him/her.

Why is this game important for this stage?


• This game allows this stage to respond to simple instructions and rules.
• Perform various types of physical activity, locomotors skills like running around and non-locomotors skills like
jumping and stretching.
• Leads to a positive relationship within the group members, cooperating with team mates and enjoying the
challenge it provided.

What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How?


Interacting, Communication, Moving.
• INES1.3 Relates well to others in a work and play situation, students play happily with class peers and have fun.
• COES1.1 Expresses feelings, needs and wants in appropriate ways. Communicating is involved as students respond
to instruction using skills of communicating through movement and language.
• MOES1.4Demonstrates a general awareness of how basic movement skills apply in play and other introductory
movement experiences. Perform various types of physical activity, locomotors skills like running around and non-
locomotors skills like jumping and stretching.

To make game harder, teacher may ask students to identify and say the action as they are doing it.

Name of the Game: Dance Stage ES1
Explanation:
• Teacher and students form a large circle.
• When music starts they start dancing and when the music stops students will stop dancing as well.
• Teacher will be dancing with them and do some basic gymnastics movement and the students will do like their
teacher.
• Students must pay attention as teacher change movement randomly.

Why is this game important for this stage?


• Children love music, dancing and running so they will have lots of fun.
• This game helps students to listen to instructions and try to learn how to do it by copying their teacher movement
asked and by focusing when music begins and stops.
• Introduce basic movement and following direction which relates to dance outcome DAES1 moves to response to
various stimuli. This is indicated by being able to follow the teacher and explore the way the body move.

Interacting, Moving, Communication
• INES1.3 Relates well to others in a work and play situation, students play happily with class peers and have fun.
• COES1.1 Expresses feelings, needs and wants in appropriate ways. Communicating is involved as students respond
to verbal and non verbal instruction and respond to stimuli in appropriate ways through movement and language.
• MOS1.4: Demonstrates a general awareness of how basic movement skills apply in play and other introductory
movement experiences.
Students practice different moving skills when dancing and doing some gymnastics movements.

• A selection of music (different speeds and customs).
• The teacher may ask the student to name the customs of a specific type of music being played and perform a
movement that suits that specific type of music.

Name of the Game Musical chair Stage S1
Explanation
• Teacher and students form circles depending on class numbers, with placing 6 chairs in the middle of each group.
• When music starts students have to run and hop around the chairs. When the music stops they have to sit on the
chairs.
• Students who couldn’t find a place to sit will be allowed to run around the circles and the rest will start playing
again.
• As the number of players is decreasing, the teacher will eliminate the chairs one by one until we have two students
and one chair the last student who sits first wins from each group.

Why is this game important for this stage?


• This game allows students to develop the ability to move effectively in response to a variety of stimuli.
• Being able to listen carefully and respond properly.
• Positive feelings of success and enjoyment while playing with their peers.

What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How?


Communication, Interacting, Moving.
• COS1.1 Communicates appropriately in a variety of ways. Communicating is particularly relevant in this game as
students express themselves through movement, which is highlighted when students are instructed to move to
express an emotion and identify an emotion by observing the movement of the teacher.
• INS1.3Develops positive relationships with peers and other people. Interacting is also important as this game
creates an environment for students to interact with each other and respond and listen to the teacher and peers.
• MOS1.4 Demonstrates maturing performance of basic movement and compositional skills in a variety of
predictable situations. Moving is also present as students need to balance and repeat movements in a sequence.

Name of the Game Tinker Tailor Stage S1
Explanation-
Divide the children into small groups according to their number. Children move sideways in circles and pass a big ball
around from hands to hands while the rhyme is said:” Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Sailor, Rich man, Poor man, Beggar man,
Thief”. The Thief has to run around the circle with the ball chased by the teacher or by other child.

Why is this game important for this stage?


• The game relates to Games and Sports GSS1.8, particularly in requiring the ability to catch a large ball with two
hands in the air.
• It incorporates skills that will be necessary in minor games, allowing for progression and development. The use of
the big ball is good for this stage as students may not be used to catching smaller or harder balls yet.
• Help students to understand basic and initial instructions in playing games.

What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How?


Communication, Interacting, Moving.
• COS1.1 Communicates appropriately in a variety of ways. Communicating is particularly relevant in this game as

Part A - WARM UP GAMES –
Name of the Game: Octopus Stage S2
Explanation
Everyone must run from one side to the other side without being tipped by the ‘octopus’. Two players are standing in the
middle. When the players in the middle say “octopus” the rest of the players have to run to the other side and the two
octopuses will run after them. If anyone from the other players gets tipped they have to stop moving but they can only
move their hands to tip someone else. If the players run out of the cones they have to stop where they are, and they can
only move their hands to tip someone else. The last two remaining untipped players win.

Why is this game important for this stage?


• Develop player skills and team skills.
• Allow moving with competence and confidence
• Enjoys regular participation in worthwhile physical activity
• Identifies students own strengths and limitations.
• Develop feelings of success and enjoyment

Communication, Decision making, Moving.
• COS2.1Uses a variety of ways to communicate with and within groups. So students can work together and learn how
to communicate.
• DMS2.2 Makes decisions as an individual and as a group member. Teaches student to make the right decisions so they
could be better in deciding in life.
• MOS2.4Displays a focus on quality of movement in applying movement skills to a variety of familiar and new
situations. So the students stay healthy and fit. To prepare their bodies bones for the real game.

Teacher will put cones to setup a rectangular shape in the school hall to draw the borders.

Name of the Game: One Two Three Freeze Stage S2
Explanation
One person “Leader” stands facing the wall and the other students line up behind the student facing the wall. The
students run towards the leader. When the leader looks back the students behind him/her have to freeze. The student
who is closest to the leader will be the new leader and the former leader returns back to play with the other students.

Why is this game important for this stage?


• This game helps students to be physically fit like running in situations or representing a sport.
• Students learn to take part in activities with a large group.
• Follow the teacher’s instructions.

What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How?


Communication, Interacting, Moving.
• COS2.1Uses a variety of ways to communicate with and within groups. So they will learn how to have good
sportsmanship and not to get angry if they lose.
• INS2.3Makes positive contributions in group activities. To share their ideas and to contribute in conversations by
thinking of which technique the students have to use.
• MOS2.4Displays a focus on quality of movement in applying movement skills to a variety of familiar and new
situations. Selects and exercises moving strategy to win the game and be the new leader.

Name of the Game Guiding the ball Stage S3
Explanation
Divide children into small teams. Put a line of cones, hoops and beanbags for each team to use as obstacles.
Children have to guide the ball between and around all the obstacles until they reach the end of the line.
Children then return to their team by guiding the ball in a straight line until they reach the next member of the team
who repeats the process. The winning team is the one which every player has completed the process and has sat in a
straight line.

Why is this game important for this stage?


• Students know how to use their feet and control their body movement.
• Students keep skinny and healthy so they don’t get obese.
• Students learn how to gain balance and skills.

What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How?


Decision making, Interacting, Moving.
• DMS3.2 Makes informed decisions and accepts the responsibility of being the team leader or player by planning a
certain technique with a partner to win the game.
• INS3.3 Acts in ways that enhances the contribution of self and others in a range of cooperative situations. To share
their ideas and to contribute in conversations by thinking of which technique the students have to use.
• MOS3.4 Refines and applies movement skills creatively to a variety of challenging situations, allowing students
control their body movement while guiding the ball without dropping any of the cones or the hoops.

Name of the Game Rabbits and foxes Stage S3
Explanation
One child is chosen to be the fox. He/she has to collect as many rabbits (children) as he/she can take them back to his
spot one at a time.
Four other children are chosen as rabbit parents and each wear a different coloured band. Their aim is to save rabbits
with the same coloured bands as themselves from the fox.
The winning team is the one that has the most rabbits (children) at the end of the given time.

Why is this game important for this stage?


• Children will enjoy playing with their peers.
• Children get challenged it keeps them healthy from getting addicted to games which ruins their eyes.
• Children could spend more time outside with their friends and form relationships.

Problem Solving, Interacting, Moving.
• PSS3.5 Suggests considers and selects appropriate alternatives when resolving problems. Students have to select
the best way to save as much rabbits as they can in order to win.
• MOS3.4 Refines and applies movement skills creatively to a variety of challenging situations. Create appropriate
movement skills when challenged by another peer.
• INS3.3 Acts in ways that enhance the contribution of self and others in a range of cooperative situations by
interacting smoothly and friendly with care for other peers.
