CVMA member. “I learned
when I was 12 years old and
I rode up to about 2003 when
I had to give it up. I’ve been
here for about a month. At
about the same time, I
learned about the clubs that
come to visit. I used to do
this kind of thing (MC runs
for charity) all the time, the
toy runs and the children’s
homes. Now, I’m at the re-
ceiving end. That someone
now cares about us, about
me, means a lot. “ Charron, a

perience, is looking forward
to his time at the home with
the various activities there.

its wonderful that people
haven’t forgotten our veter-
ans. I’m hoping that people
continue to look after them.”

body talks about Afghanistan
and Iraq, but if it wasn’t for
these guys (the veterans of
Vietnam, Korea, etc), we
wouldn’t know what we
were doing now.”
As for the future of Combat
Vets M.A., “Mofo” states
that he wants “to make this
the strongest chapter I can. I
like the biker community out
here and I see changing for
the better. People see our
patch, or any patch really,
and see ‘drug-runners’ and
troublemakers. They don’t
see how we are here to help.
People realize the type of in-
volvement in the community

events like this we can help
change that.”

 Chamuco’s Run for the Coalition
When asked what kind of
feedback he has received from
the public when someone at-
tends Coalition meetings,
Ryan, Co-Chairman, responds,
“They can’t believe it’s so
courteous, so polite and organ-
ized.” It’s this kind of preju-
dice that the Coalition moves
against. The stereotype that
everyone in the sea of leather,
chains, and patches is an out-
law biker is simply not viable
anymore, especially in El
Paso. “We got a great commu-
nity here in El Paso. We got a
good group of guys that work
well together. We know what
we are here to do.” What the
Coalition of Bikers is here for
is, simply, community service.
“There are at least 40 commu-
nity events a year, each hosted
and attended by the more than
45 official clubs in El Paso.” In
fact, an assurance that your club
will be actively involved in the
community is one of the criteria
to get an approved and recog-

It was this community that led
Cuervo, president of the
Chamucos MC, to create the
April 3 event to benefit the
Coalition itself. “Every club
(here in EP) has helped out
everybody else out there. Not
one has helped us as a group.
The money raised here will help
for emergency funds like fallen
rider emergencies and such.
Whatever money is left will go
for more toys at the end-of-year
Toy Drive and parade.” The
drive ends with a Christmas toy
run with hundreds of bikers in
an organized parade from Santa
Teresa to the Coliseum. Last
year, almost 6,000 kids were
served with the toys raised by
the Coalitions efforts.
Cuervo has been a biker for
over 25 years and he has seen
many changes in the area and
the biker community, thanks in
some part to the Coalition and
the unity it has fostered. “The
biker community has im-
proved. It is friendlier than it
used to be. I think because so-
ciety as a whole has taken a
nose-dive, bikers have rebelled
from that. Most bikers are blue
collar workers. Even if they are
not, they try to act with what we
think are the best attributes of
being blue collar. We want to be
hard-working, hard-partying.
We want to be fair, polite. We
like to get back to the basics of
what is really important.”

“Guns”, president of one of the
newest MCs and 20 year rider,
“La Hermandad”, is one of
those bikers that is not necessar-
ily blue collar in his job, but
would agree with Cuervo’s take
on the biker community. Part of
what led him to create his MC
is that he wanted to make a dif-
ference. His employer has
signed on for another year as
sponsors of the Coaliton Toy
Run. “What is frustrating is that
people don’t commit to partici-
pating fully. Part of creating

Hermandad is to commit fully
to being a part of the commu-
nity and helping out. Hopefully,
people will eventually see the
efforts of the bikers in El Paso
and, maybe see that Bikers
aren’t bad people.”
The day was considered a suc-
cess, with members from many
of the MCs present to show
their solidarity with the Coali-
tion, even with the wind of that
day. As one rider put it, “Riders
ride, no matter the weather. And
if this is to help a brother biker,
I’ll be there!”
AspenCash
The 14th Annual AspenCash
motorcycle rally is held each
year at the newly renovated
Ruidoso Convention Center
in Ruidoso, New Mexico.
This event is a spinoff of the
highly attended Golden
Aspen Motorcycle Rally held
every year in September in
the Ruidoso area as well.

Mission Riders Motorcycle

nual bike run to benefit the Mir-
acle League of El Paso, the only
baseball league for persons with
disabilities in El Paso. The
Miracle League hosts a car
show each year as one fund
raising event to defray the pro-
gram costs associated with ten
teams of twenty players rang-
ing in age from 3 years to over
78 years. The combined bike
run and car show “Thunder in
the Canyon” will be held on
Saturday, May 28, 2011 at the
McKelligon Canyon Amphithe-
atre including a four tribute
band concert later in the after-

noon and evening.
This year’s car show will fea-
ture local bands and entertain-
ment throughout the day while
car show enthusiasts can view
over 100 classic, euro, hot rods,
and trucks in one location be-
ginning at noon. Playtime
Amusements will set up carni-
val type rides for the young and
young at heart. Registration and
set up is scheduled for 10 am.
The bike run will begin at noon
with registration at Barnett
Harley Davidson and then
travel north to Mulligan’s with a
second stop at Zebro’s on Dyer
St. The honorable Mayor John
Cook has agreed to lead the pa-
rade of motorcyclists on the last
leg of the run to Incredibles at
the base of McKelligon Canyon
where the local establishment
will host the bikers to a free
lunch before they enter the
Canyon.
Local bands Brother Strange,
then Sixth Sense will take the
stage at the McKelligon Canyon
Amphitheatre as the bikers ar-
rive. The four tribute bands will
begin their performances fol-
lowing the local talent with
Alive in Chains, Alice in
Chains’ tribute band, Great

Grand Funk Railroad, Cowboys
from HellPaso, Pantera’s tribute

We here at Sun City Biker
have featured some great look-
ing motorcycles, from classic
styled cruisers, to sporty crotch
rockets; we try hard to highlight
every choice of motorcycle out
there. We have also been lucky
enough to meet the owners of
these beauties and make some
new friends at the same time.
This month’s featured owner in
particular is bringing something
different to the table. Something
a lot of us would not think of
doing.
This is Brandy “Tex” Valdez and
her 2003 Kawasaki ZX-636.
This is no ordinary “Gixxer”
this is a full blown stunt bike.
She doesn’t ride this bike on the
streets; it’s purposely built for
what she does best. To help
solve her problem, she owns
three other bikes that she can
legally ride on the street, and act
as back-up bikes (in case any-
thing were to happen to her
stunt bike). Her list of mods are
endless just like the events she
has competed and participated
in, such as the X¬-Games 16,
XDL Los Angeles and numerous
others. Currently, Brandy is
traveling around the country,
and soon she may be traveling
overseas performing her stunts
to crowds of people.
Brandy first started riding dirt
bikes when she was fourteen
years old. When she turned
eighteen she bought her first
street bike, presently the bike
you see in the pictures. She was
into drag racing at first, but
loved motorcycles. Instead of
building a bike for the drag
strip, Brandy took a liking to the
stunt bike scene. Her parents
were not too happy about the
idea at first, but grew to come to
terms with it, seeing her obvious
talent. What she most enjoys
about stunt bike riding is, “You
can just about do it any place…
you don’t have to pay a fee to
practice stunts, like you would
to drag race a bike.” She also
stated, “Stunt bike riding is all
about manipulating a motorcy-
cle… and I like that.” Most of
the stunts performed take a mix
of balance, strength, patience
and lots of practice. Brandy also
loves that stunt riding keeps her
in shape and in good spirits, “I
always have a smile on my face
when I ride.” That says a lot,
showing onlookers that girls can
play hard too!
From the pictures of her bike
you can see that Brandy does in-
deed play hard. The inspiration
of the paint job was actually by
accident, Brandy said. She had
originally wanted it blue, but the
painter ran out of paint. So the
painter threw in his skills and
came out with the marble look-
ing paint scheme tearing away
to a galaxy/star constellation
theme underneath, along with
Brandy adding decals from her
sponsors into the mix. This bike
is fabricated for her sport and
she with the help of her family
and friends have done most of
the work to get the bike where it
sits right now. So not only can
she stunt on a bike, but can get
her hands dirty too. Brandy still
has plans for this motorcycle;
she’s trying to get the bike back
to street legal terms by adding
some custom bi-xenon projector
headlights, a new 2 wheeler
stunt frame and a new wrap for
her helmet by KBC Helmet
Company.
There are tons of articles, pic-
tures and videos of her on the
internet showcasing her skills at
numerous events and practice
sessions. Brandy is certainly
making a name for herself, ac-
complishing so much in a male
dominated sport. She is defi-
nitely a role model to women
and young girls alike who want
to carry out their dreams that
several people might not see fit
for a woman to achieve.
Safety association reports motorcyclist fatalities down
April 19, 2011
Motorcyclist fatalities de-
clined by at least 2 percent
last year, according to a report
released on April 19 by the
Governors Highway Safety
Association (GHSA), the
American Motorcyclist Asso-
ciation (AMA) reports.
Based on preliminary data,
the GHSA projects that fatali-
ties declined from 4,465 in
2009 to 4,376 or fewer in
2010. In a news release, the
group said the projection is
based on data from 50 states
and the District of Columbia.
The decline comes on the
heels of a dramatic 16 percent
drop in 2009, which followed
11 straight years of steady in-
creases in motorcycle deaths,
the GHSA said.
The GHSA is a nonprofit as-
sociation representing the

highway safety offices of
states, territories, the District
of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
Its members are appointed by
their governors to administer
federal and state highway
safety funds and implement
state highway safety plans.
"We are encouraged by the
further decline in rider fatali-
ties," said Ed Moreland, AMA
senior vice president for gov-
ernment relations, reacting to
the GHSA report. "We hope
to see this trend in declining
fatalities continue.
"But without hard data to sup-
port the reasons behind the
decline, it is difficult to spec-
ulate on the reasons," he
added.
"The lack of data underscores
the need for a fully compre-
hensive crash causation study
to understand the reasons that
riders crash," Moreland said.

The comprehensive motorcy-
cle crash causation study is
being conducted at the Okla-
homa Transportation Center,
an independent and well-re-
spected research facility at
Oklahoma State University in
Stillwater, Okla.
The last major motorcycle
crash study was completed in
1980, and it provided a wealth
of data that has been used to
develop training and strate-
gies to help keep riders safer
on the road. In the decades
since, the traffic environment
has changed enormously,
prompting the AMA to begin
campaigning for a new study
several years ago, which led
to the Oklahoma research.
