CAPÍTULO 1. INTRODUCCIÓN
El Equipo de Usuario FB250 es una solución compacta y diseñada
específicamente para complementar los servicios Fleet Banda Ancha en
el entorno marítimo. Proporciona cobertura oceánica homogénea desde
los 76° Norte a los 76° Sur. La Banda Ancha es la versión marina del

gran éxito de Inmarsat: la BGAN ó Red Global de Banda Ancha.
Por medio de una antena compacta, proporciona un acceso cons-

tante y simultáneo a datos de voz y de alta velocidad. Al permitir al usua-
rio ejecutar sistemas de operación “on line”, y teniendo acceso al servicio
de correo electrónico, Intranet y llamadas de voz, se consigue una mayor
eficiencia operativa, reduciéndose de manera significativa tanto el coste

de comunicaciones de negocio como las concernientes a la tripulación.

denadores, enrutadores y puntos de acceso.
I 2 puertos LAN para ordenadores, enrutadores y puntos de acceso.
I 1 puerto para teléfono estándar RJ11 teléfono analógico (con cable).
I 1 puerto estándar para fax RJ11 para teléfonos estándar, fax ó
módems analógicos.
I Slot (ranura) de extensión para lo siguiente:
• Conectores “jack” para la unidad inalámbrica DCET.
• Conectividad para expansión Wi-Fi.
I Consola web incorporada que permite gestionar la agenda tele-
fónica, mensajes y llamadas, así como personalizar el Terminal
para las necesidades del usuario.

La unidad sobre cubierta FB250 es una antena marítima de 3 ejes
y tamaño mediano, tipo Fleet Banda Ancha de clase 9.

La antena tiene auto rastreo, basado en una tecnología patentada
de haz oblicuo. Su sistema electromecánico, robusto y simple, con un
motor por cada eje libre, proporciona una cobertura total, tanto en azi-

mut como en elevación. Rastrea midiendo señales que son emitidas

continuamente por el satélite.
La antena incluye NLA (amplificador de bajo nivel de ruido), HPA

(amplificador de potencia) y circuitería de recepción, para asegurar la
comunicación incluso en circunstancias adversas.
La cubierta que protege los componentes de la antena está com-

puesta de:

Todas las señales (y la alimentación) pasan a través de un cable co-

axial simple, que conecta la unidad sobre cubierta a la bajo cubierta.

Esta unidad ha sido diseñada para obtener la máxima flexibilidad.

Es la unidad de control del equipo FB250 Fleet Banda Ancha. Incor-
pora interfaces estándar y permite a los usuarios una conectividad óp-
tima, sin importar ni las condiciones ni la situación en la mar.

La unidad bajo cubierta tiene una consola web incorporada, a la que

se puede acceder desde un ordenador conectado a la misma, por medio

de un navegador de Internet. La consola permite configurar fácilmente

la unidad, actualizar su propio software y su uso diario. Para más infor-
mación, ver el Capítulo 4: Usar la consola web.

Ranura tarjeta SIM (6)
La unidad bajo cubierta tiene una ranura (slot) tarjeta SIM (Módulo
de Identidad del subscriptor) situada en el panel de conexiones, bajo
una pequeña cubierta metálica. El equipo necesita una tarjeta SIM Fleet
de Banda Ancha dedicada para acceder a la red de Banda Ancha y para

configurar los valores del equipo.

INDICADORES DE ESTADO (LEDS)

Hay 4 indicadores de estado que informan del estado de funcionamiento de la unidad de
un sólo vistazo. A cada indicador (LED) se le asigna una de estas funciones:
1. Encendido de la unidad bajo cubierta. 2. Estado de la red. 3. Estado de la unidad
sobre cubierta. 4. Llamada ó mensaje de alerta.
El teléfono principal
El teléfono principal (con cable), tiene una panta-

lla de cristal líquido (LCD) en color, y un teclado para
hacer llamadas de voz y enviar SMS usando un inter-
faz similar al de un teléfono móvil. Se puede usar para
controlar y configurar la unidad bajo cubierta.
El teléfono principal está conectado a la unidad

bajo cubierta por medio del interfaz dedicado del
mismo (Handset interface), y se alimenta directa-
mente de dicha unidad. Para más información sobre
cómo usar el teléfono, ver Capítulo 3, Usar el telé-
fono principal.

INSTALAR LA TARJETA SIM

El equipo FB250 requiere una tarjeta SIM Fleet Banda Ancha dedicada para
acceder a la red de Banda Ancha Fleet, y configurar los valores del equipo. El usuario
deberá consultar a su proveedor de servicios Airtime para más información.

Siga estos pasos para instalar la tarjeta SIM:
1. Retirar el tornillo que asegura la cubierta de la tarjeta SIM.

2. Retirar la cubierta de la tarjeta.
3. Mantenga la tarjeta SIM,

la cubierta y el tornillo
en una posición segura.
4. Con los contactos dora-
dos cara arriba, situar la
tarjeta SIM tal y como se
indica y colocar la SIM
dentro de la ranura.

5. Con un destornillador, empuje suavemente la tarjeta SIM hasta
oír un clic y asegurarla en su posición.

6. Instalar la cubierta de la tarjeta.

7. Colocar el tornillo para asegurar la cubierta de la SIM.
CONECTAR EL CABLE COAXIAL DE LA ANTENA
El equipo viene con un cable coaxial, a conectar entre las dos unidades
(sobre y bajo cubierta).
Para conectar el cable de la antena a la unidad bajo cubierta, seguir

los siguientes pasos:
1. Insertar el cable de antena al conector.
2. Apretar el mando del cable de la antena para asegurarlo en la

unidad bajo cubierta.

Es muy importante que el cable de la antena esté conectado adecuadamente
al equipo FB250. Comprobar que los conectores estén bien apretados.
CONECTARSE A LA ALIMENTACIÓN

Seguir estos pasos para conectar el FB250 a la fuente de alimenta-
ción del buque:

I Conectar el adaptador del cable de alimentación al conector de
alimentación DC.

I Conectar el cable de alimentación a la fuente DC del buque.
I Encender la alimentación DC del buque al FB250.
CONECTAR EL TELÉFONO PRINCIPAL
El teléfono principal recibe alimentación del equipo bajo cubierta,

por medio de su propio interfaz (Primary Handset interface).
Para conectar el teléfono principal, seguir los pasos siguientes:
I Conectar el teléfono principal a su interfaz, en el panel de co-

nexiones trasero.

ENCENDER EL EQUIPO FB250
Llevar a cabo los siguientes pasos para encender el FB250:
1. Pulsar el conmutador de encendido del panel frontal.

2. Para apagar la unidad
Pulsar el conmutador de encendido del panel frontal.
MODO EN ESPERA (STAND BY)
Seguir estos pasos para encender y apagar el FB250 partiendo del

modo en espera.
1. Mantener pulsada la tecla de encendido del teléfono prin-

cipal durante 4 segundos.
INTRODUCIR EL SIM PIN
Al adquirir la tarjeta SIM en el proveedor de servicios Airtime, se

proporciona un PIN ó Número de identificación personal que cons-
tará de 4 a 8 dígitos).
En caso de que el FB250 haya sido apagado, será necesario introducir el PIN
en el momento de encenderlo.
Seguir estos pasos para introducir el SIM PIN:
1. Usar el teclado del teléfono principal e introducir el SIM PIN.
2. Pulsar para confirmar el SIM PIN.
Si se hubieran hecho más de 3 intentos incorrectos para introducir el código PIN,

el teléfono se bloqueará, y en pantalla aparecerá “xxxxxxxx”. Al usuario se le pedirá
que use el código PUK para desbloquear la tarjeta SIM y reiniciar el código PIN.

HACER LA PRIMERA LLAMADA DE VOZ
Para hacer una llamada, el usuario deberá estar conectado a una red,

y tener una señal satelitaria adecuada.

Cuando el indicador de estado de la unidad sobre cubierta y el in-
dicador de Estado de la Red situados en el terminal tengan luz verde fija,
se podrá hacer ó recibir la primera llamada de voz.
Para hacer la primera llamada en el teléfono principal, marcar:
I 00 <código del país> <nº de teléfono> seguido de la tecla .
Para llamadas internacionales y SMS, mantener pulsada la tecla hasta

que en pantalla aparezca ‘+’. Después introducir el <código del país>
y <nº de teléfono>, sin usar el prefijo “00”.
I Para terminar la llamada, pulsar en el teléfono principal.

I Para aceptar una llamada entrante, pulsar del teléfono principal.
Para hacer una llamada desde un analógico (opcional) conectado al

puerto telefónico del equipo FB250, descolgar y marcar:
I 00 <código del país> <nº de teléfono> seguido de la tecla #.
ENVIAR EL PRIMER SMS (MENSAJE)
Seguir los pasos siguientes:

La pantalla de selección de menú aparecerá en la pantalla del telé-

2. Usar el anillo de navegación para ir al icono Mensajes .

3. Pulsar para confirmar selección.
El editor de SMS aparecerá en la pantalla del teléfono principal.
4. Teclear el mensaje SMS usando el teclado alfanumérico del te-

léfono principal.
Consejos para escribir texto
I Para añadir un espacio, pulsar la tecla 0.

I Para cambiar rápidamente el método de entrada de texto al es-
cribir, pulsar repetidamente y comprobar el indicador en la
parte superior de pantalla:

I Para añadir un número, mantener pulsada la tecla con el número

que se desee.

I Para obtener una lista de símbolos especiales, pulsar .

I Usar el anillo de navegación para ir al símbolo deseado.
I Pulsar para confirmar selección.
Borrar texto
I Para borrar texto, pulsar una vez (un carácter de cada vez).
I Para borrar una entrada de texto entera, mantener pulsada la
tecla .
HACER LA PRIMERA CONEXIÓN PDP
Para que el interfaz de la Red de Área local (LAN) pueda funcionar sin que
haga falta configurarlo, el ordenador debe estarlo para obtener una dirección IP
y una dirección de servidor DNS automáticamente.
Cómo conectar un ordenador al equipo bajo cubierta FB250:
I Conectar el cable LAN entre el conector de red del ordenador y

el primer puerto LAN de la unidad bajo cubierta FB250.

I Encender el ordenador.
I Iniciar el navegador de Internet.
I Teclear http://192.168.1.35 en el campo “Address” (Dirección)
y pulsar Enter.

“Password”. Clic en OK.

I Clic en el icono Settings (Ajustes) .

Se activará el contexto PDP.
Al estar conectado, van a aparecer los detalles de las direcciones
APN e IP.
El usuario puede seguir usando las funciones de Internet.
Para desconectar la conexión de datos hacer lo siguiente:
I Clic en “Disconnect”.
El contexto PDP queda desactivado.

Anillo de navegación: 4 direcciones
– Pulsar para ir hacia arriba, abajo, a izquierda y derecha de
pantalla. Permite recorrer las listas de nombres números,
menús ó ajustes.

– Al pulsarla se escoge ó se confirma la función que aparezca
resaltada en la pantalla.

– Las funciones de esta tecla dependerán del texto guía que
aparece en pantalla, sobre la tecla.

– Las funciones de esta tecla dependerán del texto guía que

– Pulsar la tecla derecha para ir a una ventana ó menú
anterior.
Tecla Llamada / Descolgar

– Después de introducir el número se inicia la llamada.
– Desde la pantalla principal: abre una lista de las últimas
llamadas, incluyendo las entrantes, las salientes y las
perdidas.

Tecla Fin / Colgar
– Pulsar la tecla para terminar las llamadas activas.
– Con esta tecla se sale de cualquier función, si se está en el
sistema de menús.
Teclado
– Para introducir números y caracteres. Pulsar 0 para añadir
un espacio dentro de un texto escrito.
– Las funciones disponibles dependerán de si se está tecleando
un nº de teléfono (modo numérico) ó un texto (modo texto).
– La tecla “Estrella” * tiene dos funciones:

– Al introducir un número, pulsar la tecla * par que aparezca
un +.
– Al escribir texto, pulsar la tecla * para acceder a una lista
de símbolos especiales.
– Pulsar la tecla “Almohadilla” # . En pantalla aparece: #.

– Cambia de manera rápida la inserción de texto al escribir.
Pulsarla repetidamente (#) y observar el indicador en la parte
superior de la pantalla.
– En Modo En espera, mantenerla pulsada para silenciar el
teléfono principal.

Tecla de encendido
– Enciende y apaga el teléfono si se mantiene pulsada
3 segundos.
– Pulsar esta tecla para encender ó apagar el FB250.
– Para borrar texto, pulsar la tecla una vez para borrar

– Para borrar toda una entrada de texto, mantenerla pulsada,
y se borrará toda la entrada.

El menú principal del teléfono incluye 9 opciones de menú, tal y

como aparece más abajo. Cada opción del menú tiene sus correspon-
dientes submenús.
Se puede usar el anillo para ir hasta la opción de menú que se

desee y a continuación, pulsar para confirmar la selección.

I Línea de indicadores
La línea muestra los símbolos que informan al usuario acerca de
las condiciones de funcionamiento del teléfono principal.
I Zona de información principal

Esta zona muestra información relativa a llamadas, menús y sus
submenús, y presenta los editores para Contactos y mensajes
SMS.
I Línea de selección
La línea de selección funciona usando las teclas de selección iz-
quierda y la derecha , y con la tecla para acceder a
menús y controles.

SILENCIAR EL TELÉFONO PRINCIPAL
Se puede suprimir el sonido en el teléfono. Para activar ó suprimir

esta función, mantener pulsada la tecla .
Aparecerá un icono en la pantalla del teléfono, que muestra que

este modo está activado: .
BLOQUEAR EL TECLADO DEL TELÉFONO PRINCIPAL
Las teclas del teléfono pueden bloquearse para evitar acciones im-
previstas. Para bloquear ó desbloquear el teclado, habrá que pulsar la
tecla , seguida de .
Este icono mostrará que el teclado del teléfono principal está blo-
queado: .
HACER LLAMADAS
Para hacer una llamada, el usuario deberá asegurarse de que el equipo

está conectado a una red, y que hay una señal satelitaria adecuada.

Hay dos opciones para hacer una llamada.
I Marcado manual.
1. Usar el teclado alfanumérico, marcar 00 <código de país>
<nº de teléfono>.
2. Pulsar la tecla .

Usar los Contactos ó el Registro del teléfono principal.

1. Entrar en la lista de Contactos del teléfono, ir hasta el número
deseado y pulsar la tecla , ó bien,

Para llamadas internacionales y SMS, mantener pulsada la tecla *

hasta que aparezca ‘+’ en pantalla. Después, introducir <código de país>

FINALIZAR UNA LLAMADA
Pulsar .
RECIBIR UNA LLAMADA
Cuando hay una llamada entrante, el teléfono principal:
I Sonará.
I El número del que llama aparece en pantalla.
I Si el número está guardado en los Contactos, aparecerá el nom-
bre del contacto que llama.
Para contestar a una llamada entrante, pulsar .
MENSAJERÍA (SMS)
Crear un nuevo mensaje
Para crear un nuevo mensaje, habrá que seguir estos pasos:
1. Pulsar para escoger el Menú.
En la pantalla del teléfono aparece la Pantalla de Selección de
menús.
2. Con el Anillo, , ir hasta el icono Mensajes .
3. Pulsar para confirmar la selección.
El editor SMS aparece en la pantalla del teléfono.

4. Teclear el mensaje SMS usando el teclado alfanumérico del te-
léfono.
5. Para enviar el mensaje, escoger “Send” (Enviar), introducir el nú-

mero de teléfono del destinatario, y pulsar la tecla .

Leer un mensaje recibido
Cuando se recibe un mensaje de texto, aparece en pantalla el icono

“New SMS” en la pantalla.
Cómo leer un mensaje:

Responder a un mensaje
Seguir estos pasos para contestar a un mensaje:
1. Pulsar para escoger un Menú.

La pantalla de Selección de Menú aparece en pantalla.
2. Con el Anillo, , ir hasta el icono Mensajes .
4. Escoger “Inbox” (Buzón).
5. Con el Anillo, , ir al mensaje deseado.
6. Escoger “Reply” (Responder).
7. Teclear el mensaje SMS con el teclado alfanumérico del telé-
fono.

El menú “Contacts” permite almacenar y actualizar los nombres y
números de teléfonos de los contactos en la memoria del teléfono prin-
cipal y en la tarjeta de memoria SIM. También proporciona al
teléfono las opciones siguientes:
I Gestión de contactos (Add /Edit / Delete/ Copy / View number)

Añadir un contacto nuevo
Para hacerlo, seguir estos pasos:
I Escoger “New contact”.

I Escoger dónde se va a guardar ese contacto (en el Terminal ó en
la SIM).
I Introducir su nombre y número.
Para llamadas internacionales y SMS, mantener pulsada la tecla *

hasta que aparezca ‘+’ en pantalla. Después, introducir <código de país>
y <nº de teléfono> sin usar el prefijo “00”.
I Pulsar para guardar el contacto.
Editar un contacto
Para hacerlo, seguir los pasos siguientes:
1. Escoger el contacto a editar.

2. Pulsar para ver el menú de opciones.
3. Escoger “Edit contact” (Editar contacto).
4. Editar la información del contacto.
5. Pulsar para guardar el contacto.
6. Escoger “Yes” para confirmar los cambios.
Borrar un contacto

las llamadas y la utilización de los datos:

dard caller ID”.

Valores de los puertos de Voz y Fax
Indicar que el audio de 3.1KHz está pensado para comunicaciones de fax,

y se recomienda su uso sólo para llamadas de fax, pero no para llamadas normales
de voz, porque el cargo por minuto para 3,1 KHz de audio es significativamente
más alto que el de la llamada de voz estándar.
Manejo del equipo de Voz / Fax conectado al Terminal
Cuando todos los puertos de voz/fax (puerto PHONE, puerto FAX,

puerto RJ45 para el teléfono principal y el puerto EXTENSIÓN PHONE)
estén conectados con un equipo de voz/fax adecuado, el comporta-

Uno está pensado para llamadas de fax a 3,1KHz y otro para lla-

Cuando se quiera enviar un fax al fax que esté conectado al Sa-

tlink FB250, habrá que usar el número MSISDN de la tarjeta SIM
a 3,1KHz que está insertado en el Terminal FB250.

Al usar este número, la red iniciará automáticamente una lla-

mada de audio a 3,1Khz al Satlink FB250. Al usar este número

la red hará automáticamente una llamada de audio a 3,1KHz al
Satlink FB250.
Cuando se recibe una llamada de audio a 3,1KHz, todo el

equipo conectado a los puertos que estén configurados para re-
cibir llamadas entrantes usando un 3,1KHz de fax dará un so-
nido de llamada. Si hay un fax conectado al puerto FAX del
Satlink FB250, y si el puerto está activado para una llamada en-
trante, entonces se conectará y recibirá el fax entrante.
De manera similar, si una llamada entrante se hace usando el nº

estándar de llamada de voz (AMBE MSISDN) sonará todo el
equipo que esté conectado a los puertos configurados para re-
cepción de llamadas entrantes con voz estándar.
I Llamadas salientes
Si un elemento del componente audio del equipo (teléfono ana-
lógico, principal ó fax) conectado a su puerto respectivo se des-
cuelga y se hace una llamada, esa llamada será del tipo “3.1KHz
audio” ó “voz estándar”, dependiendo de la configuración en
ese puerto en particular. Hay que indicar que la llamada de
audio a 3,1KHz es una transmisión de fax, no recomendada para
una conversación de voz normal, porque el cargo por llamada
sería significativamente más alto que el de una llamada de voz
estándar.
Procedimiento para configuración de los puertos de Voz y Fax
El menú “Port Settings” permite configurar la calidad de la trans-

misión para todo los puertos de telefonía:

Hacer Marcación rápida
Antes, habrá que asegurarse de que la opción “Speed Dial” esté ac-
tivada. Pulsar una tecla numérica que tendrá un nombre de contacto ya
asignado para marcación rápida.
Después, pulsar la tecla . Por ejemplo, si el “2” está asignado

para marcación rápida a un nombre, (por ejemplo, Andrés) en el listín
del teléfono, al marcar “2” seguido de , el usuario marcará el nú-
mero del contacto llamado “Andrés”.

Contexto PDP
El nombre de “contexto PDP” hace referencia a Packet Data Proto-

col (Protocolo de paquetes de datos), que es una conexión lógica de
asociación de paquetes de datos.

En términos simples, la activación del contexto PDP se refiere al es-
tablecimiento de una sesión de datos activa. “Desactivar un contexto
PDP” se refiere al fin de una sesión de datos.
Hay dos tipos de contextos PDP:

El equipo Satlink FB250 admite 1 contexto PDP primario y como

máximo 10 contextos PDP secundarios. El contexto PDP Primario ó se-
cundario puede ser ó bien un tipo de conexión IP estándar ó de tipo IP
Streaming.
Conexión IP estándar
Este es el tipo de conexión de datos en el que la banda ancha se

sitúa de manera dinámica por medio de la red BGAN, dependiendo de
las condiciones de tráfico de la red. Este tipo de conexión se usa gene-
ralmente para navegar por Internet, correo electrónico y otras aplica-
ciones de paquetes de datos que no sean a tiempo real.
La conexiones IP estándar se cargan basándose en el volumen

de Datos (en Mbytes).
Conexión IP Streaming
Las conexiones IP Streaming se usan para aplicaciones Streaming

en tiempo real, como son las aplicaciones streaming de audio ó vídeo
como Quick Link, Quick Time Media, Real-Media, Stream-box, Win
Media, etc.
Se admiten tres tipos diferentes de conexiones IP Streaming IP:
32kbps, 64kbps y 128kbps con ancho de banda simétrico (mismo ancho
de banda para subida y bajada) y se garantizan los anchos de banda
asignados.
La conexión IP Streaming se cargará basándose en el tiempo de conexión

en activo, independientemente del volumen de los datos transferidos.
Por ello, se recomienda no tenerla conectada cuando no se esté usando.

1 conexión de 128kbps, 2 de 64kbps cada una, 4 de 32kbps cada una ó
cualquier otro tipo de combinación de un máximo de 128 kbps.

Seguir estos pasos para añadir un perfil nuevo:
1. Escoger “Managing profiles”.

Forward (Reenviar) Reenviar mensaje. Permite su edición antes de enviarlo.
Call (Llamar) Llama al emisor del mensaje.
Add to contact (Añadir contacto) Añade el contacto al listín telefónico.
Save (Guardar) Guarda el mensaje en la tarjeta SIM.
Details (Detalles) Proporciona detalles del emisor y la fecha de envío.

“Terminal IP Address”
• El equipo Satlink FB250 puede programarse con una dirección
IP privada (“Terminal IP address”) , que se usa para enviar ór-
denes y controlar por encima de la IP del equipo. Esta dirección
IP privada, se usará para acceder a la consola web del equipo.
La dirección IP del equipo (el Terminal) es 192.168.1.35.

El servicio BGAN mundial está cubierto por tres satélites Inmarsat “I-
4”: I-4 Americas, I-4 EMEA y I-4 Asia Pacific.
“Satellite Selection” es una opción del terminal Satlink FB250,

que permite al usuario escoger su satélite preferido para el manejo de
su Terminal. Por defecto, el terminal tiene como opción de selección
“Auto”. Éste es el modo de manejo recomendado. En modo “Auto”,

el Terminal rastrea el firmamento y a continuación se registra en uno
de los satélites que esté visible y que dé un mejor ángulo de eleva-
ción. Si el usuario escoge manualmente uno de los 3 satélites, el Ter-
minal se verá forzado a engancharse a él si es que está visible. Si no

lo estuviera, el usuario recibiría un aviso. En caso de que el usuario
L
insista en seleccionarlo, aún no siendo visible, el Terminal continuará
buscándolo ininterrumpidamente hasta que sí lo esté, independien-
temente de que haya otros disponibles y a la vista. El cambiar de un
satélite a otro hará que las llamadas en activo (CS y PS) se desco-
necten.
En modo “Auto”, cuando el buque se esté moviendo fuera de uno

satélite y entrando en la zona de cobertura de otro, el terminal perderá
su conexión con el primero, y volverá a registrarse con el nuevo. Es im-
portante resaltar que, mientras dura este procedimiento de cambio,
todas las llamadas de voz / fax y las conexiones de datos estarán des-
conectadas.

Terminal PIN
Éste es un ajuste de seguridad para el PIN que permite al usuario

bloquear el terminal por medio de un código PIN. Una vez activado, el
Terminal permite al usuario usar el terminal solamente si se introduce
el PIN correcto.

SIM PIN

Cada tarjeta SIM viene con un SIM PIN. Al activar el SIM PIN, al usua-
rio se le pide que introduzca el código SIM PIN durante el proceso de en-
cendido para poder seguir con el manejo normal del Terminal. Si ese SIM
O
PIN se introduce de manera incorrecta 3 veces seguidas, la tarjeta SIM se

L
bloqueará, y el usuario deberá usar el Código PUK para desbloquearla.

Cuando se le pida ese PUK, el usuario deberá introducirlo correctamente,
seguido por el nuevo código SIM PIN. Si el PUK es correcto, el Nuevo có-
digo se guardará. Si el PUK se introduce incorrectamente 10 veces segui-
das, la tarjeta SIM va a quedar bloqueada permanentemente, y el usuario
deberá pedir otra a su distribuidor ó al Proveedor de servicios.
SIM PIN2
Al contrario que el SIM PIN, el SIM PIN2 no se comprueba durante

el proceso de encendido, pero sí se le pedirá al usuario durante el ma-
nejo. Según el acuerdo 3GPP:
I Se pedirá el SIM PIN2 para la tarjeta SIM ó la aplicación en activo

para la función de memoria de marcación fija UIC (GSM ó USIM).
I Se dará la SIM PIN2 para acceder a las entradas ocultas del lis-
tín telefónico en los listines UICC/USIM ó cualquier otro que
tenga entradas ocultas.
BLOQUEO de la SIM
Se usa para unir el Terminal Satlink FB250 con una tarjeta SIM. Una
vez que el terminal tiene un bloqueo (SIM LOCK) ligado a una tarjeta
SIM por medio de un código PIN de 6 dígitos, el Terminal sólo funcio-
nará con esa tarjeta en concreto. Si se inserta una tarjeta SIM diferente,
el terminal pedirá al usuario que introduzca la contraseña SIM LOCK ó
la contraseña PIN para desbloquear. El usuario puede introducir el có-
digo PIN para hacerlo, y después usar una tarjeta SIM nueva, ó bien
continuar usando la misma SIM relacionada con su Terminal.

Personalizar el proveedor de servicios

Permite al distribuidor ó al proveedor de servicios bloquear el ter-
minal con una tarjeta SIM particular que tiene un código PIN de 6 dí-
gitos. Una vez bloqueado (normalmente se hace antes de vender el
Terminal al usuario final), el terminal trabajará con cualquier SIM del

mismo proveedor de servicios que ha bloqueado el Terminal. Si se in-

serta una SIM diferente, el terminal pedirá al usuario que desbloquee el
apartado “Service Provider Personalization” usando el mismo PIN con
el que se bloqueó.
Corporate Personalization (Personalización corporativa)

Idioma

dad bajo cubierta. Al contrario que con la opción de “Reset” de la que

Selección de satélite
La opción por defecto es modo Auto. En Modo Auto, el equipo ras-

treará todos los satélites visibles y se quedará, ó bien con el tenga el

El cambio en la selección del satélite cancelará tanto las conexiones

de de datos como las llamadas de voz/fax en activo.

Contexto PDP
El nombre de “contexto PDP” hace referencia a Packet Data Pro-

tocol (Protocolo de paquetes de datos), que es una conexión lógica de
asociación de paquetes de datos.
En términos simples, la activación del contexto PDP se refiere al es-

tablecimiento de una sesión de datos activa. “Desactivar un contexto
PDP” se refiere al fin de una sesión de datos.
Hay dos tipos de contextos PDP.
I Contexto PDP primario.

• Tiene una sola dirección IP asociada a él.
I Contexto PDP secundario.
• Comparte una dirección IP con un contexto PDP primario.
• Se crea basándose en un contexto PDP primario ya existente
(para compartir la dirección IP)
• Los contextos PDP secundarios pueden tener distintos valores
en la calidad del servicio.
El equipo Satlink FB250 admite 1 contexto PDP primario y como

máximo 10 contextos PDP secundarios. El contexto PDP Primario ó se-
cundario puede ser ó bien un tipo de conexión IP estándar ó de tipo IP
Streaming.

Conexión IP estándar
Este es el tipo de conexión de datos en el que la banda ancha se

sitúa de manera dinámica por medio de la red BGAN, dependiendo de
las condiciones de tráfico de la red. Este tipo de conexión se usa gene-
ralmente para navegar por Internet, correo electrónico y otras aplica-

ciones de paquetes de datos que no sean a tiempo real.

Conexión IP Streaming

Las conexiones IP Streaming se usan para aplicaciones Streaming

en tiempo real, como son las aplicaciones streaming de audio ó vídeo
como Quick Link, Quick Time Media, Real-Media, Stream-box, Win
Media, etc.
Se admiten tres tipos diferentes de conexiones IP Streaming IP:

32kbps, 64kbps y 128kbps con ancho de banda simétrico (mismo ancho
de banda para subida y bajada) y se garantizan los anchos de banda
asignados.
La conexión IP Streaming se cargará basándose en el tiempo de conexión

en activo, independientemente del volumen de los datos transferidos.
Por ello, se recomienda no tenerla conectada cuando no se esté usando.
El Satlink FB250 admite las siguientes conexiones Streaming: al

menos 1 conexión de 128kbps, 2 de 64kbps cada una, 4 de 32kbps
cada una ó cualquier otro tipo de combinación de un máximo de 128
kbps.
Perfiles primarios
Los perfiles primarios definen el tipo de conexión. Se puede esco-

ger de una lista de perfiles aquel que vaya a ser el perfil primario y el
tipo de conexión. Del Perfil 4 al perfil 10, se puede crear un perfil pri-
mario propio y personalizado.

El Perfil Estándar es el perfil primario por defecto, y el tipo de conexión
por defecto es la estándar (que se carga teniendo en cuenta el volumen
–en kilobytes– de datos usados).
I Nombre del Perfil (Profile Name)

I Tipo de conexión (Connection Type)
Seleccionar el tipo de conexión a usar durante la conexión:
• Standard – Se carga por e volumen (en kilobytes) de los datos

I APN: Nombre del punto de acceso (Access Point Name)
Por defecto, se escogerá el de la tarjeta SIM.

Port Forwarding
“Port Forwarding” es una función para modo de enrutamiento (Rou-

ter mode) para usuarios múltiples. Esta función configura el equipo
FB250 para dirigir el tráfico entrante en un puerto TCP/UDP concreto
hacia un puerto específico en un PC local (dirección IP).

bloquear el terminal por medio de un código PIN. Una vez activado, el

el PIN correcto.
SIM PIN

Cada tarjeta SIM viene con un SIM PIN. Al activar el SIM PIN, al
usuario se le pide que introduzca el código SIM PIN durante el proceso
de encendido para poder seguir con el manejo normal del Terminal. Si

ese SIM PIN se introduce de manera incorrecta 3 veces seguidas, la tar-

jeta SIM se bloqueará, y el usuario deberá usar el Código PUK para des-
bloquearla. Cuando se le pida ese PUK, el usuario deberá introducirlo
correctamente, seguido por el nuevo código SIM PIN. Si el PUK es co-

rrecto, el Nuevo código se guardará. Si el PUK se introduce incorrec-

tamente 10 veces seguidas, la tarjeta SIM va a quedar bloqueada

permanentemente, y el usuario deberá pedir otra a su distribuidor ó al
Proveedor de servicios.
SIM PIN2
Al contrario que el SIM PIN, el SIM PIN2 no se comprueba durante

el proceso de encendido, pero sí se le pedirá al usuario durante el ma-
nejo. Según el acuerdo 3GPP:
I Se pedirá el SIM PIN2 para la tarjeta SIM ó la aplicación en ac-

tivo para la función de memoria de marcación fija UIC (GSM ó
USIM).
I Se dará la SIM PIN2 para acceder a las entradas ocultas del lis-
tín telefónico en los listines UICC/USIM ó cualquier otro que
tenga entradas ocultas.
SIM LOCK (BLOQUEO de la SIM)
Se usa para unir el Terminal Satlink FB250 con una tarjeta SIM. Una
vez que el terminal tiene un bloqueo (SIM LOCK) ligado a una tarjeta
SIM por medio de un código PIN de 6 dígitos, el Terminal sólo funcio-
nará con esa tarjeta en concreto. Si se inserta una tarjeta SIM diferente,
el terminal pedirá al usuario que introduzca la contraseña SIM LOCK ó
la contraseña PIN para desbloquear. El usuario puede introducir el có-
digo PIN para hacerlo, y después usar una tarjeta SIM nueva, ó bien
continuar usando la misma SIM relacionada con su Terminal.
Personalizar el proveedor de servicios

CONFIGURAR LOS PUERTOS DE VOZ Y FAX RJ-11
El puerto PHONE puede usarse bien para llamadas de voz estándar,

bien para fax. Las llamadas de fax utilizan voz de alta calidad a 3.1
kHz (64kbps, A-Law PCM) y la telefonía estándar usan llamada de voz
estándar (4kbps, AMBE+2). Por defecto, el FB-250 está configurado
como se muestra a continuación.
Cuando haya una llamada entrante de voz estándar, todos los telé-
fonos conectados a puertos que estén configurados como llamada de
voz para “llamada entrantes”, empezarán a sonar. Cuando uno de ellos
conteste la llamada, todos los demás pararán de sonar.
De manera similar, para una llamada de voz /fax de alta calidad,

todos los puertos configurados tanto para “llamada entrante” como para
“llamada de de voz/fax de alta calidad”, sonarán, independientemente
de si el dispositivo conectado sea un fax ó un teléfono analógico es-
tándar.
El puerto “FAX” se detina exclusivamente para conectar un fax.

Para enviar ó recibir un fax usando el equipo FB250, seguir los pasos

configurado como 3,1 Khz para “Llamada saliente” y “Llamada
entrante”.
2. Situar los documentos a enviar en el aparato de fax.
3. Marcar el número del propio aparato de fax con este formato:
<+código de país><nº fax del destinatario> # (por ejemplo,
+6512345678#).
Recordar que la cadena de marcado termina con “#” como en el ejemplo.
4. Esperar hasta que el fax esté enviado.

5. Si el puerto conectado al fax está configurado como “llamada de
voz / fax de alta calidad a 3,1Khz” para “llamada entrante”, el
aparato recibirá faxes.
USAR UN TELÉFONO ESTÁNDAR
Se puede conectar un teléfono analógico al puerto “PHONE” para

hacer y recibir llamadas de voz. Recordar que para hacer una llamada
desde el teléfono auxiliar sólo será necesario

The FB250 ADU is a medium size, maritime FleetBroadband Class

9, 3-axis marine antenna.
The antenna is self-tracking based on patented beam squint tech-

nology. The simple and robust electromechanical system, with one
motor per free axis, provides full coverage in azimuth and elevation.
Tracking is accomplished by measuring signals being continuously
broadcast from the satellite.
The antenna unit includes LNA (low noise amplifier), HPA (high
power amplifier) and tracking receiver circuitry to ensure communica-
tion even in adverse circumstances.
The radome covers the antenna equipments, which is composed of:

The BDU has been developed for maximum flexibility and is the

industry standard interfacing field and enables users to have optimal
connectivity no matter what the conditions or your position at sea.
The BDU has a built-in Web Console, which can be accessed from
a computer connected to the BDU, using an Internet browser. The Web
Console provides easy configuration of the BDU, firmware upgrade and

All Fleet Broadband SIM cards are provisioned with 2 numbers
(MSISDNs), one each meant for 3.1KHz/fax calls and standard
voice calls (AMBE+2).
I 3.1KHz/Fax Calls:
When a remote party wants to send fax to the fax machine con-
nected to the Satlink FB250, the he/she must use the 3.1KHz
MSISDN number of the SIM card inserted into the Satlink FB250
terminal. When using this number, network will automatically
setup a 3.1KHz audio call to the Satlink FB250.
When an incoming 3.1KHz audio call is received by the Satlink

FB250, then all the equipment connected to the ports which are
configured to receive incoming calls using 3.1KHz/fax will ring.
If a fax machine is connected to the FAX port of Satlink FB250
and if the port is enabled for incoming call, then it will connect
and receive the incoming fax.
Similarly, when an incoming call to the Satlink FB250 is made

from a remote party using the standard voice call (AMBE
MSISDN) number, then all the equipment connected to the ports
which are configured to receive incoming standard voice calls

active data session and deactivating a PDP context means terminating an

Streaming IP connections are used for real-time streaming applica-

tions such as audio streaming or video streaming applications such as
Quick Link, Quick Time Media, Real-Media, Stream-box, Win Media,
etc.
There are three different types of Streaming IP connections sup-
ported: 32kbps, 64kbps and 128kbps with symmetric bandwidth (same
bandwidth for uplink and downlink) and the allocated bandwidth are
guaranteed.
Streaming IP connection is charged based on time duration of the connection

active time, regardless of data transfer volume. So, it is recommended
not to keep it connected when it is not in use.
Satlink FB250 supports at most 1 streaming connection of 128kbps, 2

streaming connections of 64kbps each or 4 streaming connections of 32kbps
each or any other combinations which add up to a maximum of 128kbps.

“Satellite Selection” in an option in the Satlink FB250 terminal,

which allows user to select his/her preferred satellite for terminal op-
eration. The terminal is set to “Auto” satellite selection mode by de-
fault, which is the recommended mode of operation. In “Auto” mode,
the terminal will scan the sky and then registered to any one of the
satellite that is visible and gives better elevation angle. If the user man-
ually selects one of the 3 satellites, then the terminal will be forced to
lock to that selected satellite if it is visible. If it is not visible, the user
will be given a warning. If the user still proceeds to select the invisi-
ble satellite, then the terminal will continue to search for this particu-
lar satellite for ever until the selected satellite becomes visible,
regardless of other visible satellites. Switching from one satellite to an-
other satellite will force the existing active calls (CS and PS) to dis-
connect.
When in “Auto” mode, when the vessel is moving out of one satel-
lite and enters into another satellite’s coverage area, then terminal will
lose its connection with the first satellite and will reacquire and regis-
ter with the new satellite in coverage. During this satellite changeover
process, all existing voice/fax calls and data connections will be dis-

There are a number of security settings available to protect the ter-

minal from mis-use by unauthorized people.

Terminal PIN
This is a PIN based security setting which allows user to lock the ter-
minal using a PIN code. Once enabled, then the terminal will allow
user to use the terminal if and only if the correct PIN is entered to pro-
ceed with the normal operation.
SIM PIN
Every SIM card comes with a SIM PIN. When SIM PIN is enabled,
user will be prompted to enter the SIM PIN during the power up process
to proceed with the operation of the terminal. If the SIM PIN is entered
incorrectly for 3 consecutive attempts, then the SIM will be locked and
the user will be prompted to use PUK (PIN Unlock Key) to unlock it.
When PUK is prompted, user has to enter the correct PUK for the SIM
PIN and followed by the new SIM PIN to set. If the PUK is correct, then
the new SIM PIN will be stored. If PUK entered is incorrect for 10 con-
secutive times, then the SIM card will be locked permanently and the
user has to get a replacement SIM card from the Distributer/Service
Provider.
SIM PIN2
SIM PIN2 is not check during power on (unlike SIM PIN), but it will

be prompted during operation. According to 3GPP,

This is used to pair the Satlink FB250 terminal with a SIM card. Once
the terminal is “SIM LOCK”ed to a particular SIM card using a six digit
PIN, then the terminal will work only with this particular SIM card.
Once a different SIM card is inserted, the terminal will prompt the user
to enter the SIM LOCK password (or PIN) to unlock the “SIM LOCK”.
User may enter the PIN to unlock and then use a new SIM card, or con-
tinue to use the same SIM card which was originally the terminal was
locked to.
Service Provider Personalization
This allows the Distributor/Service Provider to lock the Terminal with

a particular Service Provider’s SIM card with a six digit PIN code. Once
locked (generally done before selling the terminal to end user), then the
terminal will work with any SIM card from the same service provider
which was locked to the terminal. If a different SIM card is inserted,
then the terminal will prompt the user to unlock the “Service Provider
Personalization” using the same PIN used to lock it.
Corporate Personalization

SIM cards carrying a particular Corporate Code, with a six digit PIN
code. Once locked (generally done before selling the terminal to end
user), then the terminal will work with any SIM card from the same serv-
ice provider with matching corporate code. If a different SIM card is in-
serted, then the terminal will prompt the user to unlock the “Corporate

This is the type of data connection where bandwidth is allocated dy-

namically by the BGAN network depending upon the network traffic
conditions. This type of connection is generally used for Web-brows-
ing, Emails, FTP and other non real-time packet data applications.
Standard IP connection is charged based

on data volume (in Mbytes).
Streaming IP Connection
Streaming IP connections are used for real-time streaming applica-

tions such as audio streaming or video streaming applications such as
Quick Link, Quick Time Media, Real-Media, Stream-box, Win Media,
etc.
There are three different types of Streaming IP connections sup-

ported: 32kbps, 64kbps and 128kbps with symmetric bandwidth (same
bandwidth for uplink and downlink) and the allocated bandwidth are
guaranteed.
Streaming IP connection is charged based

on time duration of the connection active time, regardless

So, it is recommended not to keep it connected when it is not in use.

Destination Port Ranges
Default destination port ranges and protocol type for each profile
are listed.
To add a new destination port range:
1. Enter the port range in the space provided and choose TCP or
UDP as the protocol type; or click Add from Templates to select
the port ranges from other profiles.
To determine the port number for the type of service you wish to use,
you may search them from the Internet. An example of port numbers:
for Real Audio and Video streaming, you may use
Port 554, 7070 and 7071 for protocol type TCP or Port 6770 to 7070
for protocol type UDP.

Port Forwarding
Port Forwarding is a feature for Router (multiple-user) mode. This

feature sets the FB250 UE to direct incoming traffic on certain TCP/UDP
port to a specific port on a local PC (IP Address).
Follow these steps to add a new forwarding rule:
1. Click Add.

2. Enter the Incoming Port number in the space provided.

(For example, the user expecting HTTP traffic, the port is 80).

(For example, the IP Address of the PC that is connected to the

PHONE port can be used either for standard voice call or for fax. Fax
calls use 3.1 kHz high quality voice (64kbps, A-Law PCM) and standard
telephony uses standard quality voice call (4kbps, AMBE+2). FB-250 is
default configured as shown below.
FAX port is exclusively for connecting to FAX machine.
Follow these steps to configure the ports using the Web Console:
1. Start the Web Console.

2. Click on Settings icon.
3. Click on Telephony submenu.
4. Click on port configuration on submenu information area.

7. To perform additional changes, repeat steps 5 and 6.
If you configure ‘Incoming Call’ port as 3.1 kHz high quality voice/fax
call then incoming fax will make that telephone ring.
Satlink recommends using 3.1 kHz high quality voice/fax call option
only for FAX communications.
PIN
The Security Settings menu provide the following options to man-

age the PIN and security settings for the FB250 UE:
1. Terminal (FB250 UE) PIN

There are three options available for selection to manage the PIN
and security settings for the FB250 UE:
I Enable – Activates PIN/security settings use.

I Disable – Disables PIN/security settings use.

Security Settings

There are a number of security settings available to protect the ter-

minal from mis-use by unauthorized people.
Terminal PIN
This is a PIN based security setting which allows user to lock the ter-
minal using a PIN code. Once enabled, then the terminal will allow

user to use the terminal if and only if the correct PIN is entered to pro-
ceed with the normal operation.
SIM PIN
Every SIM card comes with a SIM PIN. When SIM PIN is enabled,
user will be prompted to enter the SIM PIN during the power up process
to proceed with the operation of the terminal. If the SIM PIN is entered
incorrectly for 3 consecutive attempts, then the SIM will be locked and
the user will be prompted to use PUK (PIN Unlock Key) to unlock it.
When PUK is prompted, user has to enter the correct PUK for the SIM
PIN and followed by the new SIM PIN to set. If the PUK is correct, then
the new SIM PIN will be stored. If PUK entered is incorrect for 10 con-
secutive times, then the SIM card will be locked permanently and the
user has to get a replacement SIM card from the Distributer/Service
Provider.
SIM PIN2
SIM PIN2 is not check during power on (unlike SIM PIN), but it will
be prompted during operation. According to 3GPP,
I SIM PIN2 is required for SIM card or active application in the

UICC (GSM or USIM) fixed dialling memory feature.

book entries in the UICC/USIM or any other phonebook with hid-

SIM LOCK

This is used to pair the Satlink FB250 terminal with a SIM card. Once
the terminal is “SIM LOCK”ed to a particular SIM card using a six digit
PIN, then the terminal will work only with this particular SIM card.
Once a different SIM card is inserted, the terminal will prompt the user
to enter the SIM LOCK password (or PIN) to unlock the “SIM LOCK”.
User may enter the PIN to unlock and then use a new SIM card, or con-
tinue to use the same SIM card which was originally the terminal was
locked to.
Service Provider Personalization

terminal will work with any SIM card from the same service provider

Firmware upgrade is to update your FB250 UE with the latest G L
firmware. Please refer to your respective distributor for your firmware
download.

DO NOT abort the upgrading process or unplug the power of the FB250 UE
during the firmware upgrade process at any time. Doing so will corrupt
the existing firmware loaded onto the FB250 UE.
Before upgrading the FB250 with the new firmware, please read through
the release notes that is provided with the new firmware.

Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware for your FB250 UE:
1. Download or acquire the new firmware from your respective

distributor and save it in your computer’s hard drive.
Make sure the FB250 UE is switched on and connected

to the desktop/laptop computer using the LAN cable.
2. Select Firmware Upgrade.

Read the Disclaimer message carefully before proceeding
with the Firmware Upgrade.
• Cick Firmware Upgrade.
The FB250 UE will reboot into Safe mode.

To perform a Factory Reset, enter the Security code 0000
and click Factory Reset.
All the settings and user data (e.g., Phone Book, GPS, etc.)
of the FB250 UE will be cleared and reset to the default settings.
If you do not wish to lose critical user data such as Phone Book,
please use limited reset option available via Primary Handset.

To power down the FB250 UE BDU using the main power
switch, it is recommended to save the recent setting changes.
To save the recent changes, click Save Now.

CHAPTER 5. CONNECTING DEVICES WITH FB250 UE
AVAILABLE INTERFACES
There are multiple connectors available in the FB250 UE, meant for
connecting to four different types of devices :(Standard Analog Phone
and Primary Handset for voice calls, Fax Machine for sending and re-
ceiving fax and PCs for data connection)
1. G3 fax machine. The BDU has a dedicated connector (RJ11) for con-
necting to a standard fax machine.

2. Standard analog phone. The BDU has a dedicated connector (RJ11)
for connecting to a standard analog phone. G L
3. Primary Handset. The BDU has a dedicated handset connector

(RJ45) for connecting the Primary Handset.

The Primary Handset must only be connected to the dedicated

HANDSET connector on the BDU.
4. Ethernet (LAN) Ports: 4 x RJ45 connectors for DATA. The BDU has
four Ethernet (LAN) connectors (RJ45) with 2 of them supporting the
Power over Ethernet (PoE).

CONNECTING A COMPUTER
To connect a computer to the FB250 BDU you need a LAN (Cat.5)

cable.
1. Plug one end of the LAN cable to any of the four RJ-45 ports
meant for DATA and the other end to your computer network
card.
2. Use the Web Console as listed in the Data Menu section of Chap-
ter 4 - Using the Web Console, to configure the FB250 BDU and
activate a data connection.
3. Configure your computer to fetch automatically IP and DNS
CONFIGURING RJ-11 VOICE/FAX PORTS
PHONE port can be used either for standard voice call or for fax. Fax
calls use 3.1 kHz high quality voice (64kbps, A-Law PCM) and standard
telephony uses standard quality voice call (4kbps, AMBE+2). FB-250 is
default configured as shown below.
When there is an incoming standard voice call, all the phones con-
nected to those ports configured as standard voice call for ‘Incoming

call’ will ring. Once one of them answers the call, all other phones will
stop ringing.

Similarly, for an incoming fax/high quality voice call, all ports con-

figured for ‘Incoming call’ as “3.1 kHz high quality voice/fax call” will
ring, regardless of whether the connected device is a fax machine or a

USING A FAX MACHINE
FAX in the FB-250 UE works in the same way as they do through a

telephone line.
Follow these steps to send/receive a fax using the FB-250 UE:
1. Connect the Fax machine to the FAX port or to any other RJ-11
ports configured as 3.1 kHz for ‘Outgoing call’ and ‘Incoming
call’.
2. Place the documents you want to send on the fax machine.
3. Dial the number on your fax machine, using the format:
<+country code><destination fax number> # (for example,
+6512345678#).
Please remember to terminate the dial string with “#” as shown in the example.
4. Wait until the fax is sent.

5. If the port connected to the fax machine is configured as “3.1

kHz high quality voice/fax call” for ‘Incoming call’, then incom-
ing fax can be received by the FAX machine.

USING A STANDARD PHONE

You can connect a standard analog phone to the PHONE port to

make and receive voice calls. Remember that to perform a call from the

Connect GPS cable to the FB250 and enable the GPS output from
the Administrator tab in the Webconsole.
